This is about Luke taking an Orthodox Jewish family from St. Louis to the far West. It shows that one or both of these creators knew quite a lot about Judaism along with the mannerisms and "quirks" of its highly devoted followers. I know this because I got all of the "inside jokes" (from living so many years as one of my Temple-filled neighborhood's few goyim)!
So this is the only Luke album that may not be for everyone because you either need intermediate knowledge of such things or the interest in learning about them. Because of their strict insularity* and the spotty geographic inhabitation of their orthodox, outsider anglophones tend to be a bit unwilling- but there are plenty of "reformed" Jewish who will find this very funny (I know that from having BEST friends and many roommates who don't practice the extremism).
*One of the very few religions that do not recruit- and even demand the genetics or the marriage to one who is born of "the chosen". Some have begged their way in but I only get about 50% "hello/hi"/nod reciprocation in my own neighborhood. The women and children are essentially trained to not even look my way. They are constantly walking past my house because they go to Temple and homes who host such worship on multiple days of the week here. So yeah, I'm bitter about being ignored on my own street, but I'm no anti-Semite. I understand. Still, I tell the unvarnished truth because "sugarcoating" facilitates ignorance. I'm at least worthy of doing certain things for them during Shabbos that they need done but aren't allowed to do every so often (but they very rarely need such things). Take that last sentence how you want, but I try to be enough part of it all to not feel like I'm on an island in my own neighborhood. Plus, they are limitlessly interesting people to "examine"- if you're not prejudiced, that is!

Το σενάριο δεν δρέπει δάφνες πρωτοτυπίας (εξαίρεση η παρουσία Εβραίων) και συναντάμε πολλά κλισέ.
Το χιούμορ έχει κάποιες καλές στιγμές αλλά σε άλλες περιπτώσεις θα το έλεγα τουλάχιστον... παιδικό.
Tίμια προσπάθεια πάντως, δεν μπορώ να πω.
Δεν είναι απ΄τα πολύ καλά της σειράς αλλά διαβάζεται ευχάριστα.

A Terra Prometida tem uma sinopse tão simples e direta como a de muitos outros álbuns de Lucky Luke. Um amigo do cowboy pede-lhe para escoltar os familiares, acabados de chegar aos EUA até ao seu novo lar. São polacos, religiosos no sentido beato do termo, e ingénuos quanto à cultura do novo país que acabaram de conhecer. A jornada revela-se perigosa e cheia de armadilhas, já que Lucky Luke terá de ajudar os seus novos amigos a enfrentar todas as ameaças representativas do old west, ao qual estes emigrantes não estão habituados.
A partir desta premissa, o álbum desenvolve um périplo hilariante por alguns dos bordões recorrentes da série (como as intervenções de Jolly Jumper, o cavalo de Luke, e a paródia a referências da História dos states) e recupera, à semelhança dos títulos anterios assinados por novos autores, o espírito dos melhores títulos desenhados pelo criador da personagem, Morris.
Muitos afirmam (e com razão) que o período áureo de vida do cowboy se deu no conjunto de álbuns desenhados por Morris e com argumento assinado pelo genial Goscinny. Foi graças a ele que a série ganhou algumas das suas melhores características, como a recriação humorística de personagens lendários da mitologia do Oeste. Os estúpidos irmãos Dalton (que, recordemos, são primos dos originais, que esses sim, eram mesmo maus) e o diabólico Billy the Kid, por exemplo, foram pensados por Goscinny, revitalizando um universo que, nas mãos de Morris, não tinha um caminho definido.
Depois da morte do argumentista, Morris continuou a trabalhar a sua personagem, desta vez com outros parceiros na escrita das histórias. A colaboração com Godcinny foi tão marcante que permanece ainda hoje como uma referência da BD franco-belga, e Morris nunca conseguiu alterar essa situação. Por isso, nos últimos anos da sua carreira notou-se um cansaço criativo relativamente à personagem, refletida em muitas histórias sensaboronas escritas por argumentistas medianos (com a excepção de um número reduzido de títulos mais interessantes, como o Daily Star).
Só com uma nova geração de autores é que a série foi bem recuperada. Voltaram os valores que a tornaram num marco da BD e, em vez de se fazer uma “homenagem” aos melhores álbuns de Luke (ou seja, em vez de uma mera desculpa para obter lucro fácil), tem-seoptado por criar histórias divertidas e originais que devolveram o interesse da série para a contemporaneidade. A Terra Prometida é só mais um exemplo desse sucesso, sucedendo a outros álbuns pós-Morris notáveis, como O Nó ou a Forca e Lucky Luke Contra Pinkerton.
Neste novo álbum regressam as referências da cultura pop e o cruzamento da sátira com alguns aspetos importantes da vida moderna, tudo isto a resultar num manancial de gags subtis e memoráveis. E sem deixar que o humor tome um papel preponderante sonbre o conjunto, A Terra Prometida acaba por ser uma bela aventura, contada de forma exemplar, e um dos títulos mais fascinantes da vida da personagem, antes ou depois da morte do seu criador. E além disso, é uma crítica bem refinada a aspetos da História dos EUA que vale a pena resgatar do tempo – e que nos fazem reflectir sobre os vários acontecimentos turbulentos que marcaram este 2016, que está prestes a terminar.

Sah letztes Wochenende eine dreiteilige Reportage/Doku, in der der Autor dieses Bandes den "Wilden Westen" bereist. Ich bin neugierig geworden, und habe mir diesen Band in der Stadtbibiothek ausgeliehen. Seit Ewigkeiten kein Lucky Luke-Album mehr gelesen!
Hatte meinen Spaß mit dem Culture Clash im Wilden Westen. Chassidische Juden aus Osteuropa jenseits des Missisippi, die entweder für Mormonen oder Amische gehalten werden. Lucky Luke muss die Familie seines Kumpels Jack Loser durch gefährliches Gebiet führen. Banditen, die sie für reich halten, Cree auf Kriegsfuß, die eine besondere Überraschung bereithalten. Lucky Luke, der sich auf die strengen Regeln seiner Schutzbefohlenen einlassen muss, und es mit einer überfürsorglichen jiddischen Mame auseinandersetzen muss (bester Gag, er alpträumt: "Ich bin deine Mutter, Luke!"), hat mächtig zu tun. Ja, es gibt viele Anspielungen auf Juden in Amerika und Klischees satt. Ich hatte meinen Spaß, es war kurzweilig.

Nos, valójában nem volt rossz, igaz nem is a legjobb sztorik egyike. Illetve vegyük figyelembe, hogy itt is egy nép illetve vallási hagyományok bizonyos szintű kifigurázása történik, ami egyeseknek természetesen sértő lehet. Zsidók a vadnyugaton? Nos, erről a témáról nem tudok semmit, de a Kelet-Európai zsidók kivándorlása Amerikába a 19. század 2. felében természetesen megtörtént. Még el is mondja a különbséget a askenázi és a szefárd zsidóság között is, néhány héber kifejezést és nem is beszélve a szent könyvek felsorolásáról stb., tehát valamilyen szinten még tanulhatunk is belőle róluk. A sztori maga egyszerű, van egy eredetileg zsidó cowboy, akinek a családját kell végigkísérni Luke-nak Amerikán. A szokásos bonyodalmak itt is megjelennek: élősködő banditák, az utazókat átverni igyekvő gonosztevők, indián támadások stb. Luke viszont megküzd ezekkel a nehézségekkel, valamint a zsidó mama figyelmével is, és azért elég vicces jelenetek kerekednek ki belőle. Összességében nem üti meg a legviccesebb Daltonos sztorik szintjént, de az átlagosnál mindenképp jobb kötet! A szemfülesek még néhány Star Wars utalással is találkozhatnak :)

Guardando gado, Lucky Luke fax um favor a um amigo: escoltar a sua família de Saint Louis até ao Montana. Só que ele não conta um certo pormenor. É que eles são judeus, algo ainda mais exótico no Oeste Selvagem, ao ponto de serem confundidos com os Amish ou os Mormon!
"A Terra Prometida" é uma homenagem aos judeus no velho Oeste, que a principio eram vistos como espécie exótica (mais uma!) para depois se tornarem em gente importante para o desenvolvimento da América. Como por exemplo, Charles Lévi-Strauss, a pessoa que inventou as calças modernas de ganga.
Mais uma aventura divertida, cheia de clichés, para passar a tarde. Só senti a falta dos Dalton...

A pretty good read, it feels like the Comic tries to educate us about Jewish Culture, but obviously not whitout cracking Jokes. Everything stays friendly, and it looks like many of this Tropes are actually appearing in more devoted Members. The Family is no monolith eighter, and everyone is a Person besides beeing a Jewish Stereotype.
I think it tried to do something, and succeeded. It tried to make a comedy about the Topic Jews, tried to be informative, but also cracking Jokes about Tropes found in this Culture, whitout beeing offensive.
Im not Jewish, but I dont think anyone will feels unconfortable whit this Issue.
The Art is pretty decent as well.

Edelleen ainoa hyvä osa näistä Lucky Luken uusista seikkailuista on Mies joka ampui Lucky Luken. Kaikki muut ovat jossain huonon ja ihan jees välillä. Achdé piirtää periaatteessa hyvin ja aika morrismaisesti, mutta onhan se hiukan jäykkää ja sielutonta esikuvaan verrattuna. Suurimmat ongelmat ovat kuitenkin tarinankuljetuksessa, jossa tulee aidosti ikävä Goscinnyä. Toki vertailu kahteen suureen mestariin on ehkä hiukan epäreilua, mutta jotain näistä puuttuu ja sen mukana oikeastaan lähes kaikki.

Notre héros solitaire doit accompagner des gens pour les aider à traverser l’Ouest. Comme à chaque album, ils font croiser des bandits idiots et incapables, la cavalerie et les Indiens.

Lucky Luken uusissa seikkailuissa ei ole ollut hirvittävästi hurraamista. Suurimpana kompastuskivenä sarjassa ovat olleet heikkolaatuiset käsikirjoitukset, mutta juutalaisseurueen matkaa halki preerian seuraava "Luvattu maa" (Egmont, 2017) saa puhallettua vanhaa Morris & Goscinny -henkeä puolikuolleeseen sarjaan, mistä kiitos ensimmäistä kertaa asialla olevalle nimimerkki Julille eli Julien Berjeaulle. Mazel tov!
