Unfortunately I started this book late, so ASP.Net Core has evolved and it was hard to get the projects started. Once started, though, most of the samples worked fine.

Very in-depth, easy to follow examples. The subject matter is always evolving, so you need to get PDFs of the updated chapters for Visual Studio 2017 from apress.com
