Suspicious Behavior

Rate this book
Book two in the Bad Behavior series

Detective Darren Corliss is hanging by a thread. In between recovering from a near-fatal wound and returning to work at a hostile precinct, he’s struggling to help care for his ailing brother. His partner and boyfriend, Detective Andreas Ruffner, wants to help, but doesn’t know how. And with his own family crises brewing, Andreas is spread almost as thin as Darren.

For cops, though, life takes a backseat to the job. When a stack of unsolved homicides drops into their laps, Andreas and Darren think they’re unrelated cold cases. But when a connection surfaces, they find themselves on the tail of a prolific serial killer who’s about to strike again.

Except they’ve got nothing. No leads. No suspects. Just a pile of circumstantial evidence and a whole lot of hunches. Time is running out to stop the next murder—and to pull themselves back from their breaking points.

No rest for the wicked...
A book of gifs I have taken a liking to. © wolfqang. 2017 #willekeurig Willekeurig #amreading #books #wattpad

... and our cops Darren Corliss and Andreas Ruffner have their hands more than full this time with juggling between doing their job by solving an extremely intricate case and their personal life which proves to be a tough challenge in its own way.

Boy, could I relate to the exhaustion both men felt. After two weeks of hard work in order to start my vacation, I'm was feeling bone-tired and did not even manage to get much reading done before I went all cross eyed and sleep took over.

But at least...

I did not have to catch a serial killer while time is breathing down my neck to get him behind bars before he follows his personal pattern to kill his next victim...

I did not have a feeling to fight against windmills because the case takes some twists and turns whenever it seems to be rock-solid.
tumblr_mhxvec4TBX1qa71fyo1_500.gif (500×250)

I did not have to fight my own coworkers who hate my guts due to what happened during the last case and who refuse to provide much needed backup and there is nothing you can do about it.

And finally... I did not have to deal with all the curveballs life throws their way on a personal level which especially pushes Darren -after his injury in the last book still not at the top of his game- nearly to his limits, not to say his breaking point, while a threat that has nothing to do with work is hanging over his head like a black cloud. Andreas is condemned to stand back, feeling helpless, while at the same time confronted with family problems of his own.

So, compared to everything both men had to go through, my last two weeks were a walk in the park.

At least their feelings for each other are solid and that is conveyed in every little gesture, word and look they shared. Both men have each other's back, on and off the job, and that is the one constant in this book.

"Remember back in the beginning when the chief put us together? I fought him tooth and nail. Said I didn't need a partner, and I sure as shit didn't want one. And now... I can't even imagine working without you anymore. I can't imagine living without you."

Granted, I would have wished for them to have a little bit more downtime, a little more well-deserved time together to give in to their feelings, but their shared moments are absolutely precious and I love both guys more with each book.
I squeezed his hand. "Whatever happens, I'm not going anywhere."
He swallowed. "But what if I forget who you are?"
"Darren..." I brought his hand up to my lips. "Even if you do, I won't forget who you are."

Those who look for a steamy romance with both men getting down and dirty at any given opportunity will be disappointed, but those who love a great mystery with a romance on the side will hopefully enjoy this series as much as I do.

The mystery part is downright convincing and that is what I also love about this series. The second case contains once again not your average whodunnit. It is all about hunches and proof and solid police work, which leads to a thrilling climax that had me pacing nervously through my living room because I could not sit still, with my eyes glued to my Kindle. Umm, yeah, only interrupted by me almost tripping over my cat, but... that just as a side note. Serial killer always give me the creeps and this one was a pretty unusual creepy specimen. A reminder that appearances are often deceiving and it sure made me wonder what must be going on in some people's mind.

Now I'm sitting here so not patiently waiting for the next book, because I have a feeling that one scene in this book could lead to events that take place in the next one, which makes me a bit anxious, to say the least...

Story 4.25 Stars!

I'm a sucker for crime drama stories involving serial killers. This one was especially good because the serial killer was also sociopathic. 😱 Even though it's easy to figure out who the killer is, it does make it less exciting and at times suspenseful. I liked how everything played out.

Considering that Darren and Andreas are not only work partners but also in a relationship, I would have liked to feel more of the intimacy between them. I'm not talking about sex. These guys hardly get enough sleep between cases and family drama, so it's understandable that sex happens little to not at all. What I'm talking about are intimate words, affectionate touches, giving certain looks...etc. There is a little of that, but I wanted more.

Solid mystery, solid romance.

It’s been several weeks since Risky Behavior ended, and Darren and Andreas are stronger than ever before. That’s not to say they have it easy. They’re ostracized from their own police department having exposed corruption, and when they get tasked to work cold cases, they fortuitously discover a connection between several murders pointing towards a serial killer. As Darren and Andreas race against time before another person is murdered, both men also face personal strife that will challenge them as individuals and as a couple.

Why this works is the strong feels between these two, of course. Though they’re still finding their groove, the love and support Darren and Andreas give one another only compliments the strengths they each bring to their partnership to get the job done.

This is intense and grounded in reality, made possible by top notch writing that balances action, drama, and sexy, all of which makes for a heady mix that has delivered reliable storytelling thus far!

Andreas and Darren are in search of a serial killer, even as they struggle with the aftermath of what happened in book 1, Suspicious Behavior. As Darren’s family issues continue, Andreas also has personal problems that pop up. I loved how their own relationship solidified as they supported and each other with both work and family issues.

The narration was perfection. Michael Ferraiuolo did an amazing job with distinctive voices for each character. The sing song voice for the serial killer was creepy as hell.

I can’t wait to jump into book 3 and of course, I am going to listen to the audiobook.

I loved book 1, Bad Behavior and I think I loved this one even more! The relationship between Andreas and Darren is so sweet and I love how they respect each other and are there for one another. They really only have themselves and Paula at work to look out for each other. I love a good female character and Paula is that! She's great! Erin is too! I loved seeing more of Andreas' family!

You definitely must read this series in order.

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Felt a bit let down*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

I was kinda expecting more from the ‘newly minted detective’ Darren Corliss (28) and the no longer ‘lone wolf detective’ Andreas Ruffner (how old?). Specially as a couple. Missing that, made the book feel unwhole for me, simply because I wanted to see more of Darren and Andreas on a personal level, where they are closer and have more depth to their relationship. It now sucks though, that I have to freaking wait until 2018 for next book in the series.... Man I hate waiting!

This is book 2 in the the Bad Behavior series. It continues with Darren and Andreas in another suspenseful police procedural.

The MCs romance developed in book 1. They are solidly a couple in this installment. We see more of the challenges they face with their families and jobs as opposed to relationship building.

I do not recommend this one as a stand-alone. There is too much backstory in book 1 that affects the story in book 2. Book 2 should be considered a continuation of what started in book 1.

The plot is another action and suspense filled ride. That's the main attraction for me in these books. They move fast, keep me guessing and explode with a big bang resolution.

Another hit from this duo of authors.

Reread October 2023

Sigh. What a brilliant series! Absolutely love rereading this.

original review

Phew, that was tense and intense.
And awesome.
And gripping.
And heart breaking.
And sigh-worthy.

I think I could probably use a whole page-full of adoring adjectives on this book.
Andreas and Darren are two of the most human, most real guys I’ve read. And if I fell for them in book 1, I’m definitely in for the long haul now.

1. The realism in this book comes through everywhere: in the portrayal of the characters, the hard slog and unimaginable stress of their work, the hurdles that are thrown in their professional way, the ups-and downs of their private lives and the difficulties and hard choices they have to face.
Hats off to the authors for that! I’m intrigued and grateful in equal measures.

2. As in book one Darren’s heart-breaking family problems simply went straight to my heart, ending up in tears for him (and me). Again my heart was shredded in tiny pieces.

3. Seeing hard-ass Andreas in a family situation, witnessing his growly bear protectiveness and ‘sweetness’ (Sorry Andreas, I know you would kick my ass for labelling you with THAT word!) did not only make Darren’s knees weak! Puddles of goo ensued.

4. The bond between Darren and Andreas is growing by the second here. They lean on each other. They need each other for support to go through such an incredibly shitty time. It blew me away how much they get each other, how there isn’t even a second for either wavering in his affection, no matter what.

5. I fervently hate all the other cops in this series. I find it really really really hard to understand this whole completely misguided ‘code of honour’ thing have, how mean and horrible and hypocritical they are. I know people are people, but seeing Andreas and Darren shunned and hated for what? Exposing the bad guys, bringing dirty and corrupted cops to justice and standing up for real values and honesty? Many films and books have shown this before, so there must be some truth to this. Do I get it? Nope.

6. The case the guys are working this time is really well constructed and had me by the proverbial balls.

I could go on, but I’ll save you my rumbles.
Just go and read this series! 😀

[4.75] nothing like getting ostracized by coworkers, feeling overworked on both professional and private fronts, and realizing that the cold cases on hand aren't as cold as initially believed. there is no rest for these two when they are pulled into their next task of capturing a serial killer.

i have nothing more to say besides READ👏🏼THIS👏🏼SERIES👏🏼!! Andreas and Darren are so human and real that there's no resisting my love for them through thick and thin 🥺

This was even better than the first book. The serial killer case Darren & Andreas are investigating shows gripping Detective work. They figured out the perpetrator pretty early so this was not really a case of #whodunnit but of finding a way and the evidence to convict them of their crimes. And I must say, the motivation that drove this particular perpetrator was a new one to me. Great mystery.

There was also a lot going on privately so that these two had their hands full the whole time but it was nice getting to them better

The audio performance by Michael Ferraiuolo was again fantastic, although it sounded a bit like he came down with a cold during recording *lolll

Suspicious Behavior picks up shortly after where Risky Behavior left off. Technically this could be read as a standalone but I would not recommend it since most of Darren and Andreas' relationship development and backstory took place in the first one. That's not to say they're at a standstill here but they are solidly a couple and while there are touching moments between the two the primary plotline is finding a serial killer who's been on the loose for an extended period of time.

This is in my wheelhouse. And I gobbled it up.

I affectionately refer to this kind of read as a popcorn read. It's heavy on the investigative side of finding a serial killer e.g. gathering evidence, finding patterns, following intuition, the two of them working together to piece together the evidence they were given from another precinct and trying to make it stick to their guy. The nitty gritty as it were. I thought the case was well crafted, it held my attention with some nice twists and turns and I found the pattern clever. It also highlighted each of their strengths and how much they compliment one another.

They are still persona non grata in this city due to the events of Risky Behavior. Another reason why I wouldn't recommend this as a standalone. Some of these asshats need lessons in how not to be a child masquerading around in an adult's body. Seriously? Busting taillights? *eye roll* As much as these antics annoyed me I have a feeling they're probably closer to reality than not.

The storyline involving Asher continues to be heartbreaking and takes up a significant part of the narrative. It shows the ripple effect of this illness and how it impacts not just Darren but Andreas too.

So with all of the above going on coupled with the fact that Darren is still recuperating from his injuries the sexy times are pretty much nil. What did happen, though, was a strengthening of their bond. There are several poignant quiet moments that showcased their connection. They spend every night together regardless of other obligations or the lateness of the hour and both are cuddlers which I found to be an unexpected dollop of cuteness from hardass Andreas.

There is no cliffhanger with the case though there is still a big looming question hanging over Darren and Andreas that hopefully will get answered in the next book and won't cause my face to leak.

I'm still loving this series and what these two authors are accomplishing with it. Both these characters are well developed and they've added some great secondary characters that helped push the narrative forward.

If you're a thriller fan you'll likely enjoy Suspicious Behavior too.

YES : confirmation that I’m hooked with this series featuring Darren and Andreas, two detectives that are partners professionally and personally.

This is not a standalone per se. Yes, they have to deal with a new investigation but it’s better to read Risky Behavior first to understand all the B.S. that they are subjected to from their fellows cops and to follow the development of their relationship together.
Darren and Andreas both have baggage and they not only have to deal with a serial killer but also with family issues. And not that I want to spoiler anything, but the topic of early Alzheimer is very present here. And it’s tough.

So, good plot (even better than in book1, imo), a fair amount of romance and hotness (but gosh, all these interruptions nearly killed me) and the balance between romance and suspense was perfect for me.
And now, I’m game for the other 2 books of this series to discover what is awaiting Andreas and Darren and to make sure their bond is solid.

**Note for Simone : Of course, you knew I would love this series and you were so right. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And I have Reckless Behavior already downloaded…I’m so spoiled !!!. <3**

L.A. Witt and Cari Z. have something good together. Them writing together makes for a compelling, exciting read.

This was the second installment in the Bad Behavior series, and in this we find Darren still recovering from almost dying in the first one, although he's getting to the end of his recovery, slowly but surely, and Andreas being there for him, taking care of him, and generally being an amazing boyfriend.

The main focus of this, as with the first, is the crime, this time being a serial killer who likes to kill in a specific pattern - we never find out why he does it that way, but it doesn't really matter to me - and Andreas and Darren have to catch him before he can kill someone else.

But along the way Andreas and Darren have to deal with basically all the cops in the city hating them because there is apparently "honor" among fellow cops and they are seen as betrayers to fellow cops for taking the dirty cops away from their families - which really pisses me off, because cops are NOT and should NOT be exempt from the law and it was those dirty cops' CHOICES to bad people and screw people over, nOT Andreas and Darren. But apparently now they're "In IA's pockets" and shit and mainly i was just done with these asshole cops from the start. There is no "honor" in shunning other cops for doing the right thing which is, theoretically, what cops are supposed to do. So fuck all the other cops except Paula - who is fucking awesome I love her - and maybe Hamilton, their captain.

(I just find it funny that these cops are mad at Andreas and Darren and yet so many of them are happy to call Andreas a drug addict and not care about Andreas being "ratted out" for his "drug use" in the last book. Where was their indignation them for "betraying" the "honor code" ugh sorry I was just pissed at all the cops in this).

Okay, and aside from that and the case, we also delve into Andreas and Darren's personal lives. Darren's brother gets a lot worse in this, and it is hurting Darren greatly throughout this book, plus when Darren has a few gaps in his memory, he and Andreas start to get a little scared - and I did too my godddd - that he had it too (I think he doesn't have it - at least not yet - and it was just the medication and what not, but it was still scary whenever Darren forgot a little thing here and there in the beginning. NOT cool!) but what was beautiful was how Andreas was there for Darren, how he took care of him.

As for Andreas, we get more with his children, with his oldest daughter Erin and his youngest Emily - who was adorable, and I agree with Darren how adorable Andreas was with Emily - and Andreas comes clean about his own personal situation with Erin.

I loved how these two were able to support each other through each other's own personal shit and were able to support each other, neither got scared and ran away, even when in other stories, they might have. (Let's hope they fight through the muck together in the next book, not apart, even though the blurb makes me worry).

Now, that said, this story was still really light on the romance. There was only one smutty scene in this whole book, and it was pretty quick, because these guys had to do before their phones went off, one of them got too tired, ANYTHING that kept interrupting them getting alone time throughout this book. The shit just kept coming, and they rarely got anytime to just be with each other. It frustrated me a lot in this where it didn't in the first, because it felt like the first one had even more romance than this, gotta say, and I was expecting more in this, because they do I was just disappointed we didn't get as much romance as I like.

For others who don't mind the romance being on the back burner, then I'm sure you won't mind the very little romance in this, but as someone who loves romance, it just annoyed me. I love the mystery/suspense along with the romance, not mostly mystery/suspense with some romantic moments here or there spread throughout. Made the beginning pretty slow for me until it really got into the case, which was exciting.

I just hope the last book gives me a lot more romance then less. My hopeless romantic heart craves it haha.

Overall still wonderful, and I still loved this, I just needed the romance piled on thanksss (also, more smut wouldn't have hurt. And now that .

Definitely recommend for those who loved the first one, because this book feels exactly like the first, and is just as exciting. Just don't expect a lot of romance - but still some sweet moments, just not too in depth, romance wise.

3.5. I flew through this one. Way better mystery and investigation than the first book. Yeah, it was still OTT but I enjoyed it and for once Darren was a good investigator. Not sure about Andreas' skills but still. I'm not sure what to think about them being ostracized in the police for what happened in book 1: they got a lot of cops in prison and are hated for it. It kind of make sense but the extent it went to maybe was too far.
I really liked how those two really supported and leaned on each other when they had to deal with family stuff. No relationship angst which was nice: we just get to see them be with each other. Yes, they can't catch a break or their breath but their bond is strong. One thing bugs me: where is this story set? I don't know, it's a large city, not in California or New York but that's all we know and I don't like not knowing. We have no weather or landmark clues... If anyone know please tell me.

Loved it. Loved the narration even more. I’ve actually decided to do the rest of the series in audio because of the excellent delivery given . It was just perfection.

The story itself was great with an obvious bad guy but without the ample evidence to bring him in. Coupled with the whole police force’s vendetta against our MCs, it made for quite the difficult case to crack.

This took a huge toll on them physically, mentally and emotionally but like in the previous books, these men leaned on one another and solved the case superbly!!

I cannot wait to move on to the next one! Apparently it’s another wringer!

It's time for a little game of catch me if you can...murder style...

Corliss and Ruffner somehow survived the events of 'Risky Behavior' but at what price? Detective Darren Corliss is barely holding himself together between the injuries he suffered in their last case, going back to work at a precinct that's not only less than friendly but views him and his partner Andreas Ruffner as villains for bringing down enough dirty cops and politicians to cause a staffing crisis at several precincts and city hall. Darren's also got a brother who's suffering from early onset Alzheimer's which has left him with his own fears about whether or not he'll share his brothers condition. Along with a lot of Darren's worries. Andreas has a few of his own but he seems to be holding it together a little better.

But both men would definitely agree that what they need is to get back to work...or at least that's what they thought until they were handed some cold cases...cold cases that at first glance only had one connection...the killer. However, once they start to find the connections it quickly becomes clear that there's a clock ticking. One that they have to beat if they want to stop another murder from happening.

The mystery here wasn't really the who did it, I actually figured that part out fairly quickly it was all about the how and why of things. While I really enjoyed the mystery, it was the relationship development between Darren and Andreas that happened in this book that I really loved about the most.

Admittedly there wasn't a lot of sex in this story and that's ok because there was a lot going on and honestly in real life chances are pretty good that there really wouldn't be much going on in the romance department between the serial killer case, Andreas's kids, Darren's brother, recovering from injuries and the abuse they're being exposed to from their fellow officers, if they'd been having sex like bunnies I'd have thought I was reading a fantasy story.

I found that the relationship growth was shown in the emotional exchanges and immediate unquestioning support that Darren and Andreas gave to each other...when Darren was there to help Andreas deal with his ex and her problems and I maybe melted a little over Darren's internal and sometimes external gushing about Andreas with his kids and there was Andreas's support of Darren as he dealt with his brother combined with their support of each other as partners at work...there was no hesitation or questioning of whether or not they had each other's backs it was just a done deal.

Book #1 Risky Behavior laid the ground work for this series and the relationship between these two men as they dealt with corruption and found their way together as partners both on and off duty and now with book #2 Suspicious Behavior we're given more action and a closer look at Darren and Andreas as they deal with life as a team both on a personal and professional level.

I was totally hooked on this series with the first book and this one has not changed that decision even slightly...except for the fact that if anything I'm even more anxious to get my hands on the next book. I just read the blurb and holy hell, it's going to be good...seriously good.

I love a good steamy romance story as much as the next person but what I love even more is a story with substance...characters with depth who grow, a plot that I can follow but that also challenges me and most of all one that leaves me wanting more. 'Suspicious Behavior' does all this and then some.

Another great installment in this series. Andreas & Darren continue to live and work on a knifes edge. After uncovering high level corruption they have both become somewhat shunned by their police colleagues as rats who work for IA. They are given no support or breathing space and really only have each other and the odd friend to look out for them. This was a cat & mouse storyline which had both Andreas & Darren working manically to solve the case. Of course they are smart, loyal and deeply committed to each other so the job gets done and issues become challenged. There is a huge opening for book 3 where I hope we get a little more "partner time" - I love their chemistry but there's not enough !

Suspicious Behavior is the follow-up for Risky Behavior, which was released in May 2017. If the first book plays rather heavily on the procedural/mystery while at the same time developing the romance between Andreas and Darren, this book is more about the consequences of Andreas and Darren shaking up the department (and the city) while navigating their status as something more than professional partners.

Andreas and Darren are basically pariahs at their precinct now. No one wants to work with them because they are considered traitors. Cops don't rat out other cops. Both men resort to take a case from other precinct; cases that might link to a serial killer that has never been caught.

Urgh, I wanted to smack down the other detectives who make it difficult for Andreas and Darren to do their job. Fuc*king a$$holes! I really don't get the whole "blue bloods" loyalty thing. Those cops exposed are dirty, damn it! Or maybe I'm never really do well with authority who abuses their power :p.

As for Andreas and Darren, I loved that they were solid, despite the problems from work or Darren's family (as in his brother's declining health). I think this time the spotlight falls on Darren. He is dealing with the possibility of carrying the same early-onset Alzheimer’s gene as his brother. Darren worries about that, and he worries that he cannot do his job well.

Previously Andreas is the difficult one, the jackass who doesn't play nice with his partners. In here though, Andreas accepts his relationship with Darren. He ... mellows a bit, I think. Repeatedly Andreas says that he wants to help Darren deal with both physical stress and emotional stress. He also comes forward about his health and relationship status with his daughter.

I definitely enjoyed the change!

The mystery is not as heavy as the first book; we find out who the bad guy is about halfway. I don't mind though, I enjoyed the change towards more personal plot. Plus reading about Andreas' interaction with his youngest daughter was ADORABLE!

So another satisfying read for me -- too bad I have to wait until next year to read book #3 (damn it!). I mean the BLURB!! It promises intense action!!

Sadly, this was not an improvement. The case was ridiculous and obvious, the police procedure was even more idiotic, and I find it hard to believe that no one was glad to get rid of a bunch of dirty cops, judges, etc., the point they were harassing Darren and Andreas to this extent. A few of them, maybe, but come on. But I guess the authors wanted to come up with still more ways for everyone else to be douchebags to the MCs here, so joy for that. 🙄

The relationship part was pretty weak, with the focus on Darren's brother and his issues, and the case, and Andreas's kids make small appearances too. It was nice to see Andreas in Dad mode though.

And wasn't the theft case just something they fabricated? But somewhere along the line, they forgot that and arrested a guy for the theft when they should've put him in protective custody instead. I guess at least they didn't plant drugs on him, so yay? 🤦🏻‍♀️

So I'm done with this series. At least it was free. 😂

Suspicious Behavior is book #2 in the Bad Behavior series about Detectives Darren Corliss and his partner Andreas Ruffner. I don't feel as if it's absolutely necessary for you to read book #1 in order to follow this one, but I would recommend it. Book 1 focuses a bit more on them starting their relationship. In this book, they are already together, but it focuses much more on the events around them than their actual relationship. They are trying to catch a serial killer before he kills his next victim, and also dealing with some family issues on both sides. While I very much enjoyed the suspense/mystery aspect of the story, I thought the romance side of things was lacking a lot in this one. I missed their chemistry and sweet moments together. There were a few great moments between them but I wanted a bit more. I understand the primary focus in this one being their jobs and family tho, because it made the story feel more "real". Some times with as crazy as life can get, it's hard to find moments together. I liked that Suspicious Behavior started the ball rolling with them realizing how deep their feelings for each other were, and for Andreas to come clean to his daughter about his diagnoses and his relationship with Darren. I can't wait to see what the next book brings!

After relishing the first book of the series from this duo of favorite authors, of course I loved this! It is equally excellent, both in characterization and plot execution. Despite, or actually because of, cleaning the precincts of dirty cops, the rest of the department now sees Andreas and Darren as snitches and no longer trustworthy. Taking over Trent Newberry’s old cases pulls them into a search for a different kind of serial killer. They’re under a deadline to find them and both have to cope with familial issues as well. Time constraints, lack of sleep and unavoidable interruptions, means little intimacy, and once again, it’s very low steam level (haz a sad).

But the investigation is gripping, with red herrings and dead ends and just enough about the mundane details and dogged pursuit of suspects and witnesses. There are numerous scenes of Darren and his brother, with his worsening condition, and Andreas with his older daughter, his ex and his youngest daughter. Having more background for Andreas showed him as far more than just a hard-edged cop. This made the narrative flow and kept it interesting and exciting. Andreas’s daughter Erin works in the precinct and is able to assist them with searching files, which gives her a little time to get to know Darren. Friend and detective, Paula, has remained loyal and plays a crucial part in the climactic scenes of the story.

While this is a complete case with a resolution to the suspense, I think book one should be read first. I wouldn’t want to miss the relationship development between Andreas and Darren, or all the nuances that have a bearing on this sequel. There were more romantic elements to this story than the first, including discussion, commitment and declarations between Darren and Andreas. I’m really anticipating a lot from book three. Both authors have plenty of experience and skill and I’m thinking there will be more emotional payoff for patient readers and for this dynamic couple.

Wow, what a book! I love Darren and Andreas together. They work so well as partners, and at home they are just there for each other no matter what. While recovering from his wound, Darren gets to experience Andreas in a mother hen mode. He likes the attention and caring since his family is dealing with a serious issue. His brother Asher has deteriorated to the point that he has to be moved to a home. It's a devastating blow for Darren but Andreas is there to offer a shoulder to lean on when it gets too much.

Andreas finally cracked the den of corruption that is the City Hall. Unfortunately with the multitude of arrests every dirty cops has fallen, and the both of them are blamed for the hardships that their families will face. So while struggling with the mountain of paperwork, he also has to contend with petty accidents intent on humiliating him and Darren. Adding to that is the fact that his daughter Erin has found out his carefully kept secret - that he is HIV positive. While both men struggle to come to terms with everything that's going on, they get a bunch of cold cases left from the dirtiest cop of them all, Trent. When Darren finds the common pattern, it turns deadly fast.

I loved the case. It was different in a sense that they figured out who it was before anything else. And it showed how much of red tape is involved in police work. That even if you know who the villain is, without proof you've got nothing. They work tirelessly to uncover even a shred of evidence pointing at the culprit but they uncover even more than they expected - the killer is smart, vicious and sadistic, he feeds off of human misery and will kill again. They race against time to stop innocent people from getting hurt. It was so well done! I loved it! There is nothing like a tension filled investigation conducted by smart sarcastic detectives who are willing to bend the rules to get to the truth. Wonderful read and I highly recommend it!

Wow, that case was... I have no words! So convoluted, so thought provoking! I loved the suspense, the tension and how both Andreas and Darren stood shoulder to shoulder in times of adversity. They faced serious backlash after helping to uncover so many dirty cops. Poor guys, the $h!t they had to wade through every day to simply do their job.

Their relationship was not easy one. They threw themselves into it and the feelings kept intensifying. I loved the support, the understanding between them and the knowledge they both had that no matter what they will be there no matter what. It was pretty low on steam but so rich on feelings. I loved them together.

I don't know how I feel about this series. I like it, up to a point. A lot of it is just improbable and not realistic. The policework, their interactions with other police officers, their relationships with family. Although I did think that Andreas relationship with his brother seemed right. He has Alzheimer's and is like 35, which totally sucks, and Andreas really loves his brother, but hates seeing him in pain and fear.

As for the serial killer, yeah, that was just so hard to swallow. I was with them up to a point, until

I give this 3 stars, and yes I do believe I will read the next in the series. The stories aren't bad but they just aren't great. If you read this with your eyes wide open and don't bring logic into it, you will be fine. ;)

Damn, now I wish I'd held out on starting that "no rounding up" resolution, because this was really good...like, really, really good.

I'm a bit picky about case-work and leaps of logic when it comes to LEO-themed stories, and I have to say that this one was pretty sound (as far as I can tell). The way the action unfolds kept me guessing until about a half-second before either guy decided who the unsub was, too. #Points for that!

Plus, guh, something about these guys together is just romantically hot. I mean, yeah, the sex is good...but it's the small gestures, the looks, the consideration they have for each other that really melts me. I've always love establish-relationship tales, so I'm a sucker for series books that follow the same pairing...and the details of Darren and Andreas together really sell the ongoing romance.

I hope that this first finished book of 2019 is a portent for all the good reads/audiobooks to come!

(PS: As always, Michael Ferraiuolo nails the narration. He's amazing with accents but I seem to never comment on how good he is at performing the voices so that everyone sounds just a little bit different.)

I enjoyed this one. In this installment we find Darren and Andreas a few months down the road. Darren is still recovering from his injuries from book one so the guys are working on cold cases. They come across some cases that they realize show the pattern of a serial killer.

This had an interesting case and I thought that aspect was entertaining and well done. My favorite part of this book though was the development between the two MC's. Their relationship was still tentative by the end of the first book but I really started feeling their connection in this one. They have some great scenes together.

I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series and am glad there's not too long a wait. I especially can't wait to get to the fourth book. I'm expecting a lovely hea.
