Cool info about sharks. Appealing LEGO characters with funny commentary. However, it’s confusing to jump around the page so much and some of the LEGO conversations were too random to be funny to me, like asking if wobbegongs eat hot dogs. I also wonder if many people build the LEGO things suggested. We wouldn’t stop a read-loud a book on p.5 to make a LEGO boat, especially since we mostly read at bedtime. Some female characters but not enough to be ideal. This would be tougher as a beginning reader book than you might expect from the cover. My preschooler and kindergartener are into sharks so they liked it.
I’d recommend Wild Kratts books about animals instead for PreK-K.
Well put together. I particularly liked when the book used a vampire minifigure as a guide to share information with the reader about a shark's ability to sense blood. Did I like it? Yes. Would I reread it? The book was basic enough in style that I don't think I'll have the need to reread it. Would I recommend it? As a teaching tool, yes. What kid hasn't wanted to know more about sharks at some point in their life?
My son who is 5 really enjoyed this book. It incorporated two of his favorite things legos, and sharks. It has a lot of information about sharks (some I had never heard).
Neat concept! I like the builder dude with suggestions on what kids can make to further explore the topic. And yay, my two favorite sharks (Cookie-Cutter and Goblin) were both mentioned!
The 6 year old picked this from her Scholastic Book Order. It is a Level 1 reader and there is some quality information about sharks. Not the best early reader non fiction but it is alright.
