- A fake relationship? √

- A steamy one-night stand turned into a wild publicity stunt? √

A hot & cocky Hollywood actor meets his match when he falls for the sassy girl next door in AFTER ALL. Light, fun and sexy as sin, it's the PERFECT SUMMER READ. From the NYT and USA Today bestselling author of The Pact and Before I Ever Met You.

Emmett Hill is the perfect gentleman.

At least that's what his PR team wants the world to think.

Tall, handsome, and wickedly charming, Emmett is in the midst of a career comeback, having landed the role of a villain in a popular TV show. The only problem is, Emmett has come a long way from the "nice guy" characters he used to play and his old squeaky clean image is quickly being tarnished by bar fights, womanizing and bad boy behaviour. Considering he's two years shy of forty, it's an act he needs to drop. And fast.

Enter Alyssa Martin.

At twenty-eight, Alyssa is tired and ready for a change. Her job as office manager has grown stagnant and unfulfilling, while she's become continuously frustrated with Vancouver's lackluster dating scene, always searching for Mr. Right in a city of Mr. Wrongs.

When Emmett and Alyssa's paths cross at a mutual friend's wedding, their chemistry is off-the-charts hot, culminating in a steamy one-night stand.

What neither expected was for the media catch wind of their coupling - and run with it.

Now Emmett has to convince Alyssa to date him for the sake of his image. Her curvy, cute and "normal" persona is just the ticket to smoothing out his reputation, while Emmett provides Alyssa with the excitement and change her life has been lacking.

The only problem is, the two fight like cats and dogs outside of the bedroom.

And considering their arrangement is just for show, they shouldn't be in the bedroom with each other anyway.

Right?

Try telling them that.

I’m a huge fan of Karina Halle’s work, but I think I love her contemporary romance books best. She always writes the best mix of emotional, sweet, sexy, and funny. After All was one of those books with the perfect balance of everything I love in a romance. It was steamy, it made me laugh, made me swoon, and it gave me just the right amount of feels. I loved Alyssa and Emmett’s story!

Alyssa and Emmett meet at a mutual friend’s wedding. Their first meeting… it makes me smile and giggle a bit just thinking about it! Emmett is attracted to Alyssa at first glance, but she isn’t like other girls he comes on to. You see, Emmett is an actor and kind of used to girls throwing themselves at him. He’s not used to this prickly woman who isn’t dropping her panties with just a smile from him. Lets be honest here though… Emmett doesn’t have to try that hard to get Alyssa to notice him. It’s just more work that he’s used to ;)

This sexy stranger, this prickly thing. She might just be the best lay I’ve ever had.

The chemistry between these two was explosive from the start. I loved that Alyssa was ‘off-limits’ to Emmett. It was almost like a challenge accepted moment. Alyssa and Emmett start things off a little differently than most couples. They are both helping each other out by ‘dating’ each other, but they don’t expect to catch feelings. It’s just sex between them… right?
“Love shouldn’t be work.”
“Sometimes it is though,” she says. “But it’s worth it.”

I really liked Alyssa as a heroine. She had a take no crap attitude and was fun and sassy. Emmett had the best personality and when you got to hear his back story and see inside him, you realize he has the best heart. It was heart wrenching to look into his past, but it was apparent that it made him the amazing man he is now.

The banter between Alyssa and Emmett was the best. I couldn’t stop grinning listening to them go at it. I loved that they both gave as good as they got. After All was sexy and fun, but it was also real and emotional. I loved watching the love truly bloom between this couple. Karina did a fantastic job with this book. I’d recommend it to all lovers of cont. romance.
“Emmett?”
“Yes, sunshine?”
A pause. I can tell she’s biting on her lip. “Is this real?”
I close my eyes and hold her tight. “It’s always real,” I tell her.

AFTER ALL - KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

AFTER ALL: is a STANDALONE lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers contemporary romance from best selling Author Karina Halle

10 Years Old: Were first introduced to a ten year old Emmett Hill, living in a run down apartment building on the wrong side of the tracks, with his junkie mother always wishing for a better life than what he was dished out. His only out was reading and putting on plays where he was always the hero were his two favourite things to do in life. Used to his mother or neighbour walking him to and from school until one day neither turned up, that was the day he found his mother behind a dumpster from an overdose of whatever she’d taken that day.

The above ‘Prologue’ sucked me in, at that stage Karina Halle at me eating out of the palm of her hand.

28 Years Later: At thirty-eight years old Emmett is at the prime in his acting career playing the bad guy on a superhero show called Boomerang which is a crowd favourite for teens.
Trouble seems to follow Emmett wherever he goes, though he strives to act as professional on set it’s off set that’s a different story. Though his career has started to take off it’s all other aspects of his life that is failing, especially in the romance department.

Some people are built for love and long-lasting relationships. Some people aren’t. I know which category I fall i not, it’s tile to start owning it.

Whilst attending his best friends wedding as his best man he’s struck by a sight for sore eyes, a beautiful blond bombshell whose there as her best friends bridesmaid, Jackie.

She’s got that ‘bitch hot’ vibe down pat. Poor girl doesn’t know I’m a sucker for that.

Will tells Emmett that she’s off limits to him which only makes him chase her ten fold.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Twenty-eight year old Alyssa has never met Emmett Hill, will’s friend and fellow groomsman, she has however heard a lot about him from social media and the like and wasn’t that impressed with what she saw.

A one night stand, leads to photos being leaked, the public liked what they saw when it came to the woman seen with Emmett. That one night stand turned into a lie of epic proportions

To save Emmetts career due to his bad boy image he has off set his publicist concocts up a plan that because the public loved that he was seen with a real woman and not his usual eye candy on his arm she came up with a contract to bind these two together in a fake relationship. Three months, making Alyssa forty thousand dollars richer than before she went into this farce.

Being Emmetts fake girlfriend wasn't easy, the dates, the loving caresses, the good times between the sheets, when does it all become so real? When does it stop being so fake? What happens when the three months are up?

Things are getting complicated, the edges are blurring, the lines are being crossed.

MY THOUGHTS: ❀ This was such an enjoyable fun loving read, I loved these two characters, I loved that they were older, the highs and lows of celebrity life. I highly recommend this, a light, humorous, fun loving read. I laughed, I swooned, I loved every single moment I spent in this book.

I want to bury myself deep inside her and never let go, let her light wash over all my darkness, let it dissolve my past. Alyssa is my sun, pure golden warmth that leaves only love behind.

AFTER ALL is the perfect low on angst but heavy on the combustible steam summer read! I know that Karina Halle is a truly versatile writer who doesn’t limit herself to one type of story but I have to say that I happen to love her “adult contemporary” books more than the others! We met the Hero and Heroine in BEFORE I EVER MET YOU and theirs is a sort of “hate to love” relationship, but more so on the Heroine’s side. What I enjoyed most was that all that “enemies to lovers” drama didn’t last for too long because honestly, I think I have had my fill of that trope!! This story has some of the most intensely steamy scenes but there’s also a ton of heart to round it out quite perfectly!!

Emmett Hill is a tv actor who has had his fair share of bad publicity lately over his ill-tempered outbursts in public. To be fair, it seems that the paparazzi love to instigate fights with him in hopes of snapping pics of Emmett while in the midst of his blow-outs. His publicist advises him that he needs an image makeover. While at his best friend's wedding, he meets Alyssa Martin, who is one of the bridesmaids. He’s instantly attracted to her but she’s as cool as a cucumber towards him. It’s throwing him for a loop because woman are usually falling all over themselves to get his attention. Alyssa is not in the least bit impressed with him and lets him know she thinks he’s just a slick Hollywood actor looking for an easy lay. But by the end of the night and after several cocktails the two end up sharing an intense and passionate moment during the wedding reception. A kiss that they share winds up landing on some social media gossip sites the next day.

The picture of them starts to generate a lot of interest because of Alyssa. She’s just a regular gal who doesn’t have ties to the industry and so speculations start to spread across the gossip sites that maybe Emmett is finally mellowing out because he’s found himself a nice girl. Looking to capitalize on all of the current publicity, Emmett proposes a deal with Alyssa. She is to be his pretend girlfriend for the next few months in order to boost his public image and at the end of their contract, she’ll get a forty-thousand dollar check. Alyssa is so unhappy with her career at the moment and this money is what she needs to quit her job and pursue her life-long dream.

 photo After-All-3D-book-teaser_zps4hvd8b8u.jpg

Alyssa and Emmett may seem polar opposites but that’s because of the act they put on in front of everyone to protect themselves. They actually couldn’t be more perfect for each other if they tried. As they spend time together as a “so-called” couple, real feelings are constantly bubbling up to the surface. The only problem is that while their hearts are starting to get invested, their insecurities keep telling them that it’s all fake and that they’re just acting the part of a couple in love.

Will Emmett and Alyssa get over their fears of abandonment and take a real chance on true love?

4 "The Bruiser and the Blondie" Stars!

“Love is a cliff. You're just steps from the edge. The fall in inevitable.”

I had a whole bunch of fun reading this book. Karina Halle effortlessly brings out such an entertaining book with a romance so sweet, hot, and beyond irresistible.

Alyssa Martin and Hollywood TV star Emmett Hill met at a common friends' wedding where Alyssa was one of the bride's maids and Emmett was the best man. Their first encounter was hot and intense as they instantly had a sexual connection. This connection led them to a one-night-stand-- which led to the Hollywood gossip sites and Emmett's fans to freak out the following day when pictures of them making out at the wedding venue leaked. Because Emmett is dubbed as the Hollywood's bad boy, the public saw his affair with Alyssa in a positive light. For who wouldn't love it when a playboy actor falls in love with an ordinary woman? So when Emmett suddenly appeared on Alyssa's doorsteps the next day and asked her to pretend as his girlfriend in exchange for a sum of money, she was too stunned.

I'm a huge fan of fake relationship love stories so I wasn't surprised to find myself enjoying this book. And because Karina Halle has an impeccable writing, not to mention the fact that she's really a versatile one and this book was filled to the brim with humor, I super loved every bit of it.

“Love shouldn't be work."

"Sometimes it is though," she says. "But it's worth it.”

The book offered up characters that are easy to root for. Emmett and Alyssa's firing chemistry was so on-point. And the sizzling smexy scenes? So tasteful.

description

Of course there was also a pinch of drama in this book but it was just minor. Just the way I like it! And although I was looking for a much better conflict in the near-end part, I still loved how I easily fell into the story. This super swoon-worthy rom-com as a whole gave me so many feels and so many laughs from cover to cover. A book like this is something that I could really get lost in.

“I know it feels like all or nothing sometimes in life, but there's nothing wrong with living in the space in-between.”

➦At this point Karina Halle's books are pretty much an auto-buy for me and I rarely bother myself with reading the blurbs because I know this lady can deliver. I'm pretty glad I went in blind and soon discovered that this was a fake relationship trope!

➦And that's not all, folks! It's also a celebrity actor falls for a regular gal trope!

➦So what happens when you agree to fake date an actor for the sake of publicity? When he kisses you in public and whispers sweet nothings in your ear... is it an act? Is it fake or is it real?

➦But celebrities are people too, so may be he also got hit with THE FEELS? o.O

➦I loved the characters and the banter and I don't think I'll ever get tired of reading fake relationship tropes because they always give me the feels :p If you're in the mood for a sexy, lighthearted summer read then this is one is definitely IT!

After All is a standalone spin off of the book Before I Ever Met You, with characters featured in that book. Alyssa is a curvy and sassy office assistant, Emmett an actor making his comeback. They are both part of the bridal party for their friends Will and Jackie, and they meet the day of the wedding. Right off the bat Emmett is attracted to Alyssa, he loves her prickly and spitfire personality, and Alyssa is attracted to Emmett against her better judgement. The two end up having a one night stand and expect to never see each other again. But a tabloid gets pictures of the two of them at the wedding, and they look like a couple. So Emmett, needing some good PR, asks Alyssa to be his fake girlfriend. From there, the lines get blurred.

I always enjoy Karina Halle romances, she never fails to deliver a great story. I loved Alyssa as a heroine, she didn’t fit into the typical role being abrasive and outspoken, as well as being a size ten. It goes to show that not every heroine is a simpering girl that plays doormat to the hero. Alyssa held her own, she knew when to push and when to let go, and I admired her. Emmett is a complicated hero with a damaged past, just the kind of guy readers enjoy to watch fall in love. He challenged Alyssa and thought she was beautiful.

I’m glad we got this story from Halle, it was a nice surprise to get a second book in the BIEMY univserse. I know Tiffany has a boyfriend, but I cannot help but want to get a book for her too. Make this book your next summer romance read!

**********Spoilers**********

EDITED: for anyone who wanted to know, this happened towards the end of the book (like in the last 50 or so pages) and there wasn't enough or any grovel in my IMO, they had already told each other I love yous and they were in a "real" relationship so there wasn't any excuse if he was "figuring"out his feelings for the heroine or "fighting" his feelings. This is just cheating for me PLAIN AND SIMPLE because he was already in love with the heroine..

Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't want my husband to kiss another woman drunk or not drunk, that is just a poor excuse.

So the hero got drunk with the ow that he had slept with before, he chose to get drunk no one put a gun on his head to get drunk. The ow kissed him and HE kissed her back and it's a weak excuse that he thought the ow was the heroine.

I'll just leave this excerpt here.==>

“Again, Emmett, the pictures. Your words. You kissed her. You were drunk and thought it was me. That doesn’t make it okay. Not even a bit.”
I put my head in my hands, pinch my eyes shut, hoping to drown out the world. “I know. I know it’s not okay. I fucked up.” I breathe in deep but everything hurts. “I fucked up.”
“Yeah,” she says quietly. “You did. And I’m sure I should just give you the benefit of the doubt but…I can’t. I just can’t. These pictures they’re…I’ll never stop seeing them. Never stop picturing you with her.”

And of course the OW set him up... So damn predictable... 😒

And the heroine's friend is telling her that she was harsh on him. Excuse me but did your boyfriend kissed ow? Because I'm pretty sure if he did you wouldn't be saying that she was harsh. The heroine needs better friends, ones that when something like this happens they would want to lynch the boyfriend right along with her.

“I think you’re being too harsh on him.”
“What?” I exclaim. “I’m being too harsh? Do you even know the rules of a pity party?”
“Give him a break."
Kissing isn’t cheating." HMMM.....

Really?? Because to me it is, it doesn't matter he got drunk and he thought the OW was the heroine, it's still cheating to me..

“A one-night stand turned into lie of epic proportions”

Well if that quote didn’t get your attention, you obviously have no pulse! With a sexy leading man, a feisty heroine, and two of the most lovable side characters , “After All” was the perfect contemporary romance that I was looking for.

Emmet Hill has had his fair share of bad publicity. Going from Broadway shows in London to a now superhero TV show, this actor has done a lot in his thirty-eight years. Well except for staying out of trouble that is. Being told to tone it down on numerous occasions, Emmet knows that if he doesn’t do what he’s told, his public image is only going to get worse.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

While attending his best friend’s wedding, Emmet meets and falls for the tempting Alyssa Martin. But what happens when the sexy vixen isn’t interested in becoming another one of his tabloids stories and refuses him after their one night stand? You draw up a contract. Hey, this is the celebrity life we’re talking about here and what’s crazy for us, is a walk in the park for them.

“Things are getting complicated. The edges are blurring, the lines are being crossed.”

Working for a successful company but not feeling challenged enough, Alyssa Martin is at a crossroads in her life. Don’t get her wrong, she likes what she does and she she’s developed some long lasting friendships with her Co-workers, but there’s something missing in her life. Seeing the Hollywood badboy up close and personal is nothing for her but having a one night stand and later being propositioned? Well that’s a first and being challenged in the workplace is about to be the least of her problems. Can Alyssa urvive a man like Emmet Hill? Or will her heart be broken before she even realizes she fell in love?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I was a huge fan of “Before I ever met You” so when I saw that Will and Jackie were going to play a strong part in this storyline, it made me fall more in love with these characters. I felt like everything fell into place and Emmet and Alyssa were meant to be. Karina never ceases to amaze me in her story telling so if you’re looking for a good summer read, make sure to pick this one up.

4.5 Stars!

-She lights me up inside, puts the sun in my sky.

 photo CCA11C21-2FE9-4A89-81B6-FBD1342BF51B_zpswgukp8gh.jpg

Alyssa Martin is a 28 yr. old single woman living in Vancouver. She's worked in the film business as an office manager for Mad Men Studios for the past six years. She's bored with her job & her love life is non-existent. She has some excitement come her way when she attends her boss & her best friends wedding. She meets a playful, cocky, gorgeous guy named Emmett Hill. They are both in Will & Jackie's wedding. Emmett is an extremely hot, famous actor. Alyssa can't figure why he keeps shamelessly hitting on her. She knows his type & how they treat women. The privileged celebrity who plays the field, can't be faithful & doesn't stick around. She's totally judged him without even getting to know him, but it doesn't stop her from enjoying everything he has to offer physically. He's delicious & she's affected by the dirty, filthy things he says. She has a one night stand with him & enjoys every sinful moment.

 photo CD50A9E8-7899-4A88-8280-249534715548_zps7vdlcbdk.jpg

Emmett Hill grew up poor & on the streets. He had a rough childhood, and now is guarded with his private life. After living in London & doing theatre, he's now a TV star. He's recently had a comeback, and his career has been on the rise since he landed the villain role on a superhero show. The only problem is his bad behavior the media always seems to capture. Between his womanizing ways & fighting his image lately has taken a hit. Recently photos emerged of Emmett being affectionate with Alyssa & the media thinks their a couple. That Emmett has settled down with a normal girl. When his publicist suggests a fake relationship with Alyssa to fix his bad boy image Emmett approaches Alyssa with a proposition to be his girlfriend for three months. He convinces her to date him to smooth over his reputation in the public eye.

 photo 9A14B9F1-C61C-41A3-BAE2-6B546678B8D5_zpsrd2mfkqq.jpg

As Emmett & Alyssa enter into this arrangement for show they clash & really get under each other's skin. Alyssa is a handful on a good day, & Emmett loves to push her buttons. They decide to keep things professional & keep their hands off each other, but that doesn't last long. Neither can quit thinking of their night together, and their chemistry is too overwhelming to deny.

 photo 4DE4744A-C5A6-4F33-8978-4B992FE9A313_zpsr0jsdocj.jpg

-The thing is... she's getting under my skin.

-I want her. Every day. Every night. I want her in my bed, I want her in my arms.

-I don't think I could ever get enough of her, ever get my fill.

-Everything inside me is coming alive.

-My body molds to him, adapts to him, like magnets you can't keep apart.

 photo BA9BFDC1-ADF0-4D3A-973C-B4443B997327_zpszfig2ksr.jpg

Soon everything that is supposed to be a lie feels real. Lines get blurred & they both have real feelings for one another. Things become very intimate between them, and eventually Alyssa is the one real thing in Emmett's life, when everything else in his world seems fake. She brings him a sense of peace, & he wants her in his life.

This was a fabulous, flirty, fun read. I really enjoyed it. Emmett was sexy & swoony, and Alyssa was a total spitfire that challenged him and gave him something real.

4 'Real or fake' Stars!

Of course, another winner by Karina Halle! I just decided to re-read Before I Ever Met You (because I loved it so much!) and then I remembered Karina actually wrote another story about characters we met in that book. I was pretty excited after my re-read session and I have to say, even though Will and Jackie are still my favorite, Emmett and Alyssa are such a good couple too!

After All is a standalone love story, but it can be considered a spin-off and I do highly recommend reading it after Before I Ever Met You. Still, of course, it can be 100% enjoyed as a standalone. This novel focuses on the story between the famous actor and playboy Emmett Hill and the woman that turns his world upside down, the wonderful office manager Alyssa Martin. These two seem to hate each other but I can only say their hawt “one-night-stand” turns into a beautiful messy love story!

“I’m not a fan of yours. Believe me.”
“You say that,” he says, lowering his mouth to my ear. He whispers. “But I bet if you give me two minutes, I can change your mind.”

You all know by now how much I love Karina Halle’s contemporary love stories. I love her writing style, I love how she develops the storyline, I love the depth of her characters and I love the amazing chemistry they have. Alyssa and Emmett were no exception to that. Their first night is extremely passionate and that progresses and it becomes a fantastic love story. I love when those Hollywood men find their perfect match! And boy, Alyssa definitely is Emmett’s match.

I love a gentleman as much as the next girl, but damn it, Emmett sure has a knack for making me appreciate a scoundrel.

He’s in my veins, in my system, slowly working his way to my heart.

These two together are explosive and oh-so-good! I love how everything starts as a “fake relationship” but how this couple cannot stop but start feeling other sentiments for one another. I love how Alyssa and Emmett grow as a couple and how their pasts and difficult experiences turn their “hate” into a loving and simply amazing relationship. Also, it was great catching up with all the other characters too. I loved how they interact with the main couple and how finally everyone gets their happy ever after. They surely deserve it!

We found our dream together.

Therefore, I am rating After All with 4 STARS because I really enjoyed how Emmett and Alyssa’s relationship builds and the amazingly hot chemistry they have. Karina never disappoints when it comes to the sexy times, that is for sure! It was great to revisit all these characters and read this stunning love story. As always, I am excited to see what is next! So, especially if you enjoy Karina’s contemporary romances, be sure to check this one out!

After All features one of my favorite tropes in contemporary romance: pretend boyfriend/girlfriend scenario. The slow burn of a platonic arrangement turning to scorching romance? I just love it! The difference in After All is that there was a one-night stand before the arrangement so the slow burn part kinda didn't factor in. Overall, this book was enjoyable and likable but didn't quite captivate me personally. However, if you have been following Karina Halle's seemingly permanent genre change to adult contemporary romance, make sure to add this one to your list.

My favorite quote:
“It takes a lot of nerve and courage to keep a dream alive when it’s so much easier to give up on it.”

Highly unlikable male protagonist.
After the strong prologue I believe this author would justify his a$$holishness through his tortured past.
I just not in the mood for it.

She... she was meh. I like tough b*tchy women, but this one told me she despised him and a couple pages further let him f*ck her 😞
Not cool, girl.
Either do as you say or don't say anything.

And her bffs... Help! Dumbbells alarm! 😩

1. Kissing OW while in a committed relationship IS cheating. It's not a peck on the cheek. It was sexual.
2. The fact he was drunk was not excusable. They live in a society where alcohol is regularly consumed. So she's supposed to worry every time he has a bottle of beer on his hand whether he'd lose the plot and go snog someone else? Every time he leaves the house? Is she not supposed to leave his side anymore? Is there ever going to be trust between them? DOES he deserve the trust and SHOULD she trust him? I personally won't.
3. The fact that he though it was her was in fact WORSE! So is she supposed to look over her shoulder throughout her whole life checking out whether he got drunk and though someone else was her and mauling them? What about if he ups it next time? What if he sleeps with someone thinking it's her? He clearly has NO sense, and the OW clearly doesn't care. Would that be acceptable? Where does one draw the line? And is it really alcohol that needs to blamed here rather than his mindset? He clearly can't tell the difference between his partner and anything that moves so what if he ends up sleeping with them? Does one REALLY need or deserve a partner like THAT?
4. As far as her friend goes, cut the ties, you're better off without her. She's more concerned about having to deal with a less than perfect situation rather than your wellbeing, she's not really a friend.

"Is this real?"
"It's always real."

Emmett and Alyssa meet when they are in Will and Jackie's (from Before I Ever Met You) wedding. Emmett is an actor and a bit of a player so Alyssa pretty much gives him hell. Of course, that means they can't stay away from each other!

description

Emmett's PR person suggests Emmett and Alyssa have a fake relationship to help Emmett's reputation and naturally, she will get compensated. This is her one chance to go for her dream so she takes it.

The story gets caught up a lot in the real or fake of the "relationship" especially since they are both falling. However, I really enjoyed Emmett's back story and how he won her over!

I have to admit that I was not impressed with Before I Ever Met You but with After All Karina Halle definitely redeems herself.
After All has a great story and the pace of it is just the way I like it. No instalove and the insta-lust was at a tolerable level. The story had a fabulous mixture of romance and humor.

I really enjoyed Emmett and his womanizing ways. He was a wonderful layered character which was revealed throughout the story. He was honest and spoke his mind no matter what. No matter how filthy his mouth got in the bedroom he could easily switch it around and be a sweetheart.
I was struggling with Alyssa. I enjoyed her and Emmett's first encounter because of her brazenness. It was sexy and funny. That locker room scene. Hot alert!
It was her personality that made me struggle. She wasn't satisfied with her looks and that got mentioned numerous and that got tiresome because everyone told her the opposite. That she was a catch. Her friendship with Jackie, Tiffany and Carla was terrific.

Emmett and Alyssa's chemistry was palpable and intense. I loved the first half of the book. It was wonderfully written and Alyssa and Emmett fused together perfectly.
I felt that the real/fake issue because of their arranged relationship interrupted the pace of the story a couple of times but nothing that ruined my experience.
After All was a wonderful romance that definitely gave me the feels all thanks to the sexy Emmett.

August 4th 2017 update: I just read this review and I found it extremely worthy to share.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Waiting for actual review instead of ARCs. And my GR friends. This author became a huge MAYBE for me. Her past books had so many triggers I don't trust to just one click anymore.

Update: this author's books are definitely not for me.
I won't even waste my time investigating her future works anymore. It's not her 1st book where she justifies, excuse and support cheating.

I am a bit disappointed with this book. Overall the idea of fake significant other is not a stranger in romance genre. Usually it happens in Hollywood/ billionaire hero and likeable heroine. In After All, Emmet is the Hollywood actor who needs a clean image. Enter Alyssa. The sassy, independent young woman. Alluring Emmet into a one night stand then develop into something deeper.

Miss Halle writing style is as usual romantic and full of layers. But in this book it does not work the magic. I do not understand what makes Emmet falling for Alyssa? What Emmet past contributes into his feeling toward Alyssa? And what is the Alyssa background that she agrees to be Emmet's fake girlfriend? Is it only because she wants to be actress?

With all of those questions, I have to settle with 3 stars for this book.

Another STAND OUT standalone that will make you fall in love with LOVE! Sexy, sweet, and completely swoony, with plenty of dirty talk to go round! Emmett Hill and Alyssa Martin were ELECTRIC together! So much tension...so much build-up...so much intensity and passion. I just couldn't walk away from these two AT ALL!

"He's in my veins, in my system, slowly working his way to my heart."

I bet in most of the reviews you read, they will have mentioned the Prologue being the thing that sucked them in. And they would be 100% CORRECT! Talk about heartbreaking...to have me in tears with only the first couple of pages...well, that sounds like the making of one HELL of a romance! The author transports us back to the past when Emmett was only 10 years old. We are witnesses to a horrible situation that no child should ever have to face. Then we start chapter one. This brings us to 28 years later and starts the journey of real or fake between two people who want something more out of their lives, so they enter into this 'proposition' that ends up changing them forever.

"When I'm deep inside her, there is only truth between us."

AFTER ALL was just a great romance to lose yourself in for a little while. Great plot, amazing characters, insane chemistry all throughout. This is one book you will have a hard time putting down, but that's just the way when you are reading a Karina Halle romance.

"I think the solution is to never let you go. Never let you out of my sight. Stay with me forever."

"I would be okay with that."

An arrangement that was supposed to be just for show, ends up becoming more REAL than either of them were ready for. You will SWOON for Emmett and you will ROOT for Alyssa. These two characters were perfect, giving us a push/pull dynamic that fed our craving for an enemies-to-lovers romance. And boy, when they bring their fight into the bedroom, cue the delicious dirty-talk and hold on for the ride of your life!

4 stars!

A romantic and super-steamy celebrity romance that is enemies-to-lovers with a fake relationship set-up. So many of my favourite tropes in the one book, and all with the touch of Karina Halle magic. I loved it!

This book is a standalone, but it does follow on from Before I Ever Met You. Just be aware that there are character crossovers and this book contains some spoilers for the first book, so if you’re planning on reading that one I recommend doing it first.

Alyssa and Emmett meet at the wedding of mutual friends (see note above about the previous book) where they are both in the wedding party. Emmett is a former teen television star who is making a comeback as a guest star on a hit series. With his good looks, charm and celebrity, he has no trouble getting women, and with his first glance at Alyssa, he’s hooked. Alyssa has no time for the famously womanising bad boy and she brushes him off, which of course only makes her even more appealing, and it doesn’t take long for that smooth charm - and a healthy amount of alcohol - to work in Emmett’s favour, and the two of them act on all of their sizzling chemistry with a seriously hot encounter.

Neither expect to see the other again, but when photos emerge of the two of them together it sparks a media frenzy with the press praising Emmett for finally settling down with a ‘normal’ girl. Desperate to take advantage of the positive publicity, Emmett and his publicist ask Alyssa to step in as his fake girlfriend for the next few months to boost his poor public image, and with the right incentive, she agrees. So, cue the public outings and PDA moments as Alyssa and Emmett find themselves all up in each other’s lives - bickering the whole time. But real feelings begin to develop as they get to know each other, and they soon find themselves wondering how much of what is between them is pretend, and how much is all too real?

This is such a fun story. Alyssa is a strong and feisty heroine who isn’t Emmett’s biggest fan (despite her mad attraction to him), so there is lots of banter and arguing. But there is a wonderful sense of easiness between them. Their openness and honesty with each other takes them by surprise, and their move to friendship and then more is natural, heartfelt, and so gorgeous.

“There’s only passion here. Only truth. Only you and me.”

And also incredibly hot! The chemistry between Emmett and Alyssa is fantastic and the sexy time is seriously steamy, but there is a lot of heart to their story too. Alyssa has dreams that she hasn’t shared with anybody, and Emmett’s background is heartbreaking and has left its mark on him, and watching them expose those secrets with each other was gorgeous and showed the changing nature of their relationship. And I loved watching them fall for each other.

“Emmett?”
“Yes, sunshine?”
A pause. I can tell she’s biting on her lip “Is this real?”
I close my eyes and hold her tight. “It’s always real,” I tell her.

There is some drama, but on the whole this is a pretty low-angst read that is lots of fun with a great relationship dynamic and a steamy, emotional love story. I loved it.

4 stars.

P.S. I listened to this as an audiobook and must admit that I struggled with some of the narration. Paul Woodson narrates well, but he kinda sounds like Nathan Lane which kinda killed the dirty talk for me, but it was still an enjoyable listen.

Karina Halle's After All is a deliciously complicated romance, an addictive, fast paced story surrounding a wedding reception quickie turned publicity stunt that's rife with sexual tension, filthy banter, and unexpected emotion. Alyssa Martin finds herself the target of tabloid fodder when photos of her hallway hookup with Emmett Hill, a successful Canadian tv star, are sold to the media. In an attempt at damage control to protect Emmett's already rocky reputation, his publicist enlists Alyssa, a "normal" girl, to act as his new flame. Of course things get super messy, with the pair navigating this faux relationship on a very blurry line between what is fake and what is real.

After how much I absolutely loved Before I Ever Met You, it was so exciting to get another standalone romance that involved characters I loved so much but in a refreshing new storyline. Emmett and Alyssa's romance is a complete 180 from what their friends went through in their book, but the personalities I fell hard for in Before I Ever Met You added humor and lightness to this sometimes heavy story. And I just adored that. (You don't have to read Will and Jackie's book before you read this one but I highly recommend reading it at some point because it's just too good to skip!) If you've already read it, well, you'll be just as excited as I was to get more from Will and Jackie as they help their friends navigate their rocky situation in After All. If you haven't read it yet, know that Emmett and Alyssa's story is a satisfying romance all by itself but I wouldn't be surprised if you immediately want to run to see exactly what lead up to the wedding that got this ball rolling in the first place.

After All is much more than a sexy publicity stunt between strangers. This book is definitely steamy, the dialogue between Emmett and Alyssa made me blush; it drips with innuendo when it isn't being shot back and forth in the throes of passion. It's hot... so, so hot. After All is also laced with humor with Halle's smart wit peeking through at just the right times, giving a lighthearted quality to an otherwise messy situation. But Emmett's story is gritty, layered with some heavy truths, some hard hitting issues that feel all too real at times. In typical Karina Halle fashion, this sticky, sensual romance puts a spotlight on an ugly topic we don't want to acknowledge but one that shouldn't be ignored. Karina Halle does this again and again in her books and she does it well, weaving real world issues into stories that are not only meant to sweep us away, but also ground us in a bit of cold hard truth. After All is the full package. It's one of Halle's sexiest stories, one of the sweetest. It's full of angst and emotional uncertainty but it's also laced with friendship and humor and drama that never quit. It's an entertaining page turner and it's going on my long list of Karina Halle novels that I'd recommend to anyone looking to fall right off the cliff with characters you can't help but fall in love with.

"She's my first act and she'll be my last. There will never be anyone else for me."

Karina Halle is now officially number 2 on my list of Most Read Authors with 24 books. What I love most about her writing is that she can do it all. She has written books in so many different genres and I have enjoyed them all. So I am always up for a new book by her. Normally, the fake relationship trope doesn't do it for me that much. However, I really enjoyed it in this book. I think the biggest reason for that, was because of the very interesting characters. I was hooked on Emmett right away, and he got me all hot and bothered. I loved how they first met, and I really liked that Alyssa didn't fall all over him right away. However, the chemistry between them was incredible. I loved their banter and their sexy foreplay. Emmett definitely found a woman who could stand up to him. She said what was on her mind without a filter, and that really made me appreciate her. However, you shouldn't always judge a book by its cover. Alyssa made some assumptions about Emmett that weren't completely true, and it sometimes resulted into emotional scenes.

I really loved how they interacted, and enjoyed the character development for both of them as individuals and as a couple. It had a very organic growth and nice flow. The writing was great as always and easy to read. This book had some very funny moments that made me laugh, but also sad ones that had me tearing up. One thing I didn't like was the drama at the end, it felt a bit forced and could've definitely been left out in my opinion. It did trigger something in the characters but it felt a bit cliche and unnecessary. Overall After All was a great stand-alone contemporary romance with awesome characters. I also loved catching up with Will and Jackie (from Before I Ever Met You), and wouldn't mind other characters from this book getting their own story.

At about two thirds in, I'm just not feeling it, I'm afraid. I've been struggling ever since the prologue, which was just so overwrought I had a hard time not rolling my eyes. I don't like prologues anyway, but this one was particularly bad as it dwells on Emmett's druggy mother and goes all the way up to her death . . . and then stops. Prologues are supposed to give us insight or lead-in for story or character. The entire impact of that event occurs after it happens so stopping there is just stupid. It would have been far more informative if that had been the start of the prologue. Or, even better, skip doing a prologue and just show the result like you do any other aspect that goes into a character.

The rest of the story has been frankly bland. Emmett is a stock celebrity bad-boy and not much else (random bits like visiting the ole hood come across as very try-hard and deliberately "edgy"). Alyssa has sparks of originality as a curvy girl with an unapologetic sexual appetite but everything else just feels tacked on from there. Including a mid-story reveal that Which came literally out of nowhere with zero evidence or indication preceding it. I mean, at the very least, that fact should have played into her willingness to accept (or reject) Emmett's offer in the "let's do a fake relationship" phase.

Once we got to that reveal, I had a hard time taking anything seriously, any more, and I didn't last long. It turns out that sex is the only thing keeping them together, anyway (and a made-up publicist stunt that was thinner than an actor's modesty), so it's not like I'm invested in the characters or their developing feelings. It doesn't help that both have motivations that amount to "I can't possibly admit this might be real because I don't ...". For Emmett, he doesn't do real and relationships never work out (yeah, that silly trope) and for Alyssa she doesn't buy that he'll stick around so why get her heart broken? So Emmett's motivation is inherently negative* and Alyssa's is dependent on him committing first.

So yeah, it's a mess. They have great sex. Yay! And they talk about their great sex and that draws them together. Or something. Otherwise, this is all just so many meandering events with random connecting scenes.

* Negative Motivations: I kind of hate that the term "negative motivation" isn't widespread, yet. Since it isn't, I'm going to save off this little jag to append to my reviews that feature the term. Jennifer Crusie blogged about it a bit back (or, if that link doesn't work, here's a cache of the original) and it changed how I understand story. The problem with the term is that if you've never heard it before, you'd assume it meant motivations that are harmful or immoral. Not so. What it refers to is motivations not to do something. The thing is that many of us are motivated to not do things for a lot of different, perfectly valid and reasonable, reasons. The problem is that in a story motivations to not do things are a huge drag on the plot—particularly considering the fact that most negative motivations are overcome by the character simply deciding they don't care any more (or, rather, that they do care and are now motivated to do the thing). So not only do you have a counter to action but you also have a situation where to overcome it, all a character has to do is change their mind. Which means eventually, the reader is rooting for the character to get over him/herself already and do the thing we want them to do. Conflict drives story. Conflict between a reader and a main character drives readers away from story.

This book was just meh.

To be honest I expected much more from this writer. I didnt get that "awww" feeling from this book. I didnt get excited as I usually do. I looooove enemies to lovers stories but this wasnt like that. Their banter lasted for like a second so I didnt get to enjoy it as much as I wanted to.
Some of the things that he said at the beginning were hot, his dirty talk was fun. But then it all kinda stopped and it was the typical story. Nothing more. I am kinda bummed.

4 Romantic Crowns

Karina Halle has created another old school romance that really focuses on wooing a woman and finding the one. Her old school heroes, who are a tad broken, and heroines, who are filled with their own imperfections, read as a real-life romance with all the most swoon-worthy moments.

Emmett Hill, unlike most Hollywood heroes, is a rather sympathetic character. He has the charm and charisma needed for a romantic hero, but his background and resulting effects on his development as a character are unique. His resulting "bad-boy" behavior is completely understandable, and, honestly, makes readers like him.

Alyssa is unique as a heroine for several reasons. First, she is not your average thin heroine, and, while I love this about her, I wish there would have been less commentary about it. If she is the "normal woman" then it should be a non-issue and not a main component of her character. Second, she is "prickly," to borrow a term from the characters. This actually worked for me. The fact that she wasn't a say anything to please the hero, push-over heroine made her endearing.

While this couple had a believable and authentic romance, the spark between them was lost to me. There are steamy scenes and getting to know you moments that are components of any good romance. The pacing is spot on. The author allows the reader to see them move genuinely from hate to like to love. The conflict is believable and alluded to throughout the plot development of the story, and the resolution and epilogue are perfect.

For whatever reason, these two just didn't have that spark for me. The story is great. I enjoyed the writing and the plot line. The characters are likable and sympathetic, and they work together as a couple. It is definitely a book I would recommend, but it won't be among my favorites of Ms. Halle's.

After All is the perfect summer read where you can sit back and enjoy a book that will guarantee to give you butterflies, sexy times, laughters, and heart melting moments. The Prologue was intense and raw when we learned about Emmett's childhood. Emmett is a 38 year old actor who meets Alyssa at his best friend's wedding. Emmett is attracted to Alyssa from the first moment he sees her and I love the banter between these two. My goodness Emmett basically speaks aloud all his thoughts particularly the things he wants to do to her. I love this trait in him and Alyssa's reaction to it. I also love everything he wants to do to help those in need and provide a better future for them, give them hope.
As usual, Karina Halle transports to the setting living everything as if we were in Vancouver with her descriptions and details.
This is a novel with characters that felt real, complemented each other and followed their hearts.

I have a confession. I LOVE EMMETT MORE THAN WILL!

Okay. Now that that’s out of my chest, let me proceed to my love for Emmett and Alyssa! I loved the wit, the tension, and the attraction between these two! After All was such a sexy, smart, and delicious read!

What a man, to have that face, that body and that cock and still know exactly what to do with it.

Emmett Hill did not have the best and brightest moments in his celebrity life but his PR always found a way to take care his image. So when a hot one-night stand with Alyssa Martin started to put another chip on his name, his PR had an immediate solution--make it look real. From the very first chapter of this book, I was so sure this man would own my heart. And I was definitely right. Behind Emmett’s handsome, cocky, and confident facade was a man filled with experience, insights, and heart.

She's my first act and she'll be my last.

Alyssa Martin has never felt a craving for change as much as she did now. She had the will but no means. So when an opportunity to be paid to pretend as Emmett Hill’s girlfriend popped out of nowhere, she grabbed it. Emmett Hill was just supposed to be an opportunity…until he became her heart’s liability. I loved the spunk of this woman! She was independent, smart, and driven. There was no question about her will, drive, and heart. But I did love exploring her vulnerable side as well and how Emmett answers it so beautifully.

There are no cliffs of love for us to leap off of here. Just one big wall, signed with ink.

I really really enjoyed this book! The banters were just my total favorite! Emmett being the cocky beast he was, Alyssa being a sassy woman, and both such quick-witted creatures, I couldn’t help but love every word they say to each other. There’s a constant pull of attraction between the two of them that made every page impossible to leave. Two very distinct people existing in two very different worlds bound by the same passion, love, and drive towards life and each other. They were driven to avoid a Happily-Ever-After but that’s where they were meant to end up at after all.

After All is one of Karina Halle’s highs; a complete package of laughter, wit, romance, and a whole lot of heart.

Don't catch feelings. You might not be as immune as you think.
