I was told off as a child for making up stories—little did I know that one day I’d earn my living by writing them!

To the horror of my parents, I left school at sixteen and held a bewildering variety of jobs: I was a London DJ (in the now-trendy Primrose Hill), a decorator and a singer. After that I became a cook, a photographer and, eventually, a nurse. I waitressed in the south of France, drove an ambulance in Australia, saw lots of beautiful sights but could never settle down. Everywhere I went I felt like a square peg—until one day I started writing again and then everything just fell into place. I felt like Cinderella must have when the glass slipper fit!

Today, I have the best job in the world, writing passionate romances for Harlequin. I like writing stories which are sexy and fast-paced, yet packed full of emotion—stories that readers will identify with, laugh and cry along with.

My interests are many and varied—chocolate and music, fresh flowers and bubble baths, films, cooking and trying to keep my home from looking burglarized! Simple pleasures—you can’t beat them!

I live in Winchester, one of the most stunning cities in the world, but don’t take my word for it—come see for yourself! I regularly visit London and Paris. Oh, and I love hearing from my readers all over the world…so I think it’s over to you!

I came for a trainwreck. I *wanted* to drink kool-aid. And what did I get?

Just a lame story.

The H/h had been separated too long - 7 years.

The case against the heroine was flimsy - she was staying in a flat with a guy (cousin?) - but no catching them in bed together, nothing.

The BJ scene was gross and not really necessary.

The hero had no personality and neither did the heroine. They were just personified emotions that fit together like a building toy. The hero's throbbing penis of anger lines up with the heroine's- limp wet hole of despair -

And that kids is how HEAs are built!

Not.

I'll have to look elsewhere for my trainwreck.

Hahahahahahahahaha....

That's hysterical homicidal laughter by the way.

So here I am here trolling through memory lane because there are lots and lots of books I'd read before I started writing reviews on goodreads and this novel is a celebration of Double Standards and sleazy heroes. The "H" Alexei is sleazy, promiscuous, inflexible in his archaic views of life and one of the worst husbands ever. I must admit that I am not a big fan of Sharon Kendrick. She's written some of the most jerkish H's ever. Her heroes tend to revel in surpassing other authors' manwhores. There was her H who actually called his heroine a "little lizard" and then there was the Prince who screwed a virgin chambermaid for weeks before dumping her and returning to his homeland. And then there's the book I'm reading right now about a sheikh who dumped the heroine because some girly photos of her surfaced. But, let me not digress. Alexei made me laugh and want to vomit simultaneously plus he was such a conceited ass. He was one of those H's who have vain self-complimentary thoughts about how wonderful his penis is, but I guess the poor guy hasn't yet come across a H from a Jordan Silver novella because those guys have dicks that will make him jealous.

I won't go into the nauseating opening scene where his receptionist is giving him a blow job while he talks to the heroine on the phone, except to add that it was the worst beginning for a romance novel. The heroine Victoria was sweet but dumb. She's yet another idiot who cannot stand up for herself and takes unfair blame for being an adulteress when it's the H who is the real cheater in the relationship. The other thing that made me want to kill Alexei is the way he treats her like a prostitute: he won't give her a fair financial settlement unless she starts having sex with him again. Wasn't this guy's dick exhausted ? It gets so much regular practice. But I guess what motivated him more than just mere sex was his cruel desire to assert his male power over Victoria. He used sex and held money over her head as some kind of weapon. Victoria was too dumb for words. She didn't even ask the jerk for an STD test before she started screwing him again. And she was so pathetically desperate for him too. That just fed his F up ego even more.

I read this again today just to see if I had judged it too harshly before. It still sucks. That opening chapter was just too disgusting for words. And he called that OW back in to the office after the call so his final excuse, that he 'didn't want anyone else after the call' was a total lie. She was stripping her clothes off. And I was so pissed that the heroine agreed to stay for a week with him. She needs her nether parts bleached and sanitized and her brain checked. He was a disusting manwhore. I don't care how much you needed money. I really hated him. He was just a pig.And OMG, when the slutty receptionist told her about how she was sucking his, ahem, 'thumb' while the phone call was taking place my heart broke for her. I wanted to throw up with her. I really wish she had just left him and found somebody else. He was a pig and unredeemable to me. And 'F' the epilogue. That was just too much after that vile of a story. If I were her, I would never unsee that slut below his desk doing what she did while he was talking to her and demanding to see her again. And talk about the double standards. In this case I wish she had gone truly slutty and slept with everyone in her vicinity. But no. She didn't. Yuk. My stomach and my heart hurts from reading this. What a moron I am. I am truly disgusted at myself for re-reading this. I am putting myself in time out and restriction for two or three days I think. I was a bad, bad girl. I wish there was mind bleach. I feel dirty. Oh and if you didn't guess it, I don't recommend this book to anyone.

This was the first book I read by Sharon Kendrick and it's one of the few books I have read by her, I think they are 5 or 6
Thanks GOD I found other new romance authors, I stopped to read her books!
The hero was a JERK (with capital letters) The way he treated the heroine was horrible! Even in the first scene of the book, when his wife called him after all those years of separation to ask him the divorce, his secretary or PA was doing him a b*** job (while he was talking on the phone with his wife). No no no!
I don't know how I finished this, I think it was because I wanted to read other authors apart from Sara Craven and Leigh Michaels at that time.
Another thing that didn't like me was the appearance and the economical situation of the heroine. The author described her wearing cheap clothes and jewelry :( that made me feel sad. It wasn't fair that she suffered bad times in the seven years, while the "hero" was f****** around with other women and she was celibate! He didn't deserved her!
I don't want to find any other books like this, that is why I created my shelves: books-to-avoid and authors-to-avoid :D

This read was as pleasant as the Ebola virus. Simple as that.

I was looking for a light read. The hero was Greek so I thought I should give it a try. Ugh. I've never been so wrong.

The plot was nonexistent, because, seriously, a guy buying his wife for a week just for sex is just not an actual storyline. Or, more accurately, it could be if something was different. For "something" read "characters".

So, no. I did not like Alexei Christou. He was a douchebag. True, a Greek filthy-rich douchebag but a douchebag nonetheless. Being Greek myself, I was literally facepalming every time the guy actually said something in Greek. Why, you ask. Let's just say that Google translate must have been the author's main tool. You see, every time the writer should have used an adverb, she'd use an adjective. So, Google translate it is.

To get back on track, Alexei was sooo full of himself and sooo arrogant. I'm pretty sure he thought that under the phrase "Greek God" on the dictionary, was his photo. Not.

Just so we're clear, Greek guys are not like that. Well, at least most of them are not.

Ah, Victoria... Just another TSTL heroine with a lame fashion-sense. Strangely, that's the only thing I can remember about her because she would whine about how cheap-looking were her clothes every. Flipping. Time.

So, Victoria, about the looks of your clothes:

The fallout was glaringly obvious. Oh, speaking of fallouts, Alexei thought that he walked in on Victoria cheating on him with another guy -which wasn't true. So, what does our heroine do when she meets Alexei 7 years later (note that Alexei's reaction to her "cheating on him" was to do not answer her calls, return her letters and refuse to see her) she doesn't break the news to him; she just keeps pretending that he was right. I mean, what is wrong with you?!? Maybe she did tell him afterwards but it must have been on the parts that I skipped.

Overall, well, I think you get the idea. I wouldn't recommend it. Well, unless you want to have a good laugh. Especially if you are Greek.

No a likable hero. Heroine a doormat. Some of these HPs the girls make such odd decisions. Odd distasteful scene of o**l sex on first page with another woman. To be fair, I picked this off a list of worst HPs ever just to check out what others felt was bad. Should have just trusted them. :-)

I would not have taken him back for anything. Ludicrous double standard, taken ridiculously far. Can I say ludicrous and ridiculous one more time? In 7 years a modern English woman doesn't have any romance? Even if it's not as good as the first, nothing? While he is doing everything that moves? There was nothing lovable about this "hero" even during their marriage. The character drawn here is not a reformed rake...he doesn't love her because he doesn't know how to value a woman, and won't be faithful. Also, married to a billionaire with no prenup, consulted a lawyer and couldn't figure out she could get a talon of $ without being his mistress? He had no custody to blackmail her with, why would she agree to have sex for a pittance. Just ridiculous.

This is a reunion romance. Victoria and Alexei had a stormy marriage. Hero was rich, heroine was poor and very young. Hero was also a workaholic and that made his young bride feel lonely and insecure. Their marriage ended when Alexei found Victoria in the arms of another man.

Now 7 years later heroine asks for a divorce cause she is in need of money. Hero accepts but only if she becomes his mistress.

I have no idea why this book has so many negative reviews. Yes the hero is not celibate but do you expect a macho hero whose wife moved in together with another man and found her in a compromising position with OM to remain celibate after 7 years of no contact with cheating wife?

I thought Alexei and Victoria had intense chemistry and the author showed us the reasons their marriage broke down. It was heartbreaking. I was so glad they got their HEA, they were perfect for each other!

H and h met, fell in love and got married too quickly. He was busy trying to prove himself in his cut-throat family shipping business. She was 19, English and lost in his Greek world, not knowing what to do with herself and her increasingly-absent husband.

She goes back to London for a visit and stays with a male friend for a few days, strictly platonic, but was caught in a compromising position when H comes looking for her. [She was naked under a robe (after a shower), non-OM lounging around with an unbuttoned shirt]

Being the hot-headed, stereotypical Greek Hero, he jumps to the wrong conclusion and storms out refusing to listen to her explanations. For 7 years. Yes, 7 long years where he didn’t secretly stalk her with an inept detective to keep the resentment brewing. Dude, how am I supposed to believe in your HEA?

She tries to call numerous times to explain before her pride asserted itself and she stops. He, using standard HP alpha male logic, decides this silence is a clear admission of guilt and since she hasn’t asked for money, assumes she has leeched on to some other loser.

She focuses on work. She partners with her best friend, a single mum and both decide to go into financial ruin together a cake decorating/catering business. With their debts increasing and her best friend in danger of being kicked out of her apartment, she realises it is time to check in with her husband to officially end things with a quickie. A quickie settlement that is, but we all know what she was thinking.

Now the H, on his part, has buried his pain and anger at her alleged betrayal. Business is great especially since wife hasn’t showed up asking for her rightful half. Holding on to a married status without a wife in tow means he gets to enjoy the benefits of a bachelor while keeping off the vultures who know the true dollar value of being wife to a billionaire.

So we get a glimpse into his self-indulgent lifestyle from the first page of the book. He is settling back comfortably in his penthouse office, about to receive a blow-job from a ditzy receptionist.

Now, we weren’t born yesterday. We can hazard this type of thing probably happens in real life (though balding, flabby, wrinkly men with floppy man-boobs comes more to mind) so we can probably hazard this type of thing happens to our virile HP heroes too who’ve been estranged from their partners.

Thing is though, do I really want to read about it in the first page of a romance novel?

Well, I will say I will read just about anything if it’s well-written. I would have liked to applaud Kendrick for trying a risqué intro especially where the h calls at this most inopportune time. But it was neither here nor there. It seemed like he lost his erection at the sound of her voice and then got even more turned on or maybe he was just angry turned-on. The whole scene was just messy and awkwardly written.

Plus, dude, where’s the wining, dining, midnight sailing on the yacht to your beautiful Greek island before you settle down to the business of getting off? Don’t be a cheapo.

But I’ve digressed, sorry.

He calls the tart back to his office after the phone conversation and it was vague whether the sexual liaison continued. They were separated for a long time so I wasn’t going to hold him to celibacy but I would have liked the solid reassurance that he couldn’t think of anything else (or do anyone else) once he heard his wife on the line.

So I hoped at the very least, that it going to venture into awesome WTF territory but nope, it was standard illogical HP fare: Be My Mistress for a Week and I’ll Give You Your Settlement. It veered into a boring read with zero angst so I tossed it months ago.

But I did a skim recently for the review and most surprisingly, ended up with a read that worked 2nd time around. I’m not sure why. Maybe because I had my fill of poor-me heroes with bad childhoods. This one was unapologetically egoistical and just owned his arrogant behaviour like an old-school Hero. I almost went, “Pargeter, is that you?” as I read and entertained notions that Kendrick was Pargeter’s love child.

Kendrick kept the book centred solely on the H and h and it had an odd vintage romance vibe with the h having the right mix of innocence, fighting spirit and a foolish, helpless attraction to her husband. Once I knew to ignore the clumsy first chapter, it settled into an easy, steamy read.

The floozie who offered her penis-vacuuming services

I like the reassurance of epilogues better than grovels and Kendrick did a good one for this couple. I got the feeling both worked through their issues. Not my favourite writing style as both H and h spouted some ludicrous lines, but Kendrick sold me on the idea that good sex and honest conversations are not bad foundations for a HEA.

Silly sidenote musings:
Why can’t HPs have a floozie heroine where a billionaire comes to rescue them from a string of bad relationship decisions? Kendrick did not even dignify her with a name. Perhaps for the same reason there never seems to be a black Hero or an African prince. Maybe one day… The Ghetto Billionaire and His Pregnant Receptionist: It’s not mine and I don’t care.

Neither the hero nor the heroine were particularly likeable.

I thought I was okay with cheating Hs, but apparently not, because that is one of the reasons I gave this book a low rating. Also,

Heroine also came off as too whiny for my liking.

Admitted, sexual chemistry was off the rocks.

But

I normally love badly behaving heroes, but this book left my mouth with a bad, ugly taste.

Sharon Kendrick still remains a favourite author, but I will be more careful in picking out another book by her.

Just awful ..no words to describe this train wreck of plot.

Utter waste of time.

The story went down hill from the gross opening and it all felt very dysfunctional and just can't believe how terrible it was. Avoid! Nothing felt right. The story was not developed and what caused the 7 year separation just didn't justify it. The HEA wasn't believable even the grovelling at the end was like a light bulb moment for the H. Did not seem believable.

I must be one of the few who actually enjoyed this book. It started out great! Seriously who would have thought a scene like that would grab your attention? It did though! He claims to be honest at one point, but the whole phone call leads you to question his honesty. Did the assistant just put her through or did he have a heads up? I’m not sure, but I know some systems the caller on hold can hear what is being said because it is like they were piggyed-back in with the heads up from the receptionist. Does that make sense?

He is so concerned w/ whether or not she was w/ OM, but doesn’t consider his own actions. Double standards abound again! Annoying? Yes, but still see it every day. I think some of his OW were retaliation for the hurt he believed she had inflicted upon him. Moot and pointless as she didn’t do what he accused her of, but then he felt that she probably had the same appetites as him so……the OW were just him treated them the way they let him treat them. Which is what Victoria did as well, she let him do that to her and she finally put her foot down at the end and he realized he just may lose her for good!

I did like when he wanted his little deal and she said she would never be his wife again. He, of course, is like never asked and then he wants to know why not! That was nice. He seemed a little upset by her not wanting that type of r/s w/ him again. They did discuss some of the problems they had earlier on in their marriage and he eventually saw her point of view. He seemed like the type of guy that needed to mull over things before seeing the rightness of her emotions.

She is confronted by one of his OW and she gets her heartbroken, but why she knew there were OW. I’m guessing it because KNOWING and KNOWING for sure are two different animals and besides who wants to know where he “was” when she was on the phone talking to him. It just added more drama and angst to the story though.

Alexi realizes it’s more about what Victoria makes him feel than just the coming together of bodies, she makes him a better person and he likes that. I, personally, like that Alexi had to chase Victoria down though! He shouldn’t have been messing w/ the help, but I’m guessing this help was more than eager to open up her mouth and she probably got what she deserved! He even asked please, something it would seem Alexi doesn’t do. Did he have other encounters w/ employees? Probably, I’m not sure he respects them much either as they don’t even warrant a name in the story.

Did he lie though about losing all desire for any OW since she had rang him at the beginning of the story? Sounds like he may have because he issued a command and the OW came back in to his office undressing. What do you think? I’m sure he would twist that some way though huh? Like it wasn’t her I was thinking of, it was you, so therefore it doesn’t count! Yep, that’s a favorite of the Hs in some of these stories!!

So even though I shouldn’t like this story, I can’t help myself. Sometimes you just need a asshat H to add to your keeper shelf! Besides I think Alexi can be reformed. He has the basis of seeing things from Victoria’s POV….that’s a start. LOL!!

I still don’t know why I wasted my time with this s**t.
This is the one where the pa gives the married hero a bj, just when he’s talking to his wife on the phone.
The hero threw her out seven years before because he thought she was cheating and of course she wasn’t.
He’s been a pig since then, the worst manwhore in all Christianity. When his estranged wife asks him for divorce he blackmails her into being his mistress for one week.
At the end of the week he offers her to be his mistress, not his wife. Even if he knows she was innocent and celibate, and he was a beast.
No grovel.
No apology.
No redemption.
No feelings of guilt for cheating on her all these years and throwing her away.
Nothing.
Excuse me, where’s the romance?
Usual filthy double standard.
I understand that he misjudged her, but when he realizes he was wrong and she was right, did he feel like the worst pos in all the world?
Did he regret his behavior to her?
His betrayal of their vows? Of their love?
No.
And she, did she make him grovel? After his pa told her she was giving her husband a bj while she was calling him?
I would have thrown up and never wanted to see him again.
Never in my life.
And never even at his funeral.
So, if you love yourself and care of your time, don’t read this book. It’s only rage and disgust.
Ps: why don’t writers understand that it’s disgusting and shabby to describe the hero, married to the heroine, having sex with ow?

Holy moly, the start was so unexpected, that I wondered for a moment whether I had found my way into the literotica website.
The H was a complete tool but jeepers I could not put this book down. I guess it is the rubber necker in me that kept reading, after than insane start. I don't know how to rate it because the H was such an arse and the h was a bit pathetic, but I simply could not put this story down.
I could have done with a lot more grovelling on his part at the end, especially over what he had been doing while on the phone.

Bleh. Hate the male lead! Really? Why in hell the heroine decide to keep loving him? I mean she should told him to go and die and burn! So fucking moron. If the story like this, there's no need to happy ending. Like really? Really? With the a kind of guy like that? Accusations without hearing, and sleep with another woman while still in marriage??? God forbid, that kind of man shall be deleted from the world, human beings, and shall not permit to exist.

1. Opening scene is for shock value, but not relevant to the story.
2. The hero treats the heroine as a whore for 85% of the book.
3. There is no balance of power, no matter how desperate, she needed to walk away.
4. One cheap apology isn’t remotely enough of a reason to forgive and move forward.
5. He’s disgraceful.

I think this has to be my favorite Sharon Kendrick book. I really liked it, and i think the bad reviews are unfair. Just because he slept with other women doesn't make him bad. He thought she cheated on him, so he was justified and in addition they were seperated. He was a bit harsh i agree, but somehow throughout it all i had the feeling that he loved her.

This is HP, it is not PC and it shouldn't be, because it's a guilty pleasure and if it starts becoming too PC like everything else then it would be just as boring.

alex treated victoria abominably! he was so harsh and vindictive! u wud think he caught her in bed wid another man!! but no he just caught her living wid another man and was livid! he cultivated this bitterness over 7 years. so ofc when he had her again in his grasp, he wud punish and belittle her. why the heroine gave him dat opportunity is beyond me! it was not a matter of life and death dat she so needed the money for. he was so wrong abt her and he never did grovel. she just fell back into his arms!

Honestly?? If I were this writer I would take this book out of circulation. I wonder how thousands of other women who, like me, read this pile of garbage and decided they would never read another book by this author. It would be a smart choice. At least it would be a better choice than to have written this bunch of garbage. This is one of the most ridiculous and offensive books I've ever had the grief of putting my eyes to. If I could choose something in my life to forget, this book would be among the first choices.

I am not a fan of second chance romance books but when there’s a cruel hero and intense angst?? I’m all innn

description

This book was so messy (the hero was the messy one to be honest) and sexy and intense i really liked it. I dont blame him for casting her aside because she was kinda dumb to just up and leave and go live alone with a man she was not related to, when she was still married and her husband had travelled for work, even though she felt lonely and ignored. Like there was no other way for him to interpret it. She could have been smarter on that front. I don’t know what it was about it it’s hard to describe but ugh I think the author did a really good job of communicating their past and present feelings and how they perceived the other after seven years had passed.

She also effortlessly showed the intense passion and love they felt for each other even after all those years. Some of the sexy scenes had me fanning myself a little. They weren’t very wild or anything but there was just something!
Whew!

I’m happy that I’ve read this book despite all the negative reviews. This HP has got a lot of 1 star ratings from other reviewers.

There were some funny remarks in the book, like when the h made a remark on ‘beware of Greeks bearing gifts’. Her downside is that she too suffers from a treacherous body, unfortunately.

Most negative reviews are because he was in the middle of getting a BJ from his mistress when his wife, the h, called him after 7 years.

I don’t hold that against him, because she did call unexpectedly after him having heard or seen nothing of her for 7 years. And he didn’t let his mistress finish the BJ while he was on the telephone talking to his wife, he told his mistress to stop.

He thought his wife had cheated on him, so he was full of rage about her betrayal. And he had been faithful to her when they were still together.

She isn’t annoying or stupid which is rare in a HP h. And his wicked sexual banter is like foreplay. So 5 stars.
