Bad Motherpuckers #2

Sexy Motherpucker

Rate this book
When the family dog trots in with my diaphragm in its mouth—in front of my date, his parents, and his adorable little girl—you would think I’d hit rock bottom.

WRONG.

Let’s back this up a sec…

Brendan Daniels is the sexiest man alive. The captain of the Badger’s NHL team is also clever, kind, funny, and was my good friend…until we cruised out of the friend zone one weekend with a red-hot fling. Come Monday morning, I wanted to keep riding the Big O train to happy town, but Brendan wanted someone who was “stepmom” material.

A.K.A, not me, apparently.

The problem? I’m crazy in love with him and his daughter. So when he asks me to be his pretend girlfriend for a long weekend with his former in-laws, I say yes. We’re still friends, after all, and friends don’t let friends fake it alone.

***

Laura Collins is the last woman I should be thinking about taking in the back seat of my car, in the woods behind my in-laws’ house, or in a hotel room where we’re sharing one very small, very squeaky bed.

I need a steady, stable influence for my daughter, not a fling with this too wild, too young, too impulsive red head. So what if she’s beautiful and intense and passionate and has the biggest heart I’ve ever known?

I don’t want to fall in love. I really don’t. The whole “pretend girlfriend” thing was supposed to solve my problems, buy me a little more time.

But when it comes to Laura?

Hell, maybe I’m just not cut out for faking it.

➦What do you do when you walk in on your boyfriend wearing your thong?

➦Ok, first of all, don't panic. Calmly explain to him that it's just not your jam and collect all your underwear. Then proceed to the nearest bonfire.

➦If, by some chance, while burning your intimates, you happen to meet a sexy man who volunteers to burn his own boxers out of solidarity - just go with it.

➦In all honesty, he's probably trying to get into your pants. Again, just go with it. God know you need it.

➦Anywhooooo. If you like romance with whole bunch of humor in it then you'll probably find this novel thoroughly entertaining! It has a hot single dad hockey player for a hero and a fake relationship trope. I really enjoyed this story, I laughed and I cried at the end, some scenes were too stinkin' cute.

This is only my second book by Lili Valente but I am officially declaring her a must-read! Her writing is fantastic and will have you entertained the whole time you're reading her words. Sexy Motherpucker was a great read and I really enjoyed these characters. The story was very easy to just sit down and enjoy, it was romantic, just a little sexy at times, and it was just really fun to read.

Spoilers ahead

I'm a sucker for a romance with kids involved so I got into this one eagerly, unfortunately it didn't work for ME

Laura is the PR person for the team, though she and Brendan have worked together for a while nothing happened until he stumbled across her burning her underwear after finding her boyfriend at the time wearing it. After some drinks and convo they end up spending days together. At the end when Laura is ready for more Brendan pulls an awkward exit. Picking up the pieces Laura agrees to be Friends

Months pass until Brendan needs a pretend girlfriend to appease his in laws that he's providing suitable female company for his daughter. Laura agrees to be his pretend girlfriend.

A few things didn't work for me
Brendan says the reason he left Laura after their time together was because he thought she and Justin had feelings for each other and he didn't want to be second best. One would think that'd be like closing the barn door after the horse had escaped??! He'd already slept with her! How hard would it have been to have a fricken convo to figure out where her feelings for Justin lay?

The reconciliation only occurs because he needs help for his daughter's sake. Now I can't fault a parent for doing anything for the good of the child but really his sudden feelings for Laura smacked of convenience

The incident with the skiing where Chloe was almost injured and Laura was actually injured was another scene that caused me done trouble. I understood him needing to be with his daughter to settle her down after her serious scare but why couldn't he trade places with the grandparents after? Or even carry her with him as he went to check on Laura? There's got to be a balance between him being a good parent and him being a good boyfriend to make a single parent romance work.

I'm not a fan of dead exes, and his seemed to be a saint

I thought Laura would be a badass ball buster but she was actually one shade away from residing in the dreaded doormat territory. It was quite clear she cared for him more than he did her.

I honestly didn't blame her for pulling away at his proposal. They'd only been dating a month and she'd had a hard week babysitting his child for a full week. It's unfair of him to expect her to take to babysitting for such a long period like a duck to water. I agree with Libby that it wasn't cool. Shouldn't he have tried a 24 or even 48 hour period first before going off to play hockey assuming that just because Laura had babysat for him before that she'd be super stepmom and handle an entire week like a pro? Jeez!

I honestly skimmed from that part on, I didn't feel the love from this H as I did from Justin. Thankfully he wasn't a manwhore because he hadn't been with anyone since his wife died. Laura had a boyfriend who was the crossdresser and they broke up just before their initial hookup. Laura actually came across as more experienced, especially in recent years.

All in all even the humor didn't save this one for me but I'm still willing to try again so on to the next!

This audio was cute too. Sexy but cute!!

In Sexy Motherpucker, you will meet Brendan and Laura. You sort of meet them in the first book of this series as well. Now they were cute but they had so much drama. Whether it was someone assuming the other liked someone else or ya know..baggage

Brendan was adorable but he had a kid. So he did some stuff that was simple adorable with her. However, I was not a huge fan of leaving that said child with laura for a week. I get that she would babysit her from time to time but a week is completely different. Also a nightmare for people who aren’t parents!!

Then there laura. I didn’t know what to think about her in the beginning. All I know is that in true first book she was very protective over her sister. Which was endearing but I also had no idea who she liked. She was a mystery and definitely grew on me in this book.

Overall, it was a good and cute audio. I’m glad that I randomly found this series on my romance
Package and can’t wait to dive into the next book!!

This is book two in the “bad motherpuckers” hockey series. It is the story of Brendan captain of the badgers nhl team and Laura the team's PR specialist. Brendan is a single dad and needs a fake girlfriend to prove to his inlaws he can give his 7-year-old daughter a mother influence. This is where Laura comes in. She agrees to the charade but knows this is not the best idea. Laura has been burned before by Brendan….when they shared a hot sex-filled weekend 4 months ago...which ended with him...wanting to be friends...ugg. Now she will be sharing a longs car ride, weekend as a fake couple...oh and a bed….

My thoughts:

This book was ok. Both characters annoyed me. I thought Brendan was an ass...and used people. I will say I did think he was a great “girl dad”. Laura was also frustrating. She was so feisty in the 1st book...I thought her story would be full of sass...but no!! She is weak and insecure. The other thing is that turned me off....there is a VERY STRANGE, long and unsexy conversation about her vagina. Guys it is seriously weird!

For more book fun check out my blog @: http://beachbumbookworm.com/
I’m not sure if I will continue in the series. I have read three books in this series...the first book was good...the 2 since have been so-so. Might eventually give it one more chance, but after a long break.

DNF @ 90%... Marthafocker!!! I can't believe I couldn't finish this. I pushed thru the bland story hoping it would change into something more interesting. But the h is a dumb twat! She's been in love with Brendan for the longest time & now that she finally has him, she sabotages it with stupid, ridiculous reasons!!!! News flash, when you get involved with someone who has a kid, you should know what that entails. Especially if things get intense & love comes into play. WTF did she think would be the end result? OMG! I can't! I just can't! She's a moron & should carry a caution sign around her neck cuz she's a nutbag!

DNF 65%

I have a weird relationship with this author: some of her books I liked (and rated 4 or 5 stars) just as many I disliked (and DNF with 2 stars rating).

That was a case of DNF here again with this second book of The Motherpucker Series. The book isn’t THAT bad, it’s just boring, plain and simple.

Plus, the little girl doesn’t sound like a 7 years old at all and the menace of taking her with them by the former in-laws (because the H wasn’t quick enough to replace their dead daughter) sounded very implausible to me.

But what put the final nail in the coffin was the H & the h debating about hairy or bared pus*y and the h saying that bared girly parts down there are “looking like two hugging new born baby mole rats“. Yeah. That’s the conclusion she came to when she checked one of her friends down there because said friend though she had an ugly pussy. Seriously? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

That’s it for me!

I've had a little trouble articulating the thoughts in my head for this review and getting them transferred to the page. Don't get me wrong: I absolutely and unequivocally loved Brendan and Laura's story, but searching for new and creative ways to express once again what a spectacular tale Lili Valente has penned is increasingly challenging. Sexy Motherpucker delivers a story of two souls profoundly attracted to the other like a moth to a flame, one struggling with rejection, and the other failing to recognize the perfect match for his life, his family and his heart.

Brendan and Laura have always been able to banter with one another as friends. But after they take their connection to a physical level over a few summer nights, Laura believes their relationship has changed. But when Brendan suddenly sprints away returning his heart back to its protective cocoon, he leaves Laura dejected and trying to accept that they’ll never be more than friends. But Laura finds herself hoping to be able to break through the protective walls Brendan has built around his heart. And despite how he tries, Brendan can’t get his mind off those magical nights and the beautiful woman he spent tangled up with, their limbs twisted in hot sexual passion. Though their feelings for each other do finally burgeon, will Brendan and Laura be able to let go of the boundaries each of their hearts has created and find their way to building a life together and sharing their love with one another forever?

Brendan and Laura were an absolutely perfect match, and the hot and sexy connection they shared virtually shot sparks from my iPad. Sexy Motherpucker brought forth such a myriad of emotions from me including moments of nail biting as well as hysterically laugh out loud moments leaving me with tears in my eyes. In addition to the amazingly sexy and steamy romance, Ms. Valente has included one delightful element to Sexy Motherpucker which was Brendan's daughter, Chloe. She added such a fun and entertaining twist to this fantastic and sexy romance which definitely drew me in even deeper, if that’s even possible. Once again I proclaim that Lili Valente remains the queen of hot and sexy romance winning me over with her characters every single time, and Sexy Motherpucker is no exception. I now am left anxiously waiting to get my hands on her next novel to meet another new couple and read a story I know I am going to fall in love with.

-The sitch. Laura, the sister to the heroine of the first book, has been friends with Brendan for a while now, as they both work for the Badgers, one as captain of the team, and Laura in PR. Brendan’s wife unexpectedly dies (off page, and well before the series begins) and he is left with raising his daughter on his own. He’s concerned about beginning any relationship, for obvious and understandable reasons, but he has a passionate encounter with Laura that doesn’t go any further than that one time. A bit of time passes and he realizes he needs to make his in-laws believe that he is capable of moving on and taking care of his daughter, and he turns to Laura for help. And that’s when the real fun begins, and you guess it, romance happens.

-Was concerned at first. As the second book in the Bad Motherpuckers series begins, I’m not gonna lie. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the setup because second chance romances, especially after such a traumatic event like a spousal death, are a delicate business. You want to believe that the reasons that it didn’t work out, or why your hero and heroine didn’t work through whatever issues they had is legit and reasonable. Mostly, I was scared I was going to think Brendan was a butthead. *blinks* But then, Ms. Valente chose to continue with the dual first person POV, Brendan explained, I was all on board with this romance.

-Lagged a wee bit in the middle. If there was anything to quibble about, is there is a bit of time between Brendan and Laura reconnecting and when things blow up that felt almost too perfect, too settled. It wasn’t bad, and had its fun moments, but I would have loved to see Ms. Valente actually delve into those family scenes, since they’re so integral to this romance. I will say that by the end, the way it all resolves itself and the big scene at the end still made me happy-sigh and I enjoyed myself as far as the romance. The hockey, on the other hand...

-Hockey is still just an accent, not fully integrated. It’s a sprinkle on top of this cupcake. It’s fine but if you love alot of authentic hockey scenes in your hockey romance, there’s not alot here. If you’re fine with it being a sprinkle, rock on.

description
I’m really digging Ms. Valente’s series and Laura and Brendan’s sweet romance, and while a bit uneven, the humor and sexy times far outweigh my concerns with pacing. I’d recommend it for casual hockey romance fans. I love the teaser for the next book, and I can’t wait to check that out.

Sexy Motherpucker is the second book in the Bad Motherpuckers series by one of my favorite authors. I know when I open a Book by Lili Valente, I will be in for a ride. It could be a sexy and light ride, a filthy twisted dark ride or something in between. This series has the perfect blend of sexy, fun, and filthy talk. If you read Hot as Puck then you might remember the cranky but sexy single dad Libby's older sister Lauren. I knew something was brewing between these two...

Brendan and Laura had one wild weekend together full of orgasms, talks, and long walks on the beach. Then it was over. Brendan walked away. He wasn't ready for what he knew Laura wanted and needed. A relationship. It wasn't just him he had to think about. He had to think about his daughter Chloe too. He lost his wife three years ago and since then it's only been him and Chloe. After his weekend with Laura he was scared. Scared of what could be. Also scared of what could happen if it didn't work out. So they went back to being friends. Awkward friends but still friends. And then he asks her for a huge favor. One that could change everything. To be his fake girlfriend. For one weekend. But he also has other plans...

Laura was already halfway in love with the cranky, sexy, father of her favorite little girl when he asked for this ridiculous favor. She knew it was going to be weird. But they are friends and she would do anything for him and Chloe. Even if he breaks her heart all over again. It's been four months since the first time around but it's still fresh especially when they see each other almost daily and she looks into Chloe's eyes. Ones like her daddy's. If she is going to get through this weekend, then she has to give a performance of a lifetime. To act like a perfect girlfriend while also acting like she is over him. It's only a few nights, how hard can it be? Very, very difficult especially when Brendan has plans of torturing her with his sexiness, sweetness, and mixed signals. Can they get on the same page before it's too late?

I love Brendan, Laura, and Chloe! Brendan and Laura might have some obstacles to conquer but one thing is for sure...they both love Chloe like crazy! She is not a girl to be in the background. She is full of energy, sassiness, and road-trip bingo. She is one of my favorite little ones. And Brendan is one amazing single dad to her. They have fun but he will put the hammer down when he needs to. Anyway...back to this whole love thing. Brendan and Lauren's chemistry is both beautiful and beyond hot. Their banter is fun. And the connection between all three of them is magical. Even if Brendan has a big butt (Inside the book humor).

Overall...Lili scored another goal with this one! It's beautiful, hot as hell, and funny as fuck. It's the perfect blend really. A wonderful addition to the series. I can't wait for the next book.

Quotes:

There it is again—that loving, devoted daddy side of Brendan that makes my ovaries explode. I am helpless against it.

“Because I believe in pursuing excellence in all things,” I say, biting my lip as his grip on my wrists tightens. “Or at least all the things that matter.”

“I’m not ready to be this close to your parents.”

Sexy Motherpucker was a really entertaining romantic comedy that was sweet and laugh out loud hilarious! It was both a friends to lovers and second chance love story, with a generous portion of hockey thrown in for good measure. The characters were realistic and there was a perfect balance between the swoons, steam, and angst. This is book 2 in the Bad Motherpuckers series and some characters from book 1 do appear, but this can definitely be read as a stand alone.

One of my favorite moments from the book was when Laura's diaphragm became a victim of the dog and is then given a proper burial in the yard. I absolutely loved Brendan's in-laws and how open and loving they were in this situation. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to lose your child, yet remain supportive and accepting of your son in law and his future relationships. The secondary characters in this book were amazing and I enjoyed them just as much as the hero and heroine. The balance between seriousness and humor was wonderful. When Laura and Brendan lock themselves in the closet inside Laura's childhood room I would never have guessed the next sequence of events! It went from incredibly sexy to mortifying in the most humiliating and crazy way! Laura's parents were freaking awesome!

description

The epilogue was fulfilling and left me with a huge grin on my face. One thing I really loved was how big of a role Chloe played throughout the entire book. It was honest and realistic and made this single dad romance so heartfelt. Definitely enjoyed this one and if you have the chance to listen to the audiobook I recommend it as well!

This was super cute and really funny. Although I really enjoyed this one, I don't think that I'll be diving in to the test of the series. I'm just ready to sink into something deeper and this series is fun and sexy, so I may return to it on a trip or vacation.

The good: I liked the fake dating + mutual pining tropes. The MMC does something early on which he regrets, so is in pursuit mode, and I’m always here for that.

The not-so-good: the story felt a bit uneven, and both characters had monologues/diary entries that felt more juvenile than their late 20s/early 30s ages. Also, I’m usually ambivalent about the single parent romance, but this went into “how hard is to parent” territory and I tuned out.

I’ll keep reading other books in this series (as I really liked the first book), but this one didn’t hit for me.

This was the first book written by Lili Valente that I've read and I've really liked her writing style and the nice plot with low drama and some hot sex scenes.
I'm so curious to read the other books in the series.

This story has everything I lately like into a book, friends to lovers + single parent of an amazing kid is a perfect recipe to make me swoon with every turn of page.
Brendan and Laura journey was not simple, both of them screwed up at some point but I've particularly appreciated how they are not scared to open their hearts to love even if they have a lot to lose.

DNF at 30%. Skimmed to see if it got better towards the back half. *rolls eyes*

Nope, this book isn't for me. Laura, the heroine, seemed so cool to me in the first book. She seemed spunky, feisty, and confident --- my kind of snarky heroine with a soft side hidden to her. But NO!!! As I was reading this, I discovered that she was hiding a very insecure girl who lets herself be used because she's so gone over the hero, Brendan that she'll do anything for him. No, thank you.

You might like this book, but I didn't.

CoaRJ review by: Candice Marie

***I was provided with an ARC in an exchange for an honest review***

This was only my second book read by this Author, and she's fast becoming an addition to my automatic "one-click" list! I really enjoyed the glimpses of sassy Laura and broody Brendan that were given in Libby and Justin's story, and very intrigued to find out more about them. So it was with great anticipation that I began to read this book! Laura and Brendan weren't exactly what I expected, and I actually really enjoyed that! It was a pleasant surprise to find that Laura was a lot more relatable, wonderfully quirky, and vulnerable than I initially thought, and the relationship between her and Brendan's young daughter Chloe was quite endearing! As the story progressed, I understood and empathized with the reasons for Brendan's grumpiness, my heart ached for him, and it was positively heartwarming to read of him finally thawing out and letting someone else in beneath that seemingly stern exterior. But I also loved the fact that his daughter always came first, and every move, every decision he made no matter how he felt about Laura was always with Chloe in mind first! There's just something to be said about a hot single Dad who can not only be romantic but a top notch Father as well! I occasionally very much enjoy a good sports romance, and so far Lili Valente has delivered what I've been looking for each time! This book was a quick, light and sexy read with little angst, extreme romance..(a bit OTT with the sweetness for my personal taste but still enjoyable) and lots of laugh out loud moments! If you're in the mood for something to leave you smiling and wishing for a sticky sweet HEA of your own well then, this is for you!

4.5 SMOOCHES!

Every time I’ve picked up a book by Lili Valente, I’ve enjoyed myself. This was the third book of hers that I’ve read—the second one of this series—and it left me wanting more. Her writing is smart and witty, the romances she pens are sweet and sexy. I love the hockey, I love sports romances, and I can’t wait to dive back into this series.

This was definitely a sports romcom, but even amidst all of the heat and the humor, Ms. Valente managed to deliver a few blows to the feels here as well. This couple had a lot to overcome between Brendan’s grief and Laura’s commitment issues. But Valente’s words brought to life a couple I cheered for right from the start and gave voice to a love story that was genuine, hard-earned and sexy.

Lili Valente’s Sexy Motherpucker gets 4.5 smooches from me!

This is such a funny pucking book! I listened to this book on Audible and it was so much fun listening to this funny, witty and steamy romance ❤️🔥
Brendan Daniels is the captain of the Badgers Hockey team NHL. He has an adorable young daughter and takes his fatherly duties seriously. But, the beginning of this book had me cracking up 😂 because Laura Collins is the Badgers PR. She is burning her panties and lingerie for reasons you have to read/listen to this book. She has been in attracted to Brendan and will agree to be his pretend girlfriend. This storyline is funny, serious and romantic.
This book is in a series but can be read as a standalone. I loved this book and recommend it.

Laura Collins gets her chance at a HEA with the guy she's been crushing on, Brendan Daniels. What starts out as a favour turns into something permanent and the story follows the ebb and flow of their relationship from dealing with in-laws, cranky seven year old (who was wwwwwaaaaaaayyyyyyy advanced! Her texting skills were crazy good), parenting, love and fears. All in all an enjoyable read.

I hate that he kissed me and reminded me how intense the chemistry is between us. And I love that he kissed me, giving me another chance to memorize how electric it feels to be in his arms.

I'm sitting here watching the cursor on my screen flash, trying to figure out what to say. How to explain to you all how much I LOVED Sexy Motherpucker. How unexpected it was. How happy it made me. How quickly and easily it stole my heart.

How good it was.

No, wait. Not good—great. I said when I read and reviewed Hot as Puck recently that I had a new favorite by Lili Valente. I never expected to have it be replaced so quickly.

But then came Brendan and Laura.

This book was perfect. A blend of two of my favorite tropes—friends-to-lovers and second chance romance—it had a depth and feeling which was touching; it was respectful and emotional, while still being funny and sexy and light. It was an absolute blast to read—and completely unputdownable—and the only thing that could have made it better was if, somehow, it just kept going. Forever.

Seriously, that's how much I loved Brendan and Laura and Chloe. There's just something about an attentive, devoted single dad that's so undeniably attractive, and when you add to that a smart, kind woman and funny, relatable kid, you have magic. (And the makings of an ovary explosion).

More specifically, you have Sexy Motherpucker. I cannot recommend this book, or this series, or hell, this author highly enough. I'm addicted to all three, and thankfully, with the release of Puck Aholic coming in the not too distant future, I'm sure to get my fix.

If I can wait that long, that is.

You reminded me how incredible it feels to love someone full-out, no holding back.

This is the second installment in this series and it's Brendan's story. I loved the single dad dynamic of this story. Brendan was so conflicted regarding Laura originally. She is his good friend and he's attracted to her. However, having lost his wife and taking care of his daughter, he is wary of any relationship.
Laura was a sweetheart, I loved her from the first book and she was equally endearing in this one. Brendan plays with her heart but she still remains his friend until he needs a fake fiancé.
Their chemistry is hot and sizzling, the banter is cute and funny. The author did not glamorize the characters, very honest and real.
This series is coming to be really good. Highly recommended for all sport romance lovers.

As soon as I learned that the next book in this series featuring Libbi’s (from book one in this series) sister, Laura and Brendan, I wanted to read it immediately especially since their story was kind of teased in book one, or more accurately I guessed that the guy Laura was talking about to Libbi was Brendan. They just had me really intrigued especially with the fact that he was a single dad. Plus I could tell that Laura was really hurt by Brendan’s rejection and that it was hard to be around him but not his adorable daughter Chloe, which just screamed drama, friction, and angst. So it was really interesting storyline.

Something that was really interesting and what I was expecting was us going back in time in the prologue to see how Laura and Brendan had gotten together and had their little weekend fling, which was hot and steamy, and showed off the amount of chemistry that they truly had. At the same time their little weekend was very much about closeness and connection between them. And it was very poignant to both of them. This was the first time that Brendan had been with someone since his wife died three years previous. Plus they weren’t strangers they were friends before this and for the first time saw each other in a new light. It opened up Laura’s eyes and made her want more with Brendan while Brendan rejected the feelings that Laura had and the attempt that she wanted to have at a relationship, which utterly devastated Laura and hurt her more than she could ever know especially when she discovered she was in love with him. This setup the book perfectly, and I really appreciated it that I could see for myself and feel the level of pain that poor Laura had and made me understand what she was going through when the story started. I was glad prologue was there so I could understand the story more.

In the present, the friction and angst between Laura and Brendan really hadn’t lessen after their weekend affair four months ago. She avoided Brendan as much as possibly though it was hard because of Chloe, who she absolutely adored and cared for and spent lots of time with despite the fact it hurt to be around her dad. While in Brendan’s case, he regretted what happened between them, not the actual affair but how he rejected her and didn’t give their relationship a shot when he had the chance, and I could really tell that he was pained by it. And I could see that he wanted a relationship with her, but she kept shutting him out. So there were not in the best place, but it created lots of good angst between them. I loved that.

To complicate matters, Brendan’s in-laws were questioning Brendan’s ability to be a full time parent with his erratic schedule as a professional hockey player, and they believed that Brendan needed to move on with his life and provide a female influence on Chloe. Brendan was really feeling the pressure from them and feared that they would take away Chloe so the solution that he came up with was to pretend he was in a relationship with Laura, He knew he was asking a lot of Laura but he knew that he couldn’t risk them taking his little girl.

He had no idea what he was asking of her especially being that she was in love with him, but she agreed for Chloe knowing that Brendan was an awesome father. No matter how much it hurt her, but she was determined to let it show and keep her feelings to herself. It was hard. So hard. And I could feel so much angst and pain coming off of her, but she was willing to do what was right for the man she loved.

Then the meat of the book really began, and it was so good. Brendan and Laura’s cat and mouse game really began. It was so entertaining. So engaging, and I absolutely loved that. Both of them had misconceptions about what they other was feeling or wanting out of the relationship between them. Laura believed he was only using her for Chloe and wanted a friends with benefits type of relationship only while Brendan believed that Chloe wanted nothing more aside from friendship from him. So they were both battling both each other and their feelings for one another. And it was an entertaining ride to go on with them.
There was lots of tension sexual tension between them. Their chemistry was off the charts. And just the kisses between them were beyond scorching that it was easy to see that they would be hot between the sheets. That was teased throughout the book, and when they finally did give into their passion for each other, it just exploded. Their compatibility was just spot on, but there was more behind it because of the emotional component to it.

I will say I was a little bit surprise of how quickly they slept together in the present time because I thought it would be drawn out a little more to up the anticipation level to the story. Also I just wanted to see them fight their feelings for each other a bit more and just ease into a relationship instead just going hog wild with one another. I understand this was after four months of all that build up and stuff, but I think I would have enjoyed a bit more before they slept together again. I think it would have made the story more interesting.

I think to if they delayed their gratification a bit more than there would have been more focus on the emotional stuff and I would have gotten more feels. For example, when Laura hurt her knee in the story, and he was worried sick about her and called her and was basically acting like her boyfriend while Laura believed he was only acting concerned because he was grateful because she got hurt because she was helping Chloe. That little moment just really pinched my heart and made me feel so bad for her because she was so badly trying not to read too much into it even though she wanted to. She didn’t want to be disappointed in the end. And I think that if that was amplified more than that would have just upped the edge of the book as they struggled to get their happily ever after. It was touched upon with the scene where he wanted to romance her, and Laura believing he was doing that for his in-laws and not because he actually wanted to romance her, which was a bit heartbreaking and again gave me the feels. I just wanted more of that type of struggle.

I think the struggle that was in there that put an obstacle between them, even though totally plausible, I think it was unnecessary. I was bored with that part of the story and just thought it was dragging out the story too much. I get she had concerns about being Chloe’s stepmom and Brendan asked her to marry him way too soon, but again it wasn’t the most interesting part of the story. For me that was where the story lost its flair. If story needed to be more dragged out, I wish they wold have focused more on the angst between them than anything else.

Chloe was absolutely adorable, and I loved her. She was so sweet and a little stinker too. I loved seeing her interactions with both Laura and Brendan. She had a great relationship with both of them. She added so much to the story, and I was so glad that she was in there. She added to the romance, not detracting from it, and that was what made it really good.

Overall I did enjoy this book. There were a few hiccups along the way that I didn’t enjoy near the end because I just thought it was prolonging the story more than necessary, instead of having them get together on later on in the book and have more of the angst there. I think if that happened then I would have gotten more feels from the story. Just the pacing was a little off for me. I really liked the story overall though as well as the romance between Laura and Brendan. The passion was there. The chemistry was good. The bond between them was good. The emotions were there between them. The love was there both romantic and familial for Chloe. And I did really like the cat and mouse game they played. That was very interesting to me. I was glad that I read it. I enjoyed some parts more than others, but for the most part it was good,
