Rain fell against the roof and the windowpanes, sealing them in together in their den of antiques and crumbling books and the nail polish bottles lined up in the dormer ledges. It was all so ordinary and human; the only monsters were them, just the way he liked it.
**A short story prelude for Lauren Gilley’s new Sons of Rome Series: a character-driven paranormal series with historical and contemporary storylines. Book one, White Wolf, releases later this year.**
This author hypnotizes me with her stories. Every. Single. Time!
Okay, so I was initially a little bit skeptical about this story and the direction it would take, but this literary treat proved to be a fantastic peek at what's to come for White Wolf! The only thing that niggled at me a bit was the term of endearment Fulk used to address Anna. His use of the word "darling" instantly transported me back to LG's Dartmoor series and to one of my other favorite characters, Ian/ Shaman, so that was a bit of a distraction since Ian addressed Tango similarly. Otherwise, this was a fantastic start to another highly anticipated series!
Blood, blood, blood A really good beginning for a new paranormal series. There are werewolves and vampires. Fulk, a 750 years old wolf, will wake (reluctantly I have to say) Vladimir, a powerful vampire. I am looking forward to seeing the world building.
November 2017 -- Read again to prep for White Wolf ...
07/21/2017 -- 5 Stars
I have all sorts of rules for myself when I read. Stuff that I've learned over time and if I deviate, I'm usually disappointed. Here's a few:
1 -- Short stories suck. Just when you really start to love the story, the characters, the flow, SLAM. Done. Hate that. So, I stay away.
2 -- Never read a book or series until the first 2 or 3 are out. And DEFINITELY, do not read a short story intro without having at least the next full installment available.
3 -- PNR is okay, but if there is something else you want to read, read it first. There really are too few really good PNR out there, to feed your next obsession, so go in cautiously and slowly. Plus, remember silly girl, you've read all the good stuff .. and more than once!
So, when I saw this little short, from one of my most favorite authors, I hesitated for about a half second before cracking it open. Now what do I do? I really liked it. I have a glimpse of where she is going with this concept and I seriously like it. I was just starting to dig the characters and .. now what?
*sigh* .. I should have stuck to my rules. Now, I'm going to have to wait and I'm not a patient person. I'll just not think about it after telling you about it. No more thoughts from me, so don't ask me to stray. I just need to focus on something else. Maybe I'll start Fearless over again for the umpteenth time. CRAP!
My first Gilley! 🙈 I have to say I love her storytelling, hope it stays that good in those full-length books! I really liked this little teaser (and the growly werewolf sex, of course), this looks like an amazing series. 🤞🏻
Against my better judgement because I have no patience so don't normally read cliffhangers or teasers I nabbed The Stalker because it's Lauren Gilley. It was interesting, intense, and drew me in then it just stopped. I'm disappointed and want more at the same time. Can't wait until the book releases.
A non-YA PNR series by Lauren Gilley? Oh yeah, I'm in! This little prelude teaser is about a fun, sexy couple that happen to be very old werewolves and a terminally misguided (evil?) scientist attempting to awaken a pair of vampire brothers (as in Vlad the Impaler-type guys) supposedly for the medicinal qualities in their blood.
I wasn't sure if a non-biker series by Lauren would hold my interest, but it did. I will pre-order Book One 'White Wolf' as soon as it's available.
This mini-novella or short story is a taster/ prequel to Lauren Gilley's new pnr series Sons Of Rome. The first book, White Wolf is coming out later this year.
The Stalker is a quick read (27 pages LOL), but quite gripping. We meet two ancient werewolves who are living quietly as humans in modern USA, keeping to themselves. Then we find out that there are going to be vampires involved in this world. It's pretty scary, actually. The last line of the story is a doozie.
While I'm not normally a fan of vampire fiction or film, I will definitely read at least the first book when it comes out. Come on, it's Lauren Gilley! I love her motor cycle series. She can really write.
As a teaser, this is a highly successful little story. You just want more..........
A very intriguing and fascinating short story prelude for Lauren Gilley’s new Sons of Rome Series. A character-driven paranormal series with historical and contemporary storylines. Book #1, White Wolf, will be released soon. « She was only going to get one chance to run, and when it came, she would have to take it. Until then, she settled in, and pretended not to notice him. » I. Can’t. Wait.
Happy reading!

3.5 stars. A really cool short story to set up Lauren Gilley's new paranormal series, Sons of Rome. A sexy wolf shifter and his true mate get ready to wake up the famous vampire, Vlad. This does end on a cliffhanger, but it was a great start to the series! Can't wait for more!
Although it was very short it was interesting and intriguing. This is a whole different ballgame from the MC series that I love. Werewolves, Vampires....what's not to love. Looking forward to the next in line.
Overall Rating :: 5 stars Series :: Prelude to Sons of Rome series. POV :: Alternating. Cliffhanger :: Nope.

The start of another Lauren Gilley series? Paranormal? Good grief, sign me right up! What a fantastic way to whet my appetite for the Sons of Rome. I can't even. And I'm already in love with Anna and Fulk. Love!
Argh. I absolutely hate it when I do this....rush into a prelude or ‘book #1’ without looking to see that the series already has several books published. As with all avid readers, I HATE waiting! Hate...hate...hate! and this series promises to be fabulous if this prelude is any indication. Argh. Humpf.
A good introduction to the series, ahead. I had planned to jump right into White Wolf after finishing this one, but decided to hold off for now. I have to be in the mindset for PNR, etc., and right now, I'm not there. Plus, I go through Lauren Gilley's books like candy, so I might wait for the second one to come out.
This is a short novella introducing a brand new series from Lauren, something to wet your appetite for great things to come, can't wait for later in the year when we get the first book x
Vampires and werewolves, and a possible sinister government connection. I'm looking forward to the first book. Take a chance with something new from a excellent author.
Grab my interest with anticipation. Love Lauren Gilley books especially the Dartmoor series ,so looking forward to a new paranormal series in the manner of writing that LG can only do.
This introduction to Gilley's new paranormal series just has me excited to read the first book. She has a great way of drawing you effortlessly into a story and this novella is no exception. Can't wait to see it all unfold.
Lauren Gilley's synopsis of this book is better than some "author's" entire books! She has a way with words that just suck me right in every time. I love her Lean dogs series and I know I will love this one as well. Can't wait for more!
I am more than ready for this story to continue. Take danger, suspense, romance, and add history and mix it all together by Lauren Gilley, what's not to love. I have a good feeling this story will be EPIC.
Not sure if I will read the series...paranormal stuff is usually not my type of things. It has nothing to do with the writing, it's just that I can't quite make myself forget about realism enough to accept things like vampires and werewolves ect.
I LOVE Lauren Gilley's writing. I am not normally a paranormal reader. I'm not really sure what the genre is, but shifters and vampires are not my usual reading repertoire. I swear in 27 pages, she had me hooked. She's that good! Now on to White Wolf...
It’s very short and included in the main book. Luckily I read that in another review and didn’t waste any money. I liked this character and the lighthearted love between the two MC’s. Celebrating his 750th birthday 🙃
