Short, but not sweet, Surrendering to the Rake is all about sex and nothing else. Girl meets boy. They have steamy sex. They part for one week. Boy decided he can not live without girl and wants to make a respectable woman out of her. There is no character development, no setting, no realistic attempt to make this a believable story.

Miss Heloise Merrill is on a mission to save her misguided and innocent cousin, Josephine. Heloise is trying to protect Josephine from the notorious rake, Lord Cadwell. Heloise is going to a weekend of debauchery instead of her cousin so that Josephine doesn’t lose her precious maidenhead. Lord Cadwell is – a cad of the vilest kind.

If you are rolling your eyes at this point, I’m with you. This story is amusing in a tongue and cheek manner. At least for me it was. Despite the fact that neither women are innocent nor virginal, Lord Cadwell is no vile innocent despoiler. The premise of this book is a melodramatic comedy of miscommunications and false morale pretensions. At one point, I wanted to tell Heloise, “get off your high horse. Me thinks the lady doth protest too much.” I also wanted to knock off her rosy coloured glasses off so she could see her minx of a cousin Josephine clearly. Josephine is no innocent. She’s more like a spoiled little slut demanding for a thick cock to ride on.

Even if I’m not enamored of the juvenile antics of these young ladies, the story was well written. It flowed well and the description was vivid. I could picture the scenes clearly. The emotions emanating from the characters were strong and amusing. I did feel sorry for Lord Cadwell. He’s essentially tricked into doing the right thing. After a little free taste of what he enjoyed from Heloise, he needed to pay for another taste. Pay he did, in the worst of ways – marriage proposal. The conclusion may seem abrupt, but it is understandable since it is a short story. The historical setting was cute and worked well for this story. I recommend this book to historical romance lovers who enjoy a little bit of kinky sex.

Heloise's cousin plans an assignation with a notorious rake, the Earl of Blythe. Heloise takes her place concerned that her cousin will ruin herself. Earl, as rake's are wont to do decides that one cousin is just as good as the other. The two have very long and detailed relations for a number of pages. In the morning Heloise wakes alone and thinks that is the end of it.

Unbeknowst to her the Earl can't get her out of his mind, even when he's having it away with an opera singer. So seven days after their initial meeting he turns up at her house, and once she agrees to see him, he informs her that he's told her uncle he plans to court her.

He then tells her "I want you Miss Merrill, more than I have ever wanted most other women. If the nature of such feelings should be love, I will not spurn it." Of course the heroine can't resist such a fulsome statement. Heloise then informs him that he had disappointed her, she had hoped to spend 3 nights with him. Also that respectability is boring, then tells him of a secluded part of the garden. Where they retreat to renew their intimate acquaintance. The end.

While it's fairly well written and a pleasant enough encounter, it's not really a romance. There is so much time spent on the sex, that there is no time on actually developing a romance or a relationship between two characters. The guy rocking up because she aparently has some stong catnip in her poonani doesn't really a romance this make. Once they've slaked their lusts, I'm not convinced they would stay together unless there was some kind of unhappy accident.

This was the first book that I have read by the author. I can't wait to read others in this series.

Heloise decided to save her cousin from the attention's of Sebastian, Lord Blythe. So when she climbs about the carriage one dark night, she knows the chances she is taking with her reputation. Her uncle and cousin took her in when her parents died so feels that she owes them this. Once she goes to the Chateau Follet, all she wants to do is to talk with Lord Blythe. So much more happens instead. Sebastian sends an invitation to Chateau Follet to ladies as a sign of their relationship ending not the beginning. That all changes when he encounters Heloise instead of Josephine, he decides to teach her a lesson. Instead of three nights together, they have one. Will Sebastian change his mind about his rules on marriage and courtship or will it just be a fond memory for them both?

I'm a sucker for historical romance, but this book want to ruin it. So cheesy and simplistic. Is there even a plot in the story? What character development? Raised more questions than anything else. Sheer porn, Sorry mate, not a fan.

I'm slowly going through this series and Steamy Regency Romance one (written by the same author under a different name) to compare the stories.

So far they seem almost identical with some scenes changed to add more spice to them.

Submitting to the Rake , and its companion Surrendering to the Rake, are pretty fun and hot stories.

The chemistry between Blythe and Heloise was deliciously hot and sensual. She was very matter of fact about their affair and it was fun to read how he seduced her. Despite her having almost no experienced with sex, she was an equal parter to Sebastian, and they both experienced new and exhilarating emotions during they pretty scorching scenes.

The ending was kind ob abrupt, but it's a novella so it was to be expected.

This is one of those stories that reminds me why I don't read as much "romance" but in reality is such an excuse to write some sex scenes.

In this case I didn't really feel the heat (although the sex was described decently enough) and didn't care for the characters at all. The male lead was super conceited and the female was one of those women I really don't care for - in the beginning was all about saving her cousin who was a loose as they come and in the end was just as free and easy as much as her cousin was. And since this was just a novella the sex was the majority of the story.

Erotica 3 1/2, I bumped it up because it was so much better than the last quicky. It is a quick erotic read with a little crop, BDSM action. Disbelief of the era needs to be had. And he goes to another woman afterward.

Steamy

It's a quick and steamy story. I liked the both main characters but I felt their love was a bit too "insta" love.

Quick, steamy novelette

Heloise Merrill intercepts an invitation for her cousin, Josephine, to the Chateau Follet. It would be three shameless nights of sexual decadence with Sebastian Cadwell, the Earl of Blythe, who is a notorious rake. Heloise needs to prevent the ruin of her cousin, instead goes to the famous castle dubbed Chateau of Debauchery to convince the earl desist on his reckless quest to ruin Josephine. But the arrogant Sebastian wants only to punish Heloise for her impudent intrusion when she arrives at the castle. What he didn’t expect from Heloise was her sweet submission and responsiveness.

I really liked the sexual tension between these two. This story has witty dialogue, and passionate heat. Sebastian meets his match in Heloise and this unnerves him, so he sends her away. But after a week of constant memories of Heloise, he realizes the attraction between them is irresistible. I love when a rake is brought down to his knees by his heroine who is his match in every sense.

Surrendering To The Rake is the steamy version of the Regency erotic story, Submitting To The Rake by Em Brown. It’s still a tantalizing story, and I did not feel the bones of the story was watered down or anything rewritten distracted from the original quality. I recommend this story for fans of historical romance who love their stories with a bit of steam.

I received and reviewed an ARC of this book.

An erotic story set in a regency world - Lord Cadwell, Earl of Blythe invited Josephine to meet him at the Chateau for a three day romp - and eventual dumping. It’s the way he always gets rid of women.
But Heloise has come in place of her cousin in a misguided attempt to save her.
And the rake discovers that he prefers the replacement.
Now he just has to convince her to stay.
***
It’s a bit silly - well, a lot silly. Josephine doesn’t need saving (it’s too late for that). And it takes him seconds to work out Heloise is no innocent. Don’t expect historical accuracy.
And it’s fairly short. Too short for much of anything, really… some light bdsm.
It’s probably 2.5 but I’ll mark it up to 3 stars.

I found this an ok book. Heloise try's to stop a rake seducing her cousin and ends up getting seduced herself. A short story about the Earl of blythe finding a lady with similar tastes as himself.

My first novella by this author. I liked this story better than Book 2, only because it gave you a happy ending and you get to see the hero fall in love a little. Not much of a storyline at all, as it is all about the whips, chains and shock value. I think I prefer my old-fashioned Julia London style HR :)

This is exactly what a person wants in a one-night, easy read with a little bit of spice and a little bit of romance. It was a bit simple, but there's only so much you can pack into a 160-page story. I feel that the author did a good job of keeping the writing of high quality, while keeping the tale itself very straight-forward. I like that the ending has a bit of hope and possibility left in it.

I rate this three stars mostly because I didn't like how Heloise was treated as a fallen woman after her interlude with Sebastian. Her cousin treats her very differently, almost meanly, and that was unpleasant. Heloise's heart was in the right place, wanting to protect her cousin and that was never really given any consideration. Sebastian speaks down to her, her cousin is in no way grateful to her, and her reputation would be destroyed if her actions were made known. On the one hand, that is somewhat true to the culture of the time and place, but on the other hand, it was kind of just cruel. I enjoy spicy romances where people are unapologetically passionate and true to themselves. It felt like Heloise was being punished a great deal of the time. I almost stopped reading as a result of that, honestly. It was only my personal rule of never not finishing a book that let me power through.

I am glad that I powered through, I have to say, because the end of the book was very good. So, overall, three stars for me.

OVERVIEW OF STORY: Trying to save her cousin’s virtue Heloise takes a secret carriage ride to a notorious Chateau. She intends to plead with a Rake who has a propensity for carnal pleasures. The women who agree to meet with him, take the ride to Chateau Follet for 3 days of decadence and debauchery, with no one the wiser. Lord Blythe has grown bored with his female conquests and finds it more difficult to become interested in his guests. Heloise is unaware that it has been her cousin to pursue Lord Blythe, not the other way around. When Heloise confronts him and verbally berates him, he takes her over his knee and spanks her. To the surprise of both, enjoyment is felt on both sides. Surprised that this plan woman who thought so lowly of him could stir him so, Blythe leaves her tied to a bedpost. Heloise covers her arousal when he returns by lashing him once more with her tongue. She decides that since she is no innocent that she might as well get some enjoyment out of being ruined. One night, leaves them both wanting more.

OPINION OF BOOK: This book was a naughty delight to read. I read it in the car while we were out running errands. At times I thought the windows should have steamed up some. Heloise and Blythe were wonderful characters. Definitely worth the indulgence. Do it. You know you wanna.

OPINION OF WRITING: Well written and descriptive, without being vulgar. There wasn’t anything that detracted from the flow of the story.

Very short and enjoyable

Knowing this was a novella helped me not to be mad when it ended so quickly.

The writing was excellent. Only one typo I can think of. The characters seemed well developed for a short read.

The plot was a little far fetched but all was explained to my way of thinking.

Heloise meets a man in her cousins stead for a naughty weekend. She says it’s to save her cousins reputation. At any rate. Naughty things happen and there is the promise of a happy ever after.

All in all it was a quick, satisfying read. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

I received this book for free, in kindle format from BookBub.
I had not read any reviews or inserts for the book, therefore I had no expectations.
This was the first book, in the boxset.

I liked this book very much because the writing style was nice.
It begins with thoughts of the female character. And then switches to the male.
Back and forth, like a volley. It was lovely. Good amount of sexual tension.
Good description of the setting.
It takes you to a different time and place, that a woman could wonder about.
The ending is cliché, but good writing IS good writing.

I would recommend this short read. It may still be available from BookBub.

Surrendering To The Rake is my first book by Georgette Brown, but won't be my last. Ms. Brown has delivered a well-written book. He characters are outstanding. Heloise and Sebastian's story is packed with drama, humor and sizzling hot sex. I enjoyed this book and only wish it was longer. Surrendering To The Rake is book 1 of A Steamy Regency Romance Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I liked Heloise very much, she is just protecting her cousin from the evil Sebastien, the sexy Rake so she tries everything incluiding acepting an invitation in the name of her cousin just so she can change the mind of Sebastien and protect her cousin's virtue but she doesn't know that the rake is so sexy...

Surrendering to the Rake: Sebastian and Heloise

She's the quiet good girl; he's the shameless rake. When they wind up together in a room at a house of ill repute...well, things happen. Liked the verbal sparring between them. Also appreciated the friendship between Heloise and her cousin Josephine.

From what looks like a gothic drama at the beginning, Ms Brown leads us into passion and wickedness before giving us a HEA. I loved the book, a little bit less strong than her books written as Em Brown - but with the same heat.
