Sid is tasked to investigate a woman suspected to have connections with a rebel group. The only way for him to know more about her is to move in as her roommate. His task was to keep an eye on her but the moment he laid eyes on her, he knew it was not going to be easy. She sure is the ‘Person of Interest’ of his investigation but the moment he lays his eyes on her, he is thinking about everything but the task at hand. The attraction towards his wildly beautiful suspect is undeniable!Just when Sid was about close his investigation and declare her innocence and claim her as his, he finds out something about her that changes everything. The Royal Roommate is a contemporary royal romance with a happily ever after.
This is the first book I have read by this author, so going in, I was not sure what to expect. But I guess I picked it up because I was looking for a lighthearted romance, as I had just finished reading a very emotionally draining book before this one.
The Royal Roommate however is not just a romance, it's romance meets royal politics meets spy thriller. The author has managed to create an interesting story around these themes, and the plot moves ahead pretty swiftly, with a good number of twists & turns.
However, the downside of an overly fast paced plot was that there wasn't enough character development, and even the love story seemed rushed in the beginning. It was instant attraction that turned to love before I could even blink an eye. Add to that a lot of sex talk & explicit sex scenes, and it made me question if the foundation of this relationship was based on lust vs love.
But that wasn't my biggest issue with the book. My biggest grouse was that there was no real conflict in Sid & Amy's relationship . It hardly had any lows, and whatever small hiccup they faced, they resolved it immediately. I know that in real life that sounds close to ideal, but it's kinda boring in books (or movies, or even real life for that matter!). A little struggle makes every victory, every happily-ever-after that much more sweeter.
And there was plenty of scope where the author could have incorporated the struggle, the tension & conflict in their relationship, but I guess she chose to keep it drama free.
Nonetheless, there was plenty of action outside of the love story, which was kicked into full gear in the second half, and that was a lot more enjoyable for me.
I liked how well the author fleshed out the politics & the history of the land, and I also enjoyed how the narrative slowly unraveled parts of this tale that connected past actions with present day situations, so that the several elements of the story fit together like perfectly synchronized puzzle pieces.
The only thing that I wished was different was the final resolution. It was a little too simplistic for me, although that's just my personal preference, as it was a completely acceptable conclusion on it's own.
All in All: If you lean towards sweeter, slow burn romances, this is not the book for you. However, if you like fast paced plots & more sensuous romances, this might be a good pick for you.
Romance with a pinch of the spy thriller, royalty, and a sizzling chemistry. Waiting for the new roommate and expecting a girl and praying her to be someone who would get along with and BOOM here drops a drop dead gorgeous guy. A royal army man, an absolute hunk, loyal to the core: even if she wanted she couldn’t deny the crazy attraction between them. His royal purpose and need to protect The Swan and his swan. Spies, secret passages, the heir to a throne, people ready to lay their lives to protect their heir to the throne. Beautifully woven stories with some sizzling hot chemistry between the protagonists. Go for this romance with royalty, spy drama, long lost heir etc…
She grew up knowing nothing but an ordinary life full of love. She had a mom, a dad and a brother whom she loved yet the shadows of the past refused to release her from its clutches.
One day finally it caught up with her in the form of an injured man and Sid. The injured man brought Sid into her life as a roommate. She had not bargained for a man as her roommate in the first place and definitely not a hot, virile male who could send her blood boiling with passion with just a look. As the mystery unfolds, Amy and Sid come closer to each other but the dangers that lurk in the shadows cannot be ignored.
Pacing: The pace of the story is good. Every scene merges into the previous one seamlessly and you can follow Amy's journey without missing any turns. It's quite a linear story line with the characters all falling into place.
The love story: Between Amy and Sid is hot and not much of a conflict between them - which I loved. I am fed up of reading why a girl can't have a boy or vice versa. Here they face the difficulties as a team which I found very beautiful. Amy knows she is already in love with Sid, even without knowing his identity. And when she comes to know she does feel the insecurity and the fear - again well executed by Ms. Van.
The Boldness in the story: Definitely not for those who are shy of reading about sex. Ms. Van is a bold writer who is not afraid to indulge into the deepest corners of er - sensual acts. Refreshing from some of the romance writers who still make use of roses and lovebirds to speak about sex. On the other hand, the book is not all about sex and has a beautiful story of a princess who needs to be found and given the reigns of her country.
Life is unpredictable. We plan many things but not everything happens as planned. Infact, most of the times life has surprises in store for us. The key is to play along and play it well.
This is what you will find the protagonist -Amy doing in this book. Accepting the twists and turns life throws at her and running along with the stride. This the first book of PG Van that I have had a chance to read, and hence I didn’t have any set expectations. Good!
The story is about Amy, a young intern with a law firm (oh that just doesn’t matter). Turns out her new roommate has been replaced by an irresistible, sexy, tall and handsome hunk - Sid (now that’s what is important, right). There begins a love and hate – push and pull kind of chemistry between the two. Needless to mention, lust and love (in that order) blooms in the room. Interestingly, Sid is a spy and Amy is his suspect. However, from suspecting Amy to protecting her, Sid has a difficult journey to make, fighting the rebel group and his inner emotions.
The book transforms itself from a mills and boons to a fairy tale romance to a spy thriller and the twists will just amaze you. The author’s thought process and the story building is really noteworthy. The narration weaves the different genres effortlessly.
The climax though unpredictable, is neither as exciting as the build-up nor convincing enough. I hate to say, the end of the story was a little disappointing.
My take-away from this book: Life will give you many surprises and shocks; you will be put in situations you would not know how to react, that’s when you need to act and act right.
My rating: 3 Stars
I received a review copy of the book from The Book Club in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
The Royal Roommate makes for a pacy read speckled with sizzling hot scenes between the protagonists. A page-turner that makes you want to keep reading and question later. The hunky, jaw-dropping, macho, royal, army bred, Sid is a man of dreams and Amy, the lady in question is undeniably desirable. Just when you think it’s a regular mushy, woman meets her dreamboat kinda story, the book changes course and turns into a racy thriller with chases, hide-n-seek, drama, a royal history and of course oodles of chemistry. The change in track does take the edge off the hot mood you were beginning to settle into but the exciting twists in the plot quite make up for it. Just the kind of book you want to sink into, to de-stress and probably crush over the steamy scenes and wish for a roommate as loyal or as royal as that!
The book seems like an attempt at M&B books. The first few chapters did build up a mystery, suspense but then the everything became so predictable and the storyline broadened so much that the ending seemed like forced.
A great plot with all the ingredients to make it a success - suspense, mistery and lots of love. An unputdownable book that I thouroughly enjoyed reading.
By reading the blurb, I expected it to be a wild romance but the plot is unique too. The plot is not very beleivable with some logical gaps but it has enough twists and turns to get us glued to the book. Both Sid and Amy are 'near to perfect ' characters - kind, caring, smart, sexy and lovable. I like how the story unravels slowly in bits and pieces making the reader to think and complete the puzzle. The pace is good and i felt, it's not too fast or slow.
What i liked most are the twists and turns in the story and the romance of the couple.
I didn't like the climax as it is very predictable for me. I felt, there are some gaps in the story or a few things which are not very comvincing. Amy being a teenager don't upload any of her photos in social media, always has high security at home, her driving license doesn't show her clear face and there are no pictures of her in albums at home. Still, she doesn't doubt the intention of her parents. While her uncle protects her this much, he doesn't worry much when she has to stay with a complete stranger. Amy and Sid's relation seems to be more based on attraction to each other than love for each other. They trust each other very quickly than that is expected in real life.
The title and cover seems fine. The narration is casual and friendly with a bit of humour in the middle. Overall, It's a nice story with twists and romance.
My Rating : 3.5/5
Ps: I have received thisbook from The Book club for review and this is my honest opinion on the book.
I’ve been wanting to read one of P.G. Van’s books for a long time. When I saw she’d written a sort of royal romance (I write them myself), I knew this was the perfect chance to get a taste of her writing. And I’m glad I gave it a try because I’m hooked.
The story starts ominously, and I knew right away that something was off. That didn’t lessen the suspense, though – quite the contrary. Throughout the book, I kept guessing and wondering; sometimes I was right, sometimes I wasn’t, and that made the story all the more enjoyable. Things moved slowly at first, then picked up speed and became more and more suspenseful. Right until the end, the author kept my attention.
As for Amy and Sid, they’re an interesting couple. Well matched and with a million sparks flying. I enjoyed the sexual tension between them and how their interaction in and out of bed changed slowly over the course of their relationship. Sid is irresistible, I want him for myself. And Amy has a lot of spunk and a fierce determination that match his own. I can’t say more without spoilers, but I really think they’re made for each other and for the role they’re supposed to play. I just wish there’d been more conflict between the two protagonists, more of a personal fight alongside the external action.
If you enjoy romantic suspense novels on the steamy side with a fast-paced plot and a taste of royalty, then you should give this book a try.
Life of royalty is not always a bed of roses. We find that they get everything easy. They are born with a silver spoon in mouth and live comfortably till death. But is it the case?
Amy is a happy go lucky girl living peacefully and pursuing her law degree. Her life takes a 180 degree turn on the fateful day when she helps a badly injured stranger. The stranger is a fugitive of another country. In come dashing Sid who pies on Amy due to this action of hers. He moves in as her roommate and falls in love with her the attraction is mutual and they start making out passionately. Then Sid finds out that Amy is royalty.
The book is essentially a romance of Mills and Boon variety. Some element of action and conspiracy is thrown in but central motif is romance. Chemistry between Sid and Amy is great and attraction is electric.
Some issues are apparent. The way he spies on Amy is reprehensible with total disregard to her privacy. Sid along with only one main helper takes on the enemy army. The story in last few chapters is rushed for no particular reason. It could have very well ended at their wedding and they lived happily ever after.
Sid is Army strong and sinfully sexy. He is tasked to investigate a woman suspected of having connections with a rebel group. The style of investigation was not his choice, and he is asked to move in as the roommate of the person of interest, Amy. Amy was thrilled to start her internship in San Francisco and wasn’t expecting a man with rock-solid abs as her roommate. The moment she laid eyes on him, she knew he was bad news.
The attraction was undeniable and they both wondered how long they could hold on to their resolve. Sid didn’t want to sleep with a suspect even if she was wildly beautiful and sexy. Amy wasn’t interested in a fling.
Just when Sid is about close his investigation and declare Amy’s innocence, he finds out something about her that changes everything. She becomes the most important person in his life.
P.G.Van′ s book is simply amazing . The character visualization of Sid is superb .You have made me yearn for Sid the army cum nice husband.
Amy ‘s father is keeping Sid as his agent this fact is nicely penned like a “suspense kind of thing ” which I loved reading it . Rest like any other romance Sid and Amy find each other irresistible to resist the hot temptation which rises between them.
What I liked: The twists and the turns with regards to the plot as Amy being declared a royal princess. The research that went into this drama that made the reader also go on a roller coaster ride. The emotions of Amy before and after she was declared a princess. The knitting of a kingdom Edinridge from a chaotic place to a peaceful and happily ever after.
I would rate it 4 stars and would recommend it anyone who enjoys a good well-researched thriller with sensual romance!

PG Van hands down knows how to write gripping stories and pull the readers in the story and the plot. The plot was so fabulous and engaging that I couldn't keep it down until I completed the story especially with all the suspense and thrilling drama I was on the edge and totally captivated with the story and had to keep reading so I could find out what would happen next. I was intrigued & pulled in right from the start when I saw the title & stared reading and the story captured my attention throughout . The author has come up with a poignant tale and a unique storyline, which does justice to the expectations . I started following the author since I read her first book and she is one of the few authors I have read that I would pre-order the books with closed eyes and I know the story would be absolutely brilliant and it would be different. I have read all her books and none of them have disappointed me , in fact she has left me more impressed with her writing style with every book I read. Cant wait to read what this talented author would pen up next .
A romantic thriller that is unputdownable. Amy is a young woman from a loving family, who is starting her internship in San Francisco. She is driving to San Francisco late at night and on her way she finds herself in a secluded area with no connectivity and an injured person at the roadside. As she is unable to call for help she decides to take the injured patient to the hospital by herself. She leaves him at the hospital and starts her stay in her shared apartment. She has been waiting for her roommate but has pleasantly been enjoying her solitude. A week into her stay and she is surprised by a strikingly handsome visitor who proclaims to be her room mate. Although she is kind of put down by his teasing and entitled behaviour, she is super attracted to him. He seems to be a very intriguing personality who seems to be having an hidden agenda for his stay in San Francisco. What happens to the injured victim that Amy had helped? Who is her attractive roommate who seems to be irritating her with his banter but her body seem to be sending her contrasting signals? How will the relationship of the roommates progress? Why is the book titled, a royal roommate? Read the book to find out and you will be surprised of how the seemingly unrelated events in the initial part of the story get woven into a very thrilling and hot romantic story. The best part is the plot of the story. The moment you start having questions why certain things are happening or start questioning why the characters are the way they are, be sure to get your answers later in the story. The initial part of the story does feel a bit confusing because of this. The chemistry between the protagonists is hot and sizzling. Although they both are attracted to each other and have doubts about the other person’s intentions the relationship does progress to the next level really too fast. The story is fast paced most part of the story but the moment the suspense gets revealed it does feel a little slow to complete and finish the story. This could solely be due to the fact that the curiosity for the suspense is over. Overall a fun, hot romance with a delicious dose of thrill and suspense to feast on. A good book to read on a relaxing afternoon but be sure to keep a couple of hours to spare or else end up feeling that the characters just may do something important when you have put the book down.
The Royal Roommate is the story of Amy and Sid. Amy is an intern in a law firm in San Fransisco and lives away from her doting family. One day, she drives from home late at night and finds an injured man on the roadside. Though skeptical at first because of the lack of mobile connectivity at this secluded area, she takes a call on helping the injured and drives to the nearby hospital all by herself.
She gets back to her apartment. Though shared, her roommate doesn't arrive for days and she pleasantly enjoys her solitude. She is taken aback when a handsome young man -Sid becomes her roommate. She is attracted to him even through his playful taunts and teasing. But something is amiss! He is a complete mystery with his intriguing personality.
Who is he? How will the relationship between the roommates develop? What happened to the injured man?
I've read many of P.G.Van's books and I could see great betterment from the previous books. What I loved the most in this book is the plot itself! It has enough twists and turns that the book has become a total page-turner! It isn't just another romance but is also an eclectic mix of suspense, loyalty and beautiful relationships.
The chemistry between Amy and Sid is sizzling hot and as the story progresses their love also seems to go deep. I found Sid irresistible, especially because he turned out to be a ....no, I'm not revealing the suspense. I'd say, the author was successful in making me swoon during the sensual scenes.
The writing is great; language is simple, crisp and lucid; the narration is good as well.
Do I Recommend?
The Royal Roommate is not a regular girl-meets-boy-and-fall-in-love kinda romance. There is depth in the form of suspense, mystery, and drama entwined. It is gripping and unputdownable thus, making it a great read!
The Royal Roommate is a fast-paced, erotica with fully packed romance, suspense and mystery with a royal touch.
This is third book of P G Van, which I have read and I must say she does have flair of mixing suspense, mystery, erotica and romance, all-in-one and always deliver a hit. This story keeps you glued to your chair and the story from page one till last.
While reading, I felt that The Royal Roommate is inspired from a hit Hollywood movie on same lines but the movie was a rom-com while this has mystery and suspense and action too.
The Royal Roommate is a must read if you like fast-paced romantic thriller and also if you have read past works of the author, then this book you mustn’t miss.
The Royal Roommate is one book that will wake you up and hold you rapt. This is a fast read, quite possibly the fastest book I read in the past few weeks. Writing the review was another matter, procrastinator me 🙁
Sid and Amy are roommates by design and end up falling for each other. Amy has a history, a heritage she is totally unaware of. She is working her way to be a lawyer and finds her new roommate – the secretive, macho, muscled, and so sexy Sid, just totally irresistible.
He is investigating her for a possible terrorist link up but ends up falling for her. She thinks he is an odd replacement for a college kid who had to share her house but falls for his charms. That he knows a lot more than what he is letting on is obvious from the beginning but the chase is what made this book a fun ride. They have the hots for each other and boy! Did I enjoy reading the book? It is a hot little novel and the author certainly steamed up the pages. Yet this book is not just about their rocking chemistry. It also has a lot of action with Sid being an Army guy and the actual evil people out the get them. I am not revealing the role Amy plays or that of her family.
The plot thickens before it resolves and Amy’s past is revealed, that she has a connection with Sid makes it all the more interesting. It is a fast, well-paced book. The chase, the escape, the action make it a page-turner. I just found the ending too simplistic, it was almost an action thriller but romance ruled the roost. The thrilling bits of action is what sets it apart from the routine romances and I see the author delving further in the thriller genre since she created a well-balanced world of bad guys, guns, action and chases.
The Royal Roommate is a fresh take on romance with action, giving its readers a bit of thrill, a good dose of romance and a canful of hot chemistry. Quite explosive, if I may say so. 😉
my first book by this author. The story is fine but the main plot is all rushed up, there is more of talks than the story in the book. A bit more of interest on the story and the plot would have made this a good book. The lead roles of the story, Sid and Amy, happen to be roommates when Sid moves into the flat where Amy lived. their love story is way too fast, the character of Sid is sometimes confusing too, where he loves Amy but at the same time respects her on a different dimension, doubts her but still loves her. I mean the doubt getting converted to love is not clear. The best part of the story is its ending, something which readers may not have anticipated, however the climax of the story too is of too many quick turns and then it is over. I believe the plot could have been worked more with the story and this sure could have been a very great read. However given the context, the book is an OK read, the intense situations are narrated nicely instead of using typical erotic words which is also a good part of the book. So not a great pick but can read out if there is no otherwise reads in hand.
Amy is , as far as she is concerned, a regular American young woman on her way to San Francisco to intern and be evaluated by the senior partners of a local law firm as part of her required steps to follow in order to complete her University courses and finally get her law degree. The law firm will foot part of her living arrangements bill provided she and her Female roommate cope with the remaining balance. On the way to her new place, from her parents residence, she encounters a situation where she must go a wounded man who just had an automobile accident. Due to the severity of his injuries she takes him to the hospital located a certain distance away . Having done her good deed, she finally reaches her destination and, a couple of days later, she meets her roommate who is all Male and named Sid. The author masterfully writes a great love story filled with mystery, love, deceipt action and, twists and turns that make this great book, a page turner. I highly recommend it and rate it 5 Stars +.
I really liked the way the writer considered even tiny details, that really made the story more visualised. The way he portrayed Amy and Sid's love was beautiful. Also I was really glad that the story didn't have that typical love story plot ( they meet, love happens, typical fight and they meet again), still the plot had so many elements. I also loved how the writer portrayed various elements in this story, like mental trauma, hope, innocence, love, sex, compassion, intellect, duty, responsibility, and many more. I really enjoyed reading it. ✨
This romance suspense right from the beginning was on the go. You don't know how it will end. Here the heroine goes another city for a few months for school. She has a roommate who doesn't show for awhile. But when he does sparks fly. He is there undercover for his country. He has to find out if she is out to destroy his country. But is she who he believes she is? If not just who is she? And what does she know?
Wow....I wasn’t too sure about this one in the beginning however once it got to a certain point. I couldn’t stop reading. The romance in this gets heated real quick and doesn’t stop. Sid is a dream boat and I loved watching our heroin Amy grow into the person she’s supposed to be.
The Royal Roommate is a romantic spy thriller with a royal touch. A royal army man who is on his life mission to protect the future queen Amyra from rebel group. The suspense and twist were maintained well. Sometimes, I felt the story is being rushed.
My fav lines from the novel were: 'Love makes its way to your heart no matter what you are doing and where you are.'
One of the worst things I’ve ever read and I regularly rea the writing of small children. If you like the words ‘she was shocked at the size of his virility’ or a FMC who blacks out on the street because she thinks that she’s super tired (spoiler alert: he drugs her! Even better!) then this is the book for you.
A perfect love sharing book with nice storyline. Loved the way the main characters were framed and explicit. The detailing on each locations/ country were amazing to really visualise.
