Cowboys and Captives

A Wish, a Kiss, a Dream

Djinn's Wish by Shiloh Walker
When Tamric chose to become Djinn, he never imagined that he would be trapped in service to a magickal mirror for thousands of years, granting one wish to each woman who holds it. Tam is ready to do anything to obtain his freedom when he meets the human who will make him burn with a hunger he had long ago forgotten and yearn for a love unlike any he has ever imagined. For her he will give up his freedom, his dreams, his everything. Just to see her joy-before he disappears from her life forever.

Paying Up by Mary Wine
Christina Faulkner made a bet and now she owed him a kiss. If she's lucky, he's forgotten all about it. Shane Jacobs didn't just want the bet paid. He wanted a whole lot more. But once passion touches its targets, desire transforms simple contact into mesmerizing obsession. And Christina is about to discover that Shane hasn't forgotten her. In fact, he's coming back to claim what is his. All of it.

Note: Paying Up is linked to the "Dream" series but can be read as a stand-alone story.

Cowboy and the Thief by Lora Leigh (Book 2 in the Cowboy series)
The owner of the ancient Irish Torque will always be an Irish lass. The wearer, the lover of her heart and soul. It's Angel Manning's legacy and has sparked dreams of an unknown lover who would fill her nights with heat, her heart with joy. "a Wish, a Kiss, a Dream" is a three for three home run for me with stories by three big names in erotica.

"Djinn's Wish" is Shiloh Walker's contribution about a ennui-filled genie trapped in a mirror who grants one wish with a kiss to each female owner before vanishing to his next 'job'. He's confused by Kat, his current 'owner', when she fails to make a wish after he appears...only to realize she is blind and can't see him or his magic. As he schemes to get her to 'gift' him with the mirror, he falls in love and wants to heal her. But once he grants his wish, he'll vanish...
***Fabulous and emotional read with a VERY happy ending!

"Paying Up" by Mary Wine provides the story of a hotter than Hades special psy ops soldier and the woman he's been craving ever since he saved her. Can she give up 'normal' for his special world?
***Major Alpha male plus major heat equals one devirgining with a great ending!

"Cowboy and the Thief" rounds out the anthology with one of Lora Leigh's scorchers. When Angel's father sells 'her' Torque to a sexy but infuriating American, Angel promptly heads to Texas to steal it back. Once Jack realizes who his cat burglar is, he has some very specific ideas on how she can 'earn' her freedom.
***It's Lora Leigh. Do I really need to say how hot and satisfying the story is?

All three stories were just different enough to please and all three made me want to read more by each author. Onto my keeper shelf it goes.

The first story we find in this Anthologie is Shiloh Walker's "Djinn's Wish".

After having found out that her husband betrayed her with her best friend, Kat is involved in a car crash that leaves her blind. Being a rising star in the art world with her paintings, Kat turns into a solitary woman, never leaving her house and isolating herself from the world outside.
All of that changes when she acquires a mirror that comes with a djinn living inside it.
Tam has been trapped by his own will in the mirror for ages, but now the thing that he most wants is to be free and roam the world at his own will. For that to happen, a person has to give up her own wish and give the mirror to Tam.
After meeting Kat, he sees an opportunity to be free, but in the process of convincing this woman, he falls in love and is not sure anymore that he can walk away.

This story was very sweet and very eye opening for us reader's.
Here we have the chance to dwell in our minds the possibility to give a little more importance to our everyday life and our main abilities to live a normal life without any restrictions, give a little more credit to what surrounds us and take pleasure in little things of our everyday life.

Tam was a character that I liked and was interesting to see how he recognized an intelligent, brave and sexy woman, not being prejudicial with her disability.
Their love story was rapture in the true sense of the word and their involvement was so good to read.

Overall I loved this story and yes, love conquers all, in the pages of books that is.

Mary Wine "Paying Up"

This was without a doubt my kind of man and my kind of story.
I'm not going to go through the story, but if you want a hot alpha male, military kind, swept you off your feet and a girl overcoming her fears and realizing that her man came back to get her, with a happy ending, than this is also a story for you.

Lora Leigh "Cowboys and Captives"

I'm a big fan of Lora Leigh because I like what she comes up with and her male characters are always hot. Sometimes she does repeat herself in the stories but I never fail to look forward to the next book.

Here in "Cowboys and Captives", she gives us the story of a cowboy that conquers an Irish "witch", and the tale of an ancient Torque that is said to bring love and happiness to the blood line that has it.

OK, it was a bit fast paced but the story was well written, it brings us from the anticipation of what is going to happen to Angel to the fast growing change of heart of Jack.
Their relationship and encounters between the sheets fill the pages and leads us to the dream of the past, very wisely introduced, letting us comprehend the value of the piece in question.

The ending is also a catch that I didn't see coming and valued for the positive my evaluation of this story.

Overall, this anthologie was very good, three stories all of them different and unique, from very good authors to follow up later.
I on the other hand discovered Mary Wine and definitively are going to take a closer look to her books.

Paranormal Anthol.

All 3 are very enjoyable stories.

Djinn's Kiss - Shiloh Walker

Djinn & enchanted mirror romance tale.

Paying Up - Mary Wine

Army Rangers protect psychics. Reads like there must be a previous story that I might track down by this new to me author.

Cowboy and the Thief - Lora Leigh

I had to buy this book for the second of two "Cowboy" stories LL has written. The first story is in "Cops and Cowboys" anthol. This was a steamy romance, with an Irish lass trying to steal a family heirloom back from a sexy Texas rancher :-)

I read this one several years ago and gave the book 4 stars on the inside flap. There were three short stories and I enjoyed them all.

1. "Djinn's Wish" by Shiloh Walker
* Tamrie was trapped in a mirror and waited for someone to wish him out. This was neat!
2. "Paying Up" by Mary Wine
3. "Cowboy and the Thief" by Lora Leigh

Only read the Lora Leigh story in this book. I didn't care for the hero or the heroine. She was bratty and i just never warmed to her. Perhaps if this had gone full length and the characters were fleshed out more it could've been better.

More sex than plot. Enjoyed the 1st out of all 3 stories because it had more plot than sex, i mean the sex is great. YAY SEX! But I need plot, I need characters to root for. All I saw was two people eyeing each other until they screwed. Which isn't bad. I don't know. It is a good read. I prolonged it because I had other stuff to finish first. I'm gonna read more of this style, I know I will.

Story one about magical man and blind woman (I am being very vague because it's 5:30 am). He grants wishes, she didn't know. He wanted his mirror back, she didn't know it was magical at all actually. He comes on to her, she likes him, he likes her. He grants her one wish: For them to stay together forever. YAY. I liked this one the most because, yeah, guy was hot and tanned and stuff and wasn't that scary. :P Plus, he's magical. Yeah digging that so bad. (Why do I sound sarcastic, I really liked this guy! Except I don't remember his name)

Shane Jacop (I remember his name because that's all SHE said... Christina?) is big and oppressive and she's reluctant but madly in love. She's been attacked before and he blames himself for her scars (whatever, Shane) and she is madly in love with him except she won't really admit it to herself because that's the new Sexy. They end up together after a nice round or two of sex.

Jack cowboy and Angel-mine (that's what he called her!) are little kids... OK I joke, they aren't children but her dad, yep adding that one into the mix, told his dead wife's portrait how they bickered like kids whenever they were at one another's presence. WOW GREAT CHEMISTRY. The most fun relationship. Lots of sex. The most out of all three stories. A little kinky at the end... Yep.

Hope this was a constructive review.

An anthology of three stories revolving around the theme of Valentine's Day romances.

Series:
"Cowboy and the Thief" (Cowboys and Captives, 2)

"Paying Up" (Dreams, 4)

The Stories
Shiloh Walker's "Djinn's Wish" is a sweet variant on the djinn who wants his freedom but is willing to give it up for love. After many years of yearning for freedom, Tam encounters Katlin Dixon, a painter of soaring promise whose career was cut short by a car accident that stole her sight.

Mary Wine's "Paying Up" has an unexpected tight military bent when Chris reconnects with Major Shane Jacobs, a black ops soldier stiff in every way. Seems Major Shane hasn't gotten over her appeal after he and his men rescued her and a friend from a kidnapping gone wrong. It's Valentine's weekend when the major returns to claim what he considers his.

Lora Leigh's "The Cowboy and the Thief" was obviously run up in a hurry. It does bring in a bit of the mythical with its Wolf's Head torque and the dreams unknowingly shared between Jack Riley and Angel Manning. Things come to a head when Angel breaks into Jack's ranch to steal back the heirloom torque her father sold. Jack's been waiting for her and takes full advantage of her illegal act to force her into his bed.

The Title
The title is very appropriate for this collection of stories and, wonder of wonder, the stories don't feel contrived to fit within their theme of Valentine's Day romances.

I have to admit that there was one point when I thought I was going to put this book down and not finish it. The last story made this book not a complete waste.

The first story by Shiloh Walker about the Djinn was good. I won't necessarily want to read it again, but I enjoyed it.

The second book was by Mary Wine, about some special forces soldiers and psychics. This was the point when I thought I would put the book down. This one was the weak one of the group. It felt incomplete, as though every few lines a sentence was missing. At one point I looked up a passage on line to make sure I didn't get a bad copy. Yeah, it was that bad. No sentences were missing, it was just poorly written Let's just say I wont be trying that author again.

A Cowboy and a Thief by Lora Leigh was the last story and of the three was the best. It managed to be very erotic and have a plot. I liked it.

This is a nice anthology featuring three stories from well-known authors.
-The first story is nicely written, I can help feeling happy that the characters ended happily. The plot is good, but my only comment is that the H always like to have sex too much that they do it on the floor. Whatever, it still fun to read.
-The second story is somehow confusing at first, that I can't understand the story very well if I hadn't read the story about the past of the characters that maybe in another book. The sex scenes are somehow off-putting, because the author keeps using so much flowery words that I get bored. I thought they were shifters that the have the animalistic feelings that a human shouldn't have.
-The third story have a nice plot, considering I somehow keep wary of Lora Leigh's books. I feel the anguish of h and felt relieved at how she became happy again. However, the use of sex toys in the end is somehow ewww for me.
...Anyway, it still an enjoyable read.

I only made it through Shiloh Walker's story, I tried the others, but after 15 pages I gave them up, they just didn't do it for me.

Walker's story was interesting. I hated that Kat blamed herself for the accident and think she caused her own blindness out of guilt. She wasn't the person at fault. I did like how Tam was taken with Kat, so much so that he was willing to give up his wish for hers.
