The Founders' Festival has come to the sleepy island town of Seaside. It's a week of live music, crafts, and homemade goodies. But when one of the village's residents ends up dead, it's clear things are not all fun and carnival games. It will be up to Paige, Nate, and Johnny to figure out whodunit.
I'd forgotten how much I absolutely loved the character of Johnny in this series! He's always good for some laughs as well as good old Stan of the Seaside police. I realize this series isn't a realistic portrayal of police, but this is a fun fiction mystery and it's not supposed to be anything except fun. When I read it, I think of Stan as Barney Fife on steroids lol! His sidekick Fred seems to have a little more sense, but again, they're always good for a comedy scene, no different than a comedy show. They're both excitable but well-meaning. Johnny the surfer is such a fun character. Just when you think he's clueless about something, he'll say something very profound, meaning that he's completely on the same page as whoever he's talking to. Johnny got more story time in this book along with his curmudgeonly dad, Doyle.
There was a side mystery along with the murder of the much-despised ferry booth ticket agent, which had to do with a woman who came there with papers she insisted that Nate Edward (owner of the island property as heir) sign some papers pretty much sight unseen. I loved what happened at the end, it was a good twist that I hadn't quite seen and tied in with Georgia's murder as well. Oh and Paige's ex showed up as well. One tip if you're going to read this series, you should start with the first book like I did. I'll definitely be borrowing the next book from Kindle Unlimited as well!
This is the second book in a series that followed on from The secret of Seaside , Paige Comber mystery book 1 by Agatha Ball
I really enjoyed the first book, so I carried straight on with this one as soon as I’d finished.
The series is beginning to remind me of several British tv murder mystery programs such as, Midsummer Murders, Death in paradise etc. Although the law according to Stan and Fred, drove me bonkers! What a right pair they are! I was so frustrated by them and really wanted someone to bang their heads together (in the nicest most law abiding way of course).
The characters follow on beautifully from the previous book and new characters are brought in smoothly, while previous characters develop. There is much to grin at in this book and be rattled by, no names (Stan, Fred, Madison).
I thoroughly enjoyed finding out what was going on with who and why. Some of which I found I could guess and others not a clue!
Am I looking forward to the next instalment? I’m about to look it up right now!
"Murder's A Beach" is book #2 in the "Paige Comber" series by Agatha Ball.
Founders' Festival is usually a fun event for the folks of Seaside and the tourists but a local woman is found dead and fingers are pointed. Paige, Nate and Johnny are going to have to solve this case as the local officers aren't the sharpest tools in the box.
Paige is stunned to see someone from her past in the Bitter Bean and Nate is dealing with a pushy representitive of a development company who had supposedly worked out a deal with his late uncle.
The novella length story is a quick read but also entertaining - at least when you aren't wanting to throttle the local cops. I do like the core characters of this series. Granny and her posse are a hoot! Johnny can be a bit of an airhead but he means well. Paige and Nate make a great couple. Will be reading more of this series!
The ending was a surprise! I couldn’t picture Linda as being one of the murderers. She just didn’t seem to have enough intelligence! The policemen on the island are starting to get on my nerves, though. They don’t seem to have enough brains to fill a kidney bean. It would seem that the town council would get some other policemen to fill those two ninnies’ boots. I am interested, though, to what the next book holds in store for Seaside.
Just like the first this book you don’t want to put it down. Guessing who done it and seeing if you can figure it out before the characters do. Loved it! And although it is written where you can understand what you need to from the first book, it’s nicer if you read in order. But if you don’t have access to book one don’t let thus one slip through your fingers. And great for my advanced reading preteen friends no language and no sexual behavior.
Excellent holiday read with an unexpected who done it twist in the end. Seaside mysteries are probably played out but would like to read other works from this author .
Light reading, and easy to follow the story line . I enjoyed the characters. Most of the time I like more of a deeper mystery with all the twist and turns , but this was a good read. Kept my interest to the end.
Enjoyed another mystery on the island. Will read the next one. A girl goes to spend the summer on an island helping her grandmother in her bakery. Mysterious murder to solve. Fun island personalities.
Second book in the Seaside series has even more whodunits and at least 1 dead body, 2 injuries, and the usual two bumbling policemen. Have a great time and I’ll see you after the next book.
Yeah, this rarely happens, but I read the first in the series, then immediately bought and read this one. Book 3 is downloading as I write this review. Fraud a mini vacation at the beach with Paige and Hate!
I did not really care for the first book. I’d hoped this one would be better, but sadly it was not. Still very bland and yet lots of unrealistic manufactured drama. Maybe this is disposed to be YA? I guess this author isn’t for me. I won’t be trying any more.
Definitely a fun beach read, and a solid continuation to the series. The second book in a series can often be a make or break point in the series, and this one was just as great as the first. Engaging, fun, and a good mystery again!
