A short beautiful book summarizing the function of the several millennia of art and its state craft. The book suffers a bit from not having a better time line (it has a few pages of summary but the multitude of dynasties and rulers over nearly 30 centuries is overwhelming).
The origin of pyramid building is well handled as are the basics of Egyptian magic.
