Too often, teachers feel ill-equipped to present a compelling, integrated biblical worldview. In Undivided: Developing a Worldview Approach to Biblical Integration, Dr. Martha E. MacCullough presents a biblical integration model that fosters worldview thinking in teachers and students—and can be used even by teachers with no formal biblical training.
Great philosophy of why biblical worldview integration is so important and how to make it happen in our classrooms. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Reads like a grad school textbook and lots of background philosophy before getting to the practical examples. I’d love to see even more examples of this idea at work in real classrooms in different subject areas and grade levels, but this book is definitely a good springboard into thinking about and implementing biblical worldview integration in Christian schools. I love the idea that we don’t have to ignore other worldviews to teach the biblical one - that it makes our instruction stronger to compare and contrast and show the glory of God in every subject we teach.
“Christian school is not a place to indoctrinate to the point of protection from all other worldviews; nor is it a place to separate the “Bible” part from the “curriculum” part. It is a place to study and learn together, to ask and answer questions, to be open and loving, and to guide our students toward informing their worldview by God’s perspective revealed in His Word. We should be praying that God will transform their worldview (and ours, too) so that it will conform to God’s view, that the end goal may be an internalized, biblically formed worldview out of which to think and act to the glory of God.” (pg. 172)
This book is a must-read for Christian educators who desire to intentionally integrate the biblical worldview into curricula. MacCullough provides an overview of curricular integration, identifies the need, explains the opposing worldviews, and provides models and examples for lesson integration. Her writing is clear and practical. I’ll be referring back to this resource often!
This book was a required reading for our staff at a Christian school. I am thankful because I’m not sure I would have chosen to read it on my own.
Undivided does a great job defining and outlining what Biblical Worldview integration looks like. It is clearly explained how to use this approach to enhance a students education regardless of whether you’re at a Christian school or not.
Any person who is serious about educating students can (if they choose) benefit from this book.
Perhaps it's because I've had prior exposure to worldviews and biblical integration, but this book doesn't seem to add much new information to the body of knowledge about biblical worldview integration in education. There are some helpful examples and nice basic overviews of the topics presented, but probably only recommended for those who have never before looked into biblical worldview integration.
Excellent for ALL new teachers and those who have taught for years!
This is an excellent book for ALL teachers! If God has called you to teach , read this book! MacCullough is an excellent example of love, grace, and heart! God has certainly blessed her!
