At the end of Waking the Watcher, Devin took on his Watcher and was given 5 years to live it up (vampire style) before he goes into the nothing and the Watcher takes over. Unfortunately for both of them, they didn't anticipate Willow, a vampire hunter to enter the scene and make things difficult.
Ms. Loraine started this trilogy as a short story based on Catholic dogma of the fight for heaven between the angels loyal to God and the Fallen, luckily for us the original characters Galen and Reese had a lot more to say. Then, also luckily, Devin decided his story needed to be written as well. In Denying, Ms. Loraine weaves a wonderfully rich story of angels, Archangels, vampires and hunters and the fight to keep the Fallen contained. It is intriguing as Ms. Loraine reveals more of the workings of the angels and what they are capable of. The plot thickens with active appearances of Lucifer and Azazel, the threat and danger increasing.
Devin is a little more surly this time around having found out the "catch" to having a working body for five years. He is resigned to his time ending and is just biding his time. Enter Willow, a mysterious woman who knows about vampires and actively fights them despite being human. She is smart, determined and completely blindsided by her attraction to Devin. The interaction between the two is engrossing and entertaining as fighting their bond becomes a push and pull of desire.
Devin's Watcher, Sariel plays a integral part to the tumultuous relationship between Devin and Willow, both good and bad, while waiting for the final battle. Ms. Loraine took the stoic, unfeeling Watcher and gives him growing emotions as well as throwing him for a major loop. Add in small appearances by Galen and Reese that are both touching and shocking and you have an outstanding second part to this fantastic trilogy.
