Excitement blossoms through Peridale when a prestigious gardening magazine picks the village as the spotlight for their next issue, but that joy quickly turns to dread when members of the local gardening society, The Peridale Green Fingers, start dying one by one after their obituaries are sent to The Peridale Post the day before their murders.
Julia is asked to bake macarons for the magazine's unveiling of 'The Best Garden in Peridale' party, but with death striking the village, she has more important things to worry about. Is somebody killing The Green Fingers’ to better their chances of winning the title as well as the cash prize, or is there something more sinister happening? With her old friend and newspaper reporter, Johnny, by her side, Julia must uncover the truth before every member of the club is crushed like an unwanted weed.
AGATHA FROST, an Amazon bestselling author, has written over thirty mystery novels. She lives in the North West English county of Lancashire with her two cuddly beagles and one cat.
When Agatha isn’t writing, she loves reading head-scratching mysteries and thrillers, coffee, baking, and exploring her local countryside on long dog walks.
From a young age, Agatha devoured the great British murder mystery books and television shows, ample inspiration for her Peridale Café and Claire’s Candles series. She loves writing about family women who juggle their ordinary village lives with the challenges of amateur sleuthing.
Add in some good food, close friends and family, cute pets, and plenty of twists and turns, and you have a classic Agatha Frost mystery.
Macarons and Mayhem is even better than my previous favourite Doughnuts and Deceptions. I just couldn’t put it down…. A gardening magazine comes to Peridale and offers a 10,000 pound cheque for the best garden. The members of Green Fingers garden club are out of their minds about this. But then members of the club are being murdered and gardens vandalized. Johnny, Julia’s old friend and reporter of the Peridale newspaper, asks Julia for help when he receives the obituaries before the victims deaths.
*Thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this page turner*
This is the seventh book in the Peridale Cafe mystery series by Agatha Frost.
Nothing is ever what it seems in Peridale. When a gardening magazine comes to town to judge the best garden to put into the pages of their magazine, all the gardeners go crazy trying to make the grade. Behind the scenes, someone is sabotaging competitor’s gardens. Julia’s reporter friend Johnny uncovers a plot to kill off some of the original members of the Green Fingers club by causing what looks like accidents but are instead murder!
The author was able to pack a lot of story into fewer pages than her last book. That always amazes me. I liked getting to know Johnny. Having him by her side made it a lot easier to investigate. Whenever DI Brown is with her, she has to go by the book and that doesn’t always work out well for Julia.
This was another mystery that I needed Julia to show me whodunit. I had no clue. The only thing that would have made this better for me was if Julia had won that contest after she confessed someone else had fixed up her flower boxes. LOL!
Jessie is becoming a better and better cook as the books fly by. In no time she may have her own franchise of Julia’s cafe. Great mix of everyday life paired with the whodunit mystery.
If you love a good cozy mystery, check this one out and decide for yourself.
We find out more about Barker, Jessy is dating and growing up, Dot is a bit calmer than usual lol, Julia is Julia.
I like her struggle baking the macarons throughout the book. Makes it relatable because Ive heard those cookies are really hard to me.
Barker is adorable in this one. Jessie is dating and we see her making friends. We see how well the family Julia created is forming in front of her eyes.
I dont like to talk to much about the mystery to not ruin it. This one was just as fun to solve as the others.
Even though the clues can be convenient and the mysteries aren't too complex, there's just something about this series. The characters and the cute town are just so fun to follow.
I thoroughly enjoyed this return to Peridale. Who knew belonging to a garden society could be so deadly! The characters are well developed and interesting and the whodunit kept me guessing. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Overall I liked this book. I wasn't a big fan that so many people died. I get why the person did it. I would be mad too. However, the people in the club weren't very likable. The good news is that the person was caught and all is well for now.
The opening scene is Julia attempting to teach Barker how to bake, and having a very difficult time of it. Later Julia was asked to make the one baked good that has always given her trouble - Macaroons. I liked the parallel between the two.
The mystery this time involved members of the gardening club being murdered, but made to appear as accidents. No one probably would've realized they were not if the killer didn't send an obituary to the newspaper before the death.
There were several possible suspects and it wasn't obvious who the culprit was - always more enjoyable when that happens!
Agatha Frost does it again!! An excellent mystery in Peridale, very interesting and had me in a state of who done it!!!! Julia and her detective skills, Detective Inspector Barker should hire her!!!
This time the Green Fingers Club, the local gardeners, bring a very reputable magazine to town to judge everyone's gardens. Who will win first prize of 10,000 pounds and best garden or will the murders in Peridale ruin the contest? Who is killing founding members of the club???
I love the mystery and putting the puzzle together with Julia. Jessie with her teenage attitude, I really enjoy watching her blossom!!! Dot and Sue are back too!! Of course all the delicious goodies Julia and Jessie create make for a sweet read!
I don't want to give anything away, so I will say, this series has been awesome. I am not a mystery book reader, at all, until I read Agatha and I wouldn't miss these for anything!!
Another fun one. As usual, I enjoyed the characters- in particular, Julia and Barker. I like seeing the growth in Jesses character. There were quite a few possible suspects this time which made it interesting to follow Julia's puzzle solving. Looking forward to the next one
This one involves a gardening club, a gardening competition, a gardening magazine, sabotage, and murder. There is also a bit of romance for one of the younger characters. I was expecting a different ending to all of it. I was hoping someone else would win the competition.
Who knew the beauty of a garden could bring out the ugliest in people. The local garden club is being paid a visit by a magazine, and with that a contest for best garden. But being the best takes over and what happens next is murder, power struggles and old wounds that rise to the surface. Julia is once again at her finest, with her old friend Johnny, Another Peridale murder mystery is solved!!
This book was a wonder addition to the Peridale Cafe Mystery! I loved getting to know more about Julia and Barkers relationship! I am so excited that he is writing his own book! How cool!
I was shocked that it took me so long to figure out the "Who Dun It!" For a good majority of the book I had about 3 or 4 people in my mind that could be the killer. It wasn't until the last 20-25 pages of the book that I found out who the murderer was.
It did break my heart, because you completely understand why the murderer went haywire and killed three people and attempted to kill a fourth. That doesn't make it right, but I agreed with Julia that you couldn't help but feel bad for them.
Overall this was a really good book. I am excited to read the next one! What other adventures is Julia going to take us on!?!
I really enjoy these short and sweet cozy mysteries. In this installment, a gardening magazine is coming to Peridale to judge the best gardens in the community. A £10,000 prize award is being given to the winner. When club members start dying off, however, Julia is on the case.
If you're looking for a quick read with likable characters, no profanity, and non-graphic murders, this series is for you. It's not necessary to read these in order but the main characters are typically in each book so it's nice to read earlier installments just to know their histories.
Macarons and Mayhem another amazing book by Agatha Frost. In this book Julia is at it again trying to figure out who is killing the older people of the Peridale gardening club. I highly recommend Reading this book and the rest of the series.
Not my favorite in the series but the mystery was actually rather interesting and pretty convoluted. I do question how good a detective Barker is. He must have no ego at all to stay with Julia when she constantly solves mysteries he can't.
Agatha Frost takes us back to Peridale for a whole new mystery and seriously, this series has been fantastic from the start and just gets better and better! In this installment, Peridale is being featured in a garden magazine and are even coming to look at the Peridale gardens and award a nice cash prize for the best garden. This gets the Green Fingers, the gardening society, all excited but then bodies start turning up and gardens are being destroyed. And, once again, Julia finds herself investigating these mysteries, as well as figuring out how to bake a few hundred macarons for the upcoming party.
I LOVED this book, all of it, from start to finish. I really feel like I have gotten to know these characters and am so attached to them. I adore Julia and Barker together, in their sweet moments and also as they interact with Jessie. The mystery was fun and Agatha Frost kept me guessing, I had my ideas but then there'd be a new twist - love it! It is always such a ride, following Julia's intuition and her ability to sort through the gossip and the truth in her village. There's also a great blend of revisiting old characters and getting to know some new ones too.
This really is such a fantastically fun series and I look forward to every book and as soon as I finish I'm excited about the next one. Agatha Frost has created a wonderfully entertaining little world that I just can't get enough of. And on a side note, one of my very favorite things about this story was Julia figuring out the macarons because these cookies have recently become my new cooking obsession so that was just bonus fun for me! I highly recommend this book and series!
I’m glad I picked this cute lil series up to read. Although I feel Julia - the main character - is a completely nosy and sometimes annoyingly in-your-face-with-questions lady, she honestly has a good heart and just wants the truth and justice and often puts herself in the line of danger to get it.
Julia has a sidekick named Barker who is actually not only her boyfriend, but also an detective inspector. Oh, and he isn’t actually her sidekick, because Julia works alone and mulls things out in her own mind and ignores when Barker and anyone else speaking reason tells her to not do something and to be careful. But, she’s still a good person and she’s growing on me as I get to know her character better.
I really like Jessie and watching her mature into a beautiful young lady. I don’t know if she’ll end up with Billy in the long run, but she’s young still and has a long life ahead of her with room for mistakes and have possibly more than one love.
In this particular story, Spring is in the air and so is death. Johnny, a reporter at the local magazine goes to Julia for help when he connects the dots of two recent deaths possibly being premeditated and not accidental like authorities think. It takes some questioning, some garden whacking, and a pungent pink substance for things to finally come together. Will Julia expose the real killer before someone else is arrested for the blame?
I’ll be kept occupied for a couple of weeks with this series because there are 26 books to it with each book being at least 200 pages. Yay!
Macaroons and Mayhem by Agatha Frost is the nest best book in this thrilling mystery series! I love her books. Agatha Frost has once again, proven that she is queen of the cozy mystery genre. There's so much to love about her writing. Fast-paced, exciting, romantic, hilarious, deadly, and plenty of drama to keep me busy as always.
The main character, Julia South, is my all time favorite sleuth. A baker at heart who has the ability to become the best world known detective. She always solves every case. Wherever Julia goes, there's always a murder mystery to solve. In this case, more than one person dies and a fourth victim as or may not survive the attack. Someone is targeting a garden club. The top members are being killed one by one. Unless the police can figure it out, more people will die. That's when Julia is called to the case. An investigative journalist friend comes to her after the police mocks him. He thinks he's stumbled upon a murder investigation. But even Julia is skeptical....but as the events unfold her skeptics may changes and she's on the hunt. Macaroons and Mayhem has proven to be Julia South's toughest case yet. Overall, I loved reading this new mystery. I can't wait to read the eighth book. Agatha Frost is beyond talented.
I got this copy from the publisher. This, is my honest review.
Ijust love this series and it's only getting better with each new book! One of the thungs I live about this book is how much Jessie has grown and gained confidence. She really never ceases to surprise me. All of the characters are wonderful and it's nice to see them show up book after book, and I love Julua and her family. It seems as if a few characters have luttle surprises up their sleeves this time. Peridale is a cozy English village and perfect for these stories. It's funny to thing of it as quiet while all the drama plays out and murders take place. The story is always well written, unique and interesting. Dezpite the cafe keeping her busy, Julua always finds herself involved in the latest crime spree. Barker is a very good detective but Jie always seems to be at least one step ahead of him. She's smart and observant, and no matter what, is always able to piece together the small details. Another great thing about this series, the next book will be out soon so I don't feel like I have been left too long for the next adventure for Julia, Jessie, Barker and Dot.
'I don't go searching for death' 'No,but it somehow always finds you.'
Book 7,and again,a very fitting cover design that appeals to the reader, and adds to the rest of this much loved series! As the blurb gives enough away, things are happening in the quirky village, the Peridale Green Fingers Garden Society are falling victims to death and of course Julia is on the case to find out who is responsible. There are new character's alongside one's we've seen in previous books, yet it can easily be read as a Standalone, and that is down to the writing, but for those of us who have been following Julia,Barker,Jessie etc, each book is a welcome addition, and the twists and turns, mixed in with everyday life in the village,ongoing/budding romances, some funny moments (usually due to Dot-Julia's Gran) make it an enjoyable experience-even with the sinister side of murder! I haven't gone into any great detail,as it would spoil the story-read it for yourselves! I can't wait for the next book!
REVIEWING FOR ROCK HARD ROMANCE by Vicki RHR RATING 5*/5
If you enjoy a well written good cozy mystery with great characters, intrigue and fun, alongside delicious sweet creations all set in a beautiful English village, this is the series for you. I look forward to each new tale and haven't been disappointed. This time it's the gardeners of Peridale in competition with each other that sees Julia investigating episodes of sabotage and more than one murder. With the help of her family & friends she sorts through the red herrings in her usual style to unearth the culprit. Although each book can be read as a stand alone novel, when read in order it's great to see the characters & their relationships with each other develop. Please keep them coming.....

„Macarons and Mayhem” is a seventh book in Peridale Cafe Mystery series by Agatha Frost.
Julia South is a baker in Peridale. This time there’s a lot of excitement in this small town due to prestigious gardening magazine’s visit. Everyone is enjoying attention they’re getting until members of the local gardening society ‚The Peridale Green Fingers’ start to die, one by one.
Wow! This book is another amazing one in this series. It was full of twists and turns. I couldn’t figure out a murderer until the very end. Apart from that I also genuinely loved to read about Julia’s family. I adore them all.
This series keeps getting better with each book. In this book baker extraordinaire, Julia South, finds herself in the middle of a strange mystery. The town's Green Fingers, garden club has finally caught the attention of a huge gardening magazine, and they are coming to Peridale to award a large prize for best garden. But Julia soon discovers everything is not so rosy with the club and it's members. It seems that someone is killing off the garden club members, and Julia must quickly solve this mystery before all of the town's gardeners disappear. Totally enjoying this delightful cozy series. Great for an afternoon read.
Julia's on the case again! This book was just as gripping and intriguing as I've come to expect from Agatha. This time there are multiple murders and you can feel Julia's frustration at not being able to solve the mystery quicker. I enjoyed this aspect though as I got to play detective a bit more than in previous books where I couldn't figure it out at all. It's nice to go on this journey with Julia because she's usually a whole lot smarter than me! The developing romance between Jessie and Billy is really sweet and Dots ever present quick-wit is a joy as always. Keep em coming!

Every time I visit Peridale I get so hungry as I always can smell the aroma coming from Julia's cafe. Seeing Barker trying to bake macaroons was comical but that is what love does ... The mysterious happenings that were occurring kept me completely focused, I thought I knew who the culprit or culprits were but~~~~~ Jessie and Billy -- not so shy now and how I adore these two. Agatha Frost writes with a flowing hand and a very descriptive mind that has me wanting more.... *** Was given this ARC for an honest review ***
