In a not-so-distant future, Dreams really do come true…
When the world ignores a warning of destruction, it rebuilds itself around the Dreamers that can predict and prevent another catastophy. Dreamers are revered, rich, and powerful. They are protected from all the dangers this new world presents.
So when Charlie discovers she has the talent, she’s shocked that her parents want her to hide it. Her father spends years secretly teaching her the rules and helping those she sees in danger, rather than sending her away to be trained and protected.
Now in her final year at school, with her own future uncertain, she'll be faced with the choice of following her Dreams... or her heart.
Combining elements of several genres, this debut novella will captivate readers who enjoy paranormal, dystopian, and young adult books.
But it's not just any dream, it's a Dream, an ability that has helped cobble her broken world back together.
So when her family insists that she hides her dreams, she takes them at their word... until the boy from her Dreams shows up and shatters everything she believed to be true (like Dreamers never meet those they Dream about).
Now Charlie has to figure out her Role, and it doesn't seem to fit in neatly with the Roles her society has laid out.
I found this story compelling, despite it having a lack of goal. And the extra publications were neat, despite the fact that I was craving chapters. It felt like we ended in the middle of the story (edit: apparently this is part 1 of a 2 part story, which the author has subsequently taken down in favor of combining the two parts), but I admit I'm intrigued enough to read the next one.
So, four stars because of the quirks that I didn't quite gel with, but don't let that discourage you. :)
Charlie Abbot lives in a dystopian world where “dreamers” are a precious national commodity. Dreamers, you see, can foretell the future, and are cultivated by the government in order to prevent catastrophes and terrorist attacks. Charlie, much to her chagrin, is having the same recurring dream – that of a fiery inferno, at the center of which is a boy she doesn’t know. And because her father has gone out of his way to keep her ability a secret, she despairs that this boy will die.
This is a very well written story. I like the world that has been created here and the characters are well developed with room to expand as the series continues. I was drawn into the story from the first page and could not put it down. I look forward to reading the next installment and recommend this book highly.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story line was interesting but the ending was very abrupt, leaving me wanting to know more. I suppose that was the intention. Worth the read.
3.5 Stars. While I so enjoyed the storyline and the characters were interesting, I felt like it needed more to fill it out. I did overall enjoy this book though.
