With a stroke of the pen and a vivid imagination, these six immensely talented authors have created something special. It Started with a Whisper is mysterious, sensuous, humorous and hard to resist. By mixing old school values with modern day twists, historical romance will continue to shine it's bright light on a much loved genre of stories.

Overall this was a very good anthology and each novella was well done and none of them felt rushed.
One Moonlit Tryst, Amanda Mariel, 4 stars - Colin Brooks, Earl of Harcourt and Reginald St. John, Viscount Lovell are the best of friends, one night while out carousing, Reg is shot down by a woman and Colin says he could get any woman. They make a wager - Reg bets him a thousand pounds that he cannot win the woman of his choosing. He chooses Lady Tabitha Pemberton, he has to charm a kiss from her before the end of the season.
Lady Tabitha and her twin Lady Priscilla have decided to enjoy their first season and vow not to marry until their next. They keep all their suitors at an arms length. Colin begins to court her, but not overly - he has a plan. Reg and Pricilla form a friendship and watch the game being played between Colin and Tabitha with delight.
They grow closer and just when Tabitha believes she can give this man her heart, a shocking revelation from his past comes to light and she is heartbroken. But this is no longer a wager for Colin and he will do whatever he can to win back the woman he loves.
Good story, no steam, interesting twist, HEA
Love Me, Lord Tender, Deb Marlowe, 4.5 stars - William Grey, Lord Tensford has become infamous in Lady X's column and known as Lord Terror for the horrible way he treats his female relations. Nothing could be farther from the truth, but gossip persists. He needs to marry a heiress to save his failing estate, but no woman is interested in Lord Terror - except Lady Hope Brightly. She finds him charming and when he saves her from an unwanted suitor, she calls him Lord Tender. The name sticks and now he is having an even harder time with the gossip. Hope feels awful and sets out to make things right. Will really likes Hope and wishes her dowry was larger and he could afford to marry her, but it is not nearly enough, so he accepts her help in finding a wife.
Hope wants him for herself, but she has to know that he wants her more than he wants money. Will will have to make difficult decisions and prove himself to win the woman he has come to love.
Great story, loved Will & Hope, great ending, no steam, great secondary characters (whose stories I would definitely read), HEA

The night before the contracts are to be signed, Sybil visits Gideon and they share a passionate kiss and whispers of their hopes an dreams. They are interrupted by a late night visitor for Gideon. He kisses her goodbye and tells her he will see her tomorrow. But he never shows.
A year later, Sybil is on the verge of becoming betrothed again. She loved Gideon, but hasn't heard from him since that night, save a cryptic note saying he would see her as soon as he could. She assumed he was dead, because nothing short of death would have kept them apart. But on the very night she is to accept the Duke of Garwood, Gideon returns to her. She wants answers before she will give him her heart again, but answers are the one thing Gideon cannot give her.
Will Gideon be able to win back the only woman he has ever loved, or will his secrets destroy any hope of a HEA?
Great story, loved Sybil and Gideon, no steam, secrets, angry brothers and bounty hunters and finally a very sweet HEA.

Gabriel Sinclair, Principal Officer for Bow Street has responded to a murder outside a bawdy house in the rookeries, it seems like a simple case of robbery gone wrong and he is ready to call it done when he realizes who the victim is - Philip Forster, Earl of Wolverstone - Gabriel's one time best friend and husband of the woman Gabriel loves.
Jemma Foster, Countess of Wolverstone is sure that here brother in law David killed his brother and she needs help proving it. The only man she trusts is the last man she wants to see - Gabriel Sinclair. The man she walked away from to make her family happy and the man she loves. It has been three years since they have seen each other, but the passion is still there, stronger than ever.
Jemma and Gabriel work together to solve the mystery of who really killed Philip and why. They also slowly begin to reconnect. But when Jemma starts to get too close to the truth, will Gabriel be able to save her and have a second chance to win the woman he has always loved?
Wonderful story, lots of interesting historical facts and a really nasty villain, no steam, some violence and a HEA.
How to Land an Earl in Ten Days, Ave Stone, 5 stars - this was my favorite story in the book! Reese Delacy, Earl of Darling is consoling his heartbroken friend Capt Lucien Gates. Lucien has been thrown over by his betrothed and is drowning his sorrows. Reese doesn't believe in love and tells Lucien that he could make any woman fall in love with him, just by being charming. Lord Daniel Westham overhears him and they make a wager - Reese has ten days to make a woman fall in love with him - winner gets 200 pounds. Trouble is Lady X gets wind of the wager and no woman will give Reese the time of day. Enter the Duchess of Hythe (Lucien's grandmother) she is sponsoring Cara Beckett for the season, Cara is from Bermuda and is only in England for one reason - to garner votes for the Turks Salt Trade bill, her family's livelihood depends on Bermuda's right to free salt trade on the Turk islands. Her father was dear friends with the duchess and she has been kind to Cara, helping her meet the peers she needs to speak with, but the duchess wants more for her. Cara is single minded in her quest, she has lost so much, her father and her betrothed and the business is all she has left besides her sisters. She cannot fail them! When the duchess and her friends learn about the wager, they come up with their own wager - they will have a woman let Reese think he is winning and then bring him down a few pegs and Cara is the perfect woman for the job. The duchess convinces Cara to go along with her and Cara reluctantly agrees.
When Reese meets Cara, he pours on the charm and Cara is hard pressed not to fall for him. She needs votes and Reese offers to help her. He introduces her to voting members and at the same time courts her. When the opportunity to visit the Hadleigh fair, she agrees to go. Archibald Atherton and his sister Emma insist that she stay with them for the three days and of course Reese is going. While at the fair, Cara sees her sister's betrothed, but he avoids her, she wonders why and tells Reese, he warns her not to mention that Ballantyne is betrothed to her sister and that he can't explain in the crowd why. Cara wants answers but will wait. Reese tracks down Ballantyne and asks about Cara's sister - Charles Ballantyne is the man who stole Lucien's betrothed - Charles says that he had no formal betrothal with Cait and Reese punches him. Reese returns to the group, but is withdrawn and during dinner Cara is sure he is angry with her. When her dinner partner seems interested in her political dealings, she tries to focus on him. Chopwell suggests they meet to discuss the vote and Emma shows them to parlor and leaves them to talk. Chopwell attacks Cara and Arch and Reese barely are in time to save her.
Reese takes her to her room and then returns to deal with Chopwell - he calls him out and goes to check on Cara. This is when she learns about Charles' betrayal of her sister - it is all too much and she lashes out at Reese - she tells him she knows about the wager and he is no better than Chopwell.
Reese is hurt and angry, but he will leave her alone, he returns to London to prepare for the duel - it is the least he can do for her. She is upset when she learns he left and Lucien is demanding answers - Emma is drawn into things and even though she is secretly in love with Lucien, she can't tell him what she knows, she also thinks that Lucien is in love with Cara and is a little heart sick. Lucien returns to London for answers, but hits a dead end.
Cara returns and confides all to the duchess, who vows that everything will work out. She then calls for reinforcements. Reese refuse to call on Cara, thinking that is her wish, so the duchess has her work cut out for her. Cara feels terrible about the things she said, she admits to herself that she cares for him and may love him - but everything has gone terribly wrong.
Cara reenters society and works to get the votes she needs. She is at a ball and sees Reese, but he tries to avoid her, but when he is drawn into the group around her, he helps her further her cause and he realizes he loves her. He decides to take a chance and talks to her, but Cara still has a secret and she hopes that when she comes clean, Reese can forgive her.
This was the shining star in the anthology for me, again this is a no steam novella, but it is brimming with sexual tension, secrets, witty banter, very likable leads, great secondary character (who are begging for their own stories!) a well meaning meddling duchess and a sweet HEA.
Lady Hoyden's Secret, Dawn Brower, 3.5 stars - Lady Helena Carter has after 3 seasons accepted that she will not marry, but that is all right because she has a plan. When her brother forces his friend Oliver Hunt, Marquess of Dashville to dance with her, she solidifies her plan. Five years later, Helena's plans are just about ready to pay off. She is Lady X and has finally earned enough money to support herself until she is old enough to access her trust. She has been very successful and her favorite person to roast in her column is Oliver aka Dash.
Dash has grown up a lot since the night he danced with Helena, Lady X's column had made him realize what a jerk he was and he has changed. He wants a wife and figures if Lady X sees him make amends with Helena, the task of finding a wife will be easier. He tried to reconcile with Helena, but she is having none of it. Oliver really sees her for the first time and decides then and there, Helena will be his wife. Now all he has to do is convince her that he has changed and is the perfect man for her.
He asks her for a second chance and she shoots him down and takes off. He follows her and finds her snooping in a desk, they kiss and she tells him to leave her alone. But fate has other plans and when they end up in Scotland together and he learns her secret and seems to accept her, she is thrilled. But when they are caught in a heated embrace and told they will have to marry, it seems like Oliver will get his wish,. However, Helena is not ready to concede defeat. Will Oliver be able to win over the woman he knows he loves or will Helena let past hurts and rejection doom her to a life spent alone?
This book was ok, there is a lot of modern verbiage, some completely unbelievable scenarios (especially for a Regency), no steam and an unlikable heroine - but Oliver is this books saving grace, he is wonderful and I can't imagine why he loves Helena.
All in all this was a very good anthology, while none of the novellas are steamy (mores the pity) they are all well done and paced nicely. I would be happy to recommend this book.

This was the shining star in the anthology for me, again this is a no steam novella, but it is brimming with sexual tension, secrets, witty banter, very likable leads, great secondary character (who are begging for their own stories!) a well meaning meddling duchess and a sweet HEA.
Lady Hoyden's Secret, Dawn Brower, 3.5 stars - Lady Helena Carter has after 3 seasons accepted that she will not marry, but that is all right because she has a plan. When her brother forces his friend Oliver Hunt, Marquess of Dashville to dance with her, she solidifies her plan. Five years later, Helena's plans are just about ready to pay off. She is Lady X and has finally earned enough money to support herself until she is old enough to access her trust. She has been very successful and her favorite person to roast in her column is Oliver aka Dash.
Dash has grown up a lot since the night he danced with Helena, Lady X's column had made him realize what a jerk he was and he has changed. He wants a wife and figures if Lady X sees him make amends with Helena, the task of finding a wife will be easier. He tried to reconcile with Helena, but she is having none of it. Oliver really sees her for the first time and decides then and there, Helena will be his wife. Now all he has to do is convince her that he has changed and is the perfect man for her.
He asks her for a second chance and she shoots him down and takes off. He follows her and finds her snooping in a desk, they kiss and she tells him to leave her alone. But fate has other plans and when they end up in Scotland together and he learns her secret and seems to accept her, she is thrilled. But when they are caught in a heated embrace and told they will have to marry, it seems like Oliver will get his wish,. However, Helena is not ready to concede defeat. Will Oliver be able to win over the woman he knows he loves or will Helena let past hurts and rejection doom her to a life spent alone?
This book was ok, there is a lot of modern verbiage, some completely unbelievable scenarios (especially for a Regency), no steam and an unlikable heroine - but Oliver is this books saving grace, he is wonderful and I can't imagine why he loves Helena.
All in all this was a very good anthology, while none of the novellas are steamy (mores the pity) they are all well done and paced nicely. I would be happy to recommend this book.

What can be better than a book with 6 stories by six different talented writers? Not much I would say! Each has the gossip of Lady X attached to their story who deals out the latest on dits to the ton. The goal for each character is not to land on her list because it makes it difficult to be redeemed!
Love Me Lord Tender by Deb Marlowe is just one of those stories. William Grey, Lord Tensford had been labeled "Lord Terror" by Lady X and it made him shunned and whispered about by everyone in the Ton! Unfortunately he needed to wed an heiress to bring much needed funds into his estate to counteract the wasteful spending of his family. At a ball, he runs into Lady Hope Brightley and ends of coming to her aid by getting her out of a compromising situation by an relentless suitor. She dubs him Lord Tender due to his coming to her rescue. Now, he is teased and looked at as a fortune hunter! Hope is determined to find him a suitable wife, but does she really want anyone else to have him? This is a delightful story of how rumors and untruths can turn the course of one's life, but in the end the heart prevails. Loved this story!!

It Started With a Whisper is a really great box set with about 640 pages in it. I am also crazy about box set like these because it gives you a chance to read some different authors that you might not have read before. Some of these author though have been solid reads for me so I wanted the set for just that reason. Box set are always great for when you need a quick book to read while you are waiting for an appointment or for a bed time read.

I enjoyed the variety offered in this collection. Finding one's personal business written up in Lady X's gossip sheet was the common thread to each stand-alone story. Each of the six authors brings her own signature style and worldview into her tale, some more gritty and dark, while others offer a bit of light comedy, yet all full of the societal angst common to stories of the regency era. If these authors are new to you, this serves as a nice introduction. If you are familiar with their work, you won't want to miss out on these stories.

One Moonlit Tryst by Amanda Mariel 4 Stars Lady Tabitha Pemberton wants nothing more than to enjoy her first season without becoming attached, she’ll find a husband next year, but when Lady X writes of a forbidden tryst between Tabitha and Colin Brooks, the Earl of Harcourt, everything changes. Reginald Viscount Lovell wagers Colin to steal a kiss from Tabitha. However both rogues find themselves being far too attracted to the two Pemberton twins. A quick delightful read, that made me smile.
Love Me, Lord Tender by Deb Marlowe 5 stars William Grey, Lord Tensford has been trying to restore his family’s fortune after his mother’s mismanagement. He knew it would be difficult to find a Society bride, but after Lady X heeds baseless rumour and brands him Lord Terror, it’s next to impossible. Until he comes to the aid of Lady Hope Brightley, causing Lady X to re-dub him Lord Tender.
This is a lovely novella Will & Hope are both strong characters & their attraction is immediate but Will needs to marry an heiress & Hope wants to marry for love. Hope has only a small dowry from her father, which wouldn’t go very far to restoring Will’s estate but he can’t stop thinking of her & wanting her. Hope’s campaign changes Will’s opinion of Society ladies. The denouement is very touching & very fitting for this lovely pair.

Especially since he can’t even explain why he left not if he wants to keep her safe. Gideon & Sybil have always loved each other but even when he returns the path to heir HEA isn’t smooth. An easy to read page turning novella with good characters & a mystery to hold your interest.

Another delightful read from the author that I was loathe to put down, I loved The Duchess of Hythe’s scheming. As usual with the author’s books I’m left wanting more & hope the other two Beckett sisters have their stories

Neither one had any intention of making a match, but best laid plans don’t alway go as planed. I loved both the main characters and I always enjoy when there’s a secondary romance in a story.

I love when I read the end of a story with a huge smile on my face!
William Grey, “Lord Terror/Tender” Lord Tensford has been to source of the gossip column and scorned by the ton for decisions he had no choice but to make. On the day he makes his return to the ton he meets Lady Hope Brightley and they strike up a partnership to find him a match that will bring in the money he needs for his estate. Hope shows him that not all the ton elite are bad, that some have the heart that he’s looking for. Hope too is searching for someone to except her for herself and not only for what little she can bring to a match. Can they find what they both desire or will they except their fate?
There is so much that I loved about this story but I can’t tell all or I will ruin the story for you. Just know that you need to read this story!

Neither one had any intention of making a match, but best laid plans don’t alway go as planed. I loved both the main characters and I always enjoy when there’s a secondary romance in a story.

William Grey, “Lord Terror/Tender” Lord Tensford has been to source of the gossip column and scorned by the ton for decisions he had no choice but to make. On the day he makes his return to the ton he meets Lady Hope Brightley and they strike up a partnership to find him a match that will bring in the money he needs for his estate. Hope shows him that not all the ton elite are bad, that some have the heart that he’s looking for. Hope too is searching for someone to except her for herself and not only for what little she can bring to a match. Can they find what they both desire or will they except their fate?
There is so much that I loved about this story but I can’t tell all or I will ruin the story for you. Just know that you need to read this story!

This collection of Regency novellas all feature complications caused by the society gossip of the mysterious Lady X. She seems to see and hear all, and she reports all, yet no one knows her identity. Each of the stories stands on its own, although some of them feature characters from the authors' other books. There is very little overlap with the other stories in the set. The stories are quick reads. Some of them are fun and a little silly, while others have a darker theme and are more emotional.
One Moonlit Tryst by Amanda Mariel features Lady Tabitha and Colin, Lord Harcourt. She's determined not to marry, at least not in her first season. But after an unwise bet and a moonlight kiss, Colin and Tabitha make Lady X's column. Will they have to marry or cause further scandal? This was a fun, quick read that introduced the power of Lady X's scandal sheet.
In Love Me, Lord Tender by Deb Marlowe, Lord Tensford is looking for a rich bride, and he'd also like to find out who Lady X is. She's made the bride hunt difficult by first referring to him as Lord Terror and then changing her mind and calling him Lord Tender. Neither nickname has helped him find a bride. Lady Hope is a lovely, sensible lady who offers to help Tensford find a bride. She thinks she knows just the lady for him, if he's willing to look past what society expects in a perfect match. I liked that we got to see behind the scenes to what real ladies of quality were doing to help the less fortunate.
The Lady Loves a Scandal by Christina McKnight has Lady Sybil abandoned by her fiancé the morning before the marriage contracts are to be signed. Where has Gideon, Viscount Galway, gone? And why does he still offer no explanation when he returns a year later? Can she really trust him not to leave again? This was a little silly and unrealistic, but it was an entertaining read.

This story had kind of a creepy Gothic feel, with a possibly haunted house and visits to London's seediest areas to track down evidence against the murderer. It was completely unrealistic that a lady would be allowed to go along on such investigations, but it really showed the contrast of the upper and lower classes through Jemma's experiences.
How to Land an Earl in Ten Days by Ava Stone featured another unwise bet. Reese Delacy, Lord Darling, unexpectedly got roped in to betting that he could win a proper lady's heart in ten days. Since Lady X revealed the bet in her scandal sheet, no proper ladies would even associate with him. Enter Cara Beckett, newly arrived from Bermuda to try to influence any peer she can find to vote for Bermuda's claims to the Turks Islands salt pans. Maybe she hasn't heard about the bet, and Lord Darling is willing to introduce her to all the right people while he gets to know her better. It was a lot of fun to see Cara and Reese dance around each other, each with their own objectives. This story was also very emotional because Cara had been through so much in her life, and then her treatment by so-called society was shocking and heart wrenching. This was my favorite story of the bunch.

I always enjoy reading a collection of authors as I always discover someone new to follow. ‘It Started with a Whisper’ was no different but it had a twist. The stories all centred around Lady X’s gossip sheet and the main characters doing all in their power to stay clear of the list.
Amanda Mariel’s ‘One Moonlit Tryst’ follows Lady Tabitha Pemberton who is desperate to avoid marriage in her first season. However, she can’t avoid Colin Brooks and so her wish is so thwarted as Lady X appears to see all. Despite Lady Tabitha’s objects, she finds herself drawn to Colin.
‘Love Me, Lord Tender’ by Deb Marlowe epitomises the impact of the ton on one individual. William Grey, Lord Tensford had been dubbed "Lord Terror" by Lady X simply from his actions in trying to curb his family’s spending habits. Fortunately, Lady Hope Brightley (very appropriately named) sees only the goodness in him, and calls him ‘Lord Tender’. This only finds Will facing a different set of problems.
Christina McKnight’s ‘The Lady Loves a Scandal’ unites Gideon Lyndon, Viscount Galway with Sybil Anson, who he was about to become betrothed to but disappeared into the night, only to return over a year later. I really enjoyed this story as both characters shared such a depth of feeling for each other; however, events related to Gideon’s absence prevent the romance from progressing. The intrigue of the story kept me reading at a rapid pace!

Lady Jemma Forster, Countess of Wolverston believes she knows her husband’s murderer and seeks the assistance of Gabriel Sinclair, a bow street runner. However, Jemma and Gabriel must overcome their attraction which began only days before her marriage, if they are to bring her husband’s murderer to justice.
‘How to Land an Earl in Ten Days or Less’ by Ava Stone is a delightful story with Reese Delacy, the Earl of Darling putting forth the wager that he can any girl fall in love with him in 10 days. However, Lady X also hears the wager and decides to print this only to have everyone avoid him, except Miss Cara Beckett. Cara is trying to help her family and friends in the Caribbean and uses the wager to garner Reese’s assistance. What follows is an interesting series of events? Just who is fooling who?

Six novellas centered around the scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady X. Short, fun, and romantic reads. My thoughts on the individual stories:
One Moonlit Tryst - Good, but I didn't like the twist at the end. I think if the couple were going to struggle it would have been around the bet that started our hero's pursuit, but instead it was a situation out of the blue and almost an afterthought of a resolution.
Love Me, Lord Tender - Loved the premise of this story and the struggle of what gossip and innuendo can do to a person. Also enjoyed watching Hope and Tensford fall in love and choosing each other even though he needed an heiress with lots of money.
The Lady Loves a Scandal - Gideon runs off to help save a friend, but leaves his love behind. He has to work hard to win her heart back when he returns.
The Scandalous Widow - Loved Gabriel, the Bow Street detective, and his nickname, The Rogue Runner. Jemma is a bereaved widow, but she and her husband were friends and not madly in love. I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery element of this story and wished this had been a full length novel.
How to Land An Earl in Ten Days - I share Cara's fear of heights and the chemistry between her and Darling was fun. Lots of intrigue and angst and a good story.
A Lady Hoyden's Secret - The mystery of Lady X is revealed. Short, but the glimpse into Helena's life is well written. I wish we had learned a little more of why her brother had such issues with Oliver, but the novella sort of left that behind to finish off the romance.

Overall, it was a good book.
I did not enjoy the first story (maybe 2, 2.5*) and that was a bit of a problem because it took me sometime to get really involved with the book. The next two stories were quite good (4*) and I got through them very easily and enjoyed them much more than the first story. The 4th story was a bit different and I liked but thought at the same time that is rapped up to quickly - I know it's a novella, but maybe instead of in the beginning doing more description, a bit more of the story could have been developed? I really liked how strong Jemma was, she really made an impression on me (3.5,4*). I really liked the concept of How to Land an Earl in Ten Days or Less - I love the film "how to lose a guy in 10 days"! - so it was fun to see Ava's take on it. I really enjoyed it, it was fun and at the same sweet and romantic. The last story was one of my favourites as well , although I would have changed just one thing: instead of having Oliver chase Helena, I would have just made them share the carriage ride to Scotland and made them fall in love during the trip, and maybe it would have been more believable for me that Oliver had fallen in love in Helena, instead of just one day waking up and thinking "wow the girl I ignored for years is actually a clever, intelligent, beautiful woman". Apart from that, I really liked the story, Helena was one of my favourite heroines and Oliver (much like Daring!) was very dashing and alluring.
In the end, I liked this anthology, but I think I'm finally understanding that novellas aren't my favourite kind of book - I like more fully developed stories. Still, it was a good book and I would recommend it to any historical romance fan.

Unique collection
A great collection of different and interesting stories. I enjoyed all the reads and the addition of Lady X tied it all together. Awesome job ladies.
Amanda Mariell brings us Tabatha and Colin. Tabatha has to find the strength to make a decision to forget his past.
A different twist on making sure your wanted for the right thing. Tensford needs to marry for money and Hope wants to marry for love. She needs to make sure the man who chooses her does it for love by Deb Marlowe.
Interesting turn to our usual romances. A great story by Christina McKnight brings us an unusual take on the usual love story. Deaply in love and ready to be betrothed, Gideon leaves Sybil with no explanation.
A favorite in the collection, Erica Monroe brings us to a marriage bound by nothing more than friendship. True love given up for propriety. A mystery and coming home.

One Moonlit Tryst by Amanda Mariel - 3 stars
I just couldn't get into this one. Colin just didn't seem genuine to me. This is my first by Mariel. I'll give her another try and see if I like her full length stories any better.
Love Me Lord Tender by Deb Marlowe - 4 stars
I really enjoyed William and Hope's story. An unlikely duo who were perfect for each other!
The Lady Loves a Scandal by Christina McKnight - 3 stars
This one was just an ok read for me. I don't know that I could have forgiven someone leaving me for over a year with no explanation.

I loved Helena and Oliver's story. Secretly loving your brother's best friend and just hoping for him to see you as more than that. Always lots of angst. This is my first by Brower and it definitely won't be my last.
I just couldn't get into this one. Colin just didn't seem genuine to me. This is my first by Mariel. I'll give her another try and see if I like her full length stories any better.

This one was just an ok read for me. I don't know that I could have forgiven someone leaving me for over a year with no explanation.

Adorable traditional Regency romance!
This boxed set is a wonderful collection of 6 never before published novellas by some great authors. The ebook has the equivalent of 638 pages, so each book is about 100 pages each. All of the books sound fun, and I plan to read them all.
So far, I have only read Deb Marlowe’s novella, “Love Me, Lord Tender”. I found it to be an utterly charming traditional-style Regency romance. There was some kissing but no sex. The story had some interesting features, such as a nice young nobleman who can stick to a budget, a paleontology hobby, and problems caused by tabloid gossip. I really loved the earnest hero and intrepid heroine. They were such good people, and I loved their interactions. Early on, Lord Tensford saves fair Lady Hope from an assault by a villainous creep. I also enjoyed how this novella is distantly related to the Half Moon House series, which is one of my favorites.
I highly recommend this boxed set to anyone who likes fun, light Regency romances.

If I could rate the different stories in this book separately then there would be four stars down to two stars instead of just one rating across the board. The author that stood out for me was Ava Stone and I would definitely give her a 4 star rating for her story. Scandalous Widow I am being generous by giving it 2 stars. The others ranked around 2.5 to 3 for me. I did not care for the common thread of a vicious gossip Lady X in all the stories and it didn't make sense to me that it was revealed in last story who the mysterious Lady X is that writes the articles for the gossip sheet. In one story early on in the book the characters talk about the Lady X having been around for a very long time writing her gossip sheet but when the big reveal comes in the last story it does not match up that Lady X had been writing for very long at all. I think the authors could have done a better job of tying Lady X together and making sure it all followed the sequence and I personally do not care for the fact that she decided to continue to gossip even after she found her own happily every after. I will say that I do like boxed sets because it allows me a chance to try new authors. I received the ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The gossip columnist Lady X causes scandal and prospective ruination to six plucky heroines but her pronouncements certainly move the stories along. Quite often in a boxset there are a number of duds but these were all strong stories and a pleasure to read (though I was jarred by two of the authors speaking of houses with stoops!)

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley to read in exchange for a fair review. It Started With A Whisper is a collection of 6 regency novellas by Deb Marlowe, Amanda Mariel, Christina McKnight, Erica Munroe, Ava Stone, And Dawn Brower. The individual stories are linked by the gossip column Whispers from Lady X. I enjoyed reading the novellas each with a different trope. A wager about a kiss, a secret heiress, a missing groom, a murder mystery with the one that got away, a wager about falling in love, and the unveiling of Lady X. My only problem with this book is that Lady X’s gossip whispers tend to be quite cruel and cause distress for the characters, so when she turns out to be the heroine of the last novella I was annoyed with her and didn’t like her at all. I do recommend this book. #ItStartedWithAWhisper #NetGalley

I have only read How to Land an Earl in 10 days or Less: Reese knows that he can get any woman to fall in love with him and so he makes a wager. It is only to help his friend who is still hurting after being jilted. He will prove to his friend that he could find someone else quickly. The problem is, the gossips have heard about the wager and spread the word. Now, none of the young ladies will talk to him. Except for Cara. Cara has to get votes to help her family's business in the Bahamas, and she is willing to talk to Reese if it will help her with more votes. Neither of them counted on falling in love.

This boxed set of six Regency historical romances have a connection to the whispers of gossip published by the mysterious "Lady X" in a scandal sheet. No one in the ton seems to be exempt from her writings and she seems to be accurate in her predictions.
I enjoyed reading stories written by familiar authors but there were also a few that were new to me and I liked that these were "clean" romances without a lot of sex scenes. I anticipated reading all of the stories (and did) and learned the identity of Lady X. She may even find her very own happily ever after or continue writing her whisperings.

This book is comprised of 6 different stories, by 6 different authors. The main theme running through all of the stories is the scandal sheet written by Lady X (or Madame Whisper), and how whispers of scandal in the sheet affect 6 different couples - who were not necessarily couples before Lady X talked about them in her sheet. Who is Lady X, and how did she obtain this information? I enjoyed all of the stories - each one had its own charm. Enjoyed the stories from some of my favorite authors, as well as the authors new to me.

It's more a 3 1/2 stars read. Some of the stories were just ok, a couple I wasn't impressed with at all. The saving grace was How to Land an Earl in 10 Days or Less by Ava Stone. I love when someone's trying to play others and the table is turned. I was also glad that at the end, we learn who Lady X turns out to be!

A lovely collection
I really enjoyed each story and the collection over all. A wonderful group of authors. Besides a few kisses, the stories were clean romance. There were a few errors throughout, but nothing too distracting.

Absolutely amazing!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this collection. Every novel ignited a lot of mystery and shock as well as romance. If you have yet to discover any historical romance or enjoy this genre then I definitely recommend this collection.

This is a really great box set I liked each book and while some were better for me than the other all were really well written good reads. You get six good stories for six different authors they all had decent storylines and great characters a good box set and well worth reading

Love Me, Lord Tender is the novella that led me to this diverting collection of six historical romance novellas. I not only thoroughly enjoyed Love Me, Lord Tender as much as I expected to, but I also found this set of stories as a whole to be entertaining.
Set in the Regency period, each story somehow involves Lady X's gossip sheet. Each novella was penned by a different author, and each has a distinct style. I believe that there is something that will appeal most particularly to each reader's tastes, and that although the stories are only loosely tied together they make a satisfying collection. I do recommend reading them in order as Lady X's identity is eventually revealed.

Ava Stone’s How to Land an Earl in Ten Days starts with a bet that Lord Darling can get a woman to fall for him in ten days or less. What can you expect from someone who is called DARLING. Ava Stone provides a fun story with some politics and danger thrown in. Little does Lord Darling realize that instead of a bet, he won true love.
