His sexy new car is about to be released on the market, and a New York Times bestselling book would be the perfect marketing push to get his business to the next level. She gets thrust into a brand new world of A-list red carpet events, meetings with executives, and long nights in the workshop that grow increasingly intimate. But to write a bestseller, Libby needs more. Their connection is off the charts, but she'll need to discover the real Jack--the man behind the inventions, the man who's steadily stealing her heart. Jack has secrets--lots of them--and Libby will do anything to get the scoop. Start Me Up by Maggie Riley had me from the cover, I found myself being drawn to this book that I had to read it and push everything else aside. I was not disappointed and found that I did not want to put it down. I was lost in the story-line and in the characters. It is a quick read that oozes sexiness or was that just me picturing Jack Willis.

Jack Willis needs to find a ghost writer to write his story, this book may have his business all over it but it doesn't reflect the man behind the business- which he is okay with. Jack wants his private life private and will do anything he has to to keep it that way, even if it means pushing a chance at love aside. He never expected that the curvy woman who he has hired as his ghost writer would do anything other than what he wants written. Jack finds himself not being able to get her off his mind, but will he be able to let down his guard and show her aside of him only a few people know?

Libby Hanson can just put a smile on my face just with thinking about her and her love of reading, writing and crocheting. She sounds perfect and that is what Jack thought the minute her interviewed her, that's until she decides the book she is hired to write needs more depth. Libby finds that Jack's story needs a human interest to grab the readers and help make this a bestseller. It what she believes this gorgeous man deserves, but he is not willing to open up. Jack is willing to open up with his business, some of his employees, his bed but not his heart. Will Jack's pride and need to keep his life a secret push Libby away brokenhearted?

I loved everything about Start Me Up, it had me wanting to read fast enough to get to the end and wishing for that HEA. This is another great read by Maggie Riley for me, I found it to be sexy, funny, frustrating at times and it definitely pulls on the heartstrings. I would give it 5 Stars for the cover alone, seriously this is a 5 Star read from me.

Reviewing on behalf of Amo & Sarah's Book Corner.

OMG! This book is amazing - I don't know where to start with my review! Libby, who is struggling financially, finds a new job through her friend Georgia. Georgia helps to set Libby up for an interview that has been found via word of mouth and even as Libby goes into the interview she is still not 100% sure what the job entails. She is gobsmacked to find that she is offered the job on the spot to ghostwrite a biography for her now new boss, Jack, who is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. As a multi-billionaire, Jack is one of New York's most sought after bachelors. Libby has difficulties writing the biography as Jack is very secretive and does not like anyone knowing anything personal about him. For Jack, all he believes people need to know about him is his professional standing and achievements. He also believes that he should not have anything more than a professional relationship with all of his employees and associates. This completely goes out of the window, as he falls deeply for Libby and she feels exactly the same way. However, when she seeks out Jack's best friend Mac, to ask him information about Jack's childhood and what he is like as a friend, Jack reaction is to completely push Libby away as he feels that she has abused his trust and has used their 'relationship' as a way of finding out more information about him. With all the secrets that Jack is obviously trying to hide, Libby feels heartbroken and distraught that maybe she can't trust Jack and whatever is going on between them will not work out. Will they be able to overcome their differences? Will she finish writing the book for Jack? How will he react? So many questions come up all the way through this book that I was totally gripped from the start and unable to put the book down!
There are of course a few sexy scenes, that are so fast paced and well written that they left me breathless as a reader. The sexual chemistry that is portrayed between Jack and Libby is immense and powerful. For me, this book is almost like Bridget Jones meets Christian Gray. It is so romantic and seemingly innocent and yet so erotic and emotionally strong. I absolutely love this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys similar books.

Start Me Up was my first book by Maggie Riley, but after reading this one I'm going to need to go pick up her other ones.

Libby was a character that I loved. She was funny and caring but also not afraid to speak her mind. Jack is definitely on the top of my favorites list too. I really enjoyed getting to read the book from both of their points of view because it made the story that must stronger. Getting to be in the heads of both characters makes me feel like I really know what is going on while reading.

The chemistry that Libby and Jack have is off the charts. I was rooting for them from the beginning but knew Jack was hiding something that would be big. Of course I can't let you know what that something is, but trust me, it is something huge!

There were definitely a few moments that had me on the edge of my seat, unable to stop reading because I had to know what was about to happen. I had all the feels while reading for sure! Not to mention there were a few very steamy moments that went on.

This is a must read book for sure!- Alisa

Start Me Up by Maggie Riley is a quick, fun and flirty billionaire meets writer romance. Great insta-lust interoffice love that was refreshing to read.

Can the big bad millionaire truly have it all or is he just a shell of his true self?

When a new endeavor arises within Jack Willis’s business he takes it upon himself to have a biography written about his self-made fortune. Thinking it will be a top charting book especially after his newest tech car release, he selects Libby Hanson as his ghost writer for the task. She’s perfect. Perfect in the sense she doesn’t fall to his feet like most women do.

Libby is strapped for money and usually writes about manuals, but given the task to write about the ever popular millionaire Jack, she notices that the story needs more oomph, more depth, but Jack is persistent that he’s not willing to open his heart. He is protective of his privacy, so what will it take for him to open up to her?

“[she] seemed to be taking all of the boundaries i had put up to keep myself protected and [she’s] smashing them to dust.”

Can the feisty bombshell crack the closed-off millionaire and open his heart to love?

Great writing by Maggie to entice you just enough to keep turning those pages. You wanted to reach the end to find out if there will be a HEA and to see if Jack truly does open up. Emotions do arise but wonderful moments come from those interactions making it a well developed novel.

Jack is a self made millionaire, he has a reputation for being an astute businessman and is often photographed with beautiful models on his arms. He is very guarded with his personal life and therefore that side of him remains a mystery to everyone except close friends.

Libby has taken on the assignment to write a book about Jack, just in time for his new car release. He thinks it will give him great publicity to release it in conjunction with that. This is not the sort of thing that Libby usually does, she mainly writes things like instruction manuals and a biography about someone is new territory for her.

Libby has never heard of Jack so goes into this with a completely open mind. He pretty much gets her to shadow him in his daily work life. She gets a good feel of his lifestyle but it’s not enough. Everything she has written is just factual and she really needs something personal about him to make the book more personable and interesting.

People need to see the other side of Jack but he is very reluctant to reveal anything about himself. They have pretty much reached a stale mate. However, one thing that is happening is the attraction they are feeling for each other. Jack is a very good looking man but Libby knows she does not look like the women he usually with so brushes off the intense looks and flirtation he seems to be throwing her way.

Jack has good reasons to be protective of his personal life but he is not willing to share why with Libby. He does share his lips and body with her though. Yes, they give in to the attraction between them and Jack is quite overwhelmed by what he is feeling for Libby. For the first time he begins to open up a little to her, very cautiously though.

‘Libby seemed to be taking all of the boundaries I had put up to keep myself protected and smashing them to dust.’

As they move from flirting to dating, Libby enjoys getting to know Jack outside of his business persona, the side she wishes she could show in his book. However, when Jack feels like Libby has crossed the self imposed boundaries he had in place he is quick to put the walls back up to protect himself. Will Jack be able to get past his fears and finally let love into his life?

The blurb for this title caught my interest. I enjoy the office romance trope, and when it is a boss and an employee, this can be a lot of fun, with a side of the forbidden and with dire consequences if they are caught. (Ok, so I am a little twisty, go with it) So, I went into this with a lot of high hopes.

Jake and Libby have interesting chemistry from the beginning, however it is all in their heads. There's nothing acted on, there are scenes where they are nice to one another, but no awkward "almost" moments.

There is not a lot of interaction with them in the romantic or even attraction for a while into the book, but you know how they each feel as their internal dialog gives you the thoughts and feelings for the characters. And, the book really relies only on this internal dialog.

In a way, this made it more of a "tell" rather than a "show" book, which can be a tough read as there is a lot of the characters telling you how they feel but not a lot of emotion to connect to, so there is a lot of the book where you don't feel a lot of connection with the characters. And, I think the book does suffer a little for this lack of showing action. The dialog, both the internal and the spoken, are well done and well written, so there is some advancement of the plot and relationship through thoughts and conversations. The issue is that the thoughts speak of a growing attraction, whereas the dialog is professional, bordering on friendly.

I did like the characters together, and I did believe in their chemistry, although I felt the switch from co-workers to lovers was a little abrupt, again I think because the pre-relationship stuff was all tell and the show started once they got together.

This felt like 2 different books, the before as boss and employee (even though I never really considered her an employee, they needed to meet somehow) and after, once they were involved in the relationship.

For me, the show being in the 2nd act and the tell being in the first left it a little unbalanced. I didn't totally dislike the book, and I did end up enjoying it overall, but I would have liked a little more connection with the characters at the beginning.

“I didn’t deserve her…But I wanted her. I wanted to be the person she imagined me to be.”

I am a sucker for books about authors so when I saw the blurb for this one I had to buy it. Self-made billionaire meets author should make for some interesting reading…right? Well, not if you are Jack Willis. Jack Willis was a man that kept his private life, just that, PRIVATE. No-one knew anything about the man that built his fortune from nothing, was a revered man in his field and one of the most highly sought-after targets for gossip mags and journalists. Hoping to quell the curiosity surrounding himself, Jack hires a ghost writer to write his autobiography, however, not willing to cross those personal lines makes for extremely boring reading, but at least the ghost writer is a helluva lot more entertaining. Maggie Riley delivered a fun, cute read and whatever you do, click the link at the end to get the bonus chapter…sigh.

Libby Hanson was a refreshing character, she had that naturally bubbly, infectious personality and was as laid back as they came. People could take her as she was or not bother at all, what you see is what you got. Libby was honest, didn’t have a negative bone in her body and was loved by everyone, except Jack Willis…or maybe not. Libby was a crafty woman, knitting, macramé etc were her forte and what she normally wrote about. When her best friend sets her up for this interview she doesn’t know what she is signing up for, could this be the best or worst career move that she has ever made?

“…Someone who ignored all my rules. Ignored all my orders. Someone who did what she felt was right, even when I tried to block her at every turn. She knew me.”

Jack Willis was intriguing from the very beginning, while my suspicions about his private life were correct I admired his reasoning behind wanting to keep them private. Jack was a fantastic boss, everyone loved him, he knew the company inside out and from the bottom up. Jack was a hands-on boss trying to deliver something he loved while protecting the environment. Jack’s business ethic was admirable, as was the man. I simply adored him.

The chemistry between these two from the beginning was always simmering, but the more time they spent together the more the spark ignited and while this is a little bit instalove, it didn’t really feel that way. There were a few editing issues which were a little distracting in the beginning but they seemed to dry up as the book progressed so please do not be put off. This was my first read by Maggie Riley and it won’t be my last. Thoroughly entertaining, totally engaging and really enjoyed this authors writing style.

When I saw the blurb for Start Me Up I was intrigued. But once I read a few chapters, I had a hard time keeping my interest. Libby and Jack have chemistry, attraction and passion. With pushing his boundaries, can the Libby write her happy ending?

A ghost writer who writes trade books but when the tough gets going she expands her horizon. And why not start with a millionaire who she had no idea who he is and what he does. Jack is a smart, inventive, structured and likes to work with his hands. But when he is releasing a new environmentally car, a marketing strategy was to write a biography. But he needed help and Libby came to the rescue. Libby is a curvaceous, witty bombshell. She lived life in full color compared to the monochromatic Jack. She brought life to Jack. But he is still wary to open up to her. But with making a deal with Libby , he opens up to his life and also his heart. But with every story, they have ups and downs. Will Jack be able to take the next step?

Well now, isn't Jack a cocky one, “trust me, Ms. Hanson,” he finally said, his voice rich and smooth, “I’m always sure about what I want.” I mean seriously the man oozed cockiness, “don’t be ridiculous,” he held open the door for me. “I hired you, and I’m never wrong about these kind of things.” It was obvious he was a man that wasn’t used to be contradicted." I really liked this book, I loved Jack.

Jack Willis is a hardworking, self-made millionaire. When approached by a publishing company to write a book about himself, he's not initially interested. He knows it’s the juicy, personal stuff that sells but he wants his work to be front and center, keeping his personal life far from prying eyes. He's good at hiding secrets and has some of his own he won't reveal. He’s not interested in letting anyone close enough to know him more than professionally and is especially not interested in a relationship.

Libby Hanson, a writer who focuses mostly on project-based craft books, is in desperate need of money. Therefore, when she hears of a job opportunity, she sets up an interview even though she has virtually no information about the position she is applying for. Usually well prepared, she goes into this interview blind.

When Jack meets Libby, he is surprised that she has no idea who he is. The thought of someone without knowledge of his personal life writing his book makes him more optimistic about the book. He wants to focus on the work side of things and Libby may just be the person to get it done without digging into his past.
My private life was locked up as tight as a vault. No one got in. Not even a sexy, redheaded, curvaceous temptress.

Though he is extremely attracted to her, Jack knows he won’t act on. When Libby is offered the job, she is unable to refuse and she quickly learns what it's like to work for Jack Willis.

This book is a lighthearted, quick read. It’s got the humor and heat that is perfect for a summer read. It has an original plot and fun characters. Libby was sweet and refreshing. I loved her positivity and hardworking nature.  She was just what Jack needed in his life and gave him a fresh take on the world.
I never, ever, mixed business with pleasure. But something about Libby made me want to throw out all my rules.

I loved Jack’s big heart and his passion for the things he cares most about. When it comes to his personal life, Jack only lets the world see what he wants it to see and I understood his stance on his privacy. He learned early on to hide his true emotions, so I found it liberating when he opened up to Libby as she broke down his walls.

There is definitely insta-lust in this story but I thought it was well done. The attraction is so strong that it basically drives them crazy until they can't deny it any longer. It's sweet and sexy, and the sky high tension makes an explosion inevitable.

I guessed what the drama in the book would entail early on and I thought that Jack was a little quick to react. I wanted more explanation as to the reasons why he wanted to remain single. I understand his past but I wanted more back story and think it would have added a deeper, more emotional element to the story.

Overall, it’s a fun, flirty read and I am excited to read more by Maggie Riley.

I must admit that this is my first read from this author and I really enjoyed it. Her main characters, Jack Willis and Libby Henson, are described to be polar opposites, but they really compliment one another.
Jack comes off cold, mechanical, and inpersonal with only seeing things in black and white, but he loves all things to do with machines, vehicles specifically. Growing up in his best friend's father's, Tom, rundown motorcycle shop, Jack and his best friend, Mac, learned everything mechanical from Tom. While Mac rebuilt the motorcycle shop into a success, Jack went on to graduate from MIT and build his business empire, a eco-friendly tech company that specializes in transportation. When his publicist pushes Jack to write a book about himself, Jack is reluctant because he is a very private person, but he does want the book to highlight his forward thinking company and technology so he agrees to hire a ghostwriter to write the book. Unfortunately, Jack has had no luck in finding a ghostwriter candidate that sees his vision for the book, but he runs into superfans that are hungry to be apart of his personal life or hungry to find out about his personal life that his has kept hidden from prying eyes. On his final attempt to find a candidate, he interviews Libby who doesn't know who he is, what he does, nor what she will be writing about. Libby is a colorful redhead that likes to knit, take care of her cat, Mr. Mistoffelees, and she needs another writing job to keep afloat. Jack sees Libby as the perfect candidate for the ghostwriter for his book and immediately hires her, but Libby feels that this piece of work is out of her depth since she has never written an autobiography but craft books. Tom has faith that she is the right person, but the more he is around her the more the walls he has built around his personal life begin to crumble. As Libby shadows Tom for the book project, the two cannot fight their attraction to one another for too long. Tom sees Libby as a breath of fresh air and Libby sees Tom's more softer human side that he keeps hidden from all but she has somehow able to pull bits and pieces from him by just being herself.

The premise of this book caught my interest. It's a concept I haven't really given much thought to-ghostwriting that is-so I was intrigued to see how that would play out. I'm also a fan of opposites attracting, and the blurb definitely tells us that Jack and Libby are two very different people. This added up to a fun, quick read for me.

I chuckled over Libby and Jack's introduction to each other. I feel like the first meeting (or at least the first meeting the reader sees) sets the tone for the couple in the book. To me, Libby was a step behind Jack the whole time in their meeting, giving him a slight advantage. That advantage continues as these two work together as he holds part of himself back.

I really wanted to like Jack-and I did. I love a smart, sexy man who can make me swoon. For me, the swoon just came a little later than I wanted. He's a little closed off which just makes you want to know more about him.

Libby is just a burst of color in Jack's muted world. Which is great. She shook him up for sure, which he desperately needed. Some might think Libby is somewhat eccentric and I could see that but she's just loveable. I adored her and loved getting to know her in the book.

I liked these characters and I did want them to be together. There were times I was frustrated with them, yes, but overall I really did root for them. I do feel at times their conflict was a bit overblown, that Jack was slightly too harsh but they worked through it. I honestly loved the ending-like heart melted loved.

Overall, this was a quick, fun read. I would recommend this book.

Opposites Attract - or so the saying goes. Jack is very strict on how he presents himself to the public and how he works. Libby is the carefree girl who lives by the seat of pants and doesn't plan a thing.

Libby is a ghost writer who is sent to interview the person the book is about but has no idea who the person is until she gets there and then still has no idea who Jack is. When she is commissioned to write the book she looks into as much of Jack as he will allow, which is not much. Libby digs around until she can come up with something that readers will want to read and not just the boring stuff. But will Jack allow for the book to be published?

Jack has a reason he wants to keep his private life - Private. He has something that he doesn't want the world to know about. When Libby goes snooping around his life he makes it clear that his private life is off limits. When Jack decides Libby has come too close to the truth, he cuts her loose. What he doesn't know is that she has finished the book.

Once Jack has read the book he finally realises that he made a mistake and wants Libby in his life. Will he change his ways of living because of Libby ad realise what he has missed out on?

This is my first Maggie Riley book but I will be reading more in the future. I was rooting for Libby all the way through and cursing Jack. I hope this is the effect that Maggie was after.

This story was a fun story but it seemed to lack depth and while it was enjoyabe I never really seemed to connect to either character. Jack is a big business type. He is beloved by his employees but he keeps his private life VERY private. He own a car company and they are coming out with a new model and he is told a book about his life would be a good way to get extra pubicity for his company.

That is why he is interviewing ghost writers. And he hates everyone of them until he meets Libby. She has no idea who he is when they meet and she is colorful and full of fun and sweetness and she is a breath of fresh air. Libby needs the money and is up for the challege, Jack challenges her on a personal level as well as professionally.

The issue here is that Jack does not want her to know anything personal about him. So he gets mad when she starts digging. But Libby just wants a great book. So what happens? I am not spoiling it.

Jack and Libby were fun together. I pretty much guessed his big secret but the whole private thing seemed silly to me. He hired Libby, he controls what she writes. She was not hired but a publisher but Jack so if he wanted to delete something he could. Its why I did not understand why he was so nervous.

This story was sweet and cute. I enjoyed the story and the characters, I just fel like it needed more depth to it and I did not understand why it was this big deal.

I am in love. Start Me Up has it all. I went from laughing so hard I thought I was going to die if I didn’t stop, to crying without any amount of control.

The blurb had intrigued me so much that I knew I had to read it. And I wasn’t disappointed at all. The author managed to craft a story that kept me glued to the pages because I just couldn’t STOP reading. I mean, I started it and didn’t stop even once, not even to eat, and that for me, is saying something. So, I didn’t stop until the story ended. And even when I got there, I wanted more.

Because reading Jack and Libby’s interactions was super fun. They were so entertaining. And how could they not be? If they are the opposite of each other. Although they do share some similarities. For example, Libby is not afraid of speaking her mind when she feels like it, and Jack is the same as well, but the main difference is that when Libby is all about talking about what needs to be spoken without minding the topic, Jack prefers to keep his personal life reserved, on contrary when it’s about work. Because then, he takes charge and speaks his mind.

I love the contrast between these two characters, one has a life between black and white, maybe different shades of grey, but the other one is full of colors, and can’t get enough of them. They are so opposite that they are perfect for each other.

Jack is an innovative businessman who is launching a new car and has been advised that a biography to coincide with the release would make both the car and the book bestsellers.

Libby is the ghostwriter that he has chosen for the book and he thinks that she will be perfect for the job. She is more accustomed to writing manuals than biographies and he believes that she will not dig too deep into the past and the secrets he doesn’t want revealed.

The assignment requires her to shadow his life which is very different from hers. He lives a wealthy lifestyle that includes an active social life and she prefers to stay home and work on her crafts and read. As she spends time together she feels the story needs more depth to be interesting to the public and not just the facts of how he makes his millions however he is fighting her at every turn as he wants to keep his private life private. As they spend time together they become closer but will he ever trust her enough to share his past with her or are they destined to go their separate ways?

I liked how Libby and Jack realized that their love was stronger than the differences both in their lifestyles and personalities and their chemistry was hot. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Jack is the CEO of a eco friendly car company who is intensively private about his life. He's very guarded and wants people to focus on his work. Libby is a writer of mainly craft how to books. Her friend gets her a job interview and she goes knowing nothing about the person who needs a ghost writer. Jack's company is releasing a new car and she's suppose to write a book about him to coincide with the car's release. Libby has never heard of him and somehow gets the job. Libby and Jack straight away have attraction to each other but fight it as long as they can. Libby keeps after Jack to give her something personal for the book because all she has right now is boring tech stuff. The book has become important to Libby so everyone knows how great Jack truly is as a person. Jack, slowly starts to reveal a few things here and there but he's got a great reason for not letting down that wall of his. Will Jack finely reveal his secrets? Can Libby handle what she finds out? I would like to say that this book was a great read, very little drama and absolutely no ow drama at all. If you want a nice good solid romance story this one is for you. 4.5Stars
4.5 stars for me... it took me a while to get into this one but once I did this was a funny, sexy, flirty read. Jack the self-made millionaire is as seemingly hard on the inside as the outward persona portrays... but it only takes a few weeks with Libby the cute, curvy redhead to shatter the carefully protective walls he has constructed around his heart. Their chemistry is instant and when they finally give in to it it's explosive.. A super sexy love story with a heart warming happily ever after.

It took me quite a while to get into this book, once I did, I really enjoyed it. It was a really well-written story.  The instant chemistry between the character made this a good read. Libby and  Jack were a match made in heaven. After the initial feeling of not sure if I wanted to carry but I am glad  I really did.

I do recommend this book but you need some patience with the beginning as it is a slow burner but bare with it and it's a good read.

This was better than average for me, but not quite all the way to 3.5 stars....
I really liked Libby and Jack is a character that grew on me as I got to know him. The scenario that had these two together is unique and I liked the idea too.
Where I ran into issues, was with the execution. Jack was just a little too jaded for me. Nothing in his back ground explains the extreme distrust he displays or his visceral over reactions to certain things. The conflict between Libby and Jack seems to be overly manufactured and I struggled with her reaction when decided to wise up and apologize. My other issue - and one I tried to ignore given the fact that this was an advance copy - had to do with the editing. I hope there is significant polishing done before final publication.
Over all, this is a cute and quick read with a fun heroine and alpha hero; perfect for relaxing by the pool.

"You broke all my rules."

When the "curvaceous, adorable, clever, ridiculous" Libby Hansen shows up for a ghostwriting interview at Jack Willis' office he can't help be smitten with the eccentric woman who is like no one he's ever met before. Libby Hansen has no clue who the CEO, millionaire, inventor Jack Willis is at all. (Something Jack finds completely refreshing). Libby's world is filled with knitting, ghostwriting craft books and her 15 year old former street cat Mr. Mistoffelees, not playboy millionaires fawned over by the media.

Libby is determined to inject Jack's book with heart and make the world she him as she has grown to know him: a kind, thoughtful man who loves his work and does it because he wants to make the world a better place. But Jack has always guarded himself and never expected anyone like Libby to fall into his life. And her certainly never expected to fall in love with her. But will he lose her by trying to protect his biggest secret?

Maggie Riley writes fun, quirky, sexy, authentic characters that put a smile on your face and capture your heart. Eccentric Libby and reserved JAck couldn't be more different, but opposites attract in this wonderfully charming romance.

This is a light, fast read that doesn't have a lot of depth, but is still enjoyable. Basically, it is brain candy - when you want something fun that doesn't require you to engage very heavily. I feel bad giving it 3.5 stars because ... well, I feel like the scale should be adaptive. It should reflect what it is trying to do.

Just like I wouldn't compare Schindler's List to Bridesmaids ... they are both trying to be totally different things, that are incomparable.

So here's what I'll say... on a rock-solid scale of all books, I'd give this a 3.5, because it didn't dig in beyond the superficial and it all happened super fast. It is light and sweet, like spun sugar.

But on the scale of brain candy - if spun sugar is exactly what you're craving - I'd give it a 4.5.

One thumb up...one thumb down

The book overall was an okay read. There was a lot of inner dialogue from the characters and the love story was slow but still managed to feel rushed once you get to the end. That's possibly because the characters were predictable and the conversations were... not necessarily unnatural but too natural. Which made for uninteresting dialogue. The secondary characters were also pointless as they didn't really have anything special to add except one time for both best friends from his and her sides. So it wasn't a horrible book but it also wasn't great. If I had to apply healthy criticism I would say the characters need to be more dimensional. Make them different from everyday people. Add more spice and less inner dialogue.

Start Me Up by Maggie Riley is a stand-alone romance novel.
Meet Jack Willis, he´s arrogant, sexy and a successful business man.
And there is Libby Hanson. She´s a curvy bombshell who has to ghost write his biography. They meet and she´s so smitten with him. There is crazy insta-lust. She drives him crazy. But he has secrets, secrets that he wants to stay hidden. Libby investigates his life and bam he flips his lid.
I so wanted to yell at his arrogant a.. .
Start Me Up is a great love story with a beautiful HEA, a sweet romance.
I liked the characters and I loved the writing. I give 4,5 sweet stars, thank you Maggie Riley.

Start Me Up is just what I was looking for! It was such a refreshing read. I adored Jack and Libby and could not get enough of their story. Libby keeps you on your toes, because you never know what she is going to do or say. Jack is the mysterious business man who keeps his private life just that, private. What happens when he hires Libby to write his biography? Will he be able to open up to her? What happens when professional lines are blurred?

I read this book in one sitting. I found myself laughing out loud at a several parts. It is a MUST read. This is my first Maggie Riley book and it will not be my last!!!

Oh, Jack. He's so closed off that it's almost painful for him when Libby starts unraveling his shell. Yet, he can't resist her charms. Libby also can't resist Jack's charms - and he doesn't even know he has them! ; )

This story is full of sweet moments between these two as they navigate their relationship. Jack ends up needing a good, swift kick in the butt, but he also does exactly what he needs to do once he realizes. I absolutely ADORED these two & getting to tag along in their story. AND! Be sure you sign up for the extra scene - it's adorable & like the cherry on top of the story. Two thumbs way up!
