Renan Garr, a wealthy Narovian trader paid the match making service to find his genetic mate on Earth. Alien pirates illegally obtained a list of some of these Earther matches and kidnapped them, holding them for ransom to there Narovian mates. After Alliance Law Enforcement rescued them, the Earther matches had the choice whether to meet their genetic mates. Kelly Richards met Renan on a com connection but wasn’t sure she wanted to be mated to a man who wanted her to live on Narova. When she didn’t respond after a few weeks, Renan takes matters into his own hands.
Clarissa Lake grew up watching Star Trek and reading Marvel Comics. She attended science fiction and fantasy conventions where she met many well known science fiction author and attended their readings and discussion panels. They included scifi greats Anne McCaffery, CJ Cherry, George RR Martin, Ben Bova, Timothy Zahn, Frederik Pohl, Orson Scot Card. While she loves scifi, she always thought there should be more romance so she started writing it hot and steamy.
2 Stars for HER ALIEN TRADER. Not enough plot, nearly all Insta-Mate. My rating guide: 1= dnf/What was that?; 2= NOPE; NOT FOR ME; 3= I mostly enjoyed it; 4= Yes, I liked it a lot; 5= I Loved it, it was great!
Novella HER ALIEN TRADER, #99 in Clarissa Lake’s Narovian Mates series is a very quick reading (under an hour) steamy standalone Alien story with very little plot. Kelly Richards/FMC, 27, feeling a dissatisfaction with her present life, joins and meets her genetic match on a interstellar match site, Com connection. Narovian Renan Garr/MMC is a successful interstellar trader. He joined the Com match connection site because opportunities for quality life-mate matches are rare on Narova.
I received HER ALIEN TRADER as a freebie (somewhere) as an introduction to CL’s Narovian world and as an opportunity to consider additional titles. Every now and then, I enjoy a short novella to “cleanse my palate” between longer books. Sometimes a quick Space Opera suits. So although I do enjoy Space Opera Romance, an occasional Shifter novel, and both Fantasy & Para genres, HER ALIEN TRADER wasn’t compelling or significantly unique enough for me to consider purchasing additional titles by this author at this time. HER ALIEN TRADER was an Instant-Mate novella with plenty of intimacy but very little plot, setting or character development (which I understand is difficult with a short novella - but still). HER ALIEN TRADER wasn’t terrible but I doubt I will remember it after a few days. Another book and several other author intros completed the reading. The book cover (which is attractive) doesn’t accurately represent the MMC At All! Lol! (He’s a blue/blue-haired feline humanoid).
READER CAUTIONS - Not recommended for readers who prefer Clean fiction or for YA readers. VIOLENCE - None. PROFANITY - None (I believe). SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. Steamy “Insta-Mate” intimacy is a heavy proportion of the reading.
I'm fully committed to my niche of crazy cat lady and I dare anyone to suggest otherwise. I will smite you down! But I think the authors of this little freebie were pushing the envelope a little too far when they decided to make their love interest(s) hunky Russian Blues.
In case you didn't get that, the hero is a cat. A humanoid cat, sure, but a cat just the same. I'm faintly disturbed to note that the idea of a blue haired guy with cats' eyes isn't unappealing. A bit of a missed opportunity for the cover art there, but hey, why bother choosing cover models who are actually representative of their characters?
Don't buy this book. Don't even try it as a freebie. There's no character development, minimal world building, a bland plot, and instalove with no chemistry or emotion. It's a clunky mess.
Having read another story by this author involving Meomee "soulmates", the brevity of this short story wasn't an issue for me. This story feels more like an expansion or fleshing out of a Universe than a compelling stand alone. But for people who like this author / this Universe, I think this is a solid, stand alone quick read short story.
Kelly feels like a secondary character in someone else's story, and this is where readers are finding out what happened to her. Her Alien Trader is charming in the way he respects her wishes, yet doesn't want to give uo, risk the two of them missing out on something wonderful just because she is afraid.
Loved this book though short it was fun and interesting and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves romantic stories. Finding a genetic match is important to the Narovian people and thus the reason why Earth woman are being tested. Accepting the Alien trader that has been matched to her is not automatic and as Kelly thinks about her match while back on Earth she has a visit from Renan who is her Alien match. Read and you will love this book as well
So straight up its been awhile since I read this so I apologize in advance for my crappy review.
Vaguely remember reading this but I do recall not wanting to continue on. It might have be the story or the writing of have to look back to clarify. (To be honest I'm lazy right now so I hope I remember to do it later)
“Kelly, beautiful Kelly,” he murmured tenderly. “My whole life I waited to find you. Now you are mine…”
This is a short review for a short book. There's nothing really wrong with this book but the plot wasn't that different from other alien books I've read. Alien finds his mate and when he doesn't heard from Kelly he goes look for her.
I do not know why but this made me feel like i was intruding on my parents! Like i was saying to myself "TMI". I do not know anyone these days that use the word "darlin" made me cringe some what, maybe its just me i dont know... The novel is nearly there but not quite, they spend most of the time in bed mating than anything else.
It was short and sweet but holds your attention from beginning to end? Loved the chemistry of the characters with steamy love scenes that don't take over the story! A must buy and keep them coming.
This was not as good as her other books in this series. This story had no action, was boring and short. The same bonus stories were added that are in all of this series.
Missing words, wrong words, extra words, grammar errors. Plot needs assistance. I will not be reading more by this author unless the novels are edited or better edited.
A very interesting intro to two people we learned more about in later book. A frigten child mentally reached out for help and her call is answered by an anger child they help each other.
I am disappointed because nearing the last chapter there are massive CLIFFHANGERS. THE other is fine and interesting, I didn’t totally enjoyed reading.
