The stories were cute, short and I'd say a 2/5 on the smut scale. I was hoping for a little more smut and a little more character development but overall ok if you need a shorter read.
Overall this was a good set of stories. There were actual stories and decent ones at that. I mean no deep storylines or anything, but more than your normal churned out quick erotica. I wouldn't even call these erotica. Yes, there are some explicit sex scenes, but not terribly explicit and they fit the story instead of overwhelming it. That's not to say they weren't hot, because they were. It just wasn't to the extent you might expect by the title. My main issue with those stories was a lack of a good epilogue. Yep, there were epilogue, but they really weren't. An epilogue should give a glimpse of the future and answer any dangling plot lines. We didn't get either. For example, the Centaur story. We didn't learn who the new Herd mate is (I'm guessing, but the story doesn't actually tell us or even better show us), would have loved to see what happened when her flaky friend came back, but that is just skipped. We also never got a description of the farmhouse. That would have been nice. Would have been nice to see an actual herd meeting after the made was chosen, maybe see the herd more balanced and being treated right. The author just wraps up things too quickly and leaves the reader feeling like they missed something in every story. Just a little more effort would have made these books pretty awesome.
This collection comes with three stories, each with its own monster.
Mermen: surprisingly hot underwater action! I was pleasantly surprised by this story. The mer culture that the author created was great. I really want to see more mermen finding love with human females. A very sweet love story overall. This was my favorite story of the bunch.
Centaurs: cowboys you can REALLY ride. This was probably my least favorite story. The cowboy centaur was super hot but the heroine wasn’t my cup of tea. She was just too passive for me though she did grow a major backbone at the end. Also, I’m surprised she accepted her lover turning into a centaur so well. I feel like there should have been a bit of a freak out period.
Djinn: sexy immortal lover! Yes please. I really liked this one too. The hero was Uber hot and the heroine was fierce and determined. My only complaint is that I would have liked a bit more relationship development instead of almost instant “I love you”. But it was still really good and I’d love to see more books like this.
The stories were fun quick reads. Give these monsters a try. I think you’ll like things a little on the monstrous side.
I really like this author's books. Her writing is very creative. This one has three great stories in and the characters are strong. Book 1 is The Merman's Kiss - Brianna is in mourning for a baby she lost and a cold husband. So she jumps in the ocean with weights attached so she can die. A Merman comes along and through a misunderstanding she gets mated to him. Book 2 is The Centaur's Bride - The herd on this harm are all shifter horses with a domineering leader named Lori. Lori treats Black who is a centaur shifter and a get like a lower class citizen. Along comes Reneea who inherited the farm from her grandfather. Black and Reneea hit it off and become lovers, but Black realizes this human is his mate. Then trouble starts brewing when secrets emerge. Book 3 is The Djinn's Desire - Ophir is djinn whose been stuck in the human realm for 800 years. All he wants is to find a portal into his realm. He thinks he smells it when he comes up to a beauty salon / fortune teller tent. But he finds Tanika who tells fortunes thru your hand. He desires her and as she's a human he fights it. He smells the portal smell on her. All the stories have very Happy endings and I'm so glad I discovered this book and author.
A merman's kiss-- a merman finds a human in the water drowning. He gives her a kiss but then she hugs him. Next thing you know they're bond mate. Through many adventures the mermaid man realizes that he keep his bond mate in the ocean to protect her. He let her go back to land. There's more to the story but if you're interested you must buy the box set.
The centaur's bride-- a human inherited a ranch from her grandfather. But the ranch supposedly has a treasure hidden on it. The treasures are horse shifter and one centaur shifter. The hum an and the centaur shifter our life mates. Drama occurs about the inheritance and more.
A Djinn's Desire--A djinn power source is in a locket locked in a bank lock box. A human with some djinn blood keeps him locked up with an unfulfilled wish. Just as he is trapped she is too. Can this dilemma be solved by another Djinn who is her life mate?
All of the characters are intriguing, sexy, and dramatic as far as Monsters appear to be. The plots are each different uniquely theirs as the characters are.
I found the characters interesting and the stories fascinating. I would highly recommend these to anybody who wants a enjoyable fantasy.
These fast reading novellas were enjoyable reading & the 3 combined was a good combination. The Merman's Kiss-I think this was my favorite of the 3 novellas in this book collections. I enjoyed the unique take on mermaids and mermen. I wasn't sure where this would go, but was pleased with it overall in the end. I barely noticed that the world building & small details weren't as filled in (as some novellas tend to be) as they could have been. I didn't have quite so many unanswered questions at the end. The Centaur's Bride-This was a cutesy little novella for a quick read. Novellas tend to disappoint me for the most part, because they usually lack what makes for a full story reading experience. The story is very predictable. I’d have liked a bit more to flesh this story out, & some more thought to what’s possible physically for a horse or even a centaur’s body. The Djinn's Desire-This was a bit more intense than a novella normally is, it did make for a quick read, the story was not predictable- as I haven't read to many Djinn stories before, it was a quirky unique story. It held my attention and let me overlook some of the smaller details that were missing that's so common with novellas. It was well worth it for a quick read.
Really. I rarely if ever say that about a book (books in this case). Truly lovely writing, especially in the first book describing a love story between a human woman and a merman in a vividly gorgeous and dangerous underwater world.
In the second book, this is not your ordinary shifter story with a centaur. It's all kinds of brilliant. World-building hinted at with restraint. And characters painted slowly and completely.
The third story involves family and two djinn (the theme running strongly through all of these stories) and is revenge laden. It doesn't matter to Janika that her mother did abhorrent things for a soul hungry djinn-it was the djinn who stole. And it eventually killed her mother and grandmother. This story is murky gray regarding family; but the main character just wants the evil dead and gone.
Three maidens for three monsters... what more could one ask for. Each story in this box set is a gem on its own. And while we know such things as mermen, centaurs and genies aren’t real, these stories were surprisingly believable. The trait of any great story-telling is the ability to suspend disbelief and engulf the reader in a totally different realm. The author has more than delivered with this collection. I highly recommend this set as well as the author, herself. I’ll be on the lookout for her backlist.
My only complaint is that the romantic plot moved too quickly in the 1st and 3rd stories. I'd like more courtship involved rather than just blind attraction or being thrown together by circumstance. The culture of each "monster's" world is fascinating and I love the layers that are built in. The plots are compelling enough to keep the pages turning but the fast pacing made me wish for more time, more pages to luxuriate in. Like many books, and love affairs, the stories were over too quickly.
There are a lot of books which show how paranormals may integrate into contemporary society. This series does a great job of showing the challenges of dealing (or not dealing) with humans, of dealing with prejudices within and without the species and falling in love with quite the wrong person. Despite the explicit sex scenes, these stories do not emphasize the sex but allow the sex scenes to fill out and make the romances described more fulfilling. If you want stories that are just a little steamier than the sweetness of Joynell Schultz, you should consider reading Tamsin Ley's work.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! All three stories are wonderfully unique situations and amazing characters with different backgrounds. Each storyline is going to capture your attention and emotions. Plenty of build-up to getting their own HEA to complete your enjoyment . I highly recommend you check out for your own personal library to enjoy over and over again.👏👏👏👏👏🔟🔟🔟🔟💟💑💒💖💝😘😍
I lite the each story had its own voice. Some stories I liked more than others.I My favorite was the Berman story.it was interesting and it highlighted why the merman was considered a monster. I really enjoyed his from the female's POV and his own. It was interesting how their view of one another played off each other.
Definitely a must read for the romantic fantasy lovers.
I really enjoyed these short stories. normally they're just too clipped and un-detailed for me but tamsin ley really did well with the characters and world building in such a short amount of time. the passions between the characters wasn't lacking either. I think my favorite was the first one about Zantu, the merman and Brianna.. it was very emotional and intense and still managed to be smoking hot. I very much recommend this one for a quick couple of reads.
Centaurs and mermen are not written about that much in paranormal ro.ance and I found myself enjoying those stories the best. The djinn story was nice too but it lacked a little oomph that the other two had. Applause for some original thinking and I enjoyed myself reading this collection.
For adult readers. There are three separate stories in this book. There is a merman, centaur, and a djinn, all males. These stories are all romances with happy endings. I have this one three stars because the book is well edited. I really enjoyed the first story about the merman and his mate, the last two weren't interesting to me.
Three hot "monsters"; three hot stories. From the ocean bottom where mermen are faithful, caring fathers to the American west where a half-breed finds acceptance in a lifemate to a modern town where two djinn battle for control. I loved every bit of this set and can't wait to read more by this author.
This was a very well written group of books. This was the first book that I have read from this talented author. It will not be the last. I have quickly become invested into these diverse group of characters and look forward to continuing each group's storylines. Very happy I purchased this set!
Mates for Monsters was not what I expected..... It far exceeded my expectations. Tasmin Ley draws you in with romance danger and excitement and of course great sex! I couldn't put the book down, my only critique is that I wish they were longer it just left me wanting more!
I enjoyed this unique telling of romance with incredible beings, centaurs, djinn, and mermen. Each one was handled in a fresh way that kept me turning the pages to find out more about the universe being built. Perfect for a quick read to escape into.
3 sweet stories featuring a merman, a centaur and a djinn. Gonna say I liked the centaur story best. The merman one was a little sad with the brother and the mermaids were down right creepy. The djinn one was a bit weird.
These are three cute, sweet love stories. I was hoping for a little bit darker Heros since the title said monsters but they aren’t at all. Just simple, other-than-human, sweet guys.
So I enjoyed the merman book, the centaur book was so so, and the djinn book was alright. Maybe books with instalove with in a day is just not for me. 🤷🏽♀️
This is an excellent series!!!!!! I love the characters and the emotional pull you get from each story. You can’t help but fall in love with each character!!!!
This isnt the kind of book I like, but I cant rate a book based on my personal tastes. It's well written though kind of short. You will most likely be please if this is your kinda thing.
