I grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Sydney and as a keen horse rider, often competed in local gymkhanas and even broke in a few horses from time to time. As I was surrounded by animals, I decided at an early age to become a nurse, however I couldn’t stand the sight of blood and so opted for a career in teaching. It’s a bit ironic that I married a surgeon.

I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was 17 and that encouraged me to continue reading romance novels; the lure of the tall dark handsome hero, who in reality I fell in love with and knew I was going to marry on our second date! After marrying a year later, we moved to Scotland with our six week old baby so my husband could work and study for his MD in surgery. After the birth of our second son we came back to Australia to settle in Tasmania.

I went back to University and up-graded my teaching diploma to a degree and then went on to do a Masters but still I felt as if something was missing. I sat down one day and began writing and everything clicked into place - I had finally found ‘my brilliant career’! I used to write from instinct rather than a specific plan, but now, so many books later I find a loose plan doesn't go astray. An idea will pop into my head, sometimes it will be just a simple phrase or a what if question and I'm away.

Writing is a skill that can be learned and the best way to learn it is to read and to write. So many people feel they have a novel in them and very probably they are right-the only trick is to get it out. My advice to ‘would be’ writers is to write, write, and write even more. Carry a notebook at all times and jot down ideas. And like any other activity the more you do, the more it feels comfortable.

I hope you enjoy my stories and look forward to hearing from you.

Premise: Heroine was hero's father's nurse. When he dies he leaves his estate to the hero and the heroine equally provided they marry for a year. The heroine agrees because her sister needs money. The hero wants to keep the family villa.

The heroine might have fallen for the hero's "bad boy charm," but all I saw was the bad. He accused her of being a whore and a golddigger and sleeping with his terminally ill father until the 60% mark. And then he only grudgingly accepted her word because he wanted to have sex. When he found she was a virgin how did he show his "bad boy charm"? He accused her of giving him a pity f*ck because he had told her about his guilt for causing his brother's death.

Charm. Charm. Charm.

The heroine was supposed to an "angel" but she had nothing on the Grand Inquisitors of old. Whenever the hero got tired of calling her a whore and she had the talking stick, she just asked intrusive questions. Questions like - how did you feel when your mother died when you were just six years old?

How do you think he felt, Sherlock?

But once they start having sex, our angelic heroine harps, harps, harps on the hero's past sex life and asks jealous questions during every phone call. Plus she lies and says she's on birth control and . . .

Angel. Angel. Angel.

If I repeat it enough, I'll believe it.

Disappointing. The H wasn’t cruel enough to the h. He even apologized to her after raising his voice at her or after saying something mean. How disgusting! Does he not know this isn’t how men usually conduct themselves in HP books. Rafaele has brought shame to all HP men. Damn him to hell! 👺

The blurb was half right. Heroine was financially desperate, but she turned out to be emotionally desperate as well. I actually liked Emma at the beginning, however, she soon transformed into a whiny and pathetic mess after receiving a sample of the hero's Lusty Lance of Pleasure. Unrequited love can be painful, yes, but there's a difference between being desperately in love and acting on that desperation. Not a good look.

I also didn't believe in Rafael's declaration of love. He only said it to make Emma feel better (i.e., stop her whining) as he still had his eyes on the real prize. Prior to this, he'd been calling her a gold-digging slut/tramp/whore, warning her off, and avoiding time with her especially after she took him up on his offer for sex. Basically not acting, talking, or thinking like a man in love.

It didn't help either that the author's writing style had her characters talking about what's happening between them while it's happening. (Zzz) And while the sex scenes were explicit they didn't come off as steamy or romantic.

This started out decent, but ultimately I found nothing to rave about. (It's my fault for reading it as I totally forgot to check the reviews, duh.) The only saving grace and sole character whom I felt any empathy for didn't even appear on screen: Rafael's tragic father whose story ends unhappily.

Ugh.

FORCED MARRIAGE!

MOC!

MANWHORE MEETS VIRGIN!

Hero forced to wed father's nurse and possible mistress in order to get the family villa.

The hero is a charmless pig that takes every opportunity to insult the heroine with charming epithets like gold-digger and I think even slut while he puts the moves on her. For the inevitable six feet and something of Italian yumminess he is simply gross and crude.

The dingbat h is a nurse but doesn't know intermittent birth control use can lead to pregnancy? Frankly, she gets pregnant on purpose and that's never charming.

As far as her emotional state, either she or the author confused being open with her love with needy, whiny and frankly embarrassing behavior that shows no self-respect or pride whatsoever. Occasionally I can buy a heroine that is in love with the hero and the love is reciprocated, but it takes a delicate touch and a better approach that was done here. The heroine is as big of a fail in her own way as the hero was.

Normally, I would add a star for readers who love angst, but I can't with this one. The angst and protestations of love don't ring sincere. Just because the author says they are in love and lust doesn't make it so.

I'm kind of bummed to be rating a Melanie Milburne story so low. I usually can't go wrong with one of her stories, but this one was a huge letdown for me. This story sounded right up my alley. Rude hero forced to marry (who he believes is) his father's mistress in order to get his share of his inheritance. Rafaele believes his father is punishing him with this little act, since he and his father hadn't seen or spoken to each other in many years before his father's death. This story started out pretty nicely for me. I like an a hole hero and Rafaele definitely fit that bill, and he put Emma through the paces. He constantly tore her down and demeaned her, and called her every slutty name he could creatively come up with. The story steadily went downhill from there.

Emma was a pathetic doormat, and even through she would always declare her innocence, she never truly got mad at Rafaele for his horrific treatment of her. She always tried to reason within herself why Rafaele acted and felt the way he did. Virginal Emma fell into bed so easily with Rafaele that it was embarrassing. And kept falling in bed with him even though he told her this thing between them was temporary until their sexual attraction to each other ran its course. Then Emma became a clingy, annoying brat; nosily asking uncomfortable personal questions of Rafaele, while trying to psychoanalyze him. It felt like Emma was pathetically using sex to try to get him to commit to her when she should have been moving on to find someone who actually wanted her, not just someone just using her for sex until he got his inheritance.
Then the ending was entirely too easy.

This is a very worn out trope and plot. The h/H are forced to marry by a manipulative will. She had nursed his father during his last days and the H is positive - had also shared the old man’s bed because why else would he be so benevolent to her in his will. So they start off on a bad footing, with him calling her all kinds of names. But the attraction is mutual and fiery. They decide to get married to satisfy the terms of the will and also their mutual lust!

The sex scenes are hot, explicit and plentiful. She gives him the usual virgo intacta surprise. He is surprised but not deterred from his ‘principled manhoe’ dictums of I-make-no-promises and lets-enjoy-what-we-have-till-it-lasts.

She, of course, falls for him like a ton of bricks and goes from a fighting lady to a needy, clingy, truculent child. But I couldn’t dislike her. Her excitement and wonder at her newfound feelings and sexuality are done well. She understands it would be difficult to hold his interest for long and keeps yo-yoing between excitement and despair. She tells him of her love only to be politely rebuffed and so she stops saying it at all after a while. Her jealous and insecure ranting and nagging were not necessarily irritating, rather were quite believable.

Of course, this is not an elaborate plot, so it all wraps up predictably. The ending was a bit abrupt and anticlimactic. I think some drama in the penultimate phase is always good.

This book starts with the hero coming off as a real jerk. He's rude, arrogant, a womanizer, and has a heart of stone. But somehow over the book, you get to see that he has a heart that was crushed by a very traumatic incident in his past, and by his father's indifference. I wanted to continue disliking him, but I found I could not. At least he was honest about being what he was.

He didn't try to lie to the heroine and pretend to be a good person. But over time, with the unconditional love he received from the heroine, he became a better person, or perhaps the man he would have been if his life had not been so damaged by his past.

Emma, our heroine is nursing Valentino Fiorenza. When he dies he states in his will she must marry his son, notorious playboy Rafaele Fiorenza. Emma needs the money so she eagerly accepts. Rafaele thinks Emma is a gold-digger and a whore and that she was his father's mistress but he has no choice, he has to marry her or else he will lose his villa.

I loved this book. Hero is your typical hot alpha hero, he is tortured and broken and he is also a sex god so poor Emma does not stand a chance. He treats Emma with contempt and anger despite being attracted to her. He fights his feelings but what he doesn't know is that Emma is already deeply in love and she won't give up on him.

Emma is such an adorable person, who managed to be sweet and charming despite having horrible parents and a bad childhood. I adored her honesty and giving nature. She is a breath of fresh air and always looks for the good in those around her. Her unconditional love heals and saves Rafaele from a lonely miserable existence. She is a saintly heroine and just what our cynical, bitter hero needs!

The H was a real butthead during the first half of the book. The h was his father’s caretaker and he accused her of being a gold digging whore every chance her could. Then he learned first hand how wrong he was and changed his tune.

The h had the patience of a saint to continue to put up with the constant verbal abuse by the manwhore she was forced to marry. Without her agreement, he would have lost his family home on the shore of Lake Como and controlling interest in his father’s company. You’d think he would be kinder to her.

I did have a couple issues with the book.

If the h’s sister and niece were in such a tight spot, why didn’t she use her marriage to get them out of there. She just sent them some money and that was the end of it? She’s supposed to be this paragon but it’s only where the H is concerned? Not for her sister who protected her?

I didn’t believe the H when he said “I love you” the first time. He was placating her. It was just to casual. There was no real emotion behind it.

It was an ok book. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either. Kinda the same way the H felt for the h. It was just - ok.

Raffael spent the better half of the book calling emma a slut who had trapped his father. Each time he wud see her, he wud ask if she had slept with the old man or another comment in this genre. I was annoyed and bored wid his attitude and really had had enough of the book! So I skipped a few pages and continued to read. At dat point, he had discovered she was really a virgin and he absolved her of all guilt. Mine! The double standards of HP heroes! He still did not want her permanently though! And emma was absolutely pathetic! She practically begged him to love her!

Ah yes, the classic sleazy guy with the broken heart. Gets me every time. Isn't it amazing what we'll forgive in a guy when we know his poor little heart was broken and traumatised in the past? There is nothing new in this story but Melanie Milburne delivers it very well. Rafaele is so annoying and nasty to start with it's going to take something really special to break him down and turn him into someone worthwhile and lovable. Enter Emma, a feisty little nurse with a heart of gold and a background that should have ground her to the dust. Heaven help us but this gem of a girl manages to fall in love with Rafaele in spite of everything. One glimpse of his tragic childhood and soft hearted Emma is opening up her heart to him. Unfortunately the hero is one stubborn cuss of a man and it's going to take some doing for Emma to melt him. How her tender heart is going to cope is just one of the problems that this couple are going to face on the way to the HEA. Ms Milburne paints a wonderful picture of a developing relationship with two people who intend right from the start to fight their attraction to the bitter end. How she resolves it makes for a seriously enjoyable story and a satisfactory ending. The sex sizzles at a fairly high octane level which made me raise my brows a little now and then but then what can you expect when the heroes only claim to fame in relationships is how good he is in bed.

Emma has cared for an elderly Italian until his death. Now she finds out that the only way is son will inherit the family castello is to marry her! Cynical about women, Rafaele believes that Emma was actually his father's mistress & that she somehow convinced the father to include her in the will.

Of course Rafaele is completely wrong and the two have to work out their problems.

After she slept with him (she was a virgin), she tells him she loves him. But he doesn’t say it back.

After that she keeps nagging him that he doesn’t love her.

It was embarrassing how desperate for his love she was.

I think my IQ just dropped. This was an awful book with an awful plot written in an awful manner.

Where do I begin?
We have a female character whole fell in love with a man, apparently at first sight, after he called her a whore and continued to call her a whore for the first half of the book. She kept irritatingly nosing around to know his past, even when he told her to stop nosing around. She kept throwing herself at him, cheapening herself by declaring her love over and over again which he kept refusing and still slept with him after it. She was also so irrational, fighting with him then missing him then fighting again then sleeping with him (aka cheapening herself).

The male character, on the other hand, was straight forward about where he stands. He didn't want love or commitment, just good time. However, he miraculously fell in love with her by the end of the book, meaning on their 8th week anniversary.

The plot was ridiculous and the dialogue even more so. I know it's a harlequin book but come on, at least have a logical plot and sequence of events.

In my opinion, I think the author should quit this job because she sucks at it.

It started off okay, the hero was kind of an ass, and the heroine was feisty, but in the second half of the book it all fell apart. The heroine just ruined the whole book for me, she goes from somewhat feisty to pathetic so fast it makes your head spin. This heroine is probably the whiniest, most pathetic and irritating heroine I've read in a long time, and I've read about a lot of them. Like where is your self-respect girl!! I mean I have noticed that while most harlequin have a lot of Pride, they usually don't have even the vaguest idea of self-worth and self-respect, but this one had neither pride nor self-respect!! she was just so whiny and insecure! It's okay to be insecure but to literally be naggy and whiny to the hero about it!, i mean like this guy has made it clear that he doesn't want anythign long-term and she does want somethign long-term so what does she do nag and whine!! I mean if I was a hero and had to deal with her I probably would've made finding someone else my first priority rather then deal with her nonsense!

This was really a pathetic book. He called her names like slut, whore whatnot and he treated her like shit half the time and like a whore the other half. She was a weak af moron with no thought process. Honestly, she's one of those doormats that evolution should have killed off centuries ago. I actually hated this book. There was no actual story in it. The same old recycled Harlequin except somehow worse than all the others combined.

Trash! Trash! Trash!... Oh.. Did I say trash? Yes, absolutely.
The heroine is absolutely irrevocably ninny, who can't seemed to made up her stupid mind.
The hero(hero? Arrggh) is a douchebag..absolutely irrevocably douchebag.
If only I can slap them both, I will and I would!
The author made a very good job on making this terrible book.
I just signed up here in goodreads for one purpose only.. so that I can rant and have my peace of mind again after reading this book!

***** for the h who speaks her mind, without any fear...she takes money from H makes it clear on the first opportunity that it's for her sister..
H wanted to bed other women again she made it clear if he will be having an affair so will be she, whenever she had any doubt she confronted him openly without delay and made it clear that she won't be tolerating it...she told him that she Loves him and expected to be loved in return..
Even the news of her pregnancy she shares it with her husband bravery, denying any blame ...
Three cheers for the brave and clear minded heroin Emma
I appreciate H also that the moment he decided to make a commitment with h he broke all ties with him s mistress, though he considerd h as a good digger being very harsh with her but he was a first Greek hero who immedialy made apologise with the h and remain loyal to her..
*The H father who had been out of contact with his son made a clause in his will that he will have to merry h his father s nurse and keep it till one yea to claim his inheritance that includes family Villa and family fortune..h the Playboy son thinks h is his father's mistress and despise her
But he doesn't want to loose Family home so he gets married to the h . Slowly slowly his all misunderstanding s come clear and how the new couple come closer ...
It's very beautifully nerrated ,h handles OW remarkably well by giving her an out then and there only and instead of running away she confront s her husband and clears everything,so it's a happy ending

Holy cow this one is one of the most dysfunctional couples I have read about in awhile. The hero was verbally abusive to the extreme when met heroine and even after taking her virginity he rejected her and still said bad things to and about her. As for heroine WTAF?? She was extremely unstable and did not seem to have self respect, she still slept with him after he called her a whore constantly without him even even apologizing. Then when they were together she was constantly accusing him of cheating and having meltdowns of tears and accusations when he didn't take her with him on work trips. How does the hero love that? He is horrible and a jerk but seriously she's unstable. P.

Thought this one would be better. But our kind, sensible heroine loses her marbles after she and the hero touch. On a repetitive loop she gets jealous when he steps outside the door. The guy seems incapable of changing. I think if the father was still alive and the relationship is mended then the father dies this would have worked, but nah. Just over and over, same fight, then of course accidental pregnancy. Then a RANDOM villainess in the LAST CHAPTER, which makes no sense but to give an ex machina wrap up to the story. Good start but completely craps out midway through. Skip it. There is better out there.

The book could have been written better. I liked the first half of it, but sadly it turned into a book that I would most likely throw out of the window. And don't get me started with the h. ugh! She started out great then became an overemotional, clingy, needy, pathetic excuse of a woman. The H was just meh.

Skim read. Constant repetitive cyclical conversations of ‘you seduced my dad for the inheritance’ vs ‘no, i took care of him in his last days’. Usual, the hero only believes her when he has sex and encounters her v i r g i n i t y.
