Definitely a book to dip into, initially to read about the villages you know, and then to read about places you visit. Some interesting facts in it too.
No, I haven't read the whole book. This isn't a coherent, linear, read-from-end-to-end book, but a collection of essays about a selection of English villages. I've read the ones that interest me and enjoyed them. I'll probably dip in again from time to time.
This is really a thick coffee-table book but I read it right through. A lots of research went into it and it was mainly interesting. Very male-oriented with occasional sexism so I've been generous giving it three stars.
