The high-octane sequel to Outbreak! James and Connor face increasing hardships that will leave them with two give up or become battle born!
After the events in Nebraska, the Andderson brothers continue their trek northward, joined by Emmett and the girls. The group makes their way through Wyoming to meet up with Tank, the brothers’ best friend from a time before the apocalypse.
They’re delayed when they stumble upon a school full of over a hundred survivors—most of them children. While Connor disagrees with James’s choice to help them, he follows his brother’s lead as a series of drastic events makes James the unspoken leader of the large group. Responsibility weighing heavily on James’s shoulders, they resume their journey north to rendezvous with Tank.
Zombies become the least of their concerns as the group faces a new enemy hell-bent on their destruction. When the situation goes from bad to worse, the brothers are confronted with the horrible reality that no matter how prepared you are, at the end of the world, death is always right around the corner.
The Brother's Creed (Completed Series): Book 2 of 5This is a post-apocalyptic novel of approximately 50,000 words. Story contains a cliffhanger.

Look at me continuing another series I started last year! (Who am I to be so responsible like this? 🤪😆) A series I’m really enjoying too! This genre isn’t normally my thing since I discovered last year how graphic and gory most zombie apocalypse stories are, but I’m really growing to love this story and these characters with every book! The faith content is also woven in so organically and thoughtfully I wanted to give it a shout out because I’m very impressed.
James is my favorite character and I feel so much and so badly for him in everything he’s struggling with and how he pushes through despite it all is so inspiring. And his relationship with Olive is so precious. 🥰🥰 Alexis is probably my second favorite character though we didn’t see a lot through her eyes this time around. The other characters are complex and flawed, and I like how they all look at the situations they get into from different perspectives yet manage to work together anyways. And if the two kids and the snake die by the end of the series I’m going to be so sad. 😭
The violence stays about the same as in book one but the language goes up a tad with no f-bombs but several s words, just so people are aware. Also they rescue kids and, yes, several die and turn into zombies though that’s never shown on page, only how the guys have to shoot them after they’re turned, so keep that in mind if you’re sensitive to that kind of thing.
I’m enjoying this series a lot, though that cliffhanger ending was mean! I had to run out and buy book three the next day, so rude!

Fast-paced, an adrenaline filled page turner! I loved it. Immediately intriguing and I enjoy the style of the books--covering so much but not much time passes. I knew I should've gotten the entire series at once, haha!
The story is well paced and full of twists and turns. A super great zombie series. Wow!
THEMES
This is what makes the series better than any zombie franchise out there--the THEMES. God is so prominent in these books. The Wolf Pack believe God has a reason and a place and that He cares... and it really impacts the perspective of the world going to hell. Hard, unfathomable decisions must be made, but God is always there.
I realllyyyy enjoy the themes. The brotherhood themes, importance of loyalty, and faith in God are ASTOUNDING.
CHARACTERS
The Pack are amazing and hilarious and aahhh, my boys. The way they deal with trauma and handle what happens is so realistic and encouraging... and heartbreaking. WOW.
You can't get attached to ANYONE but I DO ANYWAY. And only kinda regret it.
Solid, well-motivated, moving cast!
CONTENT
PG-13 or R. Swearing. Mentions of nudity. Lots of blood, gore, violence.
OVERALL
I NEED BOOK 3 I JUST NEED TO BUY THE COMPLETE SERIES WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME. SO GOOD.
As with the first book, Outbreak, Battle Born is a fast-paced and entertaining read that pulls you right in and never lets up. It is littered with blood, zombies, and bodies—as to be expected in Zombie Apocalypse literature—and the swearing is raised a notch compared to the first book. (Although, to me, it was acceptable considering the characters and situations.)
In this book, the brothers are joined by another group of survivors Emmett, an ex-Marine; his daughter, Alexis; and Ana, a young lady they had rescued as they continue their trek north toward Alaska.
As the days pass and things continue to deteriorate, the body count rises. And not just zombies, but friends and human foes alike. As James puts on a brave front while dealing with the pressures of leading, he begins to experience episodes of PTS. He also has unexpected moments of overwhelming peace which raise the question of God and whether his faith can withstand the carnage and the pain of loss this new world inflicts on survivors.
Once again, though I doubt I’ll ever be a big zombie fan (I’m more of a fantasy reader normally), I recommend Battleborn to any who enjoy the genre and to those who would like to investigate the genre. This is well written. I especially appreciated the inclusion of faith under pressure, as James and Connor become Battleborn. And, I must admit, I am hooked now and plan to read Wolf Pack (book 3) soon.
I don’t give reviews like others, for if you want to read what the book is about, read the 1st few chapters. Don’t really care about grammar or syntax or stuff like that for your brain misses half of that in any event, filling in the blanks automatically. However, it does help if a "typo and grammar dictator" give it a once over. :-) However, the stars given gives the best indication for it is per individual, not like movie reviews where one individual / or a few, rates a movie really bad yet the masses love it. For me it is all about the feelings / ideas / fantasies / "living it" a book gives you, when you “get” into the story, it having grabbing your attention. THOSE are the best books in my opinion.
For Battleborn ... Keep your head in a swivel for the next book. :-)
I enjoyed this second book in the series. The characters are well developed and the addition of faith and a higher power watching over the good guys is a unique twist that I really enjoyed. It isn't an obvious religious plot, so it does not distract from the story if religion is not your thing. Great zombie action and the inclusion of bad groups of people keeps the action going nonstop. I really enjoyed the new character Olive and hope to see much more of her in the next book. Did Mike get away? Will he help with the rescue of the group. So many questions! I wait impatiently for the next book!
An incredible sequel to Outbreak! You really get to know the characters even better and get to watch as a transformation begins in James and Connor as they face the apocalypse head on! You will be sitting at the edge of your seat in anticipation of what happens next! I couldn't put it down once I started!
A great sequel! Full of action and fun adventures. The scenes with all the fighting and shooting were very well described. Nothing cheesy, just straightforward and believable action sequences. Like the characters as well. I got more backstory on people and got to enjoy them a little more.
I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.
The only two problems with this book are that you get more out of it if you have read book 1 first, and that it is too fun to put down and I finished it still wanting to have more to read. I loved this, and would recommend this to anyone who likes action zombie stories.
Book two has better writing, but the “he saids” about drove me insane. Also still too much focus on the guns and not the story. Much of this adventure should be longer not that I would ever want to travel with these guys. Guns or no they get everyone around them killed.
High octane? I guess... What a ride from start to epic finish. I had to stay up late to finish because I couldn't leave the characters hanging! Can hardly wait for the next installment!
What an amazing second book. Such action. James and Connor are superb and I'm definitely ready for the next Received an ARC and reviewed because I loved the book and the author
Great 2nd book! Only issue I had with it was that I read it so fast! Cant wait for the third book to see what happens to everyone. I love the references to the bible and that their faith holds them together. It is nice to read a different take on the zombie genre.
I loved this sequal. I can't wait for the next installment. One may question their faith and morals in a apocalyptic world, something many may struggle with. This book addresses those concerns. I recommend this book for anyone that loves a good zombie book!
An excellent second book in the series ,could not put it down. Would have been 5 stars but hated the way it ended, I am not a big fan of cliffhanger endings in a series.
Battleborn is the second in The Brother’s Creed series and it is packed with twists, turns and complications! I throughly enjoyed it and already started reading book 3!
I don't have any regrets about staying with this series. Good character s situations and tension. The story is well done and most importantly the character s are relatable. If like me you're looking for a good writer to follow this is one. A book to enjoy.
I read the author, Joshua C Chadd's, first book, Outbreak, and, well, it wasn't my favorite. But it was written well enough to keep me reading, and so I picked up the 2nd, Battleborn, immediately after finishing the first. The book continues the zombie-hunting adventures of James and Connor Andderson, this time around their story has merged with Emmet Wolfe and his family from the first book. The group attempts to help those they meet along the way from zombies and other human attackers. I enjoyed this book more than the first one, Josh continues to do an excellent job going deeper into what his characters are dealing with emotionally, mentally, and spiritually from the fallout of the horror of their encounters. The brothers show loyalty, caring, and protectiveness, not just to each other but to others they meet. But they also are unafraid to take a stand and make the hard decisions to keep their group safe when occasion calls for it. I especially enjoyed the brother-sister relationship that James begins to develop with a young girl he rescues, and how the brothers, especially James, are shown as fallible when dealing with their own trauma from past events. Josh does a great job of showing strength mixed with real human weaknesses. And I really appreciate Josh being unafraid to share his own faith through the characters. Both James and Connor are shown struggling with their faith in their own ways, and it felt very real and easy to relate to. The cliffhanger ending, yeah, that was tough to swallow. If I hadn't had Wolf Pack to start reading immediately and had had to wait for the next book, I'd have been more ticked off. Great job! On to Wolf Pack!
I won an electronic copy of Joshua Chadd's Battleborn at the book's launch party on Facebook. The second book of The Brother's Creed Series it starts where Outbreak leaves off covering an intense day or two period for the Anderson crew and their friend Tank whose group appeared near the end of outbreak as they attempt to reunite as a single group. Most of the story plays around Connor and James. This is their book, though Tank gets his chance, as do Emmett and the girls, to have their story included. The action and the emotion are gripping as these boys must adapt to internal and external demons, responsibility and loss, Zombie hordes, and an enemy worse than the undead. The dialogue issue is improving as is character development. This is one book that even those who prefer to pace out their reading may want to read in one sitting (or awkward lounging around if they're like me) if possible. Battleborn does end in a cliffhanger but sets the stage beautifully for the next book. Waiting a year for Wolf Pack's publishing will be difficult. I really enjoy this series and will likely buy print book copies of them as well. Again, some of the funds from the books sales go to Colors of Heroes.
Wow, I enjoyed this story a lot! I liked the first book in the series, but in this one Mr. Chadd took it to a whole new level. Once I started reading I had to know what would happen next. I literally couldn't put it down. I'm so looking forward to reading the other books in the series. I must know where Mr. Chadd is taking us on this journey and can't wait for the end!
The "he said, she said, Tank said etc" ruined it for me. I listened to it, and the narrator almost emphasized it each time. Maybe reading it would have been better. I'm so aggravated; I really wanted to love this series, especially since it's available through The Audible Catalog. I'm going to try the next, but if it's more of the same, I may not make it through.
I did like the way the story was written with the action interweaving with story line, but I felt to much emphasis was placed on what the were wearing and the guns with scopes ,bla bla bla. But good book and fast read.
As was the case with Outbreak, Book 1 in this series, Battleborn is not your average apocalypse story. The characters are so believable that it has me preparing for the end myself. I need a bunker! I give Battleborn 4.6/5🌟
I liked this book, a nice twist on the ZA Universe of books. I liked the characters, the situations the author put them through are great. Well written!
