New York Times bestselling author, Food Network star, and The Pioneer Woman herself, Ree Drummond, is back with the second book in the Little Ree picture book series! Little Ree and her best friend, Hyacinth, love learning to bake with their grandmothers, especially when pie is on the menu. So when they find out about a pie-baking contest at the fair, they can’t wait to enter. But Little Ree and Hyacinth don’t want to bake just any pie, and they want to pick their own berries. Can the two friends bake the best pie ever and take home the blue ribbon? With warmth and humor, Ree Drummond’s new picture book reminds us of the essential ingredients for friendship and treats us to a delicious blueberry pie recipe at the end.
Ree Drummond began blogging in 2006 and has built an award-winning website, where she shares recipes, showcases her photography, and documents her hilarious transition from city life to ranch wife. She is the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling cookbook The Pioneer Woman Cooks. Ree lives on a working cattle ranch near Pawhuska, Oklahoma, with her husband, Ladd; their four kids; their beloved basset hound; and lots of other animals.
A super cute book about Ree and her best friend, Hyacinth. Illustrator, Jacqueline Rogers did a fabulous job in helping to tell the story through her pictures!
wholly unremarkable, from the text to the story to the illustrations. it's also way too long for most kiddos, and there's nothing here that makes it at all interesting. this is definitely an attempt to extend the pioneer woman brand, and it shows.
This was such a cute book! I think that the illustrations are very well done and quite intriguing. It was a lot of reading this book as it gave readers a glimpse into the friendship of two girls and into the friendship of two grandmas. I think this story is a sweet one that everyone can relate to in one way or another. It is evident the little adventure that the friends go on to find berries is able to strengthen their friendship. Something I noticed repeatedly throughout this book was the attention to detail! So many detailed elements such as the little flowers and bugs are fun additives. I also think the facial expressions on the faces of the characters are quite noteworthy because they allow the reader to further understand the friendship and the emotions attached to it.
I think this would be a book I would have in my classroom library under the category of friendship. I think this book is a fun read for children and also a great example in terms of friendship building. I could also see myself reading this book to students and then talking about friendships. In this book the girls baked pies together. I could encourage my students to go bake something at home with either a friend or family member and take pictures as part of a relationship building assignment.
I love how this book tries to reinforce the strengths of country girls and their imaginative, can do, everyone helps out, think on your feet, never give up attitude. It's good to be proud of your heritage. And I think that this book could help countries girls have more pride in being a country girl. (Not saying that they don't already have a lot of pride in that).
I think kids who love stories like "Little House on the Prairie" or "Anne of Green Gables" will really enjoy this book. In fact, this could get kids interested in the aforementioned classics. It would certainly work really well for older kids wanting to transition to chapterbooks or mid-grade.
It's nothing super original....but I am a sucker for everything Pioneer Woman. Yep. Yep. Even if her stuff can be mediocre at times. I do adore this story (especially know that Hyacinth) is still a friend of hers to this day.
I also really want to make the pie in the back of the book ;)
Little Ree, and her best new friend, Hyacinth, enter a pie baking contest, but before they enter their pie, they must gather all the ingredients and supplies, and that's half the fun for these two BFF's. Their award winning pie recipe is located at the end of the book.
The two friends in this book are such a lucky pair to have each other. The reader benefits from their endeavor as their pie recipe is included in the back of the book. Having made the recipe myself I can attest it is very delicious. Enjoy the read and then bon appetit!
A cute story to enjoy with my grandkids. As an adult that is familiar with Ree Drummond and her show, I found humor in it. I like the recipe included at the end of the book.
I recently checked this book out at the library for my daughter and I to read together. We both really enjoyed it! I liked the cute pictures and the sweet story about a little girl and her best friend. My daughter likes the book as the characters were fun and lively as well as relatable. I thought this was a cute book that fosters both the importance of friendship and creativity.
