SMART 2019 - nice colorful pictures that were enjoyed by the Kinder who picked this book "to read". She likes to make up a story, as she looks at the pictures (has a good imagination).

The Magic School Bus Rides the wind

By: Anne Capeci

It started in Ms Frizzle's class one windy day.
We are learning about wind in this class.
Tim is blowing a pinwheel.
Wanda asked "May I fly a kite Ms Frizzle?"
"Yes you may." Ms Frizzle said.
The class went outside to fly Wanda's kite.
"Oh no!" Wanda said "My kite is getting away!"
"Lets go find Wanda's kite." Ms Frizzle said
We got on the bus, fasten our seatbelts, and we are off.
Ms Frizzle pressed a button.
The bus sprouted wings and turned into a high glider.
"Lets go!" Ms Frizzle said
We are flying over the shed.
When we got to the ocean, we saw Wanda's kite
"I knew I shouldn't have stayed home today." Arnold said.
The bus soared closer to the kite.
The wind was blowing the kite harder.
"Can we go faster Ms Frizzle?" Wanda said.
"Yes indeed." said Ms Frizzle.
"Seatbelts everyone." called Ms Frizzle.
"Here we go!" said Ms Frizzle.
The bus went faster and we are catching up to the kite.
"There is Wanda's kite." said Phobie
Ms Frizzle pressed a button and hands came out.
Then, we got Wanda's kite.
"We found Wanda's kite." Everybody said.
The bus head back to the school.
The bus turned back into a regular bus.
Wanda is ready to fly his kite.
"I will not let go." Wanda said
And she let and fly without letting it go.
The wind stopped blowing and my kite went down
"Great job Wanda." Ms Frizzle said
Everybody started laughing

The Magic School Bus Rides the Wind is a Scholastic Level 2 Reader, featuring "vocabulary and sentence length for beginning readers", according to the back cover of the book. It features the characters of the hit television show The Magic School Bus and endeavors to teach young children about wind.

In the story, Ms. Frizzle's class are building kites in class... but Wanda's flies away when they go outside to test them. As Ms. Frizzle takes her kids on a kite rescue mission, Anne Capeci uses illustration, narration, and factoids to teach about the nature of wind, weather balloons, how the wind spreads seeds, and wind energy and turbines.

I'd recommend The Magic School Bus Rides the Wind to parents reading to their toddlers or young children in the early stages of learning to read. It might be particularly entertaining to fans of the Magic School Bus television show, and I'd suggest it as a good opportunity to present the idea of alternative/clean energy to young children.

As all the Magic School Bus this book won't fail in entertainment plus education. The listener-reader will enjoy what they are listening to-reading and won't have a second thought about learning about air and what all it does. This has a story to follow but also has small paragraphs at the bottom of each page telling more details about true simple facts. This book isn't as well written as the other books, (thus the four star versus the five star rating) but then again what more can you write about 'air'? For the subject it was written fun but just blocky at times but still a good 'Spring' book talking about flying kites. Which leads to explaining what other things air does for us.

You simple can't go wrong with Magic School Bus a very fun way of mixing reading with learning Science. And this one incorporates animals simply a good book

This book explores wind and weather to an extent. Like all Magic School Bus books, this would tie great into content or lessons about the topic. In this case, possibly a unit about wind, weather, or kites. I feel that it could be used for a wide range of grades, just adapt conversations and extension activities based on level.
Some tie in activity ideas could be to have a craft where students create a kite like they do in the story. Students could then write about their kites. I also wonder if there is some kind of wind experiment students could try. As with any book in this series, there could be a cool STEAM activity that involved creating a design for the bus on either this trip or one of their own inventing.

I love the Magic School Bus books. Legomeister loved these for years, and now Little Miss is starting to request them.

The Scholastic Readers are nice for bedtime stories because they're shorter, and of course, they're great for early readers. They're more difficult than some easy readers, a little longer with more challenging words. The writing feels choppy; that's a side effect of simplifying it. But I think they do a good job of keeping the story fun and informative. They definitely hold the interest of my Magic School Bus Fans.

This is another fun book in the Magic School Bus Chapter books and Readers series of books. I like that these stories are short and have fewer notes and dialogue than the original stories. Plus, our youngest can help me read them, which is great since she loves them so much. The stories help teach science concepts and this one talks about the wind.

This is a typical magic school bus book, that could be great for a science lesson. The class could discuss kites, weather, wind, etc. I think a great activity would be to have the students make kites and pare it with a little geometry. Then you could find out which shapes fly the best, by actually testing them out. You could even make a graph or table.

This book was part of a popular series for children and used those characters to discuss the effects of wind. Throughout the book, there were illustrations that were to imitate what the characters had written about regarding the wind that were used as teaching tools in the book and at the end, there were two examples of given of how wind is measured.

Level 2 easy reader. In style of non-fiction and fiction titles, this easy reader provides lots of information, at times choatically. Will appeal to those who thirst for knowledge in this format of multiple channels of information.

A bit of a step up from Biscuit, but oh, so much more interesting. My kindergartener read the "story" and I read the bubble captions. He has read this one over and over again. Great for boys.

JT is currently in a Magic School Bus phase. We are currently reading this one about every night or every other night. He is really invested in Wanda getting her kite back!
