Leest lekker weg, heerlijk vakantievoer. Dit boek is een kort, wat klucht-achtig verhaal, met soort van cliff hanger op het eind. Het is niet af, wat maakt dat ik deel twee vlug begin!

Nina heeft er altijd al van gedroomd om actrice te worden en ze heeft al een paar keer een bijrol gekregen. Eindelijk had ze een rol in een populaire serie, maar hier blijkt haar personage in te sterven. Dezelfde dag krijgt ze ook het nieuws dat ze een bepaalde rol die ze heel graag wou niet heeft gekregen. Hierdoor is ze zichzelf niet meer en doet ze een aantal dingen die haar nogal negatief in het nieuws zetten. Ze besluit om weg te gaan uit Londen en naar Devon te gaan. Ze komt hier terug in contact met iemand die ze al heel lang niet meer gezien heeft en beluit om hem te helpen zijn vakantiehuisjes te verhuren. Dit bevalt haar wel, maar wat moet ze met haar droom om actrice te worden na haar blunders.
In het verhaal volg je Nina. Ze is een goed bedacht personage en komt realistisch over. Ze heeft haar goede en haar slechte kanten en haar acties zijn begrijpbaar. Als ze haar zelfcontrole verliest en hierdoor een aantal zaken doet die haar negatief in het nieuws brengen, krijg je als lezer medelijden met haar. Door de uitwerking van de gebeurtenissen is het heel begijpbaar waarom ze zo reageert en dit maakt haar alleen maar realistisch.
Ook komen er een aantal andere personages in voor. Theo is een oude bekende van Nina en ook hij wordt goed uitgewerkt en maakt zelfs een mooie evolutie door in het verhaal.
De omgeving van Brightside Cove wordt heel goed omschreven. Tijdens het lezen kan je je zo inbeelden dat je daar bent zonder hier pagina’s lange beschrijvingen van nodig te hebben. Een goede schrijfstijl dus.
De eerste gasten in Brightside Cove is het eerste deel van een vierdelige reeks die echt perfect is om even ontspannend te kunnen lezen. Doordat het boek niet al te dik is en de auteur een vlotte schrijfstijl heeft, is het boek ook snel uit. De personages zijn realistisch, wat ervoor zorgt dat je je makkelijk kan inleven. I really enjoyed this. it's split into four but not out fully so we have to read them 1 by 1 ugh. anyway I really like it.
the main character has had to run from London because she's an Actress where her soap star has been killed off and she's getting another role but a sneaky uneducated daddy's baby gets the job and her agent is screwing her and she finds out. so she goes nuts.... assault... you get the message. so she flees to Exeter to see her brother to let all this blow over and lie low so she's goes incognito.
her brother collects her and he takes her to a lovely cottage overlooking the sea to buy an old vintage car but something odd is happening.... the bailiffs are there reposessing everything because he's suffered a death and a broken marriage and doesn't know where to start....
all of these r friends so she helps him out and before you know it he's running the cottage as a self catering holiday cottage business and hopefully he will get his wife back. then the London ppl get hold of her and she isn't killed off... runs back to London for the next instalment.

Another 100-page Devon chick lit novel. This must be a new genre I wasn’t aware of! Apparently there’s a complete novel being released (all 4 books in 1), but not until late July. Go figure. The ‘book’ itself is fine and entertaining enough, although I’m not too keen on protagonist Nina’s behaviour at times, especially her attempts at consoling a married former crush whose life has fallen apart. Who uses their finger to blot away the tears of someone they haven’t seen in years and never actually was close to? Or comforts them by sitting close enough to rub shoulders while they’re opening up about how it all went wrong? Anyway, “Neen” (I know, so close!) is quite likeable apart from that. It’s all a bit rose-tinted glasses at times, but that’s chick lit for you. I will definitely be moving on to book 2!

Book 1 of a 4 part book series. Note to readers, you can either read this as a 4 part book series like I’m going to or there is a full length novel which includes all of the 4 parts should you prefer to read it in that format.
Great start to the series, enjoyed getting to know the characters especially main character of Nina, as well as Theo who although starts off as not having it easy as is down on his luck and still grieving, things do start looking up when Nina steps in to help.
There’s certainly seems to be a lot of drama, part 1 wasn’t that long but it sure packed enough in, but it was perfect not too much at all. Right without further ado, I’m heading straight into part 2 of the series.

Nina, an actress has been killed off in her war time role as a nurse. A series of events in London based around her manager and her not getting a role promised to her makes Nina escape the paparazzi to the country, specifically to the small village of Brightside Cove. Here she finds herself having to play another role, and helping her brother's friend out of a fix. All is going well, until Nina meets Eliza, a shop worker who spills the beans on Nina's whereabouts which leaves Nina in a pickle of what to do next.

Ik las zeer enthousiaste berichten over dit eerste deel van de serie die zich in Brightsite Cove afspeelt. Dit eerste deel is vermoedelijk zo’n 100blz en ik luisterde het op 1,5. Het wordt voorgelezen door Liss Walravens, niet een van mijn favoriete stemmen moet ik zeggen en het verhaal vond ik ook maar zo-zo. Geen elektriciteit en dan ga je in je bed in de avond een boek liggen lezen, hoe dan? Zo waren er nog een paar van die kleine irritaties en ik ben er derhalve ook nog niet uit of ik deel 2 tot en met 4 ook moet gaan luisteren.

de eerste pagina's vond ik een beetje moeilijker om er door te komen. Je voelt aan alles dat het fout loopt, goed fout loopt en het hoofdpersonage gaat maar door en door en zucht, je kan haar niet tegenhouden.
maar dan plots keert het tij en krijg je sympathie voor de personages en geniet je van een fijn verhaal. Het einde komt er dan ook vrij plots en doet je uitkijken naar het volgende deel van deze serie

Another fabulous opening to a news series of novellas from Cathy Bramley.
Cathy is a master at wohat she doesn. I am really looking forward to reading the rest of this series. It is heartwarming and hopeful and not based fully around romance like so many of these books.

Brilliant Read
When Nina's character is dramatically killed off, it triggers real life events which just keep on coming.
Does she really want to go back to London, and her well paid but uninspiring job, or is the call of her temporary life better?

Op zich is het een leuk verhaal maar het is niet af. Het verhaal loopt gewoon door in boek 2,3 en 4, alsof een boek is opgeknipt in 4 delen om ze los te kunnen verkopen. Gelukkig heb ik hem via mijn abonnement gelezen maar ik zou me flink bekocht voelen

De meeste feelgood boeken hebben altijd een liefdesrelatie en deze heeft dat niet en dat vond ik absoluut niet erg, maar wel eens leuk voor de verandering. Ook zat er een stukje in waarbij ik tranen in mijn ogen had. Verder wel een echt feelgood boek, heerlijk om naar te luisteren.

What a sumptuously idyllic read! I was so happily wrapped up in the story, and the truth be told I would love to move to Devon and set up a camp at The Driftwood Lodge right about now!
I loved following Nina on her seascape to Devon. Nina is a wonderful character that makes you instantly fall in love with.
Cathy Bramley has such an engaging writing style that paints the setting of Brightside Cove so vividly, and the storyline is so tantalising that I simply can't wait for the next instalment.
