Love Pixies

Rate this book
For three lifelong best friends, a college graduation trip to Ireland is supposed to be their last hurrah before starting their jobs, and taking on the stresses and responsibilities of adult life. Heather, Tiffany, and Amanda are on a mission to turn the Emerald Isle upside down…or at least wreak a little havoc, drink a wee bit too much, and kiss hunky Irish boys…before returning to their hometown of Chicago.

When Rhiannon, a powerful fairy, pays a surprise visit to their adorable, thatched-roof rental cottage in County Clare, and persuades them to sign one-year Love Pixie contracts, their lives are drastically altered. Newly armed with fantastical superpowers, charmed necklaces, and the ability to turn ordinary substances into enchanted pixie dust, the girls join together to fight ‘love crime’ and help assigned couples on the brink of disaster build bridges back to happiness. It all sounds quite exciting, until they realize that learning how to use powerful magic is not only time consuming, overwhelming, and confusing – it’s not easy to hide from their family, co-workers, and most importantly – potential love interests.

To complicate matters even more, the trio is repeatedly tempted by the fairy’s rebellious sister, Aideen, who challenges them to break the rules. Perhaps if they listen to the ‘bad fairy’ they can finish their assignment quicker...and get back to work…and play…before anyone is the wiser.

However, the girls were raised to know that there are consequences to bad behavior – at least in the non-magical world. Afraid to ask if there is such a thing as magical jail, the two more sensible Pixies hope to rein in their most wayward partner - before their contracts are terminated...and their couple’s relationship implodes into a pile of ordinary dust.

Irish pixie magic. A group of friends are chosen to become love pixies. They have a mission and magic to learn. I enjoyed this book. It was long and supplied a lot of background story which I felt was unnecessary but overall a fun read. Rosie O’Toole is a very good narrator and enchanted the story.

This is fun, entertaining and has an amusing charm to it.

DNF 35% But not the bad kind.

There are two kinds of DNFs for me. The first is for books that are just so dear-god-this-is-awful-don't-make-me-read-another-page. The second is for books that I know a lot of people would absolutely love, but I'm just not one of them. This book is the latter. I would rather stop reading a book that isn't my cuppa tea than force myself to finish it and give it a bad rating at the end because I didn't enjoy forcing myself to finish something that wasn't my thing. Especially a review copy.

My main issue was the massive info dump in the beginning. It just didn't work for me. The characters are explained in a few short paragraphs in a distant omniscient kind of style of narration. That's fine but we get just a few short paragraphs. We learn who their parents are what their jobs were, that kind of thing. Then right off the bat, the characters are in Ireland and visited by Rhiannon. (Hell yes with that name. I love Fleetwood Mac. Plus, young Lindsey Buckingham was a fox.) When Rhiannon proves she really is a fairy, the ladies immediately shrug and accept the entire love pixie idea. Then we quickly dive into what it means to be a love pixie, they are given their powers and large books on the particulars, then they are back off to Chicago.

The premise is adorable, but in my opinion, it could have been executed better. Amanda, Tiffany, and Heather all have different powers to help them along with their assignments. One has invisibility, one has the power to teleport, and the other has the power to know when someone is lying. I almost think that the book would have worked better in three parts, one for each of the women. Or three different books. Or a series of short stories. I don't know, something different, you get the point. The book jumps from character to character as they deal with the ramifications of their powers and learning to use pixie dust, but I never connected with any of the three. The book doesn't spend enough time introducing us to them before their trip to Ireland to understand how they are dealing with their new powers. I realize it's really starting to sound like I thought this book was awful, but I swear, I didn't. There's plenty of good things here, especially the romance, which I love, but the style just wasn't for me.

I really liked Amanda, Heather, and Tiffany. I loved that despite how different they were, you can see how they would be friends. They were childhood friends but they stayed friends. I think the major issue here for me was that there was too much information too quickly. For example, the ladies got a visit from Rhiannon's naughtier sister fairy Aideen and it was barely mentioned. I was like wait, what just happened? why isn't this its own chapter?

Despite the fact that I wasn't a fan of the style or the pacing, I know a bunch of people will enjoy this. Looking at the ratings, I know they already have. It's a really cool idea. I mean come on, FAIRY DUST, PEOPLE. FAIRY DUST. I want to be a fairy! Instead, I'm stuck with glitter. Or confetti. Plus I just wanted to use this gif.

This book is like a modern day fairy tale. Scott's way of writing brings me back to the days when I read "Once upon a time..."; it was very refreshing to read a story that had such a different writing style from what we see in contemporary romance and women's novels, yet it was sweetly familiar and made me reminisce about my favorite princess and fairy stories. I think the relationship that the three young women have with one another makes this story even more special. Heather, Tiffany, and Amanda are all unique characters that have strengths and weaknesses that contributed to the plot and I enjoyed reading how each of them worked through their difficulties to grow. The concept of these young women becoming love pixies was really interesting and it was cool to see how it all played out. However, I think the way that they became love pixies was a little off kilter for me; I would have liked to see a little more skepticism or something from modern day women. It just seemed like the girls who already had very fruitful journeys lined up, decided to believe in magic without much thought. I also had a difficult time with one aspect of Scott's writing style in that she often left sentences of character's thoughts unfinished using dots (...). I found this extremely frustrating because I would some times know where the sentence was going, but other times I got lost in the sentence just dropping off. I understand the purpose of utilizing the dots sometimes, but it occurred much too frequently. Overall, I think this book is very sweet, magical, and fun. I recommend it to anyone looking for a charming read that will take you into a very different setting and thought process.

MMy Thoughts and Review:

**This review is for both the e-book (purchase) and audio book (ARC)**

Life long BFFs fresh out of college, ready to take the world by storm. Before they become, "real grown-up" versions of themselves they take one last girl trip together to Ireland. It is here that the three young women make choices that alter the course of their futures... Ehhh... Maybe? Hahahaa...

This was super cute with all the sass, flair, and even innocence I have come to adore in Carol's books. The characters in Love Pixies are sweet and loveable, even when they are driving each other, themselves and even sometimes the reader a little nutty. It's part of their charm.

Rosie O'Toole does an okay job with the narration, especially the Irish accent of the fae. I appreciated that. With three main female characters, I wish she had made them each sound a little different, but it wasn't a hardship that she did not.

The Story is quirky, full of antics, magic and mayhem, and of course, romance. What else could ya need? 💖

A copy of the audio version of this book was given to me by the author. In exchange, I am leaving a review of the book.

This was one of the silliest books I have ever read. I almost put it down but there was a couple of funny things happening. Three best friends go visit Ireland and a fairy appears before them and tells them they have been chosen to become Love Pixies. They are given a special amulet that gives them great powers, i.e. invisibility, transport, stop the time.

Their first assignment is to help an unhappy couple who are expecting their third child. The two are unhappy in their marriage. The woman is ready to deliver a baby girl any day. The husband is enticed by his new assistant.

The friends Pixies, have many adventures trying out their new skills, keeping them hidden from others and finding some love themselves.

I wouldn't really recommend it.

Three friends take a graduation trip to Ireland and come home with a part-time gig that will build bonds, both for the threesome and for their clients in this often romantic comedy by Carol Maloney Scott.
I loved this story and completely enjoyed watching the fledgling Pixies exploring their new powers, bumbling through match making (or match rebuilding) while juggling their real jobs and new romances of their own. The characters are fresh, funny and full of character flaws that make them all the more interesting and the struggle between the girls and the office femme fatale for their client's "soul" is a battle that kept me riveted until the very end wondering whether they'd be successful on their first case.
A good story with an intriguing plot and great characters.

I really loved this book - a unique story line that I really enjoyed although I thought that the writing / delivery of the storyline could have been a little bit better - it jumped from a narration to first person back to narration which wasn't bad but I think could have been better. Anyway - I loved these characters as well as the story line, at times I felt that it was a bit rushed but really - this is such a cute, fun, sweet read. I loved the narrator and the Irish accent she brings was great! I'm really looking forward to reading / listening to more by Scott!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

This is the first in a new series, and I can already tell it's going to be a lot of fun. The three Love Pixies--Tiffany, Amanda, and Heather--have very distinct personalities which complement one another well. While trying to work through their own love lives, they are tasked with helping a couple get their relationship back on track, with the help of their "pixie powers."

If you're looking for a fun, quick read for this summer, this is a perfect candidate.

One aspect I really enjoy while reading is magical realism, so I was quite tickled when a fairy appeared in the beginning to give the friends powers. It was so fun watching as they tried to understand how their life just changed, how to use their powers and how to try to remain normal after their life changed so drastically. The three girls were all so different in personality yet had been friends forever, and I thought each one was interesting to read about. There’s definitely a lot of content in here so sometimes it could feel a bit rushed, but I still enjoyed the writing style and wanted to see how the ending would come about!

I listened to this book while running errands. I found it entertaining and captivating. It has an interesting premise of three young women having magical powers bestowed on them to help others on the brink of disaster build bridges back to happiness.

At times I just wanted to shake Lilia and David. Some people will go to great lengths to get ahead in business to include sabotage.

I thought the spirited Aideen was a good counter to Rhiannon. I liked how the women grew through this contract with the pixies. It was a joy getting to know the three young women.

What a fun reading experience. Three friends, fresh out of college, and beginning their "adult" lives take a trip to Ireland and become love pixies. They have hilarious results while trying to learn how to use their new powers. Each of the three women, experience love, new careers, all while trying to help couples in trouble. This is a funny book and very enjoyable. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a fun read.

This was the first book by Carol Maloney Scott that I have read. I admit that I was a little skeptical about the idea of three love pixies - Tiffany, Amanda, and Heather, being able to affect changes in a couple's life. It seemed rather far fetched an idea because I am not really into all that fantasy, science fiction type genres like when I was young. However, I was pleasantly surprised. This was a good book and I liked it a lot.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Carol is a great writer who really made the lives of these three girls/pixies come to life for me. She created a realistic world with just enough magic in it to make it a light and fun read. I really liked how all three girls had very different lives but were the best of friends and each brought their own special talents together to make them an unstoppable force for helping people.

Fun rom-com with an element of magic twist! As I am one that does not typically read 'fantasy' type books, I was skeptical of reading this book. But I thoroughly surprised and enjoyed the story. A lot happens in the book so be ready!

High jinks abound

A visit to Ireland lands these friends into some magic. Each one has their own magical art. It is fun to see how their form of magic works for each one. Then how they can coordinate each for their assignment.

It was ok. I wanted easy ready for a plane journey and probably wouldn’t have finished it normally. It was all a bit contrived and then the ending seemed to be crammed in to a few pages. I wouldn’t go out of my way to find more in the same vein.

Interesting premise, but the constantly varied POV (multiple characters, including the narrarator) and flowing between first and third person made it difficult to get through.

I stumbled upon Carol's books a few years ago. I have read all of her Rom-Com from the Edge series and have loved them all. I have laughed, cried, felt like I was a part of these women's lives. When she announced she was writing a book with fairies, I was pretty hesitant. Fantasy and Mysticism isn't my cup of tea. Instead, I loved it!!! Carol took her trademark humor and Rom-Com style and added fairies to it. I try not to give away any spoilers in my reviews, so I will just give you the gist of things. 3 best friends graduate college and decide to take a trip to Ireland. While on that trip they are chosen by a fairy to become the Love Pixies. It is their duty to help couples they are assigned to find they way back to each other, help rekindle their relationship. Not only do they need to deal with learning how to use their newly acquired magical powers, each of them are starting new post-graduate careers and looking for their own love interests. Each of the Pixies has a distinct personality that works with the others and helps to balance their groups. While getting their magical feet wet, they end up in hysterical situations. This is a story of discovery for each of the girls as well, as they learn where their weaknesses and strengths lie and how they can use them to their benefit. The girls need to learn how to balance their Pixie duties with their every day lives and how to be successful all around. I enjoyed the book tremendously. Just like her Rom-Com from the Edge series, I laughed, I cried, I felt like these girls could have been former students of mine. Carol did a wonderful job meshing fantasy with what could be everyday reality. Can't wait to see if there will be other Love Pixie stories, to see where the girls go with their futures as well as their future assignments.
