Where the Night Ends

Rate this book
It only takes one night—one moment, one small snippet of time—to change everything. At sixteen-years-old, Sebastian Baxter taught me that. He taught me a lot of things .He never had to work for my heart. In some unexplainable way I think it had always belonged to him anyway. We spent years loving each other, hurting each other, trying to forget each other, but no matter how hard I tried, I could never erase the memory of him. His eyes, his smile, his touch—these are all things that are embedded in my brain, tattooed on my skin, and etched into my heart. Some might think our love story is over, but deep down I know it’s only just beginning. Because it’s not about where the night begins, it’s about where it ends…

"My everything."

I saw the word angst and I was immediately drawn in. That word is such a beacon for me that I knew I had to read it. And even though I've never read this author before I knew I couldn't let this one slip by. I'm glad I didn't because I've definitely found a new go-to author.

Tessa (Tess) and Sebastian meet in high school. She's had a crush on him for two years but he's a year older and out of her league...or so she thinks. One night at a party at his house, they connect. She's nothing like most of the girls who thrown themselves at him and he's intrigued...really intrigued.

So much so, that he goes to her house the next night, and the next and so on. Suddenly, Mr. Doesn't Do Relationships is rethinking things.

description

I really enjoyed reading about these two falling in love even though I hated how some of the people treated Tess. I thought she handled herself well and it speaks volumes of her relationship with her Mom even more.

My issue with the book is that almost sixty-eight percent of it is based on their time in high school and continues until the big drama happens. I kept looking at that percentage on my kindle and saying hurry up, hurry up... we need some time jumps, we need something to happen because I just couldn't fathom there being another book and having to wait for it to come out. (Because, of course, I didn't even look to see if this was a standalone book but don't worry it is.)

And boy does the rest of the book pack a punch! There's so much that happens and thankfully we get those time jumps I was wishing for!

I loved how it ended and I definitely loved the angst. There's nothing mind shattering about this book but if you love an angsty romance, this one's right up your alley.

Where the Night Ends is just painful. A really painful listen. The story is evolving around Sebastian and Tess. Miss Toppen introduces them from high school year. They met over a party and fall in love. The story follows them until they became adult in their life.

What really blow me off is the characters. They are just privileged, selfish characters who just can think about themselves. Not appreciating the adult in their life. Sebastian is the worst. He is like a whiplash. And the plot itself is horrific. It seems like it is written by amateur. Need a serious editing.

I have another book by Miss Toppen on my TBR list. I am not sure if I want to go through with it at this point.

Where The Night Ends

This was my first book by this author and I'm thoroughly impressed. I haven't read a full book in quite while. I was in the longest book slump ever. Just got sick and tired of reading, what felt like, the same book over and over again. Finally, something that kept my attention. WTNE was sweet and relatable and although it too, was a bit predictable—It was still a great read.

The plot follows high school peers Fiona and Sebastian—who officially meet at a party thrown at Sebastian's beautiful mansion. Fiona, being out of her comfort zone and Sebastian, being over the entire party, run into each other after their failed party experience. The night takes off with these two making a run for it, spending the night getting better acquainted. Sebastian is completely smitten by Fiona and Fiona is having an outer body experience—hanging with a guy she's had a crush on for the longest.

Coming from two totally different backgrounds, these two find a strange comfort and an instant connection with one another. Sebastian doesn't usually do the relationship thing, so when he suggest one to Fiona, she feels like he's playing a not so funny trick on her. Sebastian has real issues at home and as time passes Fiona sees how the future could tear them apart, still, she throws all her eggs into the basket and hopes for the best.

When she falls for Sebastian, she falls head first and hard as hell. She winds up with a broken heart that still isn't mended, when Sebastian shows up to win her back. Unfortunately, she is now engaged to another man and extremely pissed at the audacious visit from Sebastian. She turns him away over and over again and she finally gets the silence as a confirmation that Sebastian has definitely gotten the message. Is Sebastian going to leave again? Is he able to move on?

3 stars!!!

Tessa e Sebastian não me convenceram.

THIS BOOK WAS FREAKING AMAZING!!!!

OMG. THIS BOOK! Reading it was a total rollercoaster. I didn’t know which way was up!

This book was freaking awesome. I’ve only read one other book by Melissa Toppen (so far) but I liked what I read. So when I got the chance to read this before it was released, I jumped on it. I literally read it in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. From the moment Tessa and Sebastian met, the emotions were jumping of the page. I loved their connection, and how he was willing to go slow with her. I loved watching him fall in love with her, and her with him.
This book seriously got me. Like seriously had me by the heart and was jerking me every which way. I knew, just KNEW that things were going to blow up. I was loving the story. I was into it, it was AMAZING….but it was going a little too good…know what I mean? Then it happened…BAM…things blew up.

And while I still loved the book, I started to have issues with Tessa. It wasn’t anything huge, but, let’s be real here….I loved Sebastian. Like seriously loved him. I’ve definitely added him to my book boyfriend collection…but with the way she kept reacting to him, pushing him away…I got seriously frustrated with her. At one point I didn’t care if they ever got together just because I wanted to reach into my kindle and pull him out so he could be mine.

So, yeah….if you know me at all, I hold grudges against fictional characters. It’s not a new thing but I’m happy to say it doesn’t happen all that often. But there’s definitely a grudge against Tessa. There was a moment at her graduation party… girl, no. Just no. I wasn’t cool with it AT. ALL. I haven’t felt the need to give a character a good Gibbs head slap in ages, but at that moment, I wanted to head slap her…no, I wanted to give her a good dropkick across the globe.

Thankfully, she did come to her senses. I’m honestly still a little torn as to whether things went to easy for her or if she should have had to work harder to make up for what happened at the graduation party.

Even with my irritation at Tessa, I completely loved this book. I hated to see it end…even if it did rip my heart out on more than one occasion. This book was pure magic. It’s a definite must read!

I'm a glutton for punishment because after all the heartbreak, the tears, the smiles, the joys and every emotion under the sun that I went thru while reading this book, I still want more of Sebastian and Tessa. At least a novella!!!

First of all, this author is extremely good with wrapping you into the stories and throwing you different curveballs at you. This is the second book I've read of hers and it's another awesome read.

This book started with Sebastian being a senior, popular high school quarterback and Tessa being the innocent, pure junior. They met in the most weirdest way and started to get each other better on a deeper level. These two were very mature for high school students. One thing that I enjoyed that this author did was not emphasis Sebastian's past with other girls. I liked that it was mentioned but we didn't need a play by play in each chapter with him and done other chick while pursuing Tessa. Tessa couldn't believe that someone like Sebastian was actually interested her. When she saw that he was serious, she started loosening up little by little and the most beautiful teenage love story developed. Sebastian was soooooo damn adorable, patient and protective of Tessa. He only had eyes for her and her for him. Then something happened that completely shattered me while reading and they broke up before he left for college.

These two had several opportunities to make amends but didn't. As the years passed by they still thought of each other but never did anything. Things got complicated here because they were in college in two different states thousands of miles away. Sebastian tried not once, not twice but three times to try and get back with Tessa but the timing was always off for them. Tessa was just too scared.

When they FINALLY got their act together I actually wanted more if these two. My heart broke for both of them as the years passed. But at the end true love never dies. And I must say her friends and her mom, lol, priceless. Team Sebastian all the time.

Where the Night Ends was is hard on a persons’ emotions! The couple Sebastian and Tessa fought for their relationship only to sabotage it themselves, before finding their way back, years later. Sebastian is your typical high school jock, who reputation is legendary, being drawn into a web of curiosity about the overachieving, quiet Tessa. The tension between the two is so tight; when it finally explodes everyone is affected by it. Becoming the couple that everyone watches comes with its costs. To watch how they navigate very choppy waters of high school social order had me pulling for them more and more.

When Tess and Sebastian first met, it was set up to lead the reader into the depths of a dark and violent way, just hold on! Ms. Toppen pulled the rug out from under readers and made Sebastian instantly a likable, lovable character. Tess, even a little unsure of herself at times, I found to be a likable character from the start. The secondary characters; Courtney, Ant, and Bree, could not have been better written. I want more and more from the entire cast of Where the Night Ends! All of the characters provoke emotions in readers; anger, despair, sadness, hope, and love. The plot is a smooth plot with a couple of twist, I do wish there was a bit more on Tess and Sebastian as they enter adulthood; while they are apart and as they welcome each other back into their lives. This was my first novel written by Melissa Toppen and won't be my last! I highly recommend Where the Night Ends for readers who enjoy a little angst with their romance!

**There is an incident of physical abuse between secondary characters in the novel; it is written with respect and as much tactfulness as possible when addressing these issues. Please keep this in mind when considering purchasing, it is a brief incident, however it’s still clearly abuse and could be a trigger for some. **

Melissa Toppen, where have you been all my life and why haven't I read any of your books before?!!! GAH!

Where the Night Ends was an absolutely fantastic coming of age love story that had me glued to my kindle. Tess and Sebastian meet during high school and their first, true love is a angst-ridden ride of perfection.

Melissa captured what it was like being back in high school and falling in love so realistically, I felt like I was living their experiences right along with them. There were moments where my heart was hurting and moments where my heart soared.

I can't wait to dive into the rest of Melissa Toppen's books. Sebastian is on my list of top Book Boyfriends for sure!! Loved it!! #BookGasm

Weird dynamic

Let me start off by saying the 3 friends were awesome. Bree, Courtney, and Teas were amazing friends to each other. Held each other up and fiercely loved one another. Aside from their friendship this book was boring. Like monotonous, Eeyore type boring. It had nothing going on accept a bit of whining and complaining. Sebastian was a selfish dick, he put it in anything that could breath and claimed to still be in love with Tess. Tess strung a wonderful man along and the. Broke his heart for no other reason it seems than to teach Sebastian a lesson.
Ultimately these two losers deserve each other. They haven't spoken in 5 years. Lives into adulthood after going away to separate colleges and they're still in love? I smell divorce in the near future. I cannot read Bree's book bc I'm sure it will be just as bad if not worse

Finally I’ve finish this book. The start was good, The rest of the story was not.‏ there was a lot of stupid games between the Hero and the heroine, And they were the ones that brought on themselves troubles that’s was not really necessary. Not my type of story. The writing was good so I give it three stars.

A beautiful book that took me in a journey of various emotions, made me cry a lot and the emotional rollercoaster was definitely worth it. These are the kind of books that make me want to read High School Romances even at 22. And Sebastian is definitely #boyfriendgoals.

Wow! I absolutely love this book!!! Melissa Toppen has done it again with this fabulous love story!!! Heartwarming. Heartbroken. So many emotions!!
The story is about Sebastian and Tess who fall in love during high school years and the choices they make up to graduating college. Trying to be with each other but the time is never right.  Sebastian's unconditional love for Tess. Five years he's waited for her. Will Tess finally admit to her fears and be with the love of her life?
Melissa Toppen never lets you down with her books!   'it isn't where the night begins....it's where the night ends'. I would definitely recommend this book!!! I'm volunteering an honest review for an advance reader's copy.

Hello ugly cry. Hello book hangover. One of my top reads yet this year. It's so good. Melissa Toppen shines in this one. I love Tess and Sebastian. Oh the feels. You can't help but get that awe feeling when they first meet. They meet young and while reading this you try and prepare for what's to come. Your heart will break just a little. You cry with Tess. You cry for Sebastian. For the friendships. Where the Night Ends is a beautiful story of young love. A love that takes you down roads you didn't expect and hope you can migrate back to the start. A beautiful love story that makes you want to see where the night ends with your love. Gives me hope that true love is still out there. That it's all worth fighting for.

It started of well. I enjoyed Tess and Sebastian as a couple. They were sweet together, even though they were teens they seemed mature and truly in love. About half way in things fell flat for me and never really got better.
Abusive boyfriend. Teen Pregnancy. Cheating. Drunk driving. Controlling parents. It was just a lot of drama with no actual cause to it all. It was all glossed over.
Then the ending was pages and pages of the H/h speaking about their "feelings". And then 5 years pass of them living their own lives and then boom they get engaged because of the loved they shared as teens. That was too fantastical to believe in my opinion 5 years is a huge amount of time for two people to change! How could their love still be the same? I had high hopes but it fell flat in the end.

I have read Melissa before so I jumped on this. I went in not knowing a lot about it but I was totally ok with it. Her books have never let me down before and neither did this one. This one kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Not in a suspenseful way but will they or won't they or do they and don't they. There is everything in this book. So many feels. I had a bit of tears in my eyes at times. One of the best coming of age books I have ever read. Melissa outdid herself. I loved everything about Where The Night Ends. It grabbed me and didn't let go. I was there with them through thick and thin, the good, the bad and the ugly. There a few time jumps but they are needed for this story. It spans over the course of six years and has dual points of view but most of it is told from Tess’ point of view.

The book starts with Tess starting her junior year of high school, being talked into going to a party, with one of her best friends, of soon to be senior, all-star football player (in high school) and a player in the bedroom Sebastian. Tess has been staying in the background since her ex Dylan was found cheating on her. Now, Tess has been crushing on Sebastian since her freshman year and he hasn’t even taken notice or has he? She is strong, smart and beautiful and doesn't see herself clearly. Tess knows what she wants and she doesn’t let people walk on her. I think what endeared her to me the most was her confidence. Though there are times I want to smack her and tell her to open her eyes.

Sebastian, what can I say about him? Well, he is awesome and a player not gonna lie. He is popular and gorgeous and a bit of a hot head. When he finds her on his patio balcony during the party things change. They have a connection. She can see through the walls he puts and he can see through hers. They ground each other. He is so loving and careful and thoughtful and downright sexy. He is charming and gentleman and he thinks about her and her well-being. I think that’s what got me besides loving Tess. She is made to feel that she isn’t what he wants and needs by the others in school. She is ridiculed and bullied. I forgot how high school could be. There are times when Sebastian doesn't feel like he is deserving of her. That’s what I also loved about it. These two are so great together. So many feels. Emotional overload. One bad choice after a discussion with his dad and everything changes and not for the better. Bring on the tears and tissue. This is where the rollercoaster begins.

The dynamic is great between Tess and Sebastian as I said, as well as the secondary characters are great and there for one another. The three best friends are more like sisters. I also liked the relationship Tess had with her mom. I loved the quotes and it is so perfect met with the title of this book. Let’s just see where the night ends. Ugh, Sebastian, see that’s another reason why I loved him.

The story is written flawlessly and the pace is perfect for this book. It sucks you in and you grab it and won’t let you go. I'm sure you won’t want to. As I said, in the beginning, the author outdid herself. I don't normally like high school books, they make me feel old but this is so different. Tess doesn't fit the mold of what the popular guy would want. She is smart and had her life planned just like he does. Can they be together and make it work? Join them and find out. I highly encourage you to read this. You won't be sorry.

This is a romance that starts when they are high school and then the break-up spreads out over years, with missed opportunities to get back together.
In some ways it's reasonable, they are young and have their careers to sort out but the issue I have is while they are broken up he sleeps around, there is even a comment of it being half the state, and she is with someone else. But they both love each other, her I can understand as he broke it off so she eventually moves on but he feels he can't be with her due to events at first then distance and there is no guarantee but he says he will eventually get back with her but in the meantime he'll sleep around.
She's not that type but she would end up with that type of guy, why they think when they eventually sort things out he will suddenly convert to monogamy is a mystery. The reason given is cos she's 'the one'. I don't like this type of 'hero'... At all.
Not for me.

What a great story! I loved every second of Sebastian and Tess's journey. I'm so glad I took a chance on this new-to-me author and read this book. It was full of lots and lots of angst and plenty of passion plus heartache but in the end, it was worth the ride. I definitely plan to check out more from her. I also can't wait for Bree's story later this year. I hope she gets her HEA. She so deserves it after all she'd endured. And maybe we'll get a Courtney book too?? *hint hint*
Anyway, amazing story. I can add Sebastian to my list of book boyfriends because that boy/man was one sexy, swoony hero!!!

Melissa Toppin's writing is always flawless and flows easily. I'm always invested in her storytelling and this book is no different. Tess and Sebastian meet at a High school party. Their is an immediate connection. Fast forward to college, things are not easy for the two. Life sometimes changes things for us if we let it and and Tess and Sebastian have trouble finding their timing to be together.

This book will make you think again about your first love and those feelings that go with it. I was rooting for these two all along. I love the details of Sebastian and Tess's love story and the reminder that we have to fight for what we want and not let fear get in our way.

Oh my... I don't know where to start with this. *sigh* Tess and Sebastian. One night of experiencing something different led this pair together. Young love. The combination of teenage hormones and angst drives this pair to love like nothing before. But also drives them to pain like neither had felt before. It's the question if young love - your first love - can be your true love or only a small part of growing up. Amazing read!

Where The Night Ends is a standalone young adult/coming of age romance. I’m not a huge reader of this genre as the angst and immaturity frustrates me but I was pleasantly surprised at how mature the characters were in this book. It was a refreshing change for this genre to me.

Sebastian is the hot guy on the football team who all the girls want and the guys want to be. He comes from a rich family and wants for nothing except maybe love and support from his parents. He acts out by throwing wild parties at his house while his parents are away which happens often. It is at one of these parties that he first meets shy, beautiful but doesn’t know it, Tess.

Tess is the typical bookworm who is the opposite of her extrovert BFFs. She would much rather stay at home with her books rather than hit the party scene. However on one occasion she was unable to get out of going and she is dragged to a party that is a must attend. It is whilst she is there that she finally comes face to face with her secret crush, Sebastian. Thinking she has no chance with him at all, she is surprised when they spend the evening together and get on like a house on fire. Even more off the charts is at the end of their night he asks for her number. From then on begins the epic love of Tess and Sebastian.

With a young adult romance there were plenty of instances of angst and insecurity but on the most part this was a really good romance that kept me captivated and engaged throughout. Sebastian and Tess were instantly likable if not loveable characters and even the secondary characters were a hit. The journey of their story was intense and at a steady pace and build. However once the curveball happens about 60% the story does become a little repetitive and slows down substantially. However this did not overly detract from my enjoyment of the read and I was keen to get to that HEA which I’m pleased to say did happen for me but not without a major heart in the mouth moment.

Overall a great young adult/coming of age romance with surprising elements of maturity that would be an enjoyable read for others that may not be hooked on this genre. I really enjoyed and would definitely recommend. Four stars.

Where the Night Ends by Melissa Toppen

Absolute 5 STARS!!!

I can not begin to explain the amount of emotions this book brought out in me. In fact as I write this review, I still feel this huge amount of weight on my chest and my eyes start to feel the burn of unshed tears brimming to the surface.

We follow a quiet yet smart young girl Tess and the popular hot football player Sebastian through their first crush, first love, first and second heartbreak. I am still struggling with words to explain the amount of emotions this book brought to surface. It was an amazingly beautifully written story that had me screaming to my friends about how much I loved this ARC. The way this author put into such detail of how this couple met, flirted and fell in love, I felt like I was there living every step with them. I have to admit it really had me reliving my first love and yes my first heartbreak as well.

I have never encountered such a book that literally made me feel everything these characters felt, at least not like this. There were times when I was screaming at the character to turn around fix this, and there were times when I couldn’t get the smile off my face if I tried.

This is a book that will have you smiling, crying, laughing, have you on your knees praying for the hurt to end and then smiling all over again. This book had me crying even after my third time reading it.

The funny thing is I had to put myself through this beautiful torture at least 2 more times after initially reading this book.

As always while giving an honest review, I ask myself a couple of questions. Would I read this author again…. oh most definitely yes. Would I recommend this author to my friends...again hell yes (already did). Would I recommend this book to my friends….absofreakinlutely YES (In fact I already have).

This author is new to me and I am now a fan. I gave this book a hands down 5 stars!

Melissa Toppen has done it again with beautiful love story! So many emotions occur in this story-The story is about Sebastian and Tess who fall in love during high school –Theirs is an immediate connection and soon they are dating in HS. Yet when they come to the beginning of college things are not easy for the star crossed lovers. Sebastian does not have a great relationship with his parents and this affects how he lives his life and what choices he makes. He is older than Tess and when he leaves for college things are not super great between them. Time seems to be the enemy for both of them which you will understand when you read this story. I felt so bad for Tess and for Seb, because they are two awesome people who are trying to do the right thing for each other and for their relationship . This story has many ups and downs, many emotional things that happen on the course of true love for this couple. There is angst, heartbreak, pain yet there is love and forgiveness-and really above all TRUE LOVE. I loved every moment, every tear, every smile and every ahhh moment in this story

This so far is my favorite book by this author. I read it through Kindle Unlimited and loved it so much I purchased it because I know I will read it more than once. It has all the feels and a lot of angst. The writing is wonderful and the story is told through alternating pov's.

Sebastian is a senior in high school and the star quarterback on the football team. He meets Tess at a party at his house. She is a junior and has 2 best friend Courtney and Bree He is the bad boy who doesn't do relationships and she is the girl that gets him to change his mind. They have a wonderful last year of high school together before he goes off to college. Things happen and in trying to do the right thing for her they end their relationship. They spend the next 5 years apart, each attending a different college and seeing each other only a couple of times. Their love never dies as they live separate lives never truly getting over the other. This is such a sweet story and I highly recommend!!

I gave this book 4.5 stars!!

This is the story of Sebastian and Tess who fall in love in high school years and the choices they make. Sebastian is going away to college and Tess is only 16. Melissa takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions with these two and will have you at the edge of your seat to see if they get their HEA. I read a lot and I admit that I don't read a lot of the YA category but this one surprised me at how well the characters were developed and how mature that they could be.

I have read several of Melissa books and I found this one didn't disappoint, so if your looking for a good book, that you can devour in a couple of hours, then look no further.

Where The Night Ends by Melissa Toppen
What a phenomenal coming of age romance novel. There was so much angst and emotional fraught. Sebastian stole my heart like he did Tess’s. She meets him at age 16 and after a night of true beginnings they have a wonderful relationship. They have swoon-worthy moments and a connection full of witty banter that will have you melting. He is the perfect boyfriend until he makes a mistake. Sebastian does not have a great relationship with his parents and this affects his life choices. He is older than Tess and when he leaves for college things are not great between them. Timing always seems to be the enemy and you will feel empathy for both of them. The character development was awesome and you feel like you are one of the best friends while reading. The writing is engaging and flows. Where the night ends, will leave you emotional and breathless. This one gives you hope for true love and the author did a great job in capturing the emotions of true love. I would highly recommend this read.
