"I enjoy writing about the things I am acquainted with and have experienced first-hand. That knowledge spans nearly 40 years and those friends and colorful characters I have discovered in both in my personal, creative and professional life have loosely crossed into the fictional path of my writings. They grow and evolve into the characters I hope my readers will also come to love or despise in much the same way as I do."

This book had me giggling from the first page and laughing hysterically through out until the last page when I was like..."I WANT MORE!" I simply couldn't put it down which annoyed my husband no end as he listened to my giggles, gasps and guffaw's at the breakfast table, the bedroom, in my bath, at the dinner table and finally at 5am in the morning in bed!
This is a highly entertaining and engaging read and every single character had me fully engaged. As we tumble in and out of bed with Norman Baker, our protagonist is a humble hairdresser from the small seaside and picturesque town of Bournemouth, Dorset in the South of England (also known as Thomas Hardy country), we readers are thrown into the confessional box that is in reality, Norman’s upscale salon to the well-to-do residents and visitor he regularly services (some in more ways than one).
Privy to the secrets his clientele harbor, Norman has heard far more about his female client’s health problems, dirty deeds and even a murder, that he ponders his daily existence, much like Bridget does in Bridget Jones's Diary This certainly isn’t the life he wanted or strived for.
With a name he hates a, a profession where everyone thinks he must be gay and either sex is trying to get into his business or into his trousers, he finds escapism in his jaunts across the beautiful countryside’s of England in his gorgeous Jaguar classic sports car and in the arms of the beautiful but temporary female conquests that cross his path every so often.
Eventually though, the inevitable happens and Norman falls in love. But the timing is such that Norman has hit a major crossroads that leads to making the ultimate choice and sacrifice that will affect his life, his friends, and his business. But by this time, we readers cheer him on because at the end of the day it will all work out as we know that Norman is just one lucky bastard!
A fantastic and enjoyable read, this book does contain adult themes but not to a degree that I found offensive in any shape or form as the dialogue and themes are pretty much normal for the kind of characters portrayed In the book. There is an incredible level of sarcasm and one liner’s that even I have secretly squirreled away for my own personal use!
So if you enjoyed movies/books like Bridget Jones’ Diary, and if you enjoy beautiful descriptions of the English countryside and totally get the British wit and sense of humor this book is a must-read and gets my 5 star rating!
A hilarious, heartwarming read. Whoever thought that a hairdresser (Norman) and his eccentric and insane clientele could be so funny. This story perfectly merges humor, erotica, and drama into a story.
So…this was such a peaceful, hilarious empowering read for me. Norman Baker is our narrator, a savvy businessman and hairdresser/ salon owner who’s set up shop in the seaside town of Bournemouth, England. This book introduces us to some of Norman’s eclectic clientele as well as his adventures (and occasional hair-raising MISS-adventures) with the members of the opposite sex. Norman possess a quick wit and sense of sarcasm that’s sharper than the scissors with which he wields in his chosen profession, He cuts through all of the bullshit and it’s refreshing to see. He doesn’t mince words but handles them with the same amount of finesse as he does his clients hair. Reading this book I felt like I had stepped into Norman’s salon, sat down in one of his chairs and listened to him spare the hottest latest gossip spreading through town (and I’m not going to lie, I’m a sucker for some hot gossip). The tone is both friendly and soothing and I’m not sure if it’s because of the author Nicholas Price's’ writing style, Norman himself as a character or because of the female characters we encounter as the book progresses, either way I was completely hooked from the get go. Each of the women we meet in this book has a different form of strength of some sort, whether it is in their sexuality, vivaciousness or attitude. Norman passes no judgement but instead offers a refreshing view of how complex being a woman is when dealing with life and our own sexuality and other people’s perception of it (there were so many times where I was like: “YES! FINALLY! SOMEBODY FUCKING GETS IT”). Each chapter is prefaced by a wise, funny and sometimes deeply thoughtful quote (I found all of them to be relatable). And each chapter reads like a short story (it’s wonderfully compact and is an excellent book to read before bed). The women in this book hold a special place in my heart for different reasons but taking top honors is Gloria Simpson; an elderly former model who lives in the past and looks deeply into the present without giving a flying fuck as to who she offends as she lives her life. She’s Norman’s best friend (and I honestly wish she were mine too) and matches him in both open-mindedness and sarcasm (she’s seen it all so nothing really surprises her anymore). I loved watching these two together so much, as they tease and joke with each other in only a way two best friends can, and not only that but there are some moments when Gloria really needs Norman and of course he’s always there for her, and she for him. Norman is a gentleman with a filthy mind and refreshing outlook on life. I found him surprisingly relatable but now I’m at loose (split) ends because the book ends on the cusp of another great adventure that awaits Norman and I want to follow him sooooooo badly to see where it takes him but I have to wait for the next book in the series to come out, until then I can happily reread this one whenever I want to. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of books packed with hilarious, erotic dirty humor, puns, and sarcasm (not recommended to readers who get easily offended, and who have no idea what sarcasm is).
I love this author's work and look forward to the next installment of Adventures in Trichology II. Well-written, funny as hell and a plot that any hot blooded male would envy, just to be this guy! Norman Baker , you're my hero!
Put a very big smile on my face in these awful times, wonderful escapism, I really enjoyed Price's crime novels but this is a one off adventure great fun!!
