SUPERANNO A mini-history of America's Manned Moon Program of the 1960s and 70s. Includes all Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Skylab flights in chronological order. Input from twenty-eight of the astronauts that made these historic flights explaining why they named their spacecraft what they did, and what was behind the design of their mission patches. Foreword by James A. Michener.
Excellent book that gives you a nice history of America's moon program. A helpful touch was the addition of headline pages from various newspapers; you could put each featured space event into its context with other news of the time. The book is dedicated to the crew of the ill-fated Challenger; the group photo is present. Excerpts are included from John Kennedy's speech urging the nation to get to the moon before the end of the decade. The patches designed for each mission are featured. Very good photos of the astronauts are placed throughout the book. It seemed to me that not enough information about Apollo 13 was included. I bought the book at the Smithsonian Museum.
A small but informative book, I originally purchased it at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It chronicles America's manned space missions beginning with Alan Shepard's sub-orbital flight in 1961 and concluding with the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project in 1975. The author provides technical information as well as anecdotes related to each mission.
Very interesting collection of trivia and information about the US space programs. It would be great to see an updated version all the way to the ISS and current missions. With bigger print for the press cuttings!
Good quick reference book for dates, names etc. However it doesn’t bring much new or detailed information. I’ve owned this book since I was a teen so looking back I did enjoy it as a good first look at the different missions and crews.
Very informative book on the early space program. Gives names of astronauts for each mission, achievements made on each mission and tells about each mission patch. Very quick read. Highly recommend for the space enthusiasts.
