Julie Ryan is an inventor, entrepreneur, medical intuitive and psychic whose learned skills have helped many families understand the glorious side of the dying process. This process involves angels, multitudes of deceased family and friends, the spirits of deceased pets, and countless serendipitous (and miraculous) moments that are all part of a prescribed series of events she calls the Twelve Phases of Transition™. During what is normally an incredibly heart-wrenching time, families almost always experience profound comfort once Julie describes what’s happening from the perspective of the spirit world—including which spirits and deceased pets from the “other side” have come to assist the dying person, what the person needs and whether they are in pain (when they can’t talk for themselves), and how close they are to actually passing. The information Julie coveys brings peace at a time that seems filled with anything but peace, and a new way for those left behind to embrace life through what they learn about the experience of death. Reading the remarkable, heartwarming, and even amusing stories in this book will change your life.
I heard Julie Ryan being interviewed by Christiane Northrup on Hay House Radio, just randomly as I was preparing dinner one evening, and what she had to say made me stop and listen numerous times, as some of the things she said, either were familiar to me or I was specifically interested to hear. In particular, one of the women who called in and asked her about how what she intuits manifests for someone who is gone in an instant and not progressively over time.
I found her experiences and explanations extremely interesting, reassuring and grounded. It seems seredipitous to have stumbled across this at the same time as I am slow reading and studying with Felicity Warner Sacred Oils, who in addition to having a special relationship to certain essential oils in a sacred/soulful way, also trains people in what she refers to as Soul Midwifery, also the author of The Soul Midwives' Handbook: The Holistic and Spiritual Care of the Dying.
What a beautiful book! Thank you, Thank you Julie. This book brought back some of those hard memories of the Dina days of my mom however it brought tears of joy as well. I knew she wasn’t alone and this confirmed it. What a peace this brought me knowing how many Angels were with here. I’m still dealing grieving her however this book does help take away some of the pain. I highly recommend anyone who’s afraid of death or who’s grieving to read this book. It truly is a gift.
I read this book after my grandmother died a few months ago. This book was so helpful and provided so much comfort in the grief period as well as knowing she is in a better place now. I love this book and would definitely recommend it!
Julie Ryan doesn't fit into any stereotype of a psychic healer or a coach for transitioning into death. This makes her book intriguing. What happens when a successful businesswoman, an inventor of medical equipment and serial entrepreneur, with feet firmly planted on the ground, is drawn into the world of energy healing? At first, very little. A Reiki initiation and three years of Auric Healing training left her with an ability to see intermittently " colors, images, shapes, and energy fields" and occasionally heal others. But then things begin to take off. Going on to an advanced course, she begins to see " internal body parts like organs, bones, ligaments, and blood vessels" which feels to her like " a big screen TV in my head … looking at CT-scans, x-rays, and MRIs". She learns to do body scans where she recognizes patterns of diseases and their location (like cancer, viral and bacterial infections, blocked arteries and broken bones). She believes that rather than learning specific techniques, her ability developed slowly and organically after absorbing certain energy frequencies from her teachers. In her opinion, anyone with an open mind and the persistence to release the need for specific outcomes, can learn energy healing. While receiving a healing from her teacher, Julie begins to see the holographic forms of spirits, "usually dressed in clothing from the time they lived" who communicate with her telepathically" seeming to go about their business in a normal manner as though multiple realities—mine in this world and theirs in their world—exist at the same time". Over the years she develops the ability to remotely scan people (with their permission) situated anywhere in the world. Witnessing her mother's final moments, she notices what seems like a bright white bubble attached to her head, and for the first time she observes the gathering of angels and spirits of loved ones as she approaches death. After observing many deaths, Julie came to the conclusion that there are twelve stages of transition to death starting with the exit of the spirit from the body and its attachment to the top of the head. In the second phase the parents (or grandparents if the parents are still alive) arrive and the mother or (grandmother) "is always the one to direct the show in the spirit world". In the third phase guardian angels arrive and form a circle to aid the transition process. In the following phases the spirits of extended family and friends and then pets arrive while the circle turns into a horseshoe open at the head. Then the spirits of many people appear coming from different times and cultures – and in period dress. Eventually a vortex is created with a strong upward pull and the spirit (now a hologram of a human form) detaches from the crown chakra and flies up to the right accompanied by two angelic escorts. She insists that nobody dies alone and that this process always takes place whether death is instant or drawn out – since time in the spirit world is different to ours. Julie Ryan assists the dying, by asking them psychically three questions : are you ready to go?, are you in pain? and what do you need? She also alleviates the fears of her dying patients by taking them on a dress rehearsal of the dying process so that they can learn what to expect . There are a number of interesting case studies in this book. Julie Ryan summaries her life "as an amazing ride". This book will capture your attention.
1. THE 12 PHASES OF TRANSITIONING: Phase 1: Our spirit naturally leaves and reenters our bodies throughout our lives. Often at night when we have dreams about flying.
Phase 2: Parents Arrive The closest Maternal relative comes first. The maternal spirit is always positioned at the left foot of the person who is dying, while the paternal spirit is always positioned at the right foot.
Phase 3: angels arrive Guardian angels arrive. Big 6 to 7 feet tall and they’re dressed in white flowing gowns. They all have long blonde hair that falls in soft ways to their shoulders and they all look the same, they’re unisex. (*Based on catholic teachings and painting depictions).
Angels aren’t physical they don’t truly have human-like characteristics. They just appear a certain wave to us because it’s what we expect and what we understand.
The parents are the anchor. The angels come to facilitate the transition from human physical form into purely spiritual non-physical form.
Phase 4: angels form a horseshoe. The maternal spirit remains focused on the dying person. These mother spirits always perform with an intensity of focus. Deceased mothers organize everything in the spiritual transition process as well.
Phase 5: Additional angels guard the spirit
Two additional angels appear with the guardian angels. These two angels are instrumental and helping the person's spirit leave their body. These angels eventually escort the dying person's spirit to heaven.
Phase 6: spirits arrive Spirits of extended family and friends begin to appear.
The deceased spouse will appear to the right of the mother spirit. All of the deceased spouse's lineup and positions are welcome to the Heaven committee.
Phase 7 animal spirits arrive Spirits of all the pets the person had during this lifetime. Their group is to the right of the person‘s bed. This pet sound may include any kind of animal.
Phase 8: horseshoe expanse
Phase 9: many spirits arrive Many spirits are in the room. They look like regular people, both male and female. They are from many different times and cultures and periods of dress. All spirits appear in a form that can be recognized.
Phase 10: vacuum forms and a hole opens. The horseshoe continues to open, almost in a straight line. Two angels on either side of the spirit bubble start to move. An opening begins to appear above the patient’s head. That’s when death is close.
The movement of the angels' wings creates an opening in the crown shock on top of the head and produces a vacuum, that helps the spirit separate from the body. The angel wings create lift and cause of vortex or vacuum to form. The vacuum is key because it helps the person’s spirit attach to their body.
Phase 10: vacuum forms and a hole opens
Phase 11: angels form a line
As the hole opens wider, the upward pole becomes increasingly more intense
Phase 12: spirit to Heaven the grand exit. As the spirit emerges through the crown chakra on top of the head and disconnects from the body, it and its two angelic escorts are all facing frontwards. The person's spirit is always taken up to the right.
2. NO ONE DIES ALONE: - there’s a huge crowd of spirits gathered at every death to assist the person with their transition. - This is true for every type of death, no matter how long or quick.
3. LEAVE NEGATIVITY: - When a person's spirit leaves the body, all the negative emotions in the behavior of the human experience stay with the human body.
The dying person is aware of the spiritual happenings going on in the room. It’s completely normal for the dying person to talk about seeing the deceased, loved ones, angels, or sometimes even a religious figure like Jesus, Buddha, or Krishna.
When people hover between life and death, they’re in somewhat of a middle ground between two realities. This enables them while they’re still alive to begin to perceive the spirit world.
When we acknowledge our children’s observations of psychic phenomena and encourage them to hound their ability, they will eventually learn to use the skill and service to themselves and others.
It’s important to tell you’re dying loved one what’s important to you or anything you believe could be important to them.
Prayer: in Paradisum prayer, exactly described.
When I see a lot of spirits in the room, I know many people are praying for that patient. After all, prayer is a way of focusing energy, and when a group of us is focused on a common situation/goal, it can have a profound effect.
The success of the surgery doesn’t depend on the intervention of angels and spirits. They are there for emotional support. It is affected by the patient’s free will, and by how the outcome of the surgery is meant to play out in the patient’s life story from a much brighter viewpoint.
Even when we think the end is imminent, when we’re certain our loved ones will die any minute, it doesn’t always happen the way we expect. Life, as well as death, is still filled with surprises.
Life is fleeting, so enjoy it.
Our spirits, along with God, have a bigger plan for us in this human experience than we can ever imagine.
There are no mistakes, just experiences on our learning curve.
Since there aren’t any permanent outcomes, we all have the ability to get it better next time. It says if we live in an environment of eternal redemption.
It’s our mission to create and learn from those creations.
The possibilities are endless.
We are spirits in human form. And we are here to learn how to treat one another with kindness and respect.
I really enjoy listening to Julie's podcast, and actually found out about her via researching NDEs and hospice care while my dad was passing away. Her book describes how she learned "woo-woo", as well as how she sees how our spirits transition during our time of leaving our earthly bodies. She also shares several experiences of how she was able to help families as their loved ones transitioned. It is a book of comfort (her words - and I agree).
This was well written. As someone not of a particular religious faith, this still really resonated and made things make far more sense for myself and my family. I cried, I laughed a bit, and it put me in touch with my family more. We've connected in a different way now and having discussed family members passings this has helped to alleviate any tensions or anxieties, and instead allowed for some peace. It's also a pleasant way to understand mortality, and how valuable we all are. I liked this.
Julie has had the most interesting life. I am in awe of all the things she has done in her lifetime. This is an awesome read for those that want to understand the process of spirit leaving the body. Julie explains in detail the process in which the spirit leaves in body and how she has been able alleviate the anxiety and concerns of those that are dying. Julie is truly spiritually gifted.

I have read many, many books on this topic and this one left me much more informed and relieved about the afterlife and how we enter into it. Not ready to go yet but when I do, I won't be afraid and will look forward to being with my family, friends and cats.
I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this book but I have to tell you that I really feel comforted knowing what happens when someone begins to transition. It’s amazing work that Julie Ryan is doing - such a gift to provide to people.
I read this ebook on my flight up to see Mom after she passed earlier this morning. I feel that some of my thoughts are confirmed and feel more at peace.
The book is very easy and quick to read. It’s like having a regular conversation with a friend. Impressed with Julies abilities and the light she has brought to many. Definitely bring comfort to know what to expect when passing on.
Loved it. If you have an open mind and understand that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience as humans, you will find great comfort and peace with death and dying. I encourage everyone to read it.

I loved this book, I think it is so comforting to people that has had a close loved one pass. Also helped me more with the fear of dying . I wished I could ha e read this before my dad died.
A very easy read. Truly heightening and comforting regarding death. Discusses the dying process and what you see and who you see during the process. The author shares her personal experiences as a witness during the dying process.
Some of this book I enjoyed l, near the end some of the stories got a little too out there for me. But some of this from a higher perspective was fascinating.
I work as a medium, so I've been able to communicate with spirits on the other side as well as spirits in the dying process for a long time. Julie's book taught me even more about the dying process, each of the 12 stages, and put into words elements of the process that I've seen in my own intuitive readings for clients, reconfirming a lot of what I believe to be true.
Since I finished this book, my readings have changed in that I noticed that spirits now tell me the specific stage of the process they are in by number. It has been so helpful to me to be able to divide the process into 12 clear stages when I connect with a departing loved one. It is helpful for my clients who want to understand how it works and check in on loved ones who may be unable to physically speak for themselves. Highly recommended.
Fast read that I obviously enjoyed. The 12 phases of transition I found most interesting. I recommend this book if anyone has a fascination death. I like who all will be standing guard at my death according to this author.
Very interesting. Julie Ryan reports that she can see the spirits who surround us at the time of death. She describes their arrival through what she defines as the twelve stages of death.
