Windows to the soul

It has been said That the eyes are the window to the soul. So if Eyes should appear black, for me it’s enough to assume what they’re soul would be like. It is not so far fetched to assume that if the stories of the BEK are true, then so are the ones of the WEK. Where there is darkness, light will follow & Vice versa. It is mentioned that such incidents were not heard of until the start of the WWW. On the web with social media & such true it does provide ripe territory for new tales to be born. But then again it provides the platform for anonymity to share such occurrences. But we must not forget our Native American friends, there has been legends of such beings, much longer than the web has existed. There are many urban tales but for many chances are you can always find a similar happening of truth. But one thing will always be true, your gutt is your spirit warning you of something being off...pay attention to that.

Had just listened to a podcast that covered the subject black eyed people, so there I go in search of a book that contains true accounts.

I was underwhelmed and I honestly am not sure if it's on the author or the accounts themselves. They just seem disingenuous. Which to most may sound silly considering the subject matter, but that's just how it came across for me.

I am not going to label it a "do not recommend". Rather, lower your expectations or just go in as if you're reading full on fiction.

Aptly Named

This book is a collection of eerie encounters with the black eyed kids, shared with the author via his website. Some pre date the internet, some are fairly recently and contain both children and adults with black eyed that are frightening. The few who allowed them inside did not fare well. Most cases involving the kids trying to get permission to come inside, which most people refuse. The author also presents some background and a bit of history in the phenomenon. The stories are creepy and you will undoubtedly want to read this book with the lights on.

I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting from this book, but what I got was definitely not it. The book is mainly about other people's encounters with BEKs, and the author takes them at face value as completely true. That, of course, should have tipped me off, but I kept going. I will say that I am definitely not a person who likes personal encounters. I'm much more of the abstract discussion type of person. I like talking about BEKs and what they might be, not hearing about a bunch of different encounters. The fact that the author erroneously claims that BEKs are a US thing, is ridiculous. Not sure what or where he was reading, but there are more than a fair share of BEK encounters in other countries. That aren't what the author would call "BEK ghosts". That should have also tipped me off and I probably should have stopped myself there. But I kept going. And regretted it.

The author gives hardly any proof or evidence about his theories, just spouts them as fact. The author literally claims there is no evidence that BEKs could be inter-dimensional beings and that's that. Doesn't give any reason why he came to this conclusion, and doesn't even discuss it further. I'm all for people coming up with their own theories, and the author does. He claims that BEKs are demons. Doesn't give any proof or evidence they are, just expects us to believe it at face value. That is NOT what a true researcher does. In all honesty, we aren't sure what BEKs are, or that they do truly exist. The only real evidence of them existing are personal encounters. BEKs leave behind no physical evidence, except the one that supposedly left behind an apple they were eating. Again, that could be explained away.

I chose to DNF around 62% because I just couldn't continue on with the absolute ridiculousness of the author. Doesn't give any evidence to support their theory, but shoots down other theories because the author claims there isn't any evidence. Hypocritical much? Either way, I am DEFINITELY putting this one behind me.

BYK BLACK EYED KIDS

A really frightening compilation of true stories submitted to G. Michael Vasey, who curates a website dealing with strange but true phenomena. The prototypical BEK story includes an unknowing person, usually alone but even if another person is present, they do not see or hear the BYK’s. The BYK’s are usually children between eight and 15 years old. They seem out of place, not wearing a coat in the Winter, or wearing clothes of another time period. The single shared feature amongst BEK is black eyes, no pupils, no irises, no white of their eyes, just a solid eye the color of everyone else’s pupil. Big black eyes as seen on the cover of Whitley Streiber’s “Communion,” Yes, the Black Eyes of your average Extra Terrestrial “Gray.” The BEK ring your doorbell or knock persistently. When answer they ask to come into your house and warmup or to borrow your phone to call their parents or claim they’re lost. If you refuse them because something is off or the situation feels wrong or odd or bad. They continue to ask to enter. Continue to knock and if you refuse the BEK will become demanding, “let us in” but they will not enter unless you grant them permission to enter, acting out like a disappointed Vampire. “Let us in!” I recommend you read this book in your favorite comfortable chair, with all the lights on and the windows and doors locked from the inside! You may believe my security measures are not needed, but you’d be wrong!

Are you afraid of an encounter with the mysterious Black Eyed Kids? This book is a collection of stories and there's no evidence Black Eyed Kids exist. It's a boring read, but maybe if you are a child it's scary. Also it's quite possible that every Black Eyed Kid encounter is just white people being afraid of children from other cultures/etc.

The book is a collection of first-hand experiences of interactions with "Black Eyed Kids" (BEK). Many of the stories are quite creepy, and Vasey provides his own insight on what BEKs just might be. BEKs are a very intriguing topic and have been discussed at length on the Internet, talk radio and podcasts.

Love this

I'm writing about them too but it's all fiction. The story with the guy with the picture of the Kiily Tokurt on his phone I'm calling bullshit on. The other stories were pretty good though.

It was ok. The stories were interesting but the book was very short. It was more like reading a webpage.
