my aunt gave this to me for xmas like two years ago and tbh idk why i procrastinated reading it but as someone who speaks fluent italian i can confirm that some of the translations that they had were wrong at worst and slightly off at best. they also highlighted certain vocab words to help the readers, but so many of the highlighted words were ones that didn't need clarifying. either way, i speak the language, and the stories were entertaining enough. thanks zia!
Relatively interesting short stories for adult readers, ramping up the difficulty as you progress on to the following stories. Each story is divided up in an Italian only version, with some difficult word showing up and then a version of the same story where you can read Italian/English in parallel. A big flaw is that the "difficult words" actually chooses pretty simple words at many points, leaving the actual difficult ones not translated (pro-tip: read it on the Kindle). When you're done with the book you actually get some confidence that you're able to read in Italian, that is until you start reading an actual piece in Italian...
Reading short stories gave me vocabulary that would not necessarily be introduced in typical lessons. I would have liked to have the audio version read a tad slower, as well as normal cadence, though I still appreciated the normal speed which forced me to concentrate and think faster.
I used this to practice my listening skills and compare my speech to what sounds like a native speaker. Lots of tools out there but this is one of the most useful.
