She left him at the altar, but the devil is making him keep his promise.
Destiny is calling Chris, yet someone forgot to give him an instruction manual on conquering the world. Being the Antichrist is all well and good, but how is he supposed to know how to bring about Armageddon? He’s still waiting for his army of minions, the glory, the riches. And where is the respect?
You’d think any woman would be ecstatic at the thought of marrying the future ruler of the world.
Not Isobel.
She keeps spouting things like “forced to get married,” “love me for myself, not because Daddy made you.”
It doesn’t help that his psychotic mother with a penchant for playing with dead things has taken an interest. However, having her henchman of the apocalypse attempt to kidnap him isn’t the way to get in his good graces.
Things are starting to get complicated on Earth. Dark forces are rising, Chris’s powers are still developing—and he’s pretty sure his dad, Lucifer, wants him dead. What’s the destroyer of the world to do?
Point him to the nearest bar. This calls for more beer.
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
A tingle of awareness had him looking up as Isobel entered the room, beautiful as always, arousing a desire unlike any he'd ever experienced. Igniting a deep need. Would he set the world on fire if it meant having the power to keep her? The world probably wouldn't like his reply.
Book 2 in the Hell's Son series was better than I expected. I'm already a big fan of Eve Langlais and both series that are set in this world. This series is a nice addition.
"Being the antichrist isn't all about getting laid and drunk." Which really blew. What exactly were the perks again? Oh, yeah, eventual world domination.
I like Chris, and I liked him in this book more than the first. He's starting to grow up a bit. I mean he's still cocky, self-absorbed, and a little petulant when things don't go his way. But he's realizing how important Isobel is to him. He's also starting to seriously question if his destiny, the one he's been told all his life is his birthright, is something that he really wants.
"Can you tell me how you get them to do that? Because I'm supposed to be the Adversary, the King of Fierce Countenance, and yet I can't even get the barmaid to bring me a beer without her expecting a tip." And, apparently, promising to anoint them with his precious cream wasn't considered bonus enough. ~ Being in Hell made him wonder why he wanted to fight to rule it. Do I really want to live in the Pit forever? Not without proper air conditioning he didn't.
I like Isobel more this time around, too. She really starts to grow a backbone and stops letting her family dictate her life. She also starts to really trust Chris and believe in his feelings for her.
She drove, which meant Christopher sulked. "It's emasculating having you drive me everywhere." "It's my car." "When I inherit the Earth-" "When you get your license and your own car, then you can drive me around. Until then…" ~ Isobel advanced on him with a smile. "We will, after all, be family. Which means family dinners and celebrations. A card on Father's Day. Thoughtful gifts at Christmas and lots of heartfelt hugs." She reached for him with open arms, and Lucifer gagged as he stumbled back. "Woman! Call the chit off me. What is wrong with the girl? I expected better from Rasputin's spawn." Mother's lips twitched. "I am just as appalled as you, Dark Lord."
As always, Lucifer is delightfully ridiculous. And Goshen was a nice addition, I hope we see more of him in the next book.
"A married Baphomet is a disgrace to the name. Bad enough that I have one daughter who won't give up her cherry. I don't need a son who's married and monogamous to make me look bad, too." "Just imagine all the legitimate children we will have," Isobel stressed with a smirk. "Not a single bastard born out of wedlock." "Ack." Lucifer made an inverted cross with his middle fingers. "What is wrong with you? Don't say such things."
My only major problem is with the timeline. This series is supposed to have taken place before both Princess of Hell and Welcome to Hell series. But some events seem to be running concurrently while others are taking place in the future. It's explained away by Lucifer being able to "time warp" taking him to future events, that actually take place in the Princess of Hell books. It's not really a problem, but it makes it kind of confusing. Especially since I was under the impression this book is taking place "in the recent past", making me think, ok, maybe a decade or so ago. But then, Isobel has to explain to Chris what an encyclopedia is by comparing it to Wiki. I mean, Chris is supposed to be in his twenties, he should know what an encyclopedia is. Maybe that's just me though, and my interpretation of the timeline was off from the beginning. It bugged me, but not enough to really take me out of the story.
Christopher smiled. They were delicious, however… "It will take more than a few pinches of opium to put me out. My mother used to lace my bottles with it as a baby because I was colicky." "That is seriously wrong," Isobel mentioned, approaching with a shake of her head. "Who does that to their kid?" He shrugged. "I didn't mind. And I turned out alright." "Matter of opinion," Isobel coughed into her hand.
So all in all, it was fun and I already bought book 3. I love Eve Langlais and I'll read just about anything she writes.
"For he is the Wicked One, the Destroyer of Nations, the King of Fierce Countenance. At his coming, the armies of dark and light will sweep the land. Scouring it clean. Remaking the world in a new vision. For he is darkness against the light. The shield against the fiery sword. The King that Cometh." The woman turned to look at Isobel and, with pupils the size of a spinning galaxy, added, "And you shall be his queen, the strength behind the throne. The mother of the future." ~ "I am not going anywhere. Why would I when the most important thing in my life is standing right in front of me?" He sprang from the bed that he might place himself before her. Just a man, with a destiny, blue balls, and a need to make his woman believe him. He dropped to his knees before her. "I'm tired of letting others tell me what to do. This is where I want to be." With Isobel, he felt the strength and peace previously lacking in his life.
So this is the second book in Eve Langlais’ Hell’s Son series. It picks up at the end of the first book, Lazy Son. If you aren’t familiar with this series, it is set in the same hilarious world as Princess of Hell and Welcome to Hell series. You don’t have to have read either of those series to read this one, but you will get some cameos and easter eggs if you’ve read them.
So this series is told from the POV of Christopher, the Antichrist, son of Lucifer. He wasn’t raised by his biological mother, because she was hiding him from Lucifer. He was given to a woman and he was worshiped as the Prince of Hell. The “mother” who raised him is in prison now for murdering her boyfriend (in her defense, the boyfriend tried to poison Chris when he was only 10).
Isobel is granddaughter of the infamous wizard, Rasputin. She is a witch and has been wearing a magical chastity belt. Her grandfather had a bet with Lucifer, and Rasputin has to provide Lucifer with a virgin to wed. Lucifer decides to weasel out of it by making Chris marry her. They both know they are being coerced into a marriage, but neither knows who the other person is. That is until they meet at the end of the aisle and the veil is raised. This does not sit well with Isobel.
This is another really funny addition to this world that Eve has created. I’m a huge fan of Lucifer. He is just great, but I love all the characters around him too. There is some suspense as Chris tries to complete the impossible task which Isobel has put in front of him. His biological mother is messing with things too. Chris is pulled in different directions as people are trying to prevent or cause the apocalypse. I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here for Isobel and Chris.
Narration This is the second book I’ve listened with Tyler Donne (the first being Lazy Son). I like his voices for the characters. I think his pacing is great. I just feel like he could bring out the humor in the book more. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but there are narrators who really bring out the humor in a story (Abby Craden and Tillie Hooper have done this for other Eve series). He isn’t bad at all. I would just like to see a little more emotion and humor in his telling.
**I like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
If I think of this as more of a comedy than a romance, I guess I enjoy it more. I can't imagine these two being together. I'm pretty sure in the first book, Chris says he is almost 30. Isobel is around the same age but the way they talk and act it's like an 18/19 year old romance and that's another reason I don't like the book.
Just a lot of immaturity and humor that I don't find humorous when I'm supposed to be routing for a couple. Like blow jobs from other women, talking like she owes him sex for saving her life. There is a bunch of that kind of "humor" in the book. It's dry, which normally I like but not in this sense.
focusing on background story, it's getting a lot more interesting but I'm not interested in any of the characters personalities. They are evil, yes. But I've read plenty of books where I fall in love with the villain. This book doesn't make me do that, I'm pretty much grimacing for a lot of the dialogue.
You need to read Lazy Son before reading this for the best understanding as this story is a continuation from that book. Much better for me than book one which I struggled a bit with due to the time overlap. I have not yet read the Princess of Hell books but will be doing so soon. Found the action better in this book and the different threads from the other series was extremely well done, all that pulling and weaving was fantastic. Liked the interaction between Isabelle and Chris, found it becoming stronger the more they did together. Loved that Chris was the one who actually ended up wanting to wait for their wedding night. What a funny turnaround. The scenes with Goshen were so good, especially in the family home. Will be awaiting the next book to see what is going to happen.
Hell hath no fury like a scorned groom. Wait what?
I absolutely love this series. Chris is left at the alter by his bride. He thinks she should be happy throwing herself at him but oh no he looks like a fool in front of everyone. Lol will guys never learn? Even the Prince of Hell should no better. Isobel just wants to marry for love is that to much to ask for, somebody who wants her for herself not because they are a part of some stupid bet. Can Isobel get Chris to see that all she wants is love? Can Chris finally get that darned chastity belt off before he dies of blue balls? Can these two make it to the alter before the angles, witches, and horsemen kill them both?
Second book was real good. I love everything about this series. I do however think that Chris thinks too much about sex. Not that I blame him. Sex is great but it's at times where there is no need for that. But it just makes it more funny.
I am most curious about Lucifer his daughter. Not Bambi , the other one (Forgot her name for a moment). I don't have much interest in Bambi. While it sounds like much pleasure, a woman should not throw herself at anything that walks on two legs.
Lucifer is .. interesting? I don't know. I like him but I also don't like him. He wants his son dead, but does he really? That's my dilemma. I don't reject bad things or bad people (I heard this in a song and loved it : Good boys go to heaven but bad boys bring heaven to you.) But yeah , it's still unsure how I feel about him. PS: If you're looking for a read devil, read the Grimm awakening series and The seven deadly from the author Michelle Gross. Just love him (and the two series) and his story is not quite over yet. It's not even been told, he just entered a few times and spiked interest. Can't wait to read his story !!
And then we have his mother …. Who the hell is she supposed to be? Seeing as there are so many different told stories about the devil and his wife or whatever , I have no idea. Is it Lillith? Is it someone else? Who is so evil they had to lock her up? I watched a show called Supernatural and in one season they had to fight of an evil escaped from her prison but there she was God's sister so I know it won't be her because that would be gross. This book does not really follow the common religion rules considering God and Lucifer are brothers here while in 'reality' they are father and son but I don't criticize. I am a huge fan of books about angels and demons and destiny and good and wrong and forbidden because blah blah blah so again, Love this series !
Author did an amazing job writing these series and I WILL be reading her other works ..
Book two in the Hell’s Son series picks up where we left off in Lazy Son – Chris has been left by Isobel at the altar, after both were surprised by who they were marrying. Unfortunately, Chris has given Isobel the impression that he was ‘fine’ getting hitched to anybody, instead of being upset that it wasn’t her. No one said she was logical!
Isobel escapes the church and runs for her freedom. When she gets back home, she decides that she’s through being the good daughter – much to her mother’s displeasure. Chris is trying to get back into her good graces. He loves her, but how to make her believe it when he is having trouble believing it himself? The Antichrist doesn’t deal with *ick* emotions and *gag* feelings. She wants him to do something heroic to win her back – the son of Lucifer has got his work cut out for him!
A trip to New Orleans, epic battles, a Hell Hound with questionable timing, the magical chastity belt, and of course fighting against Mommy’s horsemen; this is a non-stop ride. Chris has to determine his fate, and decide whether to fulfill the prophecy he’s been taught his entire life, or build a different future with his duckie, his queen. Can’t wait for Hell’s King!!
When the King of Hell, witchy potential in-laws and the undead have you by the short and curlies, what’s a Jilted Prince to do? Become a Knight in Brimstone armor and go after his girl of course!
When Lucifer tricks his son into marriage, Chris is pleasantly surprised, more or less, to discover the bride is non-other than his wanna be lover, Isobel. But Isobel is a witch not to settle! She wants to marry for love, and has been waiting for her hero to rescue her from an unwanted marriage. But when she sees the shock on Chris’ face that he was to marry her, she runaway brides his butt, leaving him surprisingly speechless at the alter! How dare she turn down the Prince of Darkness! But after seeing her flee, Chris is determined to prove to Isobel that she is the witch for him, and goes on a quest to help her find her dead (or undead) father. But pesky obstacles in the form of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse cause Chris and Isobel to realize their powers are stronger together…mayhap stronger than their families would like.
Eve Langlais has once again made this reader highly anticipate the next installment of the Hell’s Son series! I’ll forever be #TeamLucifer, but never has cheering on the Devil’s son felt so wrong, yet sooooo right! You won’t want to miss this one! Highly recommend!
Jilted at the wedding alter by the one woman he would happily marry Chris is on the hunt for his run away bride.
Starting with Isobel leaving Chris at the alter before a run through a swamp and a battle with a swamp monster, and that’s only in the first couple of chapters. This book I full of Ms Langlais trademark humour with plenty some action and fighting. I really, really enjoyed reading this one and just devoured it.
This is the second book in the saga that is Isobel and Chris and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It is a stand alone series but I think you’ll get more out of the story if you’ve read the welcome to hell series, hells princess series and wickedest witch. They’re all stand alones but there are a few interconnecting events that had me going “oh my goodness I remember that, hehe”.
Will need to get book 1 in the series . Love her story. This is the 4 one in audio. Have a lots in ebook and paperback . Hero is Chris. (Son of the underworld god ). Heroine is Isabel . Isabel got the jitters on her wedding day and she bolted Chris doesn’t know what to do to get her back. Even though he’s lucifer son he loves her. Love how Eve takes God’s from the underworld and gives them human qualities. They are looking for love ; happiness and someone by their side . Isabel’s mother is totally against this Match and she is determined to put Chris through the wringer. Lucifer is not to happy himself
The narrator was great. He changed his voice perfectly
Jilted Prince continues the epic story of Christopher, son of the Devil, and Isobel, granddaughter of the infamous wizard Rasputin. They’re on a combined quest to find her father, while internally they’re both figuring out how they really feel about each other. This book has so many awesome characters and so many settings, it’s a good thing Langlais has so many spinoff books to let you keep exploring them all! With the inclusion of magic and the four horses of the apocalypse, I definitely got some “Full Metal Alchemist” vibes from this story... but instead of a large tin brother we get Goshen :)
loved this one... eve langlais is absolutely hillarious and she always delivers. Chris is still arogant and frustrating hut his feelings for Isobel balance that out. you don't have to be a great virtuous person to be a hero in someone's eyes and with Chris at least trying to do something for Isobel.. instead of just being selfish.. he became her hero. soooo sweet. I can not wait to read the next one and see what happens with his mother.. creepy female... so I definitely recommend this one but you really need to read them in order to understand what's going on.
Now Christopher has a Ducky. Yes, the same girl he had museum adventures with.
She has this magical chastity belt which is very frustrating.
And after running off initially at the idea of marriage, she agrees to marry Chris, but only if her father can walk her down the aisle. The missing or is he dead, father.
And so the adventure begins.
A fun, flirty story with lots of strange happenings in Hell and elsewhere. A nicely written series running alongside the original Hell series and filling i some of the gaps, as well as opening up good potential for yet more characters' stories.
This just kept getting better and better! From “no way” to “outta my way” Christopher came to terms with how much he wanted, no, he needed Isobel to be with him. All the wildness, all the craziness, all the supernatural powers for and against them, and their love for each other was always their driving force. The characters around them, well, they made for some great laughs, but they also made for some really touching moments. Of course, this is book two of a trilogy and that cliff hanger has me rushing onto the next one!
I LOVED jilted prince! Chris and Isobel’s love story took a surprising turn at the end of Lazy Prince, and book 2 started off with a great big BANG! We jumped into the story, right where it left off, and took off running... through swamps, on big “dogs”, from evil voodoo priestess’, and from a disembodied (possibly imaginary) voice. I loved every second of Jilted Prince, and still haven’t gotten over that surprise twist at the end!
I absolutely loved the continuation to Chris and Isobel's story. Chris is still as clueless as ever but he starting to recognize his true potential and finally take control of his fate. I loved every moment of the Jilted Princes, from the hilarious banter between Chris and his dad Lucifer oh also sister Bambi. Wasn't expecting that surprise twist in the end overall enjoyable and entertaining looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
The second book in a three act trilogy sees Chris (Son of Satan) jilted at the altar. After a spectacular bout of self pity, then attempts to get his Bride back. Does Chris succeed, even when faced with a considerable amount of obstacles in his path? Is there's happy ever after? Read the book and see for yourself
Another incredible book from Eve Langlais showcasing her unstoppable imagination and awesome sense of humor. Lucifer's son Christopher is destined to become the Antichrist. Isobel is the girl he wants at his side, but between Lucifer, Rasputin and Chris's unknown mother, chaos seems to follow their every move. Loved it!!
The Hell series are awesome and the princes tales are a fitting addition to the family legacy! If your looking for a fun and magically twisted new read this series is for you! Hells son is a fitting heir for the devils throne, but we shall see if he can truly attain his destiny.. in book 3 that is 😉... Next!
I Can't keep reading, I tried really hard to finish the first, it was torture... But I just couldn't keep reading this one, I don't like both leads, I actually hate them... So after much thought and with a lot of regret, because I really like this author, I'll just re-read the books I already love and stop reading the new ones. Her writing style change too much and it's not for me.
Or is it?? Chris and Isobel are back with all of their family & friends. Absolutely recommend all of this series and the companion series. Eve writes no wrong!
