I don’t want to spoil it, but this issue was a nice solid ending to the Screaming Citadel story. The last page did elicit a massive eye roll from me, but you’ll have to see why for yourself

Is this the end of The Screaming Citadel and the Red Queen?

I think possibly for now, the stopping point for the current story arc and Doctor Aphra will start a new adventure in the next issue within her series (which happens to be an Annual next).

The classic cliff hanger of so many movies/TV shows is presented here... and I am okay with it.

I took a small peek into the next one, the Annual, and I think it's going to wrap-up the Crystal of Rur deal with Aphra. I hope this is the case, being as much as I have been enjoying the current arc... I think it is certainly time for something fresh to get thrown into the mix.

So after this one, an Annual, and THEN jumping back to #9. I sincerely hope that the 'comic crossover' deal is over after this, and I can read #9-40 without having to jump around in and out of numerous different comic book series, minus an Annual here and there - I'm okay with that.

Excellent ending delivered here for The Screaming Citadel, if this is actually the end, for now...

This issue was a slog to get through. While the arc started out strong in Screaming Citadel #1, I honestly can say that I’m grateful it has now come t o a close.

My reasoning:

1) the “Ravenloft”/mind control/Borg/Wrath of Khan/Aliens/whatever you want to call it, grew tiresome as I progressed through the series; especially by this issue

2) the artwork did not impress as I moved through the series (Mr Checchetto’s in the premier issue was the strongest in my view; Ms Broccardo’s the weakest)

3) characterization, especially Han, really grated on me - not believable or realistic in terms of what I’d come to expect of his character thus far.

4) the king/queen obey/submit thing... not having it.

Really wish I had more positive things to say.

But I don’t.

Looking forward to moving on to Out Among the Stars next.

Doctor Aphra #8 brings “The Screaming Citadel” to a fitting conclusion, with there being plenty of action throughout. Despite some of the developments feeling rather sudden, the dynamic tempo and spiritual nature of the issue more than make up for this, with the creative team concluding proceedings with a massive teaser.

Really glad that this is over...ish. Really hate that loose thread at the end that probably won't be picked up and I don't really want to be picked up to be honest. I'm really worried that this will lead to a similar Star Wars / Doctor Aphra crossover.

- The switch in art style is really weird!

- Everything wrapped up way too quickly and conveniently.

- I love how looked overpowered the parasite and killed the queen. Awesome!

- I was wondering if I should buy the Doctor Aphra series, but now I'm glad I'm not reading them. Aphra just isn't for me. I'm glad I read this crossover series though.

I liked the art this issue, but otherwise the story to this crossover arc has been pretty dumb and I'm glad it's over. This issue felt rushed, silly and not very much like a star wars story, hopefully the Aphra series picks up again as I enjoyed it until the crossover event!
