As the son of an Irish mobster, Connor O’Neil spent his boyhood hiding from the horrors of his own home. His one reprieve was a girl he knew only as Evelyn, but even she was taken away. As a man, Connor is determined to stay away from his father’s business. With Sean, participation is not a request, but a demand. The truth is, Connor might be more like the evil he’s trying to hide away from than he would like to admit. And he’s already spent years trying to cover the scars left over from the pain. A chance encounter puts the lost girl from his past back on his path, and he no longer has a choice but to face the darkness he’s been ignoring for years. Evelyn. Sasha. Slave. She doesn’t really know who she is anymore. Or maybe she does, and she doesn’t want to tell. She isn’t the same as she once was—now a thing to be kept and maintained, shuffled from owner to owner until it was her time to go. She only became Connor’s because he took her when he knew she wasn’t his to take. Except she isn’t Connor’s at all … And he can’t keep her hidden forever. ~Inflict is a Standalone Romance with graphic depictions of violence, sexual scenes, dark elements and a HEA. It is not recommended for those under the age of 18.

5 "I LOVED CONNOR" STARS!!

Oddly enough, I fell in love with Connor within the first few pages. He came across as such a sweet and precocious little boy and my heart ached for the tragedy that was his life because of his father. Now that's a man I'd gladly kill with my bare hands. Figuratively of course. I know he's not real although men like him DO exist.

Who would you become if you were raised at the hands of a monster? Would the sights you've seen, the things you've heard, or the abuse you felt warp your mind? Connor continued to strive for some sort of balance. He knew he wasn't "normal", not after surviving the horror show that was his father, but he held on to the fact that evil hadn't completely tainted his veins.

Connor was happy once. At the age of six, for one whole year, he found happiness with a fellow six year old named Evelyn. But then she disappeared. Fast forward roughly 20 years, let the author guide you through some gruesome and suspicious events, and strangely enough Connor and Evelyn are reunited. And that connection, that happiness they shared so long ago, that peace that existed within the other, was found again. To ensure their safety and their future together, these two had to face some dire circumstances, and honestly it ain't pretty, but it was most definitely worth it.

Bethany-Kris took a step out of the box and in my opinion it paid off extremely well. INFLICT was raw, it was dirty, and it seemed all too real. It touched on some hot button issues and the author didn't pull any punches. It was authentic and it was traumatic, but it was done in order to shape Connor's character. As I said, I loved him. LOVED HIM!! He was the son of an Irish Mob boss, preferred a blade to a gun (and boy did he know how to work a blade), had a sexy as feck brogue, had no problem killing, and lived by a code of ethics. Was he a good guy? Not in the literal sense of what is "good", but he was most assuredly a hero in this story.

Is it just me or did this story seem to have an open sort of ending? The author has labeled INFLICT as a standalone but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing more of this boyo named Connor.

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Triggers: Yes.

A brooding Irishman! A childhood love! The heart and soul of this story was centered around two people who never should've crossed paths with one another again. What they gained from each other was a great depth of peace and belonging neither experienced before.

Connor O'Neil was first introduced in Thin Lines. Oh, yes! And I couldn't wait to dive into his story! In Inflict, the reader followed O'Neil from childhood, skipping the young adult stage, and straight to the twenty-six year-old hitman he was for the O'Neil organization. This story exclusively featured O'Neil's POV with a slow build-up that led to a very satisfying ending.

Some of the issues I had with this book didn't pertain to the author's writing style at all--they were strictly my own pet peeves. I loved that this was a stand-alone book and the epilogue was stunning! The action scenes were on point and I loved how graphic they were! This was by far one of the more darker books that I've read from this author and I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next.

Dark. Gritty. Emotional.

This one is pretty gritty. This author doesn’t usually pull punches, but this one was a little grittier in my opinion because things that were focused on more than they usually are with her books.

Still a good read.

Not gonna lie - this one blew my mind and at times gave me the heebie jeebies but I couldn't put it down. I'm a total book wuss and dark reads and me don't really get along, add in a honking huge trigger or two and I want to take off running for the hills whilst screaming like a banshee. And the verdict? I bloody LOVED it.

Soooo, why 5 stars? Because this is BK at her best. I absolutely adore everything this woman writes, and Inflict is up there with the rest of them. It had me guessing and coming up wrong, second guessing and still coming up wrong and sitting stunned as they layers were peeled away.

It's not often the whole book is in the H's point of view, it was here and it so worked. BK nailed it. Absolutely fan-freaking-tastic.

The story really is intense. There are many cruel and viscous parts to life in the O'Neil Irish Mob Organization. We meet Connor O'Neil when he is 5 yrs old. His father is Sean O'Neil and is brother to the Boss. Sean is a mean, cruel, ruthless man and Connor gets to experience first hand all his traits. The only light in Connor's life is his friend Evelyn until one day when she vanishes. Fast forward to Connor being 27 yrs old and the story begins. He's not really part of the mob but as his father is now the Boss, he has to do things.....Connor has a dark side and he doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. His father taught him well. Connor uses knives and when he's asked to get rid of things, his knives are always his weapons of choice.

But when Connor is sent on a job, he is unexpectedly caught off guard when he sees Evelyn and she is a slave. He rescues her and takes her home. How? Why? So many questions. Connor has never forgot Evelyn and seeing her now almost feels like a sign. But Evelyn isn't that innocent girl of long ago.....her life has been anything but innocent, she has lead the life of a slave(Sasha) since she vanished all those years ago.

Connor and Evelyn were two very broken souls. Both having lived lives of pain and suffering and evil. Both had ways of escaping, Connor learned to be a tattoo artist and Evelyn continued sketching even through all her adversities. Connor saved Evelyn while she in turned began to save him. But keeping Evelyn came at a price. There were twist and turns that created major hurdles for Connor and his father's organization. There was a lot of action and brutality.

This book was not your ordinary mafia story. I missed the family component that is usually present in mafia stories. Instead, Connor and his dad had a hate relationship and that hate and darkness surrounded the whole story. But finding Evelyn created a purpose and drive in Connor.....to protect Evelyn at all cost and in that protection a love grew. But with evil forces all around, loving Evelyn came at a cost to both of them.

Like I said before, the book is dark, brutal and has some twists and turns but there is an epilogue that I totally felt brought the book full circle.

Bethany-Kris you have done it again. You have delivered another amazing book to us!

This is Connor and Evelyn's story and their story starts from a very young age. They met at the age of 6 for the very first time and Connor was mesmerized by Evelyn's emerald eyes the moment he looked into them. Their time together is short but a solid bond was forged.

Twenty years later Connor O'Neil lives his days to avoid his father Sean who is head of the Irish Mob a man who has never had a Soul for as long as Connor can remember. Memories of the horrible child hood etched forever in his mind, body and soul.

When Sean calls on Connor to tie up some loose ends he never suspects to see those emerald eyes staring at him in that moment of chaos. Evelyn has been through hell for the past 20 years and Connor wants to protect her.

In eachother they find what they need, Evelyn finds her freedom and Connor finds the light in his very very dark life. They have found their love in the seedy world they come from, but all that is thrown for a spin when someone else wants to steal Connor's light.

He won't lose Evelyn again he will kill anyone in cold blood to keep her safe.

This story is told in Connor's POV and I absolutely loved it.

Bethany, you're just too good to me! Another fantastic mafia romance. You know how to mess with my heart and this one really did. I love dark reads and this was darker than your other novels.

So, I don't know why I didn't make the connection, Connor O’Neil was a character in Thin Lines. I was totally intrigued by the O'Neil organization in that story. Once my brain made the connection, I was even more thrilled to get that Connor's story and get a glimpse into the Irish Mob. And Connor and Evelyn's story was raw and real.

This was a slow build but very engaging, action-packed, dark and the epilogue was perfection! I highly recommend this stellar standalone mafia romance.

I went in with extremely high hopes after seeing a glimpse of Connor (yrs older) in Thin Lines/ Thin Lives. I wanted to read his back story so bad. And I was not disappointed.
 photo 19807572_zpsnen0naat.gif

His childhood was the stuff of nightmares. I wanted to strangle and mutilate his father, Sean, from about 5 pages in. Ughh, that man was a freaking MONSTER. Connor's one friend was Evelyn, who disappears into thin air.
Jump forward into adulthood and Connor is just trying to stay off his father's radar. His father's main trade is skin and Connor wants no part in it. This aspect was raw and gritty, mostly due to the fact that you know this actually happens all the time. It's sad how someone can seemingly disappear, when the horror is really just beginning for them.
Through a set of circumstances, Connor and Evelyn meet again... Only she's been through hell. She's been a slave, passed around from owner to owner. Hearing the things that she'd been through made you want to go out and castrate a few men.
Connor and Evelyn were made for each other. Their crazy called to one another. Connor didn't treat Evelyn like some injured thing that would break at any moment and it gave Evelyn the strength she needed to come out of her shell and accept her freedom. Connor had a lot going on too that only Evelyn could understand and relate to. Where others judged him, she welcomed who he was, faults and all, and asked him to let her see his darkness. And boy was it dark. Connor had a real craziness to him, but I loved it. He let the monster out for all the right reasons.

And their sex... OMG. It was hard, it was hot, it was everything you want in a sex scene. They both had filthy mouths and I loved it.
 photo 16388966_zpsvzfb4hsl.gif

There was lots of action, mob activity, and mystery (as to what the hell was going on with Sean's psycho self).
The epilogue was great and tied things up very nicely. Great read.

Jajajaja.

“Te veo exactamente como eres. Te hice ver exactamente como eres. Pero nunca pensé que te gustaría. No olvides que te dije que no te gustaría.”

Inflict takes place in a small town inhabited by the Irish Mob. The story begins in the household of Sean O’Neil. He is a man who lords over others using threats and violence. He lives alone with his young son Connor and a succession of maids. Sean’s line of business is not obvious at first but it is evidently far from legal. There are no flashbacks in this story with little being left to the imagination.

The narration of the story is through Connor O’Neil as he shares his horrific childhood. Sweet moments scattered throughout the story alleviate the weight of the drama. One such moment was when he stumbled upon another neighbourhood child by the name of Evelyn. She has everything Connor doesn’t, but they find joy in the simple activities of childhood. Vastly different to Connor’s house where he has little recollection of his own mother. It is abundantly clear early on that love doesn’t exist beyond the threshold of the O’Neil’s house. Connor quickly learns not to become attached to the housemaids his father keeps.

Connor and Evelyn’s childhood years are a combination of childhood play and survival. He exudes a maturity way beyond his 7 years. At the same time, it was refreshing to see he was able to recognise beauty when it came his way. Through Evelyn and her father, he experienced second hand what family life should be, observing the love and nurturing he lacked, through the simple and natural gestures between a father and daughter. Evelyn often shared her drawings with Connor who appreciated her artistic skills and set about to try his hand at creating pictures too.

Just when your heart has been twisted and tortured by the graphic violence within the O’Neil household, the plot leaps forward 20 years. The dark beginning contained slivers of light illuminating the goodness that couldn’t be stolen from Connor. Far from a Sunday picnic, when the timeline moves from a 7-year-old's story to a 27-year-old's one, the content was a lot easier to palate. As an adult, Connor no longer has to live under the same roof as his father, which enables the story to take on significantly lighter moments.

While separated by distance, his father still maintains a controlling hand over his life. Connor circumvents this by doing just enough to keep his father off his back. Electing to be his father’s eyes, reporting back sufficient details to have Sean not doubt or question his son’s loyalty. Then a chance meeting places Connor in contact with a woman who gives him reason to step up and defy his father.

The present while dark was nowhere as bleak as the beginning. His sparring skills picked up in his youth make him a formidable opponent in the ring. Able to expel his anger through boxing and when he’s not in the ring, he’s hanging out at his tattoo shop. Now with a woman who he willingly let get under his skin, he has another reason to stay out of the reach of Sean’s grasp.

Inflict is a suspenseful story that contained a beautiful element of hope, an amazing feat considering the dark origins the story originates from. This will be for readers who appreciate a dark suspenseful story. It includes extreme violence, especially in the telling of the early years. While Inflict was a rough journey to begin with, the destination is totally worth the hard to read moments. This is a story of good existing in the most unexpected crevices of life, leaving you with a beautiful hope of humanity prevailing.

Connor and Evelyn meet as children, and form a sweet friendship. Though both are raised in Irish mob families, their experiences couldn't be more different. Evelyn's father is the boss, but is loving, and sweet to his family. In contrast Conner knows his father as Sean, an exacting menace without a soul. They all live in the same neighborhood until a strange night that changes the destiny of everyone involved.

The Good:
1. An Irish Mob romance was an interesting change of pace, especially for St. Patrick's Day.

2. The storyline was a darker offering from the author. I'm used to worlds full of grit, but the underbelly was an interesting new view.

3. Standalone, no chaser.

The Bad:
1. I sometimes felt their was a mental prophylactic keeping me removed from the characters. I could feel them, but not enough.

Final Thoughts:
This was well written, but not my favorite from this author. She is a go-to mob writer for me, so that is not damning. The fact it was a standalone earned an extra star. I need more of these.

Spoilers:

I don't know how I feel about this book. Some things I really liked, some things not so much.

The first few chapters were dark, disturbing and quite a bit boring. I don't mind dark reads, but reading this in the POV of a five/six year old boy was a bit too much for me. I kept going because I wanted to know how all would transpire and I didn't want to have another DNF book in my collection.

Then the story seeds up and finally the Hero and Heroine meet again. There isn't much action happening until the end.

I got the impression, that the Hero was two different characters. He was changing after meeting the Heroine again. Growing some balls, getting the courage to question his cruel father's doings. I liked him better towards the end. But I had some misgivings, especially his dealings in the skin trade. He could've and should've put a stop to it sooner. That's just my personal preference.

The heroine was a sweet and strong woman. She survived all this abuse trough the years, seemingly unharmed. I didn't know what to expect of her, going trough this nightmare. I just didn't think she would adapt so soon or so good. It all went smooth. Perhaps a little too smooth?

Their relationship grows slow, which was good. He was sweet, caring and protective. They got to know each other again and he gave her time to adjust and live her life. He wasn't dominant and gave her all her freedom back. There were no ow/om drama at all. Since finding her again, he didn't even look at another woman. Even in their 2 month physical separation. I loved that. Even when she hurt him (which wasn't her intention) he stayed faithful to her, didn't take revenge on her with ow. A Hero who knows what/who he wants and stays on this path.

I liked the ending. Them being together, raising their daughter and him bringing home a baby boy. It was sweet and tragic at once. I could feel their love for each other and their little family.

3 1/2 stars Not bad but this is a darker romance. I had some problems with a few things in the beginning of this book ****spoiler****animal cruelty and human trafficking **** end spoilers**** but i did like the story in this book. I accidentally started reading this thinking it was another author and the beginning hooked me the character building had me not wanting to put this down.

I voluntarily accepted an advance reader copy for my honest review.

This has got to be Bethany's rawest book! And I loved it! Connor is a disturbed man who very young finds out that his life is not normal. He had more tough love lessons than actually hugs and it carries over into adulthood. It doesn't help that your born into the Irish Mob and your father is a psychopath who gets his jollies off of abusing young women. Sick!
Evelyn is a sweet, innocent child who befriends Connor. For a year they play and depend on the naive companionship they need to escape from their home life. One day, mysteriously, Evelyn disappears. To keep her memory active in Connor, he begins to take up her favorite activity, art.
Fast forward to an older Connor, who is heartless and numb. He is given a task by his father and he finds Evelyn in the process. But she isn't the same girl and she goes by Sasha.
This book was dark and by dark I mean really uncomfortable at times. Connor and Evelyn are products of one mans evil. This in turn corrupts two innocent souls because of the actions of one. Evelyn is probably the strongest female character that Bethany has written. She endures so much but is courageous in her actions. Connor is a bastard and enjoys inflicting harm to himself to escape his pain...he is at peace with it. He has a tender spot for Evelyn and is very vulnerable when it comes to her. Maybe the only thing that makes him vulnerable. Art is true catalyst for them. It is also their therapy for the darkest inside them. Together, they can't be without each other and heal each other in the process.
I'm glad that this was told in Connor's perspective and I remember him from another story, Callisto and Emma! I love when characters have a connection to other novels. This story was amazing and bravo Bethany for telling it!

Gut-wrenchingly Beautiful

This is a standalone by Bethany-Kris, it was absolutely amazing. True to her style, the authenticity of this story is almost scary.

Inflict takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotion. It tells the story of " Nature vs Nurture". Can you be something better than what you were raised to be. Connor O’Neil was raised by his father Sean O'Neil, who is not only evil but the head of the Irish Mob. We follow Connor through his tumultuous upbringing, early in his childhood he meets Evelyn. A little girl who shows him that there can be light and kindness in the world. As he grows up he loses contact with Evelyn. As he grows up, his father teaches him to be just as cruel as he is. Though Connor finds way to rebel in his own way as an adult, he can never quite get out from under the thumb of his evil father. His father sends him on an assignment to kill a well known Russian Mobster, and during the assignment he finds his long lost friend Evelyn.

Evelyn is not the girl he remembers, she's been beaten, sexually assaulted, and her sanity is hanging by a thin thread. Seeing the complete devastation in her eyes, he saves her. The road to rehabilitate her is rough, but Connor isn't giving up. Although her captor is dead, the evil that is Sean O'Neil is out there waiting. He wants Evelyn for his own nefarious reasons and Connor will do anything to stop him from taking his "Light".

Bethany-Kris is an amazing author, the authenticity of this book is scary, but in a good way. It was AMAZING!!! BUY THIS BOOK!!!
