For some reason, I thought this was going to be better than it was. The universe the author created had so much potential but everything fell short because there was barely any world-building. I felt like I was guessing and trying to piece things together that weren't even there to begin with throughout the novel.

Alex started off seeming like a very smart and kick-butt heroine, but somewhere along the way she started making so many questionable decisions that she lost my respect. Who in their right mind goes to a guardian that someone you trust told you you can trust and then go off the deep end with someone else just because they're "family". I don't know about you but a long-distance powerful relative can also kill you if they want to too. I also hated how blindly she went into the mating because no one ever explained anything to her and she was just obligated to accept it.

Collum was okay. He was protective and cared for her but tried to play it cool and be aloof. It was annoying how he never explained anything to her but still let very permanent things happen to her and thought she was just going to have to accept it and move on with him.

The different point of views with the Council was annoying. I didn't care for them and they just took up space. For being these all-powerful creatures they were really dumb and narcissistic (with the exception of one).

The ending was also average. I wasn't expecting it but I had an inkling something was coming. Mar was by far the most entertaining character to read about. She flew off the pages but considering my dislike of her possible mate I'm not sure if I want to read her book any time soon.

I really enjoyed this story. The world was deep, complex, and all the characters interesting. In fact, the author really has a knack for writing details that make the characters so vivid and real that you want to know more about all of them.

The main character is Alex Taleisin and the story starts as she discovers that she is an Elemental. We find out about this immortal world, her lineage, and the dangers, as she does. I won’t rehash the blurb, but I will add that when her dragon guardian, Collum, is called, the chemistry between them sizzles! Another great character is Mar, the witch. I loved the scene where she is casually eating a pastry after having performed a huge spell. As it turns out, she’ll be the main character in book 2 and I can’t wait to see what she dishes at Neeren.  I think the only thing I didn’t like about the book was the Dad’s name, Domhall.

Overall, I’m hooked on this series! 4.5 out of 5 stars

I gave this rating an extra star just because the ending was satisfyingly epic. But, the rest of this book was all over the place. No one would react to things like Alex did, she spent a great deal of this book being annoying and TSTL. I mean, she had just been told by her Aunt Quinn, Collum, and Domhall all about how she had enemies who would do anything to separate her from her protectors and kill her, but she decides that all just doesn't apply to the nice Neerem from her dreams?

And then there was the whole thing about her not being prepared for this new world that she finds herself in. She has little to no control over her abilities, the people who are after her are experts at their own abilities, her protectors are the only things keeping her alive, and yet she is such a "strong woman" that she is constantly putting herself in needless danger to show that she can take care of herself when she really, really can't.

Overall, I hated and had no respect for Alex and her tantrums, and it pretty much spoiled everything else. While I found the side characters to be entertaining, I have no desire to read any more in this series.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I was completely sucked in to this incredible story of magic, shifters, intrigue and betrayal.
And by that, I mean I could not put it down!
Alex, having been raised in the human world, begins coming into her power, yet has no idea what that means, or even what is happening to her. The rest of the immortal world knows that something has upset the balance of power but is unaware what.
The storyline moves so quickly, almost too quickly, but I only say that because I didn’t want it to end. I found myself fascinated by the characters, as they are all so different - not just their abilities but their personalities too.
You will find yourself immersed in a world of elementals, dragon shifters, panthers and more and go on a brilliant journey with them.

This book surprised me. I stumbled upon this author when doing a google search.
Fire Born had enough humor and action to keep me focus and entertained throughout. I couldn’t get over the great personalities of the characters. I was entranced.
I was pleasantly shocked and look forward to book two. I love finding new authors. Yay for Google.

This was a good story with great world building. The end needed a bit more for it to feel resolved. I liked all the characters, especially Mar and I’m looking forward to her story. Hopefully Quinn and Law will end up together too.

Fire Born is the first book in The Guardian series, and we start off with Alex. She is just a normal girl, living a normal life - so of course you know that everything is about to explode into the unknown for her! And it does, but it brings with it a dragon Guardian, who is incredibly sexy! Collum is very old and has his own opinions on how things should be. Alex throws numerous spanners in the works simply because she has her own opinions, and won't change them 'just because'.

This is an intricate story, guaranteed to keep your interest as you learn, along with Alex, just exactly how her life is about to change. The characters are all three-dimensional and have their own quirks. Mar is a fantastic character and I can't wait to read more about her. Alex and Collum have a HFN ending, with a promise from Collum. (Why can't I read his name without thinking of Golum instead?!?!?)

For a first book, there is enough world-building to satisfy, elemental thrills all the way through, and sexiness by the dozen. A very good start to a series, and I look forward to continuing with the story.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

This book is a prime example of how not to write strong heroines.

A book I read recently, The Lynx Soul, had this idea in it (I'm paraphrasing): Strength isn't about never being broken. Strength is in not staying broken. The author of Fire Born is so busy trying to make Alex "strong" that she forgets to make her human, or likeable, or smart. I understand that some real people make themselves this way, but I certainly don't want to read books about them. In fact, I only made it 25% into this book before I had enough. The thing that sent me over the DNF cliff was actually the Isle of White (sic) reference. I suppose if I had kept reading I could have discovered that the Isle of White was a special island for dragons unknown to the outside world, but I suspect it was just that the author somehow didn't know that it's actually the Isle of Wight . And since this book was clearly never edited or proofed or beta read by anyone, it made it into print that way. There's plenty of other errors, both grammatical and plot-wise. Most annoying are when Alex sometimes just knows things that she hasn't been told, and it's not presented as being magically gifted knowledge. It's just bad writing.

Back to Alex. The author is so desperate to have her follow the modern sensibilities of a "strong heroine" that she actually is just rude, wishy-washy, and TSTL. Alex has only one person in the world that she fully trusts: her Aunt Quinn. Quinn tells her that she is in mortal danger (which was evident from the attack that is our inciting incident), and that the only person who Quinn trusts to protect her is Collum. So naturally, the first thing Alex does is fight with Collum, then leave him in a public place (resulting in another attack), then keep vital info from him about unknown people who are trying to separate her from him.

As for rude and wishy-washy: She shows no respect for Collum, even though she knows he is the king of the dragons, and that he's come specifically to protect and help her. She's not even nice to him. Also, there's some sort of insta-lust between Collum and Alex that isn't explained well, at least as far as I got in the book. Collum says he's inordinately attracted to her, but it's unclear if it's just solely because she is "transitioning" into her power, or if there's something like a mate bond happening. One minute she's all over him, eagerly, the next she's yelling at him about taking liberties with her. Back and forth and back again. You can't have it both ways, sugar. Collum, at least, admits he wants her, but is trying to control himself because it is super fast and she's in a wildly changing place in her life that he doesn't want to take advantage of. Yes, he gets commanding when they land at the Isle of *White airport, but A) he's a king and an "Alpha" male, and B) she's been wishy-washy and he's taking charge. It's what Alpha males do.

There's a, I guess it's a trope?, among some authors that modern women have to be strong enough to bear anything, to never need anyone, and to never be vulnerable. They certainly can't rely on a man, which is particularly strange in romance books. Real, healthy, relationships are about give and take, about being there when your partner needs you, and having someone there when you need them. Strong women of modern sensibilities can need help bearing their burdens, can have support in being strong, can be vulnerable, and can be broken sometimes. The strength comes from knowing when you need help and where to get it from. It comes from building a foundation that allows you to rescue yourself, and that foundation can include a man if you want it to. And it comes from knowing that sometimes you are broken, but that you won't always be.

BTW, read the series that the book I linked above comes from, The Soul Stone series. So much better than this one.

Alex and her awaking

This is a new Author to me and I am so glad that I decided to read this book. From cover to cover you will not be disappointed. Alex a young woman coming into herself along with these feelings. Feelings of her body being hotter than necessary. Coming into herself has also altered her body when tattoos start to appear on her. And she only has her Aunt to turn to. You see Alex was adopted and she has no knowledge of who she is or where she came from. Until the day she is forced to use such powers against being attacked by someone or something. Her aunt appears after this attack and proceeds to tell Alex that she has a gift, a very special gift and she is in danger. Her aunt in a scurry starts to pack a bag for her because a guardian is coming to protect her. Alex doesn’t know what is going on and is not falling in step. Until this huge, strong wonderful man comes in her home. Fire, lust, wanting to ravish this man with everything she is approaches her. Her protector can’t believe his eyes once focused on Alex, he is a dragon king and guardian of her and all balance in the world. He will try to help along her transition along with finding out she is his mate for over two thousand years he has yet to find. Along with keeping her save other variables and put in place to try and shield her from said enemies. People presumed dead will come into her life and people she never knew existed will be at her side through this. Will Alex get all the answers she needs to have her life explained. Will this feeling of lust become more. Well grab your copy and get a glimpse of what to come. A definite must read.

Alex Taleisin’s has finally been let in on the secret – she’s an Elemental Immortal plus a little something more and her life is in danger. Guardian of the Races and savage King of the Dragons, Collum Thronus made a promise to protect Alex and find her father’s people. A Battle is coming and Alex knows the only way to get answers is to trust her powers and become the warrior she was destined to be.

The first book in this exhilarating new paranormal romance series has a hero and heroine that are beings of fire, so readers should expect to be burned as the chemistry that flows between is volcanic and the sparks start flying in every direction upon first meeting. Alex and Collum’s attraction is one thing but the relationship has emotions raging out of control as well due to the situation these strong, vibrant characters find themselves in, especially Alex is not really allowed the time it takes to digest her all new reality.

The plot is fast pace and full of exciting events and is extremely suspenseful, keeping readers from being able to put the book down at any time. This story is also a bit complex as it is at the whim of a man who is a little bit insane and the mercy of all his manipulations. This keeps the story on a twisted path of secrets, betrayals and downright hide and seek games. There is no way for readers to become bored during this explosive, thrilling and entertaining story with one sexy dragon shifter guardian and flammable heroine.

Too Hot To Handle🔥💞

Adult 🐉Dragon Shifter Romance💞 and Intrigue With Paranormal Elements.

I had a problem with Alex, the woman Dragon Shifter sent to live with human parents as a child. She was never told and never knew she was a dragon until she became an adult, and that was only after she caused fires and had memory lapses!

Luckily Collum the naaaaastious baaaad boy 🐉Dragon Shifter in the world🌍 finds Alex quickly and offers to train her. He will be her guardian and protector. He wants her and he tells her she is his!
Collum is the Dragon King🐲👑!
Alex just wants to know who her father is!
But when they touch, their fates as mates are sealed! She smells like his! Too 🔥Hot To Handle!

ARC Received from Hidden 💎Gems
I also got This book with KU.

I had a good time 📚reading this Dragon Shifter Romance, because both lovers were dragons, for one thing. Collum is also hot🔥🐲 S*x incarnate, too. WOWIE!
Shifter🐲🐺 romances💘 are not my usual reading, but I thought I would read this one because of all the awards it has received. The book is definitely worth 📚reading!

I could take it or leave it

I don’t like to write bad reviews about free books, but there were a few points in this that I would be remiss if I didn’t comment on. First, the editing in this book is lacking. There are many errors and it’s super annoying to move past them. Second, I think the author either doesn’t understand sentence structure, or chooses to be very free with the English language. Constantly throughout the book, there are sentences that aren’t sentences. Again, it’s incredibly annoying. Third, there really is no real trial for the characters to go through. Everything is too easy, events are too abrupt, and characters are all very shallow and surface as though they have no higher motives or thought processes; which leads to the final point. Fourth, there is no character development. The shallow characters make realizations but it doesn’t seem to alter them. Or if it does, it doesn’t feel like they’ve earned any growth.

It was a light, easy read, but I will not be continuing with the series.

Meh. That’s how I feel about this book.

When I say below that the plot and characters were good enough, I mean that this is a nice distraction between books that are actually good like Blacksmith Queen or the Court of the Underworld series. But it’s not a great book at all.

The good:
Good enough plot
Interesting enough characters
Neat world

The bad:
The world is so underdeveloped. I mean the different players in this supernatural world are not really explained. And the elders are given all this power but no one challenges them? And one us been absent for years and that’s ok? No one replaced him? It just doesn’t make sense.

And the bad guy was obvious.

And Alex and Collum’s relationship was insta-love complete with alpha male attitude and her insisting she won’t put up with his alpha dominance while she puts up with it.

The author insists Alex just knows in her gut who to trust and how people feel and so forth. But that’s never connected to her powers. It just felt like I was missing something.

I’ve read books with various elements present in Fire Born, but none where those elements were combined in such a unique manner. I loved Fire Born and very much look forward to jumping into Magic Born.

The relationships between the characters are complex and interesting. I find myself equal parts thankful that I wasn’t subjected to any more interpersonal drama than necessary to make the story function, and questioning if I should feel that the conflicts between the “good” characters are too easily resolved. I found Fire Born to match my personal taste, so make of it what you will.

I do wish the final conflict had been a bit more climactic. It suffered from Harry Potter Syndrome. The entire book, the reader keeps getting reminded that the baddies are dangerous and powerful, but then they’re defeated by the underdog without much effort.

In any case, I heartily recommend Fire Born to anyone who likes hot witches, sexy dragons, badass elementals, and powerful female characters.

**This an advanced readers copy**

This book was CRAZY HOT. I love reading these types of books. Oh My Word is this book hot, like melt your kindle or hands. So you will read about Alex and how things start to happen to her and she has no clue. Then here comes Collum and OH MY GOODNESS is this guy hot. The chemistry with Alex and Collum is on fire like literally. Alex who is raised in a human world and is introduced to a different world which she has to figure out who/what she is as well as stay alive. Then you throw in her crazy family as well as a HOT GAURDIAN DRAGON, and you get sucked into their world. You understand why Alex is struggling to adjust to this new world, which can be hard to acclimate to when all you know of is being human. She adjust well to get through what is coming. The book has a great story and does hook you when you first start to read. When I finished this book, I wanted more and cannot wait to read the next in this series.

Alex always thought she was pretty normal, but one morning at the gym, and a confrontation in the parking lot will turn her life up side down. Colum is the Guardian of the paranormal community and will do his best to protect Alex from the other Elementals who want to destroy her and the family she didn't know existed.

While I loved all these characters, I thought Alex and Collum were Absolutely fabulous. She is a strong willed, independent young woman, while he is an ancient dragon who wants to protect the woman he loves from anyone who would harm her. Sparks definitely fly when these two sexy, well written characters get together. Exciting, packed with magical action, a little mystery, and some suspenseful moments. Fantastic book, I loved it and look forward to more of this series.

I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
