The Sexth Sense #6

Live And Yearn

Charles Roussel knows he can hardly expect Nanette Vicknair to greet him with open arms. After all, not only did he abandon her twelve years ago, but now he's the reason her home is in jeopardy. Still, he desperately wants to fix things for her, for them.

Then a car accident flings Charles into a nether world, neither alive nor dead. And he's not finding it so bad….

Especially when he discovers he can visit Nan's bed every night and seduce her in her sleep.

Nanette might have been able to withstand Charles's sexual assaults in the flesh, but when he infiltrates her dreams, she's powerless to resist. She wants Charles. She's always wanted Charles. But can Nan bring him back before it's too late? And considering how mind-blowing their sex life has been recently, is she even sure she wants to?

"Live and Yearn" is the final book in author Kelley St.John's 'sexth sense' series. This Harlequin Blaze series is about a family of mediums who help recently deceased spirits address the issues keeping them from 'crossing over'. After Katrina damaged their plantation home, the family has been worried that if they lose their home, they will also lose their link to the spirit world. This final book in the series finally tells us what's up with Nanette, the eldest medium, and Charles Roussel, her arch nemesis and head of the group who will determine whether or not she and her family will keep their beloved home.

I found this book a worthy ending to this series. We've gotten hints of a past involving Nanette and Charles throughout the series and now we get the whole story. I don't want to give it away, but I will say that Nanette has to deal with her attraction to Charles and Charles discovers that there may not always be a 'later' to fix things/situations he's created.

Very original and very sexy!!

I'm kind of disappointed in where this ended up, so lemme splain my rating. Nanette, the oldest Vicknair cousin has been sparring with parish president, Charles Rousell for several years now. For the past 5 books the author has been building an attraction, some UST and a definite conflict between the two of them. Turns out that Nanette gave her virginity to Charles when she was 18 and he never came back. So of course she was mad and heartbroken when he did return 9 years later. Now Charles's role in this whole series has been an antagonist to the Vicknairs - he has spent the last 6 months or so trying to get their house torn down, blocking them from getting funding and making their lives a living hell trying to get their house back in shape. And then he tells Nanette that he wants another chance with her. So I go into this whole book thinking, "Good luck with that buddy, she's got reasons to be pissed." I figured he had to have a damn good reason for his actions.

He doesn't really. Turns out he's been antagonizing Nanette all this time because, since she hates him and he can't find any other way to get close to her, he figured he'd use his opposition to the restoration of their house as a means to interact with her. Sort of an overly extreme version of pulling the pigtails of the girl you love. Only this time, he's ruining her life. What better way to show his love? And his reasons for never coming back and breaking Nanette's heart were pretty lame too I don't buy his reasons for not contacting her and letting her know.

Nanette was also a disappointment. First of all - where is this woman's backbone? Here's a guy who left you high and dry after helping himself to your virginity and then spent 6 months trying to get your home and legacy destroyed and you just forgive him because he's almost dead? And his explanation was shit - how does someone just forgive that? I wanted her to make him pay, to make him feel extra guilty for what he'd done and she didn't. She caved because of hormones. Then she gets all stupid and forgets what happened to Celeste back in the day, and is nearly responsible for his actual death because she can't control her stupid hormones. I'm sorry but sex is no reason to risk someone's life, I don't care how hot it is. Gee, one hot time in the sack or the possibility of a lifetime spent with the person I love? These people just didn't make sense.

This had so much potential. It also had a lot of angst, which I also like. And the sexy times were hot, even though in the back of my mind I kept thinking how stupid they were being. I just wish the build up to this one had been more worth it.
