A kingdom with a dark secret. An immortal king. An epic adventure.

Cursed with the power to impose his will on those around him, forcing everyone he meets to gradually become him, Hunter has become the hunted. The immortal King Tykus will stop at nothing to destroy him...or to brainwash him into becoming the king's ultimate weapon.

Fleeing the kingdom, Hunter meets a woman with the same horrible power...an exiled master swordswoman named Vi. A wise-cracking, butt-kicking, badass warrior, she has one rule: keep up with her...or die.

Now Hunter must survive Vi's brutal training regimen to become a master swordsman. If he succeeds, he'll have a chance at fighting back against the all-powerful King Tykus. If he fails, his enemies will surely kill him. That is, if Vi doesn't do it first!

A little different then I'm use to reading. Well done sir. Independent writers have a different kind of talent when it comes to writing a story.

Fate of Legends 1
Eight years ago, Hunter’s mother died, and his life was destroyed.

Now, with an alcoholic father and no future, Hunter watches as his friends get ready for college, knowing that he will not be joining them. Half-black, half-white, he is a product of two cultures but belongs in neither of them, the target of brutal racism.

Then his father reveals that his mother may not have died after all – that she was pulled into a mysterious portal while studying an ancient artifact – and that his father had stayed behind to care for Hunter.

Hunter is determined to go after his mother, to enter the portal and bring her back. But when he does, he finds himself in a strange medieval kingdom…one where his race represents a dire threat to their people.

Now Hunter must find his mother, and rise against a kingdom that will stop at nothing to destroy him. It is the start of an epic, action-packed adventure that will change his life forever…or end it!
Total Score: 5/5

Summary:

Received for an honest review.

Hunter's life was changed forever when his mother died leaving him with his broken father. It wasn't until years later that he found out the truth. Is mother didn't die, she disappeared through a doorway and never returned. Hunter makes a rash decision to find her not realizing that one thought would changed his life forging a new and unexpected path.

This was a complex plot with twists that left the reader wondering who was really the good guys. Hunter first met beings that appeared both fearsome and evil and when Hunter was aided by men thinking that he was saved. That is until they arrived at their kingdom what seemed to be built on the skeletons literally. That in itself was creepy enough to wonder what he had gotten himself into and that is just the beginning of this incredible story.

Add to that Hunter's issues of being biracial that carried over to the new world in a that was never expected.

A special thank you to Clayton Wood for a copy of your novel Hunter of Legends before its release.

I feel bad having to rate this at only 3.5 stars, but it was hard for me to feel attached to many of the characters (especially Hunter), but the plot was driven very well, and a part of me was sort of lost by the conclusion: you have Vi , probably one of the best characters in the book that was such a great role model for Hunter, dying, the substitute king dying who was also the son of the Duke who will have no more heirs, and then you go on to discover that Hunter's mother was still alive this whole time and Hunter kills her and his brother!

Very shocking at once to say the least. But while I found some of the characters dry (I just didn't like Sukri and Gammon at all during the course of the entirety of this plus I can totally see the Guild trying to get them to kill Hunter ), I was hooked into the world's background. I'm very interested in say, the Deep and any alternative kingdoms the sequel may lead us to. There is still a lot to learn and discover for Hunter yet. Although it makes me wonder all the same, is there any recourse for a boy killing his own mother? How can you even come back from that?

Moreover, I really liked the "emotion," "artifact," "influence," "imprinting," kind of distinct setting for the universe. It's a very cool concept and I think it's something a lot of people can understand and get by if we had such a system like that in our own world. I really want to see where Hunter will decide to run with this, because well, he is on his own. Looking forward to the next.

I find this story a bit difficult to review. I nearly walked away from it multiple times.

The central idea, the way of the world, nearly forces the examination of a host of heavy issues. In many was it feels like an extension and exaggeration of how our world can influenc us, albeit to the extreme. And there are such examinations. But, they are given such a juvenile and simplistic treatment that things often felt childish and stilted. Still, the main protagonist is a male in his teens and that is likely the target audience. I am, in fact, growing quite old. I would likely have rated this higher some 50 years ago...

Interesting and unique

What an interesting book. Unique and powerful. Its a bit of a hard read at places. Did not flow as easily as my favorite authors.

The story kept me coming back. But I got tired while reading. Other books I can read in one sitting.

I also thought it was a little busy. Switching between too many things.

That said. I will read the next one. I love Vi. She better be in book 2 ... Or else..

Disappointing folly

shocked the reviews were so misleading, this silly novel really went from bad to worse. characters on another world called Trixie, Gammon (!) and Edgar set the tone. repetitive, regurgitated and rancid. steer clear

This book confused the hell out of me. It's not at all what I expected which in turn was an excellent surprise. It does seem quite slow but still definitely worth the read. Can't wait to read what happens in the second book.

Fantastic, kept me gripped.

Brilliant, what can I say, loved this book and can't wait to read the rest of them. Held me to my seat, nothing got done, so many little twists and turns.

Not anyone can be an author. It's an actual skill you need to be born with or acquire through hard work, BEFORE publishing a book. This is like season 50 of the Simpsons or Futurama: you can instantly see the low quality of the writing

Maybe 1.5*
Only organic things can pass through the portal.....and clothes, backpack, and guns? Many locations seem to have the vaguest names (the forest, the fringe, the deep, etc). The male characters when written from their POV completely objectify women. The author also seems, to me, to be trying to incorporate as many hot topics from today into his story (I realize it's the author's right, but at the same time I ask myself why? how does it improve the story? do I want to read about these topics in a fantasy setting?). The magic system mixes words and their meaning like will and personality, and other complexities that make figuring out the magic system fairly difficult in my opinion

Honestly, I think I should've stopped reading this book earlier but I'm stubborn and don't like not finishing books.
