Hooked on a witch is the fourth novel in the Keepers of the Veil series. In this book, we have Shannon and Merck. Shannon is a pleiad and Merck a witch hunter. Together they try to find Poseidon's Trident while both of them try to stay alive. This must be the first time both, the hero and the heroine are trying to survive and it has nothing to do with a world destroying catastrophe or something. I am a fan of the series and I enjoyed all the books so far. I might have gotten a little lost while I was reading the book, but the book worked its magic and I was able to enjoy the story a lot. I liked how the author ended the situation where Merck's days were limited on this earth, so he could have his happily ever after. I wonder who is going to be the hero and the heroine of the next book. The only thing I know for sure is that I am going to like it and have a good time reading it. This book is a stand alone, so don't worry if you have read the previous books. You can dive right in this one.

With gods, witches, druids and all sorts of beasties and crazy creatures, The Keeper of the Veil series has my name written all over it or at least you would think so. I truly enjoyed the first two, Protecting His Witch and His Witch To Keep, but the third one, Playing the Witches Game didn’t work for me at all. Then again it centered around a reality TV dating show and I’m not a big fan (unless it’s reading Smart Bitches Trashy Books weekly recap of The Bachelor, which I’m all for because it’s absolutely hilarious and involves copious amounts of rum and snark). Wanting to give the series another chance, I nabbed Hooked On A Witch. I did like it more than the third one, but again it didn’t wow me like the first two.

I think I would have been all over this if there hadn’t been so damn many communication issues. These two were constantly keeping secrets from each other, important ones with life or death consequences. This is one of thing guaranteed to turn me off. How can I believe in a connection if the two MC’s don’t trust each other enough to talk? I know, I know, there are all sorts of excuses as to why, like keeping the other one from being hurt, saving the world blah, blah, blah, but let’s face it, it boils down to a lack of trust and not believing the love of your life is capable of making decisions for themselves and that’s just wrong.

Okay, coming off my soapbox, let’s talk about what worked for me and why I’m giving this a decent rating. One word…. gods. Yep, even before I got hooked on Hercules and Xena when I was younger, I’ve loved a good story about mere mortals dealing with a bunch of mythological gods playing games and screwing with their lives. Here we’ve got Poseidon and Athena and a bunch of demigods popping up all over the place. Because of this, I could somewhat ignore the asinine lack of communication and even the overlooking of obvious clues as to where exactly the damn trident was.

Lots of things happened here that will have some far-reaching consequences on the Pleiades witches. I’m confused as to what the repercussions over what happened to the Pleiades goddesses will be. I’m also interested in what Merck’s new job description will mean for everyone. This means I’ll be giving this series another shot when the next one comes out.

Rating: 3 Failure To Communicate Stars

Fun, exciting paranormal romantic suspense spiced with Greek mythology!

“Pray to whatever you believe in that they don’t send the snakes.”

Hooked on a Witch by Zoe Forward is the fourth novel in her Keepers of the Veil series. This series revolves around the seven Pleiades witches, their destined mates who protect them and the enemies who are out to kill them. Each of the books works well as a standalone if that is your preference though there are interconnected characters and a common theme. I have enjoyed this series in order. This installment is the story of witch-hunter Jason Merck, son of Poseidon, and Pleiades witch Shannon Randolph.

As the story opens, Shannon is in trouble. She has one week to turnover Poseidon’s Trident, a relic that she does not possess, to a goddess. She has been framed for the theft and, to make things worse, she’s being targeted by an array of the goddess’ evil minions so she is wasting precious time needed to track the artifact trying to stay alive. At her wits end, she enlists the help of magically-talented Jason Merck, a childhood friend, who she hasn’t seen in ten years. Unfortunately, he’s also a witch-hunter which can’t bode well for Shannon.

As the Enforcer, Jason’s job is to fight evil. He knows that Shannon isn’t evil, but that’s a far cry from trusting her. Jason has a huge problem of own – namely his own impending doom and the clock is ticking. Not to mention that Shannon’s family and friends hate and distrust him.

I really liked both Jason and Shannon. The chemistry between them was off-the charts and I couldn’t get enough of their insinuatingly sexy banter. Their steamy scenes were scorchers!

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Hooked on a Witch:

“I’d like to see you dance around a caldron naked.”
---
“So, you’re the Santa Claus of the magic world with a naughty and nice list?”
---
“I promise if you come to my car I won’t cuff you unless…” his voice dropped to a sensuous tone, “… that’s what you want.”

This was a really good addition to the series. I was on the edge-of-my seat as the deadlines for both Jason and Shannon drew near. I thought the wrap-up was perfect. If you enjoy fun, exciting paranormal romantic suspense spiced with Greek mythology and gods and goddesses who love to mess with lives and stir up trouble, I’d encourage you to check out Hooked on a Witch. I can’t wait to see which Pleiades witch will be the focus of the next book!

HOOKED ON A WITCH is a captivating story filled with passion, action, and danger. It has a really well thought out plot and a great mythology that was basically an extension of Greek mythology mixed in with witches! I love the juicy and messy relationships of the Greek gods and goddesses. Having those weird relationship issues expanded into the Pleiades witches lives gives an entertaining modern twist to the mythology and Jason's adult Percy Jackson-esque life was and added treat to the already fascinating world set up in this series. They central quest/mystery was kind of confusing to get a good grasp on and I felt like I missed some important details that had significance to the final showdown. But the results of that showdown and how it turned out for the main characters was good enough for me to not be completely turned off due to my confusion.

The chemistry between Shannon and Jason was electric. At times I was actually more invested in their relationship and figuring out how it could work out for them instead of the whole missing relic and impending deaths of both of them due to that relic. Aside from their wonderful chemistry, both Shannon and Jason are pretty darn good at their jobs and with their supernatural powers. I loved seeing them work together to unravel the central mystery and get their happily ever after.

HOOKED ON A WITCH started strong with a wonderfully complex mythology and an intense love story at its core. I am very interested in seeing who the next Pleiades witch will be in the next book.

Hooked on a Witch by Zoe Forward is the 4th book in her Keepers of the Veil series. . This series revolves around the seven Plelades witches, their destined mates who protect them and the enemies out to kill them. Hooked on a Witch reads very well as a standalone, though I suggest you read the earlier books to it is get to know the previous characters.

We met our heroine, Shannon, in the last book. She is one of those seven Plelades Witches, and Shannon finds herself in trouble. A goddess wants a Poseidon’s Trident, which she claims Shannon has stolen, and will have her minions kill for it. But Shannon has no idea where it is, and is determined to find it to help save her and the other witches.

Enter Jason Merck, a witch hunter, whose job is fight evil. Jason knows that Shannon isn’t evil, but he wants to know why she is in town, and what does she know about the missing relic. Shannon needs help, and despite not trusting Jason, she knows he is the only one who can help her. Both Jason and Shannon are attracted to each other, and their family or friends are not happy with them working together. In time their slow build romance will heat up and they made a scorching couple. But what is their future, when the gods and goddess are making their life a dangerous game.

What follows is an exciting adventure, where Shannon and Merck not only face against a goddess, but an evil witch who will stop at nothing to get Poseidon Trident; which she expects to gain all the powers the Trident has. Merck must also deal with Shannon’s father who thinks he is evil and dangerous to Shannon, and to his own father, Poseidon. Merck will slowly gain the trust of Shannon’s father and team when he saves them from sure death, but all could be lost when he comes up against Anais, the evil witch who stole the souls of 7 other Plelades witches. Will Shannon & Merck survive? Will Merck ever meet his real father?

You will need to read this book to find out. To tell too much more would be spoilers, but this is a very exciting adventure that will hold you on the edge of your seat. Zoe Forward once again does a great job continuing the flow of this series of the witches. This is a fun exciting series, which I wholly recommend.

Opposites attract right? Well that's certainly the case for witch Shannon and witch hunter Merck. But they must work together towards a common goal, even if they are natural enemies.

Shannon has taken over the witches after her mother's untimely death. She's worried about keeping things safe from the powers that want to destroy or steal them.

Merck is a witch hunter who is tormented by what he does. He's a hunter with a conscience.

Even though this is book 4, you can read it without having read the others in the series. A great paranormal for fans of that.

First off, I've been following this series since book one and cannot believe I missed book three! This is a series that definitely needs to be read in order to be able to fully enjoy it, but, having read the first two and only missing the one directly prior to this one I was still able to follow along. Sort of like your favorite soap opera, even if you miss a week of episodes, after a few minutes in you still get the gist of what's going on, but you know you missed something really good that was critical to the plot at large. All in all it was still a great read.

Shannon has lost not only both of her brothers, but her mother as well within the span of a year, leaving just herself and father behind. If that isn't enough, the mantle of being the leader of the Pleiades witches is now hers to bare. Add onto that someone is out assassinating the very Goddesses they descended from, her father, the leader of the Druids bound and sworn to protect her and the other Pleiades, wants to keep her under lock and key where he knows she's safe and sound, and the fact that they all are under the threat of death until they find Poseidon's Trident. Not much pressure there right? Her mother's final words brings her back to her old home to find help. And who better to help her than someone with ties to the very water God himself?

Merck is the Enforcer, soul bound to be the policeman of all things magic. Anyone using black magic must answer to him, and most do not live to tell about it. He knows his judgement day is coming soon, so a relationship is just plain out of the question. Until a certain blonde literally stumbles back into his life. But she brings with her more complications than he could have imagined. She's on a mission to find the Trident that she and her people have been accused of stealing. And it just so happens he recently learned that his ties to Poseidon are a lot closer than he ever knew. Coincidence? Whenever the Gods are involved, there isn't really such a thing is there?

Fans of this series will enjoy going on this roller coaster ride with Shannon and Merck as they give in to the fact that destiny is real, and sometimes it doesn't completely suck. The only thing keeping this from being a five star is everything wasn't wrapped as tight as I would have liked, which I know all too well is not an easy thing to do, and one of those things could have just been something that I missed; like why did Shannon seem to seem to have such a fear of drowning? But the biggest was Merck's parents; the big reveal of who they were didn't end up with a big reunion.

This is a great series for lovers of all things magic and deity related. While it can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading the series as a whole, in order. Each book ties into the next, so don't cheat yourself, or the author, by just grabbing a random one out of order.

Jason Merck is an Enforcer, a supernatural witch hunter who strikes down anyone practicing black or death magic. He dreads his judgement day before the Greek gods. Merck resents them for their meddling in his life. He rescues Shannon Randolph, a girl from his past, from a kidnapping plot. Merck discovers his destiny is somehow intertwined with Shannon’s, so he agrees to help her search for Poseidon’s trident. Can Merck and Shannon find the trident before their time runs out? Will he be able to protect her from supernatural threats?

Shannon Randolph use to work as a contract camerawoman until her mother’s untimely death. She now assumes the head position of the six Pleiades witches, human female descendants of the seven Pleiades Greek goddesses. Shannon must find Poseidon’s trident before the angry Greek water god delivers on his promise. When Jason Merck comes to her rescue, she decides to enlist his help on the search. Will Shannon find the trident in time to save her fellow witch sisters?

Jason Merck reminds me of a grown-up, tattooed, bad-boy version of the movie-character Percy Jackson. The suffocating darkness of his thankless duty wears on his soul, yet he resolutely continues to police the magical denizens by himself. I understand Merck’s reasons for not settling down, preferring to keep all innocent bystanders from becoming potential targets against him. But what I adore the most about Merck is despite his numbered days, he still aided Shannon in her desperate search for Poseidon’s trident.

Shannon has this infectious manner about her I enjoy. She is equal parts feisty and determined. I admire Shannon’s ability to ask her friends for help, especially on her weak points in magic instead of trying to hazard it out. Shannon may not have wanted her mother’s position; however, that does not stop her from doing the best with what is at her disposal. I love her willingness to walk the gauntlet for the people who look to her for leadership. But what I like the most about Shannon is her refusal to allow overprotective alphas to deter her from the mission set before her.

HOOKED ON A WITCH is book four in Zoe Forward’s paranormal series, KEEPERS OF THE VALE. Zoe Forward is a new-to-me author, so sadly I have not read the three previous books, something I may have to rectify soon. Although I expected the story to be more of an “enemies-to-lovers” trope than a “second-chance” theme, it did not stop me from enjoying the book.

HOOKED ON A WITCH is an entertaining and spellbinding tale of two destined soul-mates overcoming incredible supernatural odds. I love how I learned about some new and interesting mythological creatures from this story. I cannot wait to see what’s next in future installments.

Hooked on a Witch is a spectacular addition to the Keepers of the Veil series, it has everything one needs to be able to hop dimensions and fight evil.
The romance between Shannon and Merck is a see saw of emotional upheaval that is complicated by family, friends secrets and most of all bad guys coming out of the woodwork. Both are strong characters that readers can not only relate to but really become involved in the drama of their lives. Merck has a sexy mysterious, secret wielding vibe going on that shows readers how hot he is but also how vulnerable making a definite book boyfriend.
Thrills and chills keep readers on the edge of their seat as we get to the suspense and boy is there a lot of that going on because the romance itself is full of it, especially with all of its ups and downs and the story has villains everywhere, a few secrets, a lot of magical action, and quite a few gods, goddesses and other powerful beings involved which also means that the story is full of action and surprising twists.
Secondary characters play strong supportive roles that help make this story one to remember but if you haven’t read the first books in the series them I strongly recommend that you do because this one picks up where Playing the Witch’s Game lets off and although the story gives readers enough information to keep up if you haven’t read the previous books, I feel that readers just wouldn’t get the whole effect and full understanding of just what is happening in this world full of Greek mythology.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hooked on a Witch and I can’t wait to read the next Pleiades witches book and find out where Zoe Forward takes the series next.

Review: There is something fishy going on in South Carolina! Merck and Shannon have known each other since their school days and to say there was a bit of crush on each other may be an understatement. Alas though like ships in the night they have passed each other thinking the other wasn't interested. After her mother's death, Shannon returns home searching for answers. Her mother was a descendant of witch goddesses with cool powers including being able to shift between dimensions. The bad news is this group of witches are being killed. Meanwhile, Merck is related in some way to the God Poseidon and has a knack for life in the ocean (including being able to heal in the ocean). Oh and he's a hunter of bad witches.
Shannon and Merck are very cute together. While the does he/she like me doesn't last long, as the attraction is instant, the layers behind why they haven't been together all this time is nicely developed. I loved the weaving of the Greek Gods and Goddess into the story. It is pretty action packed with a dash of mystery as to what has happened to Poseidon's Trident (and everyone thinking Shannon has taken it). Despite the tragic loss of Shannon's mother (and other family members), the story is light and fun. The dialogue moves quick as does the story. There is a little hot and heavy action but it isn't a predominant aspect of the book. A fun read!

I could not put this book down. It captured my attention from the very beginning. I was excited to see where the story took me and if there would be a HEA at the end. I don't want to post spoilers but there are a lot of key players and subplots to unfold. It genuinely kept me interested throughout the story. I didn't feel like the moments taken to explain took away or slowed down the flow of the second chance romance.
Jason and Shannon take a chance that the second time around might be the HEA they want or it might end them all. Shannon doesn't know what to make of the powers she's coming in to or of what the future will hold. She just knows that she cannot give up without a fight or a battle. I admire her strength to step up and willingness to survive. Merck is coming to understand the and accept his fate. Little does he know that fate will put him on a path and course he could never expect.
This second chance romance was different than others that I have read. I enjoyed their story as it unfolded. If you love witches, warlocks, Gods, Goddesses, then I highly recommend this story to you.

4 Stars!

An interesting twist on the witch vs. witch hunter, forbidden romance book!

This is my first book by Zoe Forward and I am hooked. (See what I did there?!)

Shannon is a witch, but not just any old witch, a witch who is a descendant of the Pleiades, and now the most important of those descendants. She is in danger and it doesn't help that she hasn't fully harnessed her powers. Then, there's the sexy, witch hunter, Merck, who just happens to be her high school crush. Bad things follow these two, but they may be each other's only hope.

I loved the mythology aspect of this book. There are gods, demi gods, and all manner of big bads. The attraction between Shannon and Merck sizzles. There's danger, heat and even some comedic relief. Shannon is sassy. Merck is alpha. The secondary characters are the perfect addition. My only regret was that I haven't read the previous books and while it is not necessary, it would have been helpful to have a better idea of how they play into everything. While I loved the story, I felt it was a little choppy in its flow, but otherwise, I enjoyed it.

I love a good paranormal and this was a nice addition to my collection of books!

Shannon is a Pleiad witch and Jason is a witch hunter but in evil witches or dark magic practitioners. Jason’s father is Poseidon. Shannon has been accused of stealing Poseidon's Trident. Shannon is one of seven pleiad witches and finds herself in trouble as a Goddess wants the Trident but has accused Shannon of taking it and now minions were after her. But Shannon didn’t take the trident and had no idea where it is. Shannon is determined to find someone to help save herself and the other witches. Shannon isn’t evil so Jason won’t hurt her but he does want to know why she is in town. Shannon and Jason had been together in school and had liked each other a lot but neither knew how the other felt. Shannon doesn’t really trust Jason. Their family and friends are not happy they are working together. Jason also has to deal with Shannon’s father who thinks Jason is evil and dangerous to Shannon. Shannon had been kidnapped before and Jason had rescued her. But they are working together to try to find the trident. Shannon and Jason are not only against the goddess but an evil witch named Anais who wants the trident. Shannon used to work as a contract camerawoman until her mom suddenly died then SHannon got the position of head of the other Pleiades witches which Shannon hadn’t wanted but is doing the best she can. Who were female descendants of the Pleiades Greek Goddess.
I liked this book a lot. I loved the adventure and mystery. I liked how Jason and Shannon had known each other before and then this time their relationship heats up and becomes hot. I liked how Shannon asked her friends on her weak points in magic instead of just trying to figure them out herself and make some bad mistakes she could have avoided with some help. I also loved how Shannon did what she had to do for the people who look to her for guidance and leadership. I loved how Shannon and James worked on overcoming all the obstacles they have before them to overcome to be together. I loved how the author gave us some new new mythological creatures. I didn’t understand why Shannon’s father was so distrustful of Jason, Shannon is good so she won’t have a problem with Jason. I was a little confused about Jason’s backstory and well as the Gods and Demigods. I found this to be a fun read. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.

Hooked on a Witch, Zoe Forward

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Sci-fi and fantasy, Romance

I loved book one in this series, somehow missed books two and three, but saw this and wanted to read it, expecting I'd love it as much as book one.
I didn't :-( Its still a good story but for me didn't feel genuine, the characters were a bit meh.
Maybe if I'd read the missing middle two? Who knows?

I was a bit confused at times over the Pleiades witches, who was dead, who was living which i think reading the missing books would have clarified. I seemed to be reading that Shannon was last in the line, but then reading others existed...not sure how that worked, clearly there's more to them than i understand. My bad for missing those two middle ones.

Anyway Shannon and Merck, instant lust, but they have a tiny shared history. I don't really get why her dad is so against him nor why she is so, well, obedient. I know she loves him, I know he's grieving the lose of his wife, her mum, but she seems to have always done what daddy says and yet she's not some teen, she's a grown woman with skills of her own. that just irritated me.

The drama too is a bit wham, bam, bad guys killed, good guys injured and close to death but hey- a bit of magic sorts that out just in time.
I can take that once, maybe twice in a story but it seems to crop up every time here and I need a bit more of a solution than simply magic, whether potions or spells or healing waters etc.

Merck, yep he's a witch hunter but...only the bad guys, not all witches. I found his history and the various Gods and Demi-Gods a bit confusing too.
I did read to the end but TBH much of the story just passed me by, I either didn't like the way solutions were found, or didn't really understand the connections. It just felt too muddled for me. Maybe if I read books 2 and 3 at some point I'll come back to this one, but I doubt it because it contains too many insta-fix solutions and they're one of my pet peeves.

Stars: hard to rate, it's loved by others but for me it just didn't work so I'm going two. As ever though this is just my view, you may love it.

Hooked on a Witch is about a Pleiades witch that has been given a death sentence. Shannon is accused of stealing something that belongs to a powerful god. She has no idea why they think she has it but she must find it before the time runs out or all the Pleiades witches will be marked for death. Merck is a witch hunter that happens to have a thing for the this Pleiades witch. He knows that she should let Shannon go but first he must help her find this relic and save her.

Both these characters have a lot of charm and their relationship has it ups and down like normal relationships do. It’s just that they are trying to save each from mystical creatures and gods. Merck has an issue that he has not shared with Shannon that could change their relationship. I like that he really cares for her and wants her to survive.

I liked this story but I found myself putting the book down. I gave this story 3 1/2 hearts but honestly I think I will read this story again because it has all the elements that I love in a story. It has action, humour, romance, heartbreak and a mystery.

I went into this book not realizing it was #4 in a series but that was ok it completely stands on its own. The only thing with reading the others may have helped me personally a little. I thought I was going to read a Witch story, with Witchcraft and a Witch Hunter who was after her. What I read was definitely more of a mythological story. I got over my disappointment and really enjoyed the story.
The Gods & Godesses storyline moved at a fast pace and the creative storyline kept me captivated. There was a love story but it was the mystery and the action that kept me reading. The introduction of creatures and magical elements made it a story that I didn't want to end.
This is the first I have read by this author and I will definitely be checking out her books.

Shannon Randolph has several targets on her back. Someone is killing Pleiades descendants and to top it all Poseidon has issued an ultimatum; return his trident or else. Even worse, she has no idea where it is since she did not steal it. So she returns to her home town to search for help as indicated by her dying mother. And that means turning to Jason Merck, designation: Witch Hunter.

He's the man who held her heart all those years ago but their abrupt departure from Savannah prevented anything from developing. But now that Shannon has ascended to head Pleiades witch, and she has more power, she can sense that he is something more than just a simple witch hunter. Even more, he could be the man who will either end her life or then save her from an early demise.

I love supernatural, but for some reason have not read or been interested in books with witches. I think that is all about to change. Hooked on a Witch literally had me hooked. I loved the whole premise of good witches, bad witches and a super sexy witch hunter fighting off evil while trying to keep the good witch safe. An action adventure with lead characters that have so much chemistry I'm surprised they didn't go up in flames. I couldn't fault any part of the book, it was everything I wanted from a supernatural romantic adventure and more. This is the fourth book in the series but can be read as a standalone. I was provided with an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Although this book is part of a series it can be read as a stand alone ,most of the blanks are filled in as you go along , without spoiling the story in any way . Shannon is a witch & unfortunately for her Merck , her blast from the past , is a witch hunter after saving her from being kidnapped their story & lives become mixed together . I love this mix of Greek mythology & interfering gods set in modern world (think Percy Jackson ) . Once started i had to keep reading til the end , i enjoyed it so much i'm going to read the other three books & think i can do that without what i know from this book spoiling the storyline .

Paranormal books aren't normally my go to genre but I have reviewed a few recently and it is starting to grow on me, that hardest thing is getting your head around all the different gods, straights, witches and warlocks. but if I'd read the previous 3 books that might have been easier to get to grips with.

The story is a typical love story of forbidden love between 2 childhood neighbours, but with the added dimension of witches.

The characters were great, even the dolphin ones! I will definitely be open to reading about witches again!

Merck is not a bashful man “uhh... I’m not wearing anything under there.” It was one thing to borrow Brian Randolph’s clothes in another dimension, but quite another to borrow underwear. He also never gave much of a darn for underclothes." Merck is possessive man doesn't like to share anything about his woman, “no. I like it on you out here. No one else sees you naked. Only me.” I liked this book, I loved Merck and Shannon they were quite the entertaining couple.

Action packed romance

Gods, demigods, druids, witches and warlocks abound with a little bit of Romeo and Juliet. Find out what’s wrong with Shannon and why she was attacked in the previous book. Fun adventure with lots of romance.

Well this went downhill half way through the book for me.

I loved the beginning and thought this is going to be good exactly what I need and compared to the first book it looks good. But half way through the book I just wasn’t feeling it.

I liked the main characters and the world building is always solid with the author but at some point it just kept on dragging on to the point that I felt annoyed by everything.

This is just my personal opinion

Hooked on a Witch is the fourth book in the Keepers of the Veil series, and can be read as a standalone, so long as you don't mind catching up as you go along. Shannon is learning what it is to be a Pleiades Witch, for all that she may not have long to live. During her search for a specific object, she reunites with Merck, a young man she knew from school who she liked. Things move on very quickly as one enemy and another comes after Shannon and Merck, throwing them together even though they decide otherwise.

This is a fast-paced and action-filled book. Shannon is still very nervous about her magic, whilst Merck is completely confident in his. Together, these two help each other, giving them something they didn't realise was missing. There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. I really hope that I see more of these two, as I would love to see Shannon blossom into her abilities and gain confidence as the leader of the Pleiades Witches. With a neat twist at the end, this book was thoroughly enjoyable. Definitely recommended by me.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

I should have put the book down when it referred to a character simply as "The Asian" several times in the first chapter. A) Don't. B) Asia is huge... calling a character "The Asian" means they can be one of multiple ethnicities and actually gives me nothing about the character. Oh, and "The Asian" would only stand out in the south if you believe in Hollywood's narrative in which everyone from Asia might as well not exist.

But I didn't set it down, and so I was subjected to less of a witch story and more of a mythology story. And it could have been good. The prose was relatively well constructed. It's just that it didn't flow well, the pacing was off, and the misogyny was so strung I choked on it.

Daddy tells her no so she just shuts down? I mean, I know I do but that's because my father is a recovering alcoholic and I still have moments where I'm physically afraid of him. Are you saying her father is abusive? Because while the subtext clearly states that, the character doesn't seem to think there's anything wrong with it. Or with the male romantic lead being bossy without any explanation. Why explain? Clearly, she should just listen to him because he "feels safe."

It's offensive and personally triggering so I could not finish it.
