Kendra is an author of mystery romance novels. A woman after my own heart. She is also a ghost whisperer. She doesn’t leave her comfort zone, whether in fashion or personality. That will all change when Jenna seeks her help

Jenna is her best friend and quickly becomes a ghost. Fantastic personality and I can relate to her. She is afraid for her FBI father and hangs around, refusing to go into the light. She wonders how Jenna could be her best friend and she not realize she was gay. It makes her question herself. Kendra’s mind just never went there.

The plot thickens and bodies fall.

Kendra will be working with Derek Knight, who Jenna was investigating the death of numerous FBI agents with. I feel a romance in the making. The attraction was quick and it developed rapidly, them being pushed together all day, every day.

Of course, I knew she would have to do something stupid, ignoring her intuition. It happens in all romantic suspense novels. It can be frustrating, but builds the suspense, knowing she’s in big trouble with a capital T.

Well, I was right about one thing, but it wasn’t the killer and it didn’t go down the way I thought. I love when an author can surprise me and keep me guessing. And…now I know.

There’s more to come in this series and I want to be there with the gang. I can imagine all the hoots, laughs and danger that will be coming their way.

In Peters-Davis first installment of the Kendra Sparks series, Unorthodox, (Books We Love 2017), Kendra Sparks hasn’t seen her best friend from high school, Jenna, in years. But when Jenna, now an FBI agent, calls for help, asking Kendra, now a romance writer, to jump on a plane to Washington DC, Kendra does. Immediately. She always seemed to do what Jenna asked. Before Jenna can plea with Kendra to use her psychic abilities, the ones where she can talk to ghosts, to catch a serial killer, the young FBI agent is killed. It is left to Kendra, Derek (Jenna's FBI partner who knows nothing about Kendra's abilities), and--surprisingly Jenna in her new splashy ghostly form, to stop this murderer before he kills Jenna's father.

What a fresh approach to catching murderers. It's a hoot to watch Jenna gather information no normal human could, and Kendra share that with the FBI when there's no reason she'd know these facts. How that works makes for a fun, fast-moving, and exciting novel that I looked forward to reading every moment I wasn't. It’s just the right mix of action, intrigue, and budding romance to make me happy this is a series, not just a one-off murder mystery. Highly recommended for those who love a great, light read.

Kendra Spark is an author of romance-thrillers with not only the crafty skill for the written word but also the plaguing ability to see apparitions. Seeing ghosts would certainly inspire some mysterious plots. But who would've thought that she would get thrown into a mystery of her own.

After witnessing the death of her friend, Kendra can't shake the guilt and wonders if the serial case her friend was working on had anything to do with it. Perhaps her psychic abilities could come in handy. That, along with the aid of her recently deceased BFF now parading as a ghost. Kendra must be sly and savvy if she's going to quell her reputation of "talking to air" while hunting down a serial killer and trying to get her next book out. Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines! How will she meet the publicist, do promo ads, fulfill her publisher's contract, and catch a killer before his next strike?

Murder, ghosts, psychics, the writer's life--this story had everything I so enjoy in a good book. It's certainly an "unorthodox" tale. Well-written and captivating, this gripping thriller entices the reader from beginning to end. I look forward to more Kendra Spark novels.

Unorthodox (A Kendra Sparks Novel Book 1)

This book has everything I love. Suspense and paramormal.

I felt the characture developmemt was well done. The story was very well written. You follow Kendra, Jenna and Derek (ghost whisperer, ghost and FBI) thru a thrilling ride of mystery with a ghost to help along the way.

There is a bit of romance build up but it doesn't take over the story. Which in my opinion is very important, as I am not big on romance. I want a well rounded story and this one delivers.

I am excited that this is only book 1 becuase I can see big things coming with this series and author.

An interesting read with a mystery at the heart of it. I would recommend it.

This if s thrilling, suspenseful read that combines ghosts and solving crimes, and does it quote well. The book is very interesting and keeps you hooked, from start to finish, really pulling you right into the crime scenes, and the sad, untimely death of the FBI analyst.

However, the characters aren’t brought down or held back by this death because the book focuses round the use of a ghost communicator, which is really quite exciting. She is able to bring together suspenseful mystery readings with a paranormal twist, in a way that I found hard to put down.

I really liked the characters, in the sense that they were created very well, with the reader and their connection to the story in mind. They were unique and still very relatable, but still had flaws, so that they felt real. I liked that, as it made the book much more down to earth and easy to connect with.

**I received an arc and chose to provide my honest review.

Kendra Spark is a Michigander that can see ghosts. When her estranged best friend Jenna, an FBI criminal analyst summons her to D.C. Kendra is shocked to learn why. Jenna is on a case trying to find a murderer taking out FBI agents who have worked with her father. She wants to use Kendra's unique abilities to help track down the monster. Before they get much more involved in the conversation, Jenna rushes into the street to save a boy and is mowed down by a car. Now, Jenna must do all of her analyzing from the ghostly plane as she helps Kendra and FBI Task Force Agent Derek Knight chase down the murderer.

Unorthodox is an interesting novel that combines a ghost whisperer, an FBI agent, and a ghost into a crime solving team. Kendra tries to keep her abilities to herself since almost everyone who discovers her secret either calls her a liar or a freak. As the book progresses, Derek become more open minded about Kendra. Jenna is able to help in dangerous situations by using a skill that she now has as a ghost. Derek does the best he can in such trying circumstances that continue to hit close to home.

The author built up a low key romance but unfortunately I didn't really hop on board the relationship train. It wasn't really believable to me. I didn't feel any chemistry between Kendra and Derek - none at all. I liked the characters as individuals but Kendra and Derek didn't spark for me. Jenna's character flitted in and out as necessary and I found her to be nice and determined. She wanted to protect her father at all costs and she paid the biggest price.

The world building and character development was good and believable (except the slow building relationship between Kendra and Derek). I felt that the author's detailed descriptions of the setting, characters, and scenes were adequate and I was able to visualize the whole story from layouts to character details. At certain points I felt like I was there in the story.

Unorthodox is a suspenseful thriller that will keep you engaged from the very beginning.

This book was really good. The touch of spook factor along with the suspense, mystery and paranormal (which is always fun) all blended together making the perfect combination.

I loved the chemistry the trio of main characters had together. The way they worked together to figure things out was phenomenal. And Derek was the perfect piece of visual eye candy. I really enjoyed how well written these characters were, whether their roles were big or small. The writing was superb and I loved how everything flowed together, creating a vivid picture in the minds eye.

Everyone had to figure out who and what they were and needed to be and everyone had to come together to figure out everything else. It was definitely an amazing read.

My Review:
This was a very interesting read to me. I love ghost stories. They are my favorite. This one really grabbed me since I also like mysteries.

Kendra Spark is a author who lives in Michigan. Oh and she can communicate with ghosts. Jenna who best friend for many years is a FBI Analyst in Washington DC. Kendra gets a call from Jenna wanting her to help her on a case. Not just people are dying but FBI Agents. Jenna is hoping Kendra can use her special gift to come up with some answers and hopefully figure out who the killer is.
Of course Kendra jumps to help Jenna. Just as they are getting started on the case Jenna is killed in a car accident. Now Kendra, Ghost Jenna and hot agent Derek need to solve the case before more agents are killed.
I liked how all 3 of the main characters actually had their own turns to shine through out the story. S. Peters-Davis has done a great job with this story. I will be waiting on the rest of the series,

Kendra Spark can see ghosts. That is the reason her long-time friend, Jenna Powers, asked her to come to Washington D.C., but Kendra was only told it was life or death. Jenna wants Kendra to use her “gift” to help her crack an FBI case.

Jenna dies in Chapter One. Yes, serious action from beginning to end. You will also watch a budding love interest between Kendra and FBI agent Derek Knight. Twists and turns abound, but danger rules.

It’s hard to put this book down, but you’ll be glad to know it’s only the first in the Kendra Spark Novel series.
