Pages upon pages of unadulterated juvenile quill-pig cuteness. I am now more convinced than ever that they are pretty much just spiky puppies with climbing instead of running abilities.

Have you ever had a situation in which you had to contemplate, "How do you spank a Porcupine"? Well, now you have your answer. "How Do You Spank A Porcupine?" is a fun little memoir about a man named Ronald Rood, his family and their pet porcupine. "Piney", the oh so clever name given to their little porcupine, came from the dense forest of Vermont, before being found as a baby and adopted into the Rood household. This may come as a surprise, but porcupine can apparently be tamed and even taken on long trips. As piney was, to be shown as an exhibit for one of Rood's new books. During the year Piney lived with the Rood family, they had quite the adventure. They learned that with their sharp little yellow teeth, porcupine will eat just about anything, including exotic orchids from Hawaii, old lady's umbrellas, prized clovers and Christmas trees. They learned that a porcupine can get along with just about anyone, from a room full of school children or thousands of spectators at a fair. They even learned that as domesticated as a porcupine may seem, they will eventually wander back home to the forest they came from. In New England, porcupine have a bad reputation, they are known for throwing their quill and eating anything with salt or wood, but this book will change that perspective of this adorable creature to one that is just living based on its instincts who can actually be rather nice. "How Do You Spank A Porcupine?" is a great, fast read if you are looking for something cute and fun! I thoroughly enjoyed it.

C+. nonfiction, porcupine, Vermont, Mom's stash, discard. Interesting and educational. Although I understand the circumstances, I still had trouble with this family raising a porcupine.

Delightful, true story. I will never 'see' a porcupine the same again.

Loved this book. I knew Ron and always found him entertaining. My dad was always helping wild animals.

This was an interesting books. I have read a lot of wild animals as pets or sick +/or young wild animals cared for until they can care for themselves, seals, otters, raccoons, robins, hummingbirds, etc. This was my first porcupine one. They appear to have more character than I ever imagined.
