In this book, relationship expert Dr Elmore sheds light on the hidden emotional psychological recesses of the black man's inner world. In firm and engaging language, he provides advice and real-life anecdotes from his seminars and radio talk shows.
This was pretty interesting, I began laughing at myself because oh boy could I relate to some of this information I was reading. It is an eye opener, if you actually pay attention and understand what your reading it will make so much sense. You definitely have to have an open mind when reading this book if not it’s very pointless in you reading the book.
The break downs of love substitutes, just wow it really puts something’s into prospective. If you so happen to be someone who falls under all of them, then you better take some good notes throughout your read. Either way take some notes about what you’re reading even if you only have one of the love substitutes.
Read this book for sure if you are one that loves Black Men!
This book was presented to me by co-workers of mine as we started our first book club. Its amazing!! I learned a lot about myself and about my man by reading this book. There were great points given by Dr. Ronn that I saw very true by comparing some of the current issues me and my man had gone through in our communication to one another which has helped me relax mentality on the things I didn't a understand about him or myself. It just helped me see someone things that I do need to work on as a girlfriend and a future wife in my relationship. And encouraged me to be okay with some things that I may never understand about my man that keeps our relationship interesting and compassionate at all times. The suggestions the Dr stated were Christian principle based in a gracious and non- judgmental way towards the both of us men and women. Ladies, it's must read! But you have to have patience with yourself and the one you love to get good results in improving yourself and your relationship with your lovely black man. ;)
I'm just starting to read this book. The author Ronn Elmore was the guest speaker at my churches Marriage Retreat this year. He is awesome!!!!! Don't let the title fool you, this book is for all women!
This book is amazing it showed me that I need to change my style in loving a black man and to see both sides for a change instead of being the victim of hurt because I too have done so damage in the past.....
Very good read I needed some inspiration and this book definitely helped. Not only does it help women to understand love it helps us understand ourselves better.
This book is filled with practical advice on love relationships for Black women to more easily be in love with the Black man she chooses. The book reads in a gentle tone. It isn't pointing the finger or blaming either party for what goes wrong in relationships. It focuses solely on how to make them better and uses stories that just about all of us can relate to in order to help women embrace the truth.
What I REALLY appreciated was the brevity of the book. Elmore didn't waste time being redundant like a lot of authors do. He was straight to the point which made this an easy and exciting read. One drawback was the lack of information on the five "love substitutes". He went over these briefly and although I found the information valuable, I felt like he left me hanging. The love substitutes made me question "why" I adopted these traits. And furthermore, I wanted to know how to change them. This was not covered.
Still, this book is perfect for Black women who want to understand Black men. Especially if you weren't taught how to relate to them. It helps you to unpack things about yourself and it helps you to accept some things for what they are when it comes to men such as the fact that they're much different from us. Plain and simple.
I'm recommending this book to all of my clients and to Black men and women no matter their relationship status. We need it!
I didn't even finish reading this book. Not really sure why. Mayb ill come back to it. It had some information in it, but I guess at the moment I'm just not interested. I feel like if we can work on ourselves to make ourselves happy and healthy individuals a lot of the things that are in the book won't be an issue for you. So that's my focus focusing on becoming a loving, happy healthy individual. No offense to Ron, I did enjoy listening to his lecture on YouTube though. (Had to give him a plug, since I ever so gracefully dismissed his book- lol.)
