4 stars!

description

I’ve enjoyed all three books in Harper Sloan’s Coming Home series, but I have to say, the third book, Cowboy Up was my most anticipated and favorite of the bunch. I’m not usually a fan of reading about Cowboys, but these books and these Davis siblings… I just love them!

Clayton Davis is the oldest of the Davis siblings. He’s the reliable and dependable brother, the one who runs the ranch, who everyone can count on. He keeps to himself and doesn’t really do relationships. That changes when he meets Caroline Michaels. Caroline’s life has been turned upside down and she’s back in her hometown and runs into Clay. They hit it off right away, and their chemistry and attraction is off the charts.

I loved how much Clay and Caroline needed one another, even if they didn’t realize it at first. They truly were a perfect match. Both of them have issues with their parents, and both are a bit resistant to be in a relationship at first. But they really worked together and grew together! As always, it was great to see the other Davis siblings! I loved the family aspect of these stories so much!

I loved the way this series ended. The epilogue was amazing not just for Clay and Caroline, but the other couples as well! If you’re looking for a sweet and sexy romance, this is a book (series) I recommend.
“There’ll never be a day that I don’t love you. Not one. I wasn’t plannin’ on you, baby, and I know you weren’t plannin’ on me, but sometimes what we need to finally feel whole is what we least expect. You are that for me.”

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Publisher}

The third book ended up being the one I enjoyed the most. Although I have to admit that I wasn’t particularly crazy about the ”Insta-Love” aspect. Clay was my favorite Davis sibling, so I am happy he found his someone special.

Clay and Linney have a hot one-night stand after meeting up at a local bar. They never thought it would lead to anything more but when Linney shows up at Leighton’s baby shower, the two cross paths again and it’s like fireworks are igniting from their wildly hot attraction to each other. We learn that Linney went to high school with Leighton and Quinn and that she had a major crush on Clay. She left town with her boyfriend and ended up staying in their abusive relationship a little too long, but now she’s back home and looking to open up her own bookstore and start a new life.

Once their romance starts it goes full speed ahead and within a matter of weeks, Linney is moving in with Clay. There’s some drama with some ex-lovers and mother/daughter relationship woes, but also there is a ton of schmexy going on between our hero and heroine. It got a little excessive so at some point, I started skimming because it became repetitious for me.

Here are my overall ratings on the book:

Hero: 4.5
Heroine: 4
Plot: 3.5
Angst: 2
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 4

Cowboy Up is currently available. Fans of the ”Coming Home” series will no doubt enjoy this last installment.

“No one can hurt me if I don’t let them have the power to do it. Which means I’m better off alone.”

Well… I do love me some Cowboys and Harper Sloan has fast become my go to girl to give me my fix. But seriously though, I have adored this series from the very first book and have waited with baited breath for Clay’s story. There was just something that always intrigued me about him and I just knew Harper would pull out all the stops to deliver his story better than expected. Even though I have loved all the books in the Coming Home series, if I had to choose one, I would probably say Cowboy Up is my favorite.

Clay is the eldest of the Davis siblings and hence a lot of responsibility rests on his shoulders. He has always been the one to take care of the other Davis clan, the family business, he takes his responsibilities seriously. Poor, serious and moody Clay has not had the easiest of lives and history with past relationships and as a result has become quite the loner, but that’s ok because he likes to be by himself. He works too hard and has no time or the inclination for a relationship, until now that is…

Caroline has not had the easiest of lives either. She has had to pack up and leave due to her ex, but this mammoth move was made easier thanks to her two best friends. Now is her chance to live her life for herself and no one else. What she wasn’t counting on though was a steamy one night stand with dark cowboy named Clay.

“I’m not ready to let the woman in my arms go. I’ve never felt this connected to someone. I felt it the first time I had her in my arms, ignored it, but I won’t make that mistake again. I’m sick of living a shadow of a life because I let my fucked-up past cloud my way toward some sort of normal future. Even if nothing comes of this, I’m going to try.”

The attraction and intense chemistry between Clay and Caroline was instant and I just knew this was the beginning of something beautiful. After their initial one night of passion they went their separate ways, but I read with anticipation for fate to step in and bring these two back together again.

I absolutely loved this series and to say I’m sad that it has ended is a massive understatement. Harper Sloan sure knows how to draw you in with her plot, humor, steam, emotion, romance and let’s not forget those broody sexy cowboys that she creates that I just can’t help but fall in love with.

If you’re anything like me and love your possessive and sexy cowboys that will make you swoon beyond all belief, then look no further than Cowboy Up, book three in the Coming Home series. Each story can be read as a stand-alone, so be sure to check it out… you know you want to.

The oldest Davis sibling, Clay, is perfectly content to stay on the ranch and take care of his horses. After being burned once he doesn't want to deal with the hassle of a girlfriend and he doesn't trust the female population all that much. But then a one night stand shows up at his sisters baby shower and all his plans of being alone get thrown right off of that horse. Caroline calls to the protective side of him and it makes him want to never let her go.

Throughout this series Clay's character has been a small presence yet he was never missed. Even with his small scenes in his siblings' books I felt like drawn to him and couldn't wait to get my hands on his own story. And I was not disappointed at all. I really liked that we got to see his internal struggle of wanting Caroline but having a hard time trusting a relationship again. Soon though we were watching him be the one that needed to convince Caroline to give them a chance and I really liked that switch in his characters.

This series is one of my favorites from Harper Sloan and I'm more than a little sad to see it end but I have my fingers crossed that we'll soon see more sexy Cowboys from her.

5 'Love you bad' Stars!
ARC provided by the publisher via Ink Slinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

Harper Sloan released this western romance series during 2017 and I am sad to say goodbye to all of these characters because their love stories brought me so many good feelings. The Davis siblings are all now in very happy relationships and I couldn’t be more ecstatic about it because they totally deserve it! So as you can imagine by what I am saying, Cowboy Up is an amazing addition to the other love stories and the perfect way to end this fantastic series.

So, Cowboy Up is the third installment in Harper's Coming Home series and it's finally time for the oldest Davis sibling to fall in love. Clayton has always been the father figure for both his sibilings and he thinks the life that he has is already good as it is.Well, everything changes when he has an extremely hawt one-night stand with Caroline Michaels. These two have a very strong connection so it's obvious they will meet again (they already knew each other, just not in the biblical sense..) and then their feelings cannot be stopped. Caroline and her dark cowboy start falling in love between lots of sexy times, emotional moments, hilarious situations with their families and Friends and even some drama and suspense. What a great mix!

“Want to?”
“Want to what?”
“Be bad, sugar.”
“I think I do.”

If you, like me, have read the other books in the series, I am sure you were as excited to read Clayton's love story. Who does not love the protective older brother? Well ladies, Clayton Davis is not only a fantastic brother, he is a God in the sack and he is more tan ready to steal all our hearts. Especially Caroline's! This dark cowboy hasn't had the best upbringing neither a good example of having a loving relationship so as you can imagine is not easy for him to want more than a one-night stand. He surely feels the chemistry with Caroline, though! And even though both don't think they will meet again, when they actually do, the sparks and the tension are absolutely out-of-this-world and explosive between them!

“One night of being bad with you, Caroline, and I felt more with you in the darkness than I’ve ever felt with anyone else in the light.”

Their magical night turns into a beautiful relationship that will not leave you indifferent. When these two accept what they feel and act on it, they will leave you breathless. Clayton and Caroline have such a strong connection and both as individuals and as a couple are pretty strong characters. Caroline also comes from a difficult past (with an abusive relationship included) but when she is next to her dark cowboy nothing gets in her way! Not even if there are moments with lots of difficulties or pasts getting in the way or even the drama that happens towards the end. And she is a bookworm! Heck, yeah! That made me love her even more! Also, you know what I really really loved? How much we see of the other couples and how much the Davis siblings love each other. Clayton, Mav and Quinn always have each others backs and their moments together will melt your insides and make you cry like a baby! I loved seeing them so happy and I loved that Clayton and Caroline got their much deserved happy ending!

I never stood a chance at keeping my heart from him. Not when he makes me feel like nothing is impossible.

Therefore, I am rating Cowboy Up with 5 STARS because it was the perfect conclusion for the Davis siblings! After so many suffering, all of them have beautiful families and they will always have each other too. I thoroughly enjoyed the chemistry between Clayton and Caroline (boy, things get SO hot!) and how that connection develops into such an emotional love story. I loved this western series and I can't wait to see what is next from Harper Sloan. This woman never fails to check all my romance boxes and I know she will continue doing it! Highly recommend this book and the whole series!

4.5 ‘Sweeter than apple pie’ Stars

I’ll be damned, Cowboy Up – and everything that is Clayton Davis – was the perfectly tied bow to wrap up this amazing Coming Home series! Pure romance novel perfection!

That’s right, I expected Clayton Davis’ story to be fantastic, given silent and broody men make the best romance heroes, in my opinion, and HOT DAMN, this man sure did surpass my expectations!

“I’m old enough to go after what I want without playin’ games. There ain’t a thing cocky about that.” God, his voice is pure sex."

Incredibly that what Clayton and Caroline thought would be a one time, no strings attached, night stand, where they could lose themselves of their life troubles would end up being just the very beginning of their story. Even if at the time they were anonymous to one another.

I’ve never been kissed so thoroughly.
This is the kind of kiss that sets the bar for any that might follow.
The kind that shows you everything you’ve been missing and everything you never knew you wanted.

Well, one night was more than enough for them to be branded on each other. How could it not? That kind of sexual chemistry, and physical connection we felt from the start couldn’t be beat. It was a ‘once in a lifetime’ occurrence, and they felt it deep in their soul.

“You taste like apple pie all over?” he oddly asks, when the sounds of him getting naked stop.
“What?”
“Never tasted anything better,”

Yep, they were instantly hooked, even though they tried to ignore the connection at first, but once they cross paths again, and realize they aren’t that stranger after all, well, all bets are off, at least on Clayton’s side. There is no way he miss the chance to have what he thought he’d never have in his life, what his siblings had successfully achieved, his very own happy ever after…

This must be what it feels like to miss something so deeply you crave it . . . even if you never really had it to begin with.

“Don’t let go of me,” I tell my dark cowboy.
“Not sure that’s gonna be possible, sweetness,”

I adored that from that second chance meeting, Clayton knew what he wanted, what Caroline represented, and what she could be to him and to his future, and that he was willing to fight for her and with her if necessary, to show her all they could become, that they could be each other’s everything!

“You make me feel like I’m comin’ alive, sweetheart.

Caroline was really as sweet as pie, and considering her sad background, it’s no surprise how strong she is, and how difficult it is for her to accept and believe Clayton could be her chance of true happiness.

“I probably should just tell you all the ugly parts of me so you’ll understand what a waste of time pursuing this would be. Save you from gettin’ upset when you realize you’re wastin’ your time on someone broken,” she mumbles.
“Darlin’, you’re not broken. You’re still standin’, which means you’re just a little dinged up, maybe even a little bit bent, but you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who isn’t.”

I’ve seen bent. I’ve seen fractured. But if the people I know who’ve been both can find what they need to be happy and move on, so can this beautiful woman who has me wrapped in her spell.

Oh my Lordy, see what I mean by how dreamy this cowboy is? If not for one small recollection that Caroline revealed about their past, of something that she witnessed as a teen that kind of tainted my image of him – yes, I know it’s in their past, but it was totally unnecessary for their story, at least to that level, imo – and I just couldn’t erase it from my mind *cue sad face*, he would have been the perfect romance H in my book! He’s so beyond amazing, I really wish I could delete that revelation, lol. Why oh why did that have to be there?! If not, Cowboy Up would have been the full five stars, because their story is THAT fantastic and heartwarming! Want more proof?

/b>“One night of being bad with you, Caroline, and I felt more with you in the darkness than I’ve ever felt with anyone else in the light.

“I feel the pull to you like someone lassoed me around chest and yanked.”

ALL THE QUOTES, people! Seriously, Harper Sloan outdid herself when she created all that is Clayton Davis. This man is pure Romance Hero GOLD, and even though I’m giving you so many snippets of his awesomeness, you have no idea how incredibly hard it was to choose amongst so many brilliant, deep and heart touching quotes! This man… All the feels, I tell you!

It’s his affections, after all, that have shown me how to complete the puzzle inside of me—that have allowed me to finally shed the past and start living.

Ask me, baby. Ask me what roads we’re traveling on.”
“Wh-what roads?”
“The ones that collide together and form one indestructible path."

And better yet, Clay is not only a heart stealing, swoon worthy cowboy, no sir, like he wasn’t lethal enough for our hearts, this man had to be a dirty talking, panty melting, COWBOY! Enough said, consider yourself warned!

“My good girl doesn’t need any help bein’ bad anymore, does she? I’m about to love you so hard, you’ll think I’m still inside you for days. So vividly that you’ll take one step, feel what my hard does to you, and come from just the thought of me takin’ you alone.”

Seriously, I feel like I can’t say anymore to show you how beyond amazing Clayton and Caroline are, and how incredible and enrapturing their love story is: the true epitome of Romance novel!

Sweet, super sexy, and so immensely emotional, that I’m sure will touch even the coldest of hearts and so perfectly fitting for this holiday seasonal! I can’t tell you much more than, here are a few more quotes that I can’t resist showing you and to say: ONE CLICK this baby today!

My reason for waking and my reason for breathing. The woman who made the risk of loving her unquestionably worth it, because with her love, that risk is really just a reward.

“How did I not see it before! You rode in on your white horse, knocked me on my butt, but saved me in the end. My knight in pressed flannel and Wranglers.”

“Never gonna stop lovin’ you, Caroline.”
Her breath hitches. “And I love you, Clayton. Always.”

THAT ENDING!!!! It was PERFECTION! I’ll miss all this guys so much, but Ms. Sloan sure did tied up everything perfectly with an amazing HEA not only for this couple, but for all the Davis family! Sooooo good, and plenty of babies and bright futures for all of them. Perfect ending for this once-tortured, now-blissful siblings! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

And that’s how Clayton and Caroline, Maverick and Leighton, and Quinn and Tate . . . came home.

“One of these days,” I tell her as I roll her onto her back, “I’m gonna have a talk with you about our future.” … “And darlin’, I’m gonna have one hell of a different way of explainin’ my thoughts for our future than I did back then. Until that time comes, you just let me love you slow and fuck you bad.”

I knew! I just knew that I’ll fall in love with Clayton’s story! I loved this sexy, emotional and addictive series, but out of the three books this one is definitely my favorite. Clayton, the eldest of the Davis clan, was just so swoon-worthy. Oh man…this hunk of a man was intense, caring, dominating, loving and so sexy.

The way he’s looking at me right now, this is something I’ve never seen from him. This, right here, is my dark cowboy giving me everything silently. Himself, his love, our future. All of it is shining bright down on us.

Harper Sloan has a way of making me fall in love with her characters and she always leaves me starving for more. Clay and Caroline made an enjoyable and amazing couple and their interactions were both adorable and sizzling hot.

Beautifully written, this heartwarming story has everything that I love in a romance novel, the perfect blend of steam, sweet, passion, humor and angst, the kind of chemistry and strong connection between the main characters that makes me swoon, the kind of hopefulness that makes me believe that HEAs do exist, and that the most precious possession that ever comes to a man in this world is a woman's heart.

Cowboy Up was a great read from start to finish and the ending was absolutely gorgeous and it made my heart pound in my chest as I read it. Catching up with the whole gang was fantastic and I just loved the strong bond the Davis have for each other! If like me you are a sucker for a sizzling and full of heart contemporary romance then look no further.

“There’ll never be a day that I don’t love you. Not one. I wasn’t plannin’ on you, baby, and I know you weren’t plannin’ on me, but sometimes what we need to finally feel whole is what we least expect. You are that for me.”

I am a huge fan of cowboys, and a huge fan of Harper Sloan, so of course I am also a fan of this new series of her ;)

After enjoying the first two books, we have now come to book 3 in the series and it's time for Clay's story.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor hot cowboy

Clay is the oldest of the  Davis clan and I was very curious to see what Harper had in store for him. To me he seemed like the more mature and serious one, in the previous books. Turns out I was right about that. He was the one taking care of the famaily and the ranch.

Clay is also pretty lonely. Not that he is bothered by this, he is too busy to be in a relationship anyways. So he sticks with one night stands...like the one he had with Caroline... :P

Gerelateerde afbeelding

Caroline has just escaped an abusive relationship. One night, shy Caroline does something out of character and has a one night standk with a hot ans mysterious cowboy....

The two of them didn't think they would run into each other again.....but of course they do ;) Turns out they also know each other better than they thought.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor who'd have thunk it

Something inside Clay, calls for him to protect and keep Caroline safe. Guess he changed his mind about the "no relationships" :P

These two were very very sweet together....maybe even a bit too sweet for my liking at times. They were also quite HOT, but you won't hear me complaining about the hotness !!

tumblr_m5cyb8jwTi1rn0y7so1_500.gif (500×225)

With this hot and sweet little number comes the end of this series. All the Davis siblings are happy and in love, as they should be ;)

If you love cowboys, second chance love, and you're a fan of sweet and sexy stories, than you should definitely give this series a try.

The Final book in the Coming Home series brings us an abused woman and an emotional detached Cowboy.

Caroline escaped her abusive ex years prior but going through something traumatic like that leaves it’s scars. She wanted to move home but only comes close enough to the town next over because she doesn’t want anything to do with the mother who refused to help her. She’s got her two best friends and that’s all she needs, until she meets a Mysterious cowboy at a bar.

Clayton Davis is slowly being consumed by the heaviness of responsibility and the loneliness he feels living a life without someone by his side. He’s been badly burned by a previous ex and still struggles with the abandonment of his mother. Clay believes he’ll never let another women in that close again.

Clay and Caroline quickly became my favorite out of this series. This was such a sweet low angst read that had enough action in it to keep it interesting. Leading up to this book, I really thought Clay was going to be the one with the most resistance. Instead he knew Caroline was different and really made this book into why it was my favorite.

I love that Clay gave Caroline all of him. There were no games, just honesty, love and protection. What more could you want from a sexy cowboy? ARC provided by NetGalley.

Just love this one and the entire series.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have to say I couldn’t wait for this book to come out. We met Clayton in the previous books and I couldn’t wait to see how the author would develop his character.
Strong, a parental figure, quiet, hurting, often grouchy in other stories, in this book he became an amazing guy. Tender, loving, loaded with sex appeal, full of heart and emotion just waiting to give it all away. You just want to take him home for yourself. Plus, he is Hella hot! Yumm
Guys like Clayton are the reason women get addicted to romance novels. They represent everything a woman looks for in a man and a wonderful relationship. The author crafted the perfect complement for Clayton in Caroline. This book is full of sparks and even a few surprises along the way.
Packed full of magic between the pages, I know you will also become addicted to the writing of Harper Sloan.
“One night of being bad with you, Caroline, and I felt more with you in the darkness than I’ve ever felt with anyone else in the light.”
Harper Sloan brings us another BEAUTIFUL and SEXY romance from her Coming Home Series, which has quickly become one of my FAVORITE SERIES of the year! It’s about damn time the eldest Davis brother gets his happily ever after, and he finds it in a beautiful, shy bookstore owner.
This insta-LUST romance completely swept me off of my feet! The sexual AND emotional chemistry between Clay and Caroline was off the charts. I could feel it through the pages and in my bones. A man who thinks he could NEVER give up his solitary life, finds something he thought he could NEVER experience with the beauty that is Caroline Michaels.
These two character absolute broke my heart and then carefully put it back together again. Their connection was something special to experience, and it gave me ALL THE FEELS…and then some. Harper Sloan does an AMAZING job at feeding my addiction of country, small-town love stories. COWBOY UP was oh so SEXY, ever so BEAUTIFUL, and incredible EMOTIONAL! It brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion. I devoured Clay’s story in one sitting and the minute I finished, I wanted to start ALL OVER AGAIN! If you weren’t in love with Clayton Davis before, his story will absolutely STEAL YOUR HEART, and RUIN you for other country heroes!
ADORABLE!
I enjoyed reading this book.
It was a really cute romance!
The big bad crouchy rancher who never ever wants to fall in love.
And the hurt little shy girl who steals his heart.
Really sweet. And funny and sexy and exciting and small-town-texasish. ☺
Add a horrible mother and 2 creepy and stupid ex-partners and we have a very interesting story to read until our darlings can ride off into that happily ever after sunset!
I really loved the story and the characters, but I think it should've been edited a bit better. 20 pages less wouldn't have hurt. It's just too long somehow. But I think that's a Harper Sloan thing. This is only my 4th book of hers and I just went back to look at my review for the first book in this series and for Perfectly Imperfect and I said the exact same thing about it: too long and complicated sentences et cetera. :(
It just should've been a bit shorter! It would've made it much more interesting. Readers (me!) are bored easily and I'm afraid that this will happen in this case :/
BUT - it was better than the other books.
Another thing that turned me off a bit, or rather, a LOT: everybody is leaving out the G's at the end of a ...ING-word!!!! A texan cowboy can talk a bit cowboyish like that, but that was way too much old Texas grandpa! I almost stopped reading when they didn't stop talking that way. It sounds like cheap cowboy porn in my head!
And it was way too mushy for my tastes. The way they talk to each other - all those I love yous. Just the I love yous would be totally ok. But they say I Love You and then it goes on for a whole page, how much and in what way and it's so horribly and ridiculously corny and slimey and not at all romantic or sexy anymore - way too much and too often.
But I still loved the book and the people in it !!!! ☺
COWBOY UP was an adorable & sexy & exciting small-town-Texas love story! Hurry to your nearest amazon asap for your own hot cowboy - this one is MINE!!!!
5 Perfect Dark Cowboy Stars
"This must be what it fells like to miss something so deeply you crave it...even if you never really had it to begin with."
I swooned so hard, I nearly fainted! Clayton Davis is as perfect as can be. I couldn’t have loved this more! It was absolutely what I needed and wanted. Sheer Perfection! An amazing end to an amazing series. Harper Sloan has done it again. I’ve fallen head over hills with another sexy cowboy. Cowboy Up is the type of book I could finish and start reading again immediately. FLOVED IT!
Here’s the breakdown: Clayton has been hurt in the past. His ex only wanted him for his money and status, so he’s sworn off relationships. Caroline was emotionally abused by her ex and fled their home when things got too bad to deal. She’s not looking for a relationship either. However, the stars aligned for them and they run into each other at time when they’re both willing to try something different.
What I loved: Everything came together perfectly. It was like the stars aligned for me. Seriously, it has the perfect amount of emotion and heart, drama and suspense, and the chemistry between the main characters was off the charts. The storyline is impeccable and the writing was great.
The main characters and their development over the course of the novel is the true highlight. As I stated before, neither of these characters have a great past with relationships. They’ve been used and abused. The last thing either of them expects is to fall in love. However, the stars aligned for them as well. Neither of them really understood what they were missing out on until they found each other. GAH! It was sheer and utter perfection.
The book is fast-paced. Everything moves rather quickly and I couldn’t have been happier with that. When you know it’s right, why play around, right?
The previous couples are interwoven throughout this book, so not only do we get Caroline and Clayton’s beautiful love story, but we see the progression of each of the other siblings. The ending is amazing. Everything I love about romance was incorporated. I seriously couldn’t be happier with how things turned out. This is a new TOP FAVE!! Highly recommended!
From the first book in Harper Sloan’s Coming Home series, I was completely drawn in by the Davis siblings and the damage done to them by their mother’s abandonment and their father’s less than stellar parenting. Somehow despite it all the three managed to grow up, become their own people, and still have a bond so strong even when one of them was gone for years and I think that was largely due to oldest brother Clay who was determined to shield his siblings and do his best to be there for them no matter what, even though he often feels he failed them. I knew his story was going to be a challenge, Clay has some skewed views on love and marriage, but Ms. Sloan outdid herself in Cowboy Up. She not only gave Clay the happily ever after he more than deserved, she ended this series giving readers everything they want and then just to make sure gave us a bit more. Clever, sassy, emotional, sexy, and completely engaging from the first word to the last Cowboy Up was a perfect romance and the best book in this series by far (and that’s saying something because the others were really good).
Anyone who reads my reviews knows how much I enjoy when a one night stand turns into more especially when they both assume that’s all it is, one night. After a telephone call from her ex sends her reeling Caroline (Linney) Michaels wants to forget and she wants to be a bit reckless so she heads to her one of her best friend’s bar and meets her dark cowboy. A few weeks later they meet again at a baby shower and she realizes that one night stand is the man she had a crush on as a teenager and her friend’s brother. The connection they had that night left them both feeling raw and a bit off balance, but both realize they aren’t going to waste the second chance they were given.
Watching the stoic, set in his ways Clay come completely undone by a woman was outstanding! From the first book it was obvious Clay had hardened his heart and with the exception of those he called family he didn’t let anyone get close. I admired Clay for the way he took care of his brother and sister and his love of the land that had been in their family for generations. It became evident early on that his protective streak now included Caroline. Despite Caroline’s mothers apathetic raising and escaping an abusive relationship, she is a strong, capable and savvy businesswoman. I loved these two together, Caroline helped Clay to soften and showed him it was okay to open up and share his past hurts and helped him to see that his brother and sister grew up to be good people thanks to him. Clay helped Caroline understand her worth, made her feel safe, and made her understand that none of what happened to her was her fault. There was a lot of mutual admiration and respect between them and when you add in their unparalleled attraction, it was obvious these two were made for one another. What I loved most about this book is that the conflict came from outside sources, these two were solid from the start and that never wavered; there was absolute trust and truth between them always.
While this was clearly a romance between Clay and Caroline, there are many scenes with Maverick and Leighton (from book 1), and Quinn and Tate (from book 2) and readers will no doubt appreciate not only catching up with these couples, but the many scenes between the three siblings as their lives continue to change. There were so many heartfelt and sentimental moments that brought tears to my eyes and loads of emotion.
I’ve been shouting this series praises from the beginning and author Harper Sloan ends it on an extremely high note with Cowboy Up.
This had so much promise but I couldn't get past the way the characters in this book talked.
With all the sweetness this, darlin' that and the H's annoying habit of referring to the h as sugar or the even more gratingly 'cute' nickname of Linney and I was ready to call it quits at 38%. I pushed forward but things didn't really improve.
There was a lot of unnecessary (imo) drama with the crazy exes and I didn't really like the confrontation between Caroline and Jess. It was OTT and played out like a 90's soap opera. The cattiness from both the ex and the h felt forced and sank like a bad joke. Made me like the h and the rest of the female supporting cast even less.
It did have some really cute scenes with a lot of corny romance (which I normally love) but the execution fell short.
We're back in Oak Pine, Texas with the 3 Davis siblings. Now it's finaly Clayton's time to fight for his HEA!
He's not a relationship kind of guy. He believes he'll grow old on his farm all alone.
But then one night he meets this mystery girl at the bar and they spend an amazingly erotic night together.
But that's it. He's afraid to go after what he wants.
A few months later he meets her again at his sister and sister-in-law's baby shower.
It's Caroline. A girl his sister was friends with as a kid. But he never knew her back then - he was much older than the girls. But she had a crush on him back then!
Caroline is back in town after running away from her violent ex.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO CAROLINE & CLAYTON???
WILL THERE BE A HAPPY END?
ADORABLE!
I enjoyed reading this book.
It was a really cute romance!
The big bad crouchy rancher who never ever wants to fall in love.
And the hurt little shy girl who steals his heart.
Really sweet. And funny and sexy and exciting and small-town-texasish. ☺
Add a horrible mother and 2 creepy and stupid ex-partners and we have a very interesting story to read until our darlings can ride off into that happily ever after sunset!
I really loved the story and the characters, but I think it should've been edited a bit better. 20 pages less wouldn't have hurt. It's just too long somehow. But I think that's a Harper Sloan thing. This is only my 4th book of hers and I just went back to look at my review for the first book in this series and for Perfectly Imperfect and I said the exact same thing about it: too long and complicated sentences et cetera. :(
It just should've been a bit shorter! It would've made it much more interesting. Readers (me!) are bored easily and I'm afraid that this will happen in this case :/
BUT - it was better than the other books.
Another thing that turned me off a bit, or rather, a LOT: everybody is leaving out the G's at the end of a ...ING-word!!!! A texan cowboy can talk a bit cowboyish like that, but that was way too much old Texas grandpa! I almost stopped reading when they didn't stop talking that way. It sounds like cheap cowboy porn in my head!
And it was way too mushy for my tastes. The way they talk to each other - all those I love yous. Just the I love yous would be totally ok. But they say I Love You and then it goes on for a whole page, how much and in what way and it's so horribly and ridiculously corny and slimey and not at all romantic or sexy anymore - way too much and too often.
But I still loved the book and the people in it !!!! ☺
COWBOY UP was an adorable & sexy & exciting small-town-Texas love story! Hurry to your nearest amazon asap for your own hot cowboy - this one is MINE!!!!
I need a dark cowboy!!!
I 've been so looking forward to this book since the start of this series. Clayton as alway been the strong sibling in the Davis family. He's the one that holds them all together. He is so sexy and can be broody at times (not as bad as Maverick God is he broody but again sexy as hell.) Clayton is really hard working and family mean everything to him. The Davis clang haven't had the best life growing up. But Clayton being the oldest was always there for his brother and sister who he is super protective over. His love life hasnt been great either. Him workings hard doesn't help but he doesn't have a shortage of woman after him. After work of not having anyone he didn't imagine finding his future in Hazel's bar.
Caroline as lives through so much in her short life. Her mum is just totally evil. Made life so hard for Caroline that she had no choice to get away. Then there was her ex who was so nice to her and promised her a good life. Then he turned out to be just as bad. But Caroline picked herself up and with the help of her best friends Lucy and Luke life was looking up. It got even better when she had a wild nite with a dark cowboy.
This book was really good I really enjoyed. Clayton is by far the best hero in this series. I luvd the way he was Caroline. He protects the woman in u a life so well. He's not overbearing he's just so caring and luving. Caroline is brilliant to. Her character is so sweet and gentle. She doesn't deserve what she had to put up with. Clayton was the perfect man for her it what she needed to put her life aback on track. He even brought out the bad girl in her. They just are the perfect couple.
I would highly recommend this book. It was great book and a great end to the series. Though I am hoping that we get more of Lucy and Luke he's so hot.
***I received an ARC of this book in order to offer an honest review***
First and foremost - reviewing a contemporary is tough for me because it's not my favorite genre. If I give a book five stars it's because everything in it blew me away - and that rarely happens in a genre that frequently feels awkward to me. Still, I enjoy reading good contemporary romances, and I'm always looking for that perfect book that knocks me on my ass.
Shy Caroline is rebuilding her life after her awful mother and abusive boyfriend combined to nearly destroy her. Feeling wild one night she meets a cowboy who gives her the chance to let go. When Clay, her one-night-ride, pops back up in her life Caroline and he have to figure out if they're going to build on the intense sparks between them.
I loved - that Caroline and Clay didn't create their own drama. They were open honest and so incredibly sweet. Clay was alpha-cowboy while being respectful. And this book was LOADED with steam. If a confectionary sensual cowboy read is your cup of tea then, let me tell you, this book is gonna blow your socks off.
I didn't love - all the sugar. These two were so schmoopy I wanted to gag them. Some of Clay's lines had my toes curling - and some of them had me wanting to roll me eyes right out of my skull. And alllllllllll the sex. I generally skim sex scenes in my romance reads - and this one had quite a few of them. Also, this book didn't have the most real feel - I feel bad for romance authors because I want realistic without reality. I'm not sure how they're supposed to deliver that, but I need it.
If you're looking to see a couple of salt-of-the-earth people who got shoveled a lot of shit finally find their good and revel in it then you should go for it with Cowboy Up.
Coming Home gets it ending in a spectacular and emotionally driven that evokes a whirlwind of a tale to satisfy!!
Cowboy Up is a story I have been looking forward to so very much, and I was kinda sad that this was the conclusion but also very exciting to be able to read Clay's story since I have been wanting his from the very beginning. I will say that Cowboy Up might just be my favorite of the trilogy, there was so much raw emotion that is introduced that I didn't quite see as much in books one and two. And hardly any drama except for external circumstances, when it comes to their relationship, its so sweet and sexy and Harper Sloan takes us on a romantic ride you won't forget and is a must for any romance reader.
Cowboy Up begins with our heroine going out dancing and wanted just a one night's stand. She is just looking for a diversion from her crazy life and she doesn't expect to find her forever. Her best friend Luke introduces her to a cowboy who just wants to be a little "bad" with her. They share a crazy night of sex and passion and for both Clayton and Caroline, its one of the best nights of their lives and they don't even truly know each other. Two months have passed, and Caroline is currently homeless having had her bookstore being set on fire. While attending a baby shower for (our heroine from books one and two) she sees the man that she can't stop thinking about and the one man she thought she would never see again....Clayton Davis. Both Clayton and Caroline haven't had the best luck in the relationship department but the minute they find each other again, they want to take the risk that what they feel for each other is very real and worth taking a chance on.
Cowboy Up is a wild ride of emotion and passion and a story I honestly couldn't get enough. I really just became so addicted to this book and didn't want to put it down. This book is so wonderful in many ways. One is the actual romance that builds between Caroline and Clayton. At first, it starts out as just a casual fling. They both have some damage and mistrust done to them in the past so we see them just wanted one night to forget and enjoy the moment. Clayton hasn't had a serious relationship for over four years. He was betrayed and hurt the most but also he doesn't know if he could ever have children and most women couldn't be with him because of that. Our heroine, Caroline, has suffered both emotional and physical abuse in her life. So she does have some trust issues and she does have to deal with certain internal issues, which is understandable when you see the abusive relationship she left and moved on from. Even from the beginning, Clayton is so great with Caroline and the effects of her past abuse. He doesn't shy away from the serious problems that they face. I found their relationship to be refreshing because we see that once they see each other again, they want a relationship and to see where it takes them. There is some conflicts involved but its more outside of them, its not in the actual inner workings of their relationship and that was like a breath of fresh air. Being able to see a couple want to be together from the beginning and not let drama or a ton of crazy miscommunication get in the way of how they feel about each other.
For the first time in my life, I don't care what anyone else thinks--I'm just happy this man makes me feel safe, shows me how to be bad, and breathes new life back into me with every small step of us exploring. If this is how strong we are after such a short time, I can hardly wait to see what comes next.
We also get some fun times with the siblings, and man it made me remember why I love this family so much. They just get each other so well and the humor is fantastic, I was laughing so hard in this one, seeing how much they tease and play with one another. Boy the pregnancy hormones moments were brilliant. I mean really, the way that these two sisters in laws just get their men so worried is very comical and very real. These big tough cowboys weakened by their wives being pregnant was so delightful at times.
The ending was done so very well and I was highly impressed in seeing how this author handled it. I didn't want it to end but the ways that Harper Sloan wrote the ending was perfect and I couldn't have imagined it better.
"You make me need everything' I never wanted. "
Clayton’s story has been a highly anticipated read for me and it was so worth the wait. He is the oldest Davis sibling and takes his position in the family very seriously. A father figure to his brother Maverick and sister Quinn, he has seen them both fall in love and settle into their own happy lives. Like a proud dad he has stood by them through the good and bad times with a sense of pride.
Clayton has never seen the same sort of future for himself, his past experience with a woman he thought he might a have a future with left him with a bitter wall around his heart. He now works from sun up to sun down and occasionally beds a woman when he needs the release. Everything changes when a beautiful girls sits down beside him on a bar stool one night.
Caroline is orginally from Pine Oak but hasn’t been back for years after being cast aside by her mother when she left to be with her then boyfriend. Her fairy tale dreams were soon squashed when he revealed his true personality traits and she bore the physical brunt of those. When the chance to get away from him was there, Caroline took it and has been able to make a life for herself in a nearby small town running her own book store.
It is by chance that Caroline meets ‘Davis’ the night she goes into her friend’s bar for a drink. In fact, she hardly recognises herself when he strikes up a conversation with him. She is quite introverted and shy but this gorgeous cowboy is stirring something in her that she wants to explore. One night of incredible sex with a hot cowboy could be just what she needs right now and when he asks her to be ‘bad’ with him for one night her panties pretty melt away.
"Want to?" Pulling my eyes away from the strangely erotic sight of his hand, I look toward his shadowed face. "Want to what?" "Be bad, sugar."
When Clayton and Caroline’s paths cross again he is determined, this time, not to let her walk away from him. That night they spend together changed something in Clayton and he is feelings things for Caroline that he never has before. It’s like she was made just for him and he knows that the feelings he has are not one sided. Caroline feels the connection too and it almost feels too good to be true.
"But my dark cowboy won’t twist my trust into something ugly. He’s a good man—always kind to others, humble in his pride, fierce with control, and worthy of respect. My heart feels the safety within his promise. My mind recognizes our connection without doubts."
Now this wouldn’t be a true cowboy story without some baddies right? There are a few nasty people with vendetta’s against not just Caroline but Clayton too. However, for the first time in her life, Caroline is facing them head on. Clayton makes her feel brave enough to stand up to the people in her past who have hurt her, she finds incredible strength in Clayton’s love for her.
"I’m finally living a life free of trepidation and wild with adoration. Who would’ve thought that one night with a dark cowboy would heal my soul of fear?"
This was everything I hoped it would be, with plenty of storyline that featured Maverick & Leighton and Tate & Quinn.
"I knew it was time to cowboy up the second my good girl gave me her bad and together we made magic."
This was so amazing! Cowboy Up is full of so much heart, healing, and love. I absolutely adored it. I've loved the entire series but hands down this was my favorite. It was the perfect way to wrap everything up!
I have wanted Clay's story since book one so I was really excited to start. Clayton is so protective and caring, and will do anything for his family. He also had a way with words that made me swoon. I loved Clay, learning all the ends and outs of him and what made him tick but it was Caroline who really got to me. She’s a shy, timed thing so learning her history and watching her open up and become stronger was amazing. Clayton and Caroline have an unconventional first meeting that's filled with so much passion and chemistry and from there, everything evolved. I was so hooked and ate it up. It was fun and sweet and sexy, it was also so incredibly emotional. I was laughing and crying and rooting for them.
Not only is there Clayton and Caroline's story, but there is also more of Clayton and his siblings so I felt like there was a whole bunch of mini stories happening. I loved it all so much! I adored the updates about where everyone was at in their lives and what was going on, and seeing those bonds and connections. It was truly fantastic. I am such a sucker for male bonding and sibling bonding, and I got choked up a countless amount of times thanks to all these wonderful moments they shared. As much emotion as they brought, they also brought the fun. There was a great mix of playfulness and camaraderie that made me smile.
You really get everything with this. There is passion and heat (seriously with the heat - this is one hot freaking cowboy!). There's drama and a bit of suspense. There's a beautiful love story happening that is so incredibly sweet. People healing and coming together and becoming stronger. It was just so well written and thought out. Great pace and build and I loved the details. And that epilogue, it wrecked me in a good way.
This has been such an incredible series and I love how everything was tied up and finalized. I feel so much closure. I felt this one deep. Beautiful story!
3 Being Bad is Oh, So Good Stars
* * * Spoiler Free
Those who know me, know I love my Cowboys, Small Towns, Western reads. I will go for awhile and read all the Alpha Male Billionaires, all the Cute Meets with then the characters end up being in the He's My Boss thing or the Best Friend's Sister is Off Limits and then Bam a romance blooms. Love all of them...
But for some reason, I have a special place for all those Cowboys and the women who love them....
Which caused me to pick up Harper Sloan's Cowboy Up, (Coming Home, #3).
Now I had not read the first two books. From my experience with this entry, I understand Clayton Davis, our main focus, was the eldest sibling. All of the other siblings had their own tales. I was able to follow along without any troubles.
Clayton Davis fits the mold of brooding, dark and closed off...works the land, looks out for his siblings and does the no long term relationship thing. He recently had a seriously bad scrap off with his last encounter and she is not playing by any of the agreed upon rules he had set out. He has since just been out there working the ranch, emotionally closed off for months and it has gotten a bit old. He is happy his siblings have found their women... but it also highlights how alone he is...
Caroline Michaels has had to fight her way out of a small town with a horrific mother, only to land in an abusive marriage. She survived that and with determination and support of close friends, she has come out the other end. She has built her life all over again with owning her bookstore. Things are turning around for her...
But her Ex still tracks down every new phone number and tonight he called her. This making Caroline needing something... but not knowing what...She goes to her friend's bar to settle her nerves. As she sits at the end, where the owner can look out for her, she sees a profile of the Mythical Man...
You know the one...that vision of Cowboy, black hat hiding most of the face.... chiseled jaw and lips just so...With her friend's warning to "Be Good" and the nod that this cowboy is "Ok" to look out for her, Caroline comments she doesn't know how to anything but...wouldn't know how to be bad even if she wanted to....
Which leads to our cowboy saying he could show her how....To Be Bad....
Caroling shocked yet feels this is just what she should do after being good has gotten her no where...
A few shots later, Caroline and this man Davis...are in the motel across the way from the bar doing the bad...real good.
He asked and she said no lights...and so in the still of the night, cloaked in darkness...this Davis showed this woman what being bad was all about...The experience hit like a ton of bricks...left a huge imprint on the both of them equally. The cowboy is gone in the morning leaving Caroline thinking it was better that way.
Months pass and neither one of them try to figure out how to reconnect. Both thinking to just let it go. Then an event has them confronting each other as who they are...Clayton Davis... 5 years older than Caroline... her secret crush from high school....
This time... the desire and chemistry is too much... even stoic Clayton decides he is going to explore
this pull he has for Caroline... and primarily that is the main focus of this tale.
There is the added layer of dealing with small town issues, her crappy mother and ugly ex's on both sides. There is also happy times for both of Clayton siblings.
All of this was well and good but the interesting and more gritty introduction at the bar and what followed....trailed off into a more emotional, continual mentioning of feelings and declarations- especially from Clayton...
Now the good was this couple didn't play games or pretend. They communicated - which was great. I just had a hard time relating how Clayton expressed his devotion to the stoic, dark cowboy presented in the beginning ...His emotions would go over the top when it came to Caroline... but he would be able to be more realistic when counseling his brothers.
Caroline was a winner in this. She pulled herself through her own personal fire and rose up to be strong and able to take on anything. With the support of her friends and Clayton, she became the woman she always wanted to be... and with Clayton everything fell into place.
For those who have enjoyed the first to books of this series, I am sure you will fall hard for Clayton and Caroline. If you love an emotional journey with a Cowboy and his true love...then this is for you.
Clayton's story is one that I had been waiting for since we met him in Lost Rider, he had an air of mystery and I was more than intrigued. In Kiss My Boots we learn a bit more about the eldest brother in the Davis Family but we still didn't know the root of his being, well I am thrilled with what we finally get to see and more than happy with the way his story turned out. You know the saying saved the best for last? well that is exactly what Harper Sloan has done here, and that's really saying something since I really enjoyed the first two books.
Favorite Quote:  "I knew it was time to cowboy up the second my good girl gave me her bad and together we made magic."
The third and final book in this trilogy featuring the Davis siblings - and I licked up this book like it was made from sugar. Listen - it's sappy. It's over the top in the emotional department. There is insta love and an over protective hero and a sibling relationship that is - over the top. But it's the book I needed this holiday season!! I adored the first two books in this series, and this one just made me feel squishy happy and I'm sad we are done with this family but I look forward to more from this author. I had never read her before I picked up book one, and she makes me happy with her grumpy, grunty heroes...
"Pleasure," I rumble, my voice just as thick as my cock.
...and heroines who make me smile.
Clay Davis is that grumpy and grunty hero. He wears a Stetson low on his head. He runs his family's ranch. Once a womanizer, he is done with sleeping around. He watches his brother and sister find the love of their lives and realizes that he may be missing out. One night while having a drink at the local bar, a woman sits next to him - and there is an instant flirtation.
This woman is our heroine, Caroline. Getting out of a super controlling relationship, and having that same ex still harassing her with phone calls, Caroline drives the short distance back to her hometown for a drink at a bar, which one of her best friends owns. Caroline has a small, very close-knit group of friends that are also her family. Estranged from her mother, Caroline owns a bookstore and lives above it. When she plops herself down on the bar stool, her best friend vouches for the cowboy sitting next to her, but she doesn't know his name and she can't really see his face with his Stetson so low. But she notices his long fingers, and muscled thighs. Caroline is a bit shy, but for some reason, this low talking cowboy gets her going
“Want to?”
Pulling my eyes from the strangely erotic sight of his hand, I look toward his shadowed face.
“Want to what?”
“Be bad, sugar.”
Heat hot as fire washes over me with his words. Holy cow. My jaw works, but words elude me. I don’t even know this man’s name, let alone anything about him, and if my rusty knowledge of flirting is right, he just propositioned me. Why I find that as hot as I do, I’ll never know, but before I even know what’s happening, my brain finally figures out how to get the words past my shocked jaw.
“I think I do.”
She ends up in a motel room with him. After sex in the dark, a shower in the dark (do people really shower together in the dark??) and this cowboy leaving  before the sun comes up, Caroline has no idea who rocked her world that night. But she is sated and content.
When a fire erupts in her store, and burns down her apartment above as well, she is devastated.  Moving in with her best friend from her hometown, she runs into Clay Davis - and he runs into her - and she realizes he is the one she slept with! They know each other from years earlier, and Caroline is close with his sister and sister in-law. Clay sees her again and knows he can't let her go a second time. They basically fall in love immediately and I was there for it.
The rest of the book is a lot to do with Clay's brother and sister, as they are both expecting babies and there are a lot of emotions. The siblings are VERY close. They have deep talks all the time - like when  Maverick is terrified about his wife giving birth and Clay is there for him....
“I won’t be able to move on if I lose her,” he continues, completely ignoring my attempt at lightening the mood and I realize just how much this has been weighing on him.
“Maverick,” I hiss through the thickness in my own damn throat and pull my brother into my arms. His own come around me with bruising force.
“Can’t talk to her about this shit, Clay. I don’t want her worryin’ about it when she should be focusin’ on all the happy shit, but it’s tearin’ me apart just thinkin’ about losing her.”
“Fuck, brother.”
Clay doesn't think he ever wants kids, and Caroline is not sure she can be with a man who doesn't want a family - don't worry - it gets settled pretty fast. There isn't a ton that happens in this book, as Clay and Caroline are basically in love by the half way point. But it held my interest. Since book one, I've been invested in this family so spending time with the siblings and their drama with having babies made me very happy. It would probably be best not to read this as a stand alone so you can experience all of the family dynamics leading into this book.
There is some ridiculous suspense at the end which I could have lived without. But we get a lovely epilogue and then another epilogue and it made my heart smile. Damn it.
I had so much fun reading this series. Totally escapism, which I need now and then.
Can I just say that the Coming Home Series just gets better and better with every book? Because holy apple pies, I did not expect most of what happened in this one. Clay and Linney’s story still has that sweet, swoon-worthy and panty-melting goodness all over, but it certainly has more blood-pumping action compared to the first two books and I LOVED IT! Needless to say, Cowboy Up had me hook, line and sinker.
Clayton is the oldest Davis sibling and for some reason, he resonated something within me from the very first time we met him in Lost Rider. Maybe it’s because of the fact that he always protected and took care of his younger siblings, making sure that they were well and safe, and it made my heart ache that after everything, he just hasn’t found anyone who’d love him unconditionally in a way only his woman can—someone who would be there for him when his brother and sister couldn’t. Someone who’d understand him on a deeper level and accept him for who he truly is entirely. Clayton Davis is the kind of guy who loves hard and deep, and he definitely deserves nothing short of someone who could give all of that back a thousand fold and more.
Caroline Michaels (aka Linney, as Clay loves to call her) is a woman I never saw coming, but is the absolute perfect fit for Clay. I loved her quirky bashfulness—the way she blurts the most unexpected things out without realizing it and trying with all of her heart to take it all back without feat. The way she’s the best blend of naughty and nice, and has the inner strength of a warrior. And most especially, the way she found her safe haven in Clayton’s arms after all of the things she went through.
These two certainly didn’t have the most traditional of first encounters, but with the chemistry that sparked up and burned between them like the fireworks on the Fourth of July that night? You’d know and feel deep in your bones that they were just inevitable. It was only a matter of time and the hand of fate pushing them together, for them to see and realize it. And witnessing all of that love grow and unfold between them was just pure bliss and beauty.
Out of the three books, this just might be my favorite. I loved Quinn & Tate’s book, Kiss My Boots, next to this one, but Cowboy Up just had a little bit of a different feel from the first two in the series. This one enraptured and engulfed me more with so much emotions. Like it was packed with almost everything that makes up a great western romance novel that will leave you sighing and swooning one moment, and having your eyes bugged out and your jaw hanging the next. And the humor! God, all the moments were just on point in this one. Q’s still the absolute hilarious chick I love like no other, but Caroline... there are just solid moments where she’s all shy and quiet, then next thing you know, the things coming out of her mouth will make you sputter and cackle. It just made this tale so much more entertaining for me. Brilliant end to the Coming Home series for sure!
Once again, Harper Sloan has brought me to my knees with her beautiful writing and exquisite romance. Cowboy up is the third book in the Coming Home series and tells the story of the oldest Davis brother, Clayton. If you have read the two previous books in the series you will remember him as being the broody older brother with no intention of finding love. But, as we have come to expect in romance, fate has other plans for these men who don't feel like they need to find love to be happy. Now, while this is typical within the genre, Sloan's books are far more epic then reformed bad boy finding love. The emotion, build-up, and feeling of undying love is shown in the most beautiful ways and readers are likely to feel every breath and every moment of their love. I have said it before and I will say it again, her books (specifically in this series) are FILLED with honest and raw emotion and they stand apart from any other romance book I have ever read before. I have fallen deeply in love with the authors books after reading this series and I plan to continue reading all her books in the future based on it.
** Please, Please, PLEASE write a spin-off of this series featuring the couples children. I can see some amazing friends to lovers romance in the future (crosses fingers) **
Without going into the plot, I will give a light overview of what readers can expect when they grab a copy of Cowboy Up. First, you're going to meet some amazing cowboys (and one cowgirl) with hearts bigger then the country. These men (and Quinn), although hesitant to find love, are going to find it in the most unexpected ways. The buildup to all of their relationships is pretty easy and uncomplicated, but external forces will play a part in their likelihood of a future. This book in particular has a bit of suspense added to the mix, so readers should be aware of this, but other than that, the plot is simple but powerful.
The characters in the book are utterly amazing. I love their hearts, the way they interact with one another, and the sense and close bond of family. Readers hearts are going to SWELL when they feel the powerful bond they all have with one another.
The small town feel in the story is also well told. Readers can expect to feel like they are a part of the community even though there isn't a lot of interaction between the community and these characters. I suppose that in order to feel this you would want to read all three books.
The conflicts in each book (including this one) are all interconnected. Family issues and difficulties with the characters parents play a huge role in their hesitancy and fear of committing, but you'll have to read the stories in order to form a deep understanding of these issues. Just be aware that it can be emotional. We all want to believe that life and families are all hearts, sunshine, and rainbows but some families aren't like that. This book SHOWS that no matter what kind of family you come from that you can overcome it and make your life as meaningful and beautiful as you want.
With that, I loved this book and I LOVE this series as a whole. It's my favorite SERIES of 2017. I hope the author will consider a spin-off (as I mentioned above) because I would love to see new love stories for all the kids.
If you're looking for a book/series to get swept away in, one that will make you FEEL, swoon, and fall hopelessly devoted and in love with then I recommend this one to you.
It takes a bit of an adjustment to get back into cowboy land with Harper Sloan.
Throw in the soap-opera angle (because it really is) with many overreactions, over-the-top responses, lengthy declarations of emotions and there’s always something loud, hysterical and irrepressible about this series where characters don’t do anything softly. They laugh, weep, shout and wave their arms with exaggeration in a place where cowboys swagger hard, women’s panties get wet like dripping taps and hard verbal shots are slung without abandon. ‘Cowboy Up’ is for want of a better word, an impetuous read that rides on the wild side, and it’s akin to getting blown through an oncoming hurricane of torrential high drama.
And the story started that way—all in, with no room for regrets that briefly pushed their way to the surface, from a scorching one-night stand that dovetailed really quickly into a declaration from Clayton Davis that Caroline was the woman he’d always wanted in his life, though it’s probably swoony enough for readers who want to read about a male protagonist who found himself balls-deep (and not just literally) and wholly devoted to the woman from the start.
This was the unbelievable stretch for me, since I found it bewildering that Clayton extrapolated that bright future for him and Caroline all after a one-nighter where a connection had apparently been forged soul-deep. Yet all I could see was a relationship that felt at first, more like dependence on Caroline’s part rather than one of equals—with Clayton acting almost as a crutch while she got her feet up and about again. To be fair, Caroline’s skittish and somewhat needy behaviour has stemmed from losing everything and being in several abused relationships in a manner that Clayton could only step in as the alpha protector role which was easy for him to do so.
‘Cowboy Up’ rides high on emotion, albeit too much for me perhaps, because too much of it felt overplayed and I really thought I would have enjoyed this more. As always, there isn’t any reason why this wouldn’t work for others even if it couldn’t resonate with me. But with my ears feeling as though they’re still ringing and my head still woozy at the speed with which things went down, I was nonetheless, sort of relieved when the sun finally set on their HEA.
Caroline and Clayton spent one anonymous night together. A few months later neither one of them has forgotten the other so when they unexpectedly meet again they each take the opportunity to see where this thing they have between them will lead.
This was a deeply romantic book with just a tad of angst and then some small amount of extreme drama toward the end. Once Clayton had a second chance at Caroline he was all in. She had never felt the love of any man, much less a good man and her heart is instantly ensnared by her dark cowboy.
There were times when I actually got a bit bored with all the sweet, romantic dialogue between these two. The angst was so low there was nothing really driving their story. For those who love such a story, this one is going to be the perfect read for you. The epilogue was great giving us a look fifteen years into the future.
This is an honest review of an advanced copy provided by NetGalley and Gallery Books.
Dual POV
Some ow drama but the hero hasn’t had anything to do with her for several years; some om drama although, again, the heroine had nothing to do with him for several years
Possible triggers – domestic abuse
5 "BE BAD, SUGAR." STARS!
Cowboy Up is Clayton Davis' story. We first meet the dark and brooding cowboy in Lost Rider, book one in Harper's Coming Home Series. He's the eldest Davis and the protector of the family, but underneath that family man is one dirty talking swoon-worthy man!
I don't know where to begin to describe the beauty that is Clay. Clayton Davis is a God. He brings all the feels instantly, becoming a favorite of mine in a matter of minutes.
Now, Cowboy Up may have told the story of Clay, but Caroline Michaels stole the show! She's a bookworm at heart and from the very first page you know that Caroline is something special. She's all sweetness with a shy personality, but she's also a woman that's been hurt a lot throughout her life. Clay becomes her protector and her safety net. Their paths intertwine perfectly, especially since they're both escaping a painful past. Clay opens a whole new world of possibilities for Caroline, while she makes him see that it's okay to let go of his control, let go of the ruins, and just open up his heart.
Clay and Caroline ignited the pages with their powerful chemistry. You could feel it in waves. It gave me goosebumps. Oh sweet Moses, did Harper Sloan have this book nicely tucked in her sleeve. As they say, saving the best for last, indeed!
This book was everything. It had me smiling like a loon one moment and on the edge of my seat in a blink of an eye. That's the beauty of Harper Sloan's storytelling. Then we have that wonderful and powerful epilogue #sigh. It's probably one of my favorite epilogues I've ever read 😭😢😍 What a perfect ending, tying all the Davis' stories together as you witness their growth. It was evolving! It brought tears to my eyes. This might have been the end to this series, but I'm hoping Harper considers writing books for Lucy and Luke!!!! #Prettyplease
