Judy Press has an uncanny understanding of how to inspire preschoolers' creative spirits. Instructions are bare minimum, and resulting art is very clever as kids' imaginations take flight with simple materials and only a hint of direction.
With more than 80 projects grouped by the main action such as glue, clay, dough, paint, paper, markers and crayons, there is sure to be something your young child will want to do.
Each project begins with a short four line poem about the subject matter. It is followed by the list of items needed, and then the instructions. Each project also has a small illustration, and some helpful tips to expand the fun.
The book is written in simple attractive colours, with one project per page. They seem really easy to do. Looking through the options, I do think most of them are too complicated for age 2. I would suggest the book is aimed more for ages 3-6. That being said, the projects themselves look like they would generate quite a bit of imaginary play.
The Little Hands Art Book is full of ideas to expand an art center in preschool. I have found it helpful in writing lesson plans with the list of materials and easy instructions to follow to make putting new projects in the art center quick and easy. I have also found that ideas in this book are easy to modify to meet the needs to the preschool class that I am working with and add variety to the art center with simple changes that make a big difference in learning outcomes. It is an excellent resource for beginning preschool teachers to help them organize the art center and keep activities moving smoothly.
This book had great ideas and suggestions for art projects for preschoolers. They were a little advanced for where Cannon's at (1 year) so I'll definitely be referencing this again in the upcoming years.
