In the Heat of the Spotlight, is the 2nd book in Kate Hewitt’s The Bryant’s Trilogy
Luke Bryant is a successful, gorgeous and ambitions alpha-hero with a sensitive side that he hides from the world. Aurelie (I love her name) Schmidt is a forgotten and has-been pop singer, who hides her pain behind a mask of being exactly what the media says about her. A total loser!
Equally damaged, they both need to revive something in their lives. Luke with the relaunch of his family’s department stores and Aurelie trying to make a comeback and revive her career.
It’s not a great first meeting. Aurelie finds Luke overbearing and domineering and even if she does find him to be gorgeous and sexy, she will never allow herself to become involved with him.
Luke’s initial meeting with Aurelie is exactly what he’s believed from the tabloids about her.

'Right.' He hauled her up by the armpits and felt her sag helplessly against him. She'd looked thin slumped on the floor, and she felt even more fragile in his arms. Fragile and completely out of it. 'What did you take?' he demanded. She lolled her head back to blink up at him, her lips curving into a mocking smile.
'Whatever it was, it was a doozy.'
Luke scooped her up in his arms and stalked over to the bathroom. He ran a basin full of cold water and in one quick and decisive movement plunged the pop star's face into the icy bowlful.
She came up like a scalded cat, spluttering and swearing.
'What the hell—?'
'Sobered up a bit now, have you?'
She sluiced water from her face and turned to glare at him with narrowed eyes. 'Oh, yes, I'm sober. Who are you?'

Aurelie is dealing with demons from her past which make her feel unsure about her career revival and also fighting the growing and deep feelings for Luke. Both have been let down and used by those they loved which makes it hard with trust issues and believing that they deserve to be loved and cared for.
Gradually they reveal themselves to each other but there is so much still that each has to deal with before they are truly able to take the final step in trusting and believing in each other. What I liked was how their issues are so gradually revealed – I was totally surprised by the reason for Aurelie’s painful past….never ever got it right until it’s finally out.

I liked the way that Luke showed such a kind, patient and understanding side when he’s faced with Aurelie’s problem with being intimate with him. Able to be there for help, to catch her if she falls and never giving up and never stop loving her.

It was really wonderful watching them find love and happiness.

And the only thing I hated? THE COVER….really boring and dated!!!!

A heroine with a fake pop princess persona and a hero with a compulsion to honesty. A match made in heaven. Not. But after a bad start, they get to know each other better. and against all the odds, Luke and Aurelie' s relationship develops beautifully not only on desire - and there was plenty - but also on trust. Under the armour of the washed up pop star with the go-to-hell attitude, Luke discovers the real Aurelie. But Luke has his own dark secret. They unravel each other's secrets bit by bit. KH knows how to build the tension, to keep a secret ..well..a secret, till the reader is consumed with curiosity, very alert to any bit of information thrown here or there.
This is one of those intensely dramatic read that KH specialises in. But in spite of the undercurrent of sadness, this book has a sweet side due particularly to Luke. Luke is a wonderful hero. So loving in trying to earn Aurelie's trust, so patient in helping her deal with her fear.

This book touched my heart. I was rooting for Luke and Aurelie to get their HEA from the very first chapter. Loved it.

It was a really nice book. Filled with many emotions. I wish Aurelie would have acknowledged that she was abused though instead of calling what she had with Pete a relationship. I'm glad Luke helped her with the emotional problems she was facing. I also really like Luke's brother Chase so I'm definitely going to read his book soon.

The first and last time I attempt to read a Mills & Boon novel. I could only force myself to read a chapter, this style of storytelling is clearly not for me.

As I only read a chapter I can't comment on the story itself, I am sure fans of Mills & Boon may enjoy this story, but I need more substance and less fluff in romance novels.

The story of trust and second chances. It is about a washed-out pop star who seeks change and her new boss who has fallen for her stormy blue eyes is just the person to give her the chance to change...

Loved the spunk of the heroine - especially because there was so much going on under the spunk.
