Wow that old guy is creepy as fuck, the emperor lol Somewhere out there in the world, a Darth Vader fanatic is collecting these comics without even reading them, because the covers are absolutely sick. Great job on the covers. I am giving these four stars but I think they deserve much less honestly, there is just not much going on, if you want to fit what happened here in a tv episode it would barely take 10 minutes if even that, that's astronomically low compared to most comics that I read. But at least it allows me to spend less time on comics daily.
The Force is viewed obsolete in a "Vader-replacement" program approved by none other than the emperor himself!
More than just a game of light sabers, issue #5 is a game with politics. Lord Vader is now considered an obsolete "culture" by many, including the technically immortal Cylo and the emperor himself. This is old versus new, organic force versus arificial power.
Doctor Aphra, as always has her charms, an anti-hero with a heart and enthusiasm. The droids 000 and BT are very C3PO and R2D2 plus very, very evil and sarcastic!
Marvel has provided fans with the rich context of source material in the Star Wars Galaxy, and this Darth Vader series is spectacular in scope and depth. Writer Kieron Gillen weaves a masterful series, adding structure to an already rich and complex character. Salvador Larroca's artwork is flawless in detail, and beautifully rendered on each page. These are interesting books, providing both personal and historical narratives coupling with the overall breadth of the Star Wars Galaxy.

This review will be the same for Darth Vader, Volumes 1-6 & Skywalker Strikes, Volumes 1-6.
I picked up these comics at the library. I spent about 30 minutes with each one. They are fun. I think the stories mesh well with the films. These volumes need read in order as Vader and Luke are characters in each and the timeline only makes sense if they are read chronologically. I enjoyed most of the artwork, the one exception being Han, the artist just didn't quite capture Harrison Ford. Right now our library only has these volumes, when and if more arrive I will read them as well.
Lord Vader and Doctor Aphra with her incredibly cool droids, make quite the trio.
The set-up here is opening up something never before seen within the Star Wars universe outside of these comics. Looking forward to seeing where the content creators take this next!
Gosh golly- after everything Darth Vader has been through, you'd think he'd have kicked Palpatine down an energy core shaft a lot sooner. Cause for someone as smart as Darthah Vadie- he sure can't see the one hundred and fifty thousand red flags popping up behind his wrinkly ass boss. Smuh 🤫
Now we're talking! Vader attacks and learns The Emperors evil plan to replace him. Excellent story, I'm glad I got these all at once because I couldn't imagine waiting a month to read the finale.
Where we have had allot going on the first few issues, here we have a very linear, focused story. Using the information obtained in the previous issue, Vaders Vandals (my name for the team) has tracked down the home of the man the emperor had been meeting with.
Once they get there, they discover it to be a moving city built on giant, armored insects. They send the robots in as a decoy and then Vader comes screaming through a side hole that he makes with his light saber. The enemy soldiers are sucked into space while Vader’s Vandals and their new robot army advance through wave after wave before finally being met by stronger reisistance, a man and woman weilding light sabers.
They are weak with the force, but attempt to use their superier agility to take him down. Eventually, things come to a halt at the man who had been previously tortured to death appears to have arrived. They quickly discover, though, that these are actually clones and clone 5 was activated when clone 4 died.
We further discover that these two lightsaber weilders are part of a team of experiments that the man has been putting together as options for The Emperor. These include a robotic lizardman, a General Grevious type multi-armed Mon Calimari, and a woman who can control attack spheres wit her mind.
Once the emperor shows up and sees what is set out before him, he would like for them to show him a demonstration on Vader which is to come next issue.
Another really solid issue here with an interesting twist with these people who they think will be successors to the force. I’m not buying it, though, Vader is too strong. We know this having seen the movies to come, but man I want to see Vader wreck these guys.
Even though he has done and is doing some terrible stuff, I find myself Dr. Aphra style rooting him on, especially here.
The art continues to be really strong here. The splashes in this series have been pretty epic. The showdown splash here is going to go for crazy money to someone and thousands of others will be jealous.
Darth Vader has his droid army, and he takes it to a base...which is ON THE BACK OF A FLYING, CELESTIAL BEAST! It looks like a city, really! The concept reminds me a bit of Terry Pratchett's Discworld. Vader gets on board with his battle droids, as well as 0-0-0 and BT-1. We see a bit of a banter between the protocol droid and the astromech droid. Then, it seems as if Vader is facing two Jedi surviving Jedi. However, these are revealed to be holograms created by Cylo V, a program that has succeeded the deceased Cylo IV. I am not sure how I feel about this. Anyway, Sidious appears so that he may witness Vader fighting off more holograms which apparently feel as real as the ones from Star Trek: Voyager. Regardless of whether or not Vader bests them, we know that he will survive.
An interesting start to this one. I tire of the "replacement of Vader" trope that is very predominant in the post-ANH era, in both old canon and new canon. These cyborg creations and the weird Sci-Fi element to the base was definitely different than some past iterations of this trope/theme in Star Wars lore though. Don't think its necessarily better, although it is at least different.
This is a brilliant introduction to Vader's origin. These stories feel like genuine "Star Wars" and much more authentic than the recent movies (pity this writer couldn't have been enlisted for the film's). The art, meanwhile, is fantastic.
