However, everything changed when she met Ivo, a gorgeous doctor with irresistible charm. He was just supposed to be another hookup, but he quickly became so much more.
It started as a one night stand which was followed by another, and another. The more nights they spent together, the more Brandy felt that life had given her something to live for.

Ysa Arcangel is the author of the Moments to Remember Series, Underneath It All and Love at First Sit. She has also written an urban fantasy novella, “Nexus Series Book 1: Anathema”. She is based in Manila and is a loving partner to a very talented chef. She is also a fan of tattoos, a lover of giant dogs, and an enthusiast of extreme sports.
In real life, she is a Spanish speaking GDS Consultant and mother to three amazing kids. Her alter ego is an attention seeking and a hopeless romantic author who melts over a tattooed hero with 6-pack abs. Her alter ego is extrovert and a social media junkie. And just like in real life a coffee addict.
I don't really know what I expected, but it wasn't this. I think the writing is pretty poor, I expected more around Alzheimers which didn't happen and then with what happened within the first 28 pages I just knew it wasn't for me.
this book is set before underneath it all - about Agata's parents and how they met and fell in love.
From Brandy's Pov, it chronicles her life as she starts suffering from the early onset of alzhmiers and her outlook on life.
In Agata's story you see a little of why the kids are a little frustrated that their dad has spent more effort on their mom, than on them. In this story, you see the love that Ivo has for Brandy and you understand why he did what he did. a lovely story of love understanding the true meaning of "in sickness and in health"
Moments of Joy by Ysa Arcangel a fabulous four-star read. This is the first book in the Moments to remember series, this looks to be a great series, it is starting with a breath-taking book, it deals with medical issues that you don’t normally find in a romance story. But they make the story, they show that love can overcome anything, when and if you allow it to. This story shows the love of friendship and how it can lead and develop into something so special and strong, it shows how Alzheimer’s can affects people’s lives, not just the person with the diagnosis but the people who surround them, this is so well written you can see the love and heartache people face in doing every day things. I especially love the way it’s written, we see a duel point of view and the story unfolds in a beautiful manner, it reveals itself page by page. Sucking you in and giving you details a bit at a time so you are constantly on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens with each character and wanting to know more about how their story will unfold. Brandy Curtis has always has always played it safe, she likes a predictable life, she knows all about her family history of Alzheimer’s and its lead her to just have short relationships that don’t mean anything to her, just a random hook-up, at least that’s what she used to like. It starts as a holiday romance, a one night affair that is all it can be despite how hard it is to let go. Ivo is the other half of that one night affair, he’s a hot doctor but he is also so much more. When we get his side of the story it truly becomes a story that you can’t put down. I don’t want to reveal to much about the story, but you need it in your life. Book two can’t come quickly enough.
Moments of Time (Moments to Remember Book 1) by Ysa Arcangel is a story about falling in love. This story will make you laugh, cry and various other emotions. You will enjoy how the author has created strong characters that pop right off the page and into your heart. This story will pull you in from the first word. You will also enjoy the connection that these characters have with each other and that connection is what makes the story really flow. You will find yourself relating to these characters and well as how they will make you feel what they are. Find out what happens with this story as this couple goes on a journey of finding out how strong true love can be.
Brandy Curtis is a woman whose family has a history of Alzheimer's. She guards her heart and stays away from commitments because of this. Then she meets him and everything seems to have changed for her. What happens when he was just suppose to be another hookup? When he quickly becomes more, how will she handle it? When they start spending time together and more time together, will she finally let her guard down? Will it be that something that will give her the hope that life is worth living for? What will happen when her mind starts failing her? Will this stop her from finding her happiness?
Ivo is a gorgeous doctor with irresistible charm. One day he meets her at a wedding and they continue to spend time together after that. There bond grows stronger and stronger every day they spend together. He knows the signs for Alzheimer's and when he starts to see some in her, he makes it his mission to help her. He has not had the best track record when it comes to relationships but she is different for him. Will he be able to break down her walls she has built up?
Brandy and Ivo's relationship is one of finding friendship then finding love. Their story is one of love and they are faced with many different difficult situations. Will they survive the odds? Will her memory faulting put a damper on their relationship? Will they take a chance on their relationship? These two characters together are strong and they are even stronger on their own. Brandy goes through many emotions and I give her great credit for holding it together for the most part. She wants to be independent and not let this disease win but I think that it is hard for her. Ivo also gets a lot of credit because he just wants to help her and does everything he can. I know how hard it is to live with Alzheimer's, these characters are amazing on that hand. Find out what happens with these two as they find each other and how strong love can be.
This is my first story by Ysa Arcangle. I can't wait to see what she does with this series next. Ysa is a mother of three and a Spanish speaking GDS Consultant. Her alter ego is a romantic that melts over a tattooed, 6-pack abs. She has some insecurities but her alter ego is social and extrovert. They are both coffee addicts. You will enjoy how she has created a story that will keep you engaged until the end. These characters will make you fall in love with them. This is a fast paced story that will keep you reading until the end. I highly suggest this story as I know you will want to see what happens to this couple as much as I did.
Moments of Joy is the first book in the Moments to Remember series by Ysa Arcangel. It is set around Brandy, Ivo and their family and friends.
Brandy is in Italy for her brother's wedding when she meets Ivo. Brandy has had a tough time and faces even tougher times in the future. She has a family history of Alzheimer's disease, and doesn't want to burden anyone with the heartache of caring for someone with the disease, or for them to have to witness the love of their lives waste away right in front of them, and becoming a stranger. Her heart breaks for what she may endure, but she also hardens her heart and flatly refuses to enter into relationships. One night stands are the only options for guys who want to spend time with her.
Brandy and Ivo connected instantly upon meeting, but both convinced each other that hooking up was a one time deal. But you know what they say about good intentions?? Brandy was not going to give up her independence and become a liability, but once home, she could not move on from the almost unforgettable moments she spent in the loving arms of Ivo.
The story flowed along with many bumps, hurdles and emotional times. I was kept guessing throughout their story. The chemistry between Ivo and Brandy almost burnt through my kindle, and their passion had it’s own heartbeat, almost like a living, breathing being. It was so real. Moments of joy gave me many joyous moments, but it also gave me incredibly sad and painful moments. my heart was heavy for what may lay ahead for Brandy. it really made me think, with me stopping often to just reflect and try to imagine how incredibly difficult and devastating this dreadful disease is to cope and live with.
Brandy’s strength and determination won my heart. She had a fantastic and witty sense of humour. Ivo, I believe, is the guy perfectly matched to Brandy. He will love her and be by her side in good times and bad, in sickness and in health, as long as they both shall live.
Ysa Arcangel and her unique style was a mystery to me at the beginning of Moments of Joy. It is a mystery no longer. I think this author is one of supreme talent and one I will continue to read and get lost in their stories. I just cannot stop thinking about Brandy and Ivo and all the battles they may face together, and for an author to leave such a lasting impression, it is a certainty that the books they write in the future will be instantly bought the moment they are released.
5 stars for Moments of Joy and Ya Arcangel. What is in store for Brandy and Ivo is the next big question I crave the answers to, and diving into the second book in this series, Moments of Pain, is the next thing on my must do list. I am not sure what to expect, but I am prepared to have my mind and heart blown away yet again.
Moments of Joy (Moments to Remember Book 1) By: Ysa Arcangel 5 out of 5 stars
The story Moments of Joy (Moments to Remember Book 1) by Ysa Arcangel is a medical/romance book. This is the story of Brandy and Ivo. They both meet when Brandy is attending her brother’s wedding. She doesn’t do commitments because of her family’s history of Alzheimer’s. They have an agreement that they will see each other and then it is over when Brandy goes back home. However, both of them never expect that they would begin to fall for each other and as they spend more time together their feelings only strengthen. Reality then begins to take hold as Brandy’s memories start to falter. Will this new development crush any hope of a relationship blossoming? Will Brandy take a chance at being happy with Ivo?
This story is told from the POV of both Ivo and Brandy. When reading both of their perspectives you find that they both are in love with each other however have different views of the progression of Brandy’s illness. She doesn’t see how much the disease is interfering with her life as Ivo does. Brandy is such a wonderful character and I felt so much empathy for her and her situation. She is trying to just live her life as independently as possible however the progression of her forgetfulness makes this a struggle. Her meeting Ivo seems to be a major highlight in her life and she begins to let him past all the defenses she has put up against relationships. Brandy is realistic about her illness and what is going to happen. She doesn’t want to be a burden to anyone and doesn’t want to fall in love just to forget all about them. Will Brandy take a chance with Ivo?
Ivo is a doctor and knows about the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s. Once he finds out that Brandy is starting to exhibit signs he makes it his mission to help her. This does lead to a misunderstanding between Brandy and Ivo. Ivo’s past relationships have either ended badly or in tragedy. Brandy is someone that has captured his heart. He is saddened by the progression of her illness and is always looking for some kind of hope for her. This book is a love story that starts and then runs into almost insurmountable odds. It also is a book of true love and how when you find that special someone you will do anything for them. This is the first book I have read by the author and I look forward to reading the next book in this series as well as other books she has written. She weaves a story that had me from the very beginning and not able to put the book down until the end. This book does have adult language and situations. It would be for those 18 years of age or older.
I chose to read A Moment of Joy, the first book in the Moments to Remember series by YSA Archangel because Alzheimer’s Disease is the exact condition my Grandmother suffers. I enjoy reading titles I can relate to. I like to learn , as well as am a hopeless romantic. That is what I was hoping this story would turn out to be, and it did not disappoint. Brandy is a 27 year old columnist residing in Boston. She is the only girl, as well as is the youngest, from a family of 4. Her mother is in an institution at the youngish age of 55 because of Alzheimer’s Disease. She is in this institution because in a moment of forgetfulness, she unknowingly murdered her husband thinking she was being raped, and her defence was easily argued. Alzheimer’s is thought to be a generic disease passed from generation to generation, and Brandy is happy to live her life going from one lover to the next without commitment, to prevent anyone from ever having to be with someone who would eventually forget who they are. She does not know for sure that she suffers from it, however her family suspects she does, and so does she. Her brothers are protective of her, and take care of her the best they can. Brandy takes a trip to Venora, Italy for her brothers wedding. This is where she meets Iva.Her intentions are to have a one night stand, however when a work related problem arises on her second day there, she turns to him and his sister for help. This leads them to a romantic arrangement that is to last for the 2 week duration of her trip. Only, Iva is a psychologist, and decides he wants to further explore what may be Alzheimer’s Disease in Brandy. Over the course of the 2 weeks, Brandy begins to care for Iva in a way she has never cared for a man before, and naturally, like in all romance novels, she is distressed and reluctant to carry on with him. On her second to last day there, she discovers Iva is keeping a log of her behaviours. This pretty much ends her arrangement. Brandy shows an immense amount of inner strength when she leaves Italy to return home to Boston, heartbroken and even more fearful for her health. Weeks pass, when she unexpectedly runs into Iva in the hallway of her apartment in Boston. They picked up where they left off, and Iva moves in with her. She falls more in love, and so does he, as her condition deteriorates. We see and feel the pain of both Iva and Brandy as her condition progesses. This story left me wanting more. It is written in a way that made me unable to put it down. Within the first chapters I laughed and cried. What could have been a few days read, I completed in a few short hours! It is extremely well written. You will learn, and you will laugh. I absolutely recommend to all who may be curious, and I cannot wait to read the second book of this series!
“I will always find you Brandy, always.” There are several story lines going on in this fast read. The book starts off following Ivo and his children, Agata and Mikael. They are in a recovery room at the hospital and Ivo is just learning that he has been in a coma for six weeks. Something about the situation sparks Ivo to share the story of a very special person with his kids. “I asked Mikael to get my journals from my office. I wrote my last entry and recorded everything I could remember. What better way to reveal to them what their mother and I went through, other than by reading our journals. I had to let them know the truth.” Once he hands off the journals to the children, the narrative shifts to that of Brandy. “They belong to someone who played the biggest and most important part in our lives.” Brandy is a journalist and from a big family. The journal starts out with Brandy getting ready to attend the wedding for her brother Carl and his fiancé it Italy. While Brandy is there she wants to visit Romeo and Juliet’s secretaries for her own research for work as well as her interest in the story line. It is there that she meets the charming Romeo of the writers group, Ivo. The attraction is instant and Brandy does agree to have fun with Ivo, non-committed fun that is, for as long as she is in the country. “I’m not going to promise anything. Remember the arrangement? It’s only for as long as I’m here and so are you. But the moment you leave or I leave, it’s over.” Brandy has her reasons for not wanting to get attached and they become more and more clearer as the journals progress. DEAR JOURNAL~ SOMETHING STRANGE DEFINITELY HAPPENEND TO ME. I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGH THAT OUR NIGHTS OF PLEASURE WOULD TURN INTO SOMETHING I FEARED WOULD HAPPEN. I KNEW HOW MUCH THIS HEART WANTS TO LOVE AGAIN, BUT I HAVE A ROBBER IN MY HEAD STEALING MY MEMORY. WHY MUST I INDULDGE MYSELF INTO SOMETHING THAT I WOULD FORGET EVENTUALLY? WHY SHOULD I DRAG SOMEONE INTO THIS MISERABLE LIFE WITH ME? WHEN MY MIND FINALLY QUITS REMEMBERING, MY BROTHERS WOULD SEND ME TO THE CENTER, AND I’D BE WITH MOM AND GRAN. THAT SIMPLE. NO ONE HAD TO SUFFER. I DIDN’T WANT TO BE A BURDEN TO ANYONE. I COULDN’T BE SELFISH. I DIDN’T WAT TO BE SELFISH, BUT I WANTED TO BE HAPPY. I MISSED BEING HAPPY. I MISSED IVO. It turns out that there is more to this story and this book leaves the reader with quite the cliffhanger. I am anxious to see more of what is to come with the realistically Romeo and Juliet.
Moments of Joy: Moments to Remember,Book 1 By Ysa Arcangel 5/5 Stars
Moments of Joy is the first book in the Moments to Remember series, by Ysa Arcangel. I'm not even sure to begin with this review. This book has deeply touched me!! I haven't read any books by Ysa Arcangel before. But let me tell you, I'm forever a fan now!!! The way she writes, makes you feel connected to the characters. Like you know them personally,You feel absolutely everything thing are going through!! I love books like that! Which is probably why I couldn't put this book down. Once I started it, I had to finish! I had to know ,what's going to happen, how is it going to end? And let me just add, the ending wasn't a disappointment at all!!! This is a gut wrenching, love story about Ivo and Brandy. It also touches with the issue with Alzheimer's disease. It's an awful disease that doesn't just affect one person, it affects the whole entire family. You must read this book, to see what happens with these love birds! Brandy Curtis knows pain. Seeing her mother battle the terrible disease, Alzheimer's. Is every kid’s worst nightmare!! She is strong and fiercely independent. But she is scared… scared what the future will hold for her. The person Brandy grew up knowing and loving, is no longer that same person. She is now, just a small shell of a person. Nothing like she was in the past. All she has now is her brothers ,Gin,Ken and Carl. ( Their father was a bartender, hence he named his kids after alcohol. Which I find hilarious!! ) Since Brandy’s future is so uncertain…she plays safe. She doesn't do any kind of commitment whatsoever. Until vacationing in Italy and meets Ivo,The sexy, generous doctor, with irresistible charm and charisma. It was supposed to be just a hook up, a one night stand type of deal. Until it wasn't… One night turned into two and so on… The more time they spend together, the more Brandy thinks about the future. She is scared, so scared. Will she let Ivo in, even though the future is so dark and scary?? Or will she run and never look back?? Will Brandy be able to actually have moments of Joy with Ivo, even though the odds are against her?? Please give this book a chance, it is sooo good! I can't even put into words how wonderful this book is!! Excellent job, Ysa!!!

Brandy’s mother quite often thinks that Brandy is her mother and asks her where her daughter Brandy is. Brandy knows that at any time this disease will be affecting her life and the lives of her loved ones.
Since she knows what her life is going to end up like Brandy has decided that she will only be having one night stands. Her reasoning is she can’t be the cause of someone’s heartbreak due to this disease. At the age of twenty-seven Brandy is already in the initial stages of Alzheimer’s Disease and is already forgetting trivial things and at times she gets lost on the way home from work finding herself in unfamiliar territory. After all that is what you do for someone you love, right? Also, will Brandy break down the walls she has built and let Ivo into her life?
Moments of Joy is Book 1 in the Moments to Remember Series by Ysa Arcangel. Moments of Joy is a story of true love through sickness and health. We meet Brandy who is an advice columnist who is heading to Italy to attend her brother’s wedding. Brandyn will not commit to any real relationship due to her family’s history with the horrible disease of Alzheimer's. Brandy does not want to put anyone through with what her family went through with her mother.
Brandy meets Ivo, a very handsome doctor in Italy. She told Ivo she does not do committment. So when she leaves Italy it is definitely over. But Brandy and Ivo never imagined that they would fall for each other. How could it not happen with the time they were spending with each other.
Brandy started having memory issues. Ivo noticed what was happening with Brandy but did not let know what his plans were. Will she allow herself to be loved even knowing what will happen? Will she allow herself to be happy with a loving and caring man?
Moments of Joy is told from the point of view of both Brandy and Ivo. It was nice as the reader to be able to see the two different perspectives that they both shared of how they fell in love. Brandy truly is a character that you feel for knowing what is in store for her. Ivo is very perceptive and changed Brandy’s life. Brandy may finally let her defenses down.
Ysa Arcangel does a wonderful job describing the relationship between Brandy and Ivo. I really liked that we saw their relationship from both sides. She gets deep into the characters and describes how hard it is to deal with Alzheimer's. Not only how it affects the person with this horrible disease but how it affects loved ones as well. I am looking forward to reading more on Brandy and Ivo in Ms. Arcangel’s next book Moments of Pain which comes out next month.
Wow this is probably one of the most hardest emotionally wise book that I have read. Ysa has written a beautiful heart wrenching story of love that truly stands the test of and the meaning of “in love an in sickness”. Moments of Joy is the first book in the Moments to Remember series which brings together Brandy Curtis and Ivo Ferrero.
Brandy has lived with a history of Alzheimer’s affecting the women in her family and has always played it safe when it comes to relationships. She has always had hookups, no strings attached and has been truly afraid to live her life with any real emotional bonding. If only she could open herself up to more but she can’t because of this horrible disease that is lurking in the background threatening to take her away. The fear is robbing her of a fulfilling life.
What starts as a holiday fling, a one night stand with a hot and extremely sexy doctor could turn into something more. Ivo Ferrero has never meet anyone like the beautiful woman who wandered onto his life and one night is not enough for him. As hard as she is trying to push him away, he pushes back and the feelings between the two is growing stronger and stronger. She is it for him if only he could break down her walls.
This story will make you laugh and definitely cry. It shows that love can overcome many things if you are willing to open yourself up to more. It also give you a look at how Alzheimer’s affects people’s lives. I like the way we saw the story through both points of view and the beautiful way things developed. This is one powerful story that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish and makes you want to take the characters into your arms and take it all away.
Moments Of Joy is part one of a series of books about Brandy. Brandy is the only girl in her family and her mother has Alzheimer's. There is a high probability that she will develop this disease too so she makes a pact with herself to never fall in love or have children so no-one will have to watch her decline and suffer along with her like she has whilst watching her mother's condition deteriorate.
The book gives you Brandys point of view then introduces Ivos point of view when, despite Brandys resolve in avoiding commitment, he becomes more than just a holiday fling. There is also the aspect of the story that intrigues me the most. We begin with Ivo giving his children journals to read, both his and Brandys. It becomes apparent that they are unaware of certain history between him and Brandy as we return from this flashes of insight into the journals. I am very interested to see where this story is heading both during Brandys struggles and in the future with Ivo and his children.
This book handles the story of an illness that has touched a lot of people and how it affects their lives with honesty and realism. I think that it also handles the prospect of being stricken with this illness and the fears that it brings very well with a lot of real and raw emotions.
I think that the author may have hit all the range of emotions people may feel when knowing and caring for someone with Alzheimer's as well as someone faced with the prospect of having it. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Moments Of Joy by Ysa Arcangel is the first book in the moments to remember series and is a five star read for me.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and wow. Beautifully written and a truly heart-wrenching story. I just fell in love with the characters from the very start of the book just as the book had me gripped from page 1. This book touches upon a truly heartbreaking disease that tears families and people apart. This is a fantastic book that raises awareness of that. I loved the storyline and the characters are very real and were easy to relate to. Especially considering I had a family member that suffered with this awful disease and it was heartbreaking to go through. I truly believe that the author has portrayed the emotions and storyline perfectly and flawlessly.
This book will literally tear your heart out it's so emotional but it is truly beautiful also. This book was extremley well written and has fast become of my favourite books. I will definitely want to one click future releases from this author. This book was full of different emotions with many twists and turns in the book that will keep you guessing what is going to happen till the very end.
I could not wait to get to the end so I devoured it in one sitting. Incredible work!!
I adore this book and cannot wait to read the next in the series as well as other work from this amazing author. I will definitely be recommending this author to everyone I know.
This is the first book in the Moments to remember series, by Ysa Arcangel.
Moments of joy is a story about Brandy and Ivo - two people that decide to share a night together, a night where nothing more than satisfaction, mutual understanding and respect are expected.
That one night turns into two, then three. As their relationship grows closer, so does the time Brandy has left before the genetic nightmare, that Alzheimer's is, comes knocking on her door.
She always knew what was possibly looming around the corner but nothing in life is a certainty, right?
Will Brandy risk giving her heart to Ivo when she knows that her mind might not be hers for much longer? This is the sole reason she has decided to stay single, after all.
She never wished to have another person she loved, watch her memories slip away, but how much of a choice is it, when the heart has already decided?
Ivo never expected to fall for this firecracker that he happens to meet in Italy. How can one night be enough? Or even three? Or a 100?
No one can predict what might happen in one's life, we can only decide how we react to those events and how far we are willing to go for love.
This story tugs and pulls at all your heartstrings. This book is so bittersweet but is beautifully written. I have watched a person close to me, fight this disease and the author of this book can make you believe that what these beautiful people are going through, is very real. That THEY themselves, are real. Because in a way, they are.
So many people are affected by Alzheimer's and Moments of Joy gives us only one of many possible stories of the people that have gone through it.
This book is a story about Brandy. This is the first book in the Moments to Remember series. Brandy’s mom has Alzheimer's Disease and Brandy is almost guaranteed to follow suit. She struggles with the hardships her mother goes through and doesn’t want to become a burden if she became affected. But then she meets Ivo. This book tells the story of Brandy meeting and falling in love with Ivo. Will she allow herself to fall in love? As their love grows the inevitable happens and Brandy’s memories begin to fade. Can Ivo handle what is ahead for them?
The emotions in Moments of Joy are sadness, thoughtfulness, and confusion. It really makes you think about the time you spend with your loved ones. It also tells a story of struggle and understanding what their loved love is going through.
Ysa Arcangel tells this story from multiple points of view. Those of Brandy and Ivo are the most predominant.
The description of the relationship and the love connection between Ivo and Brandy is wonderful. Ysa digs deep into the emotions of Brandy as her memories begin to fail and the despair Ivo feels about her disease.
Moments of Joy is definitely worth five stars. This author writes in a manner that kept me engaged all the way to the end. I could write more but I don't want to spoil it for everyone else. I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever dealt with Alzheimer's or the effects of the disease on their loved one.
Moments of Joy is the first in the series of Moments to Remember books featuring Brandy Curtis and Ivo Ferrero. Brandy is attending her brother’s wedding in Italy. The most romantic country in the world some would say but she is not interested in romance. She definitely just wants a nice Italian man to wine her, dine her and…well you get the rest. When she meets Ivo he is exactly what she is looking for: Unattached, only interested in a casual fling and ready and willing to show her the city and the Italian way. Since her mother succumbed to Alzheimer’s and Brandy believes she will eventually do the same, love is the last thing she is interested in. This book is a captivating look at love and the early onset of Alzheimers. How love can move from passionate physical love to something so much more deep and how a disease can affect your body and your brain in a way you never thought possible. This book was so upbeat and lovely. The love scenes were passionate but romantic and the spark between Ivo and Brandy was tangible. I loved the setting of Verona – the backdrop for Romeo and Juliet and the fact that the main character rejected the traditional idea of romance and was just there to have a good time but did get sucked into its power. As a linguist I also loved that some of the dialogue between Ivo and his sisters was in Italian. It was a fantastic introduction to Brandy & Ivo’s love story while introducing a mysterious wider family which I am sure we will learn more about in book 2.
I was gifted a copy of Moments of Joy by the author in exchange for an honest review. This is my first book by Ysa Arcangel, and I cannot wait to read Book 2 in this series. She had me hooked from the beginning.
This story focuses around Brandy, and her knowing that she will suffer Alzheimer's early on in life like her mother did. With that looming over her head, she is afraid to let herself fall in love, knowing that one day she won't remember those special moments they shared.
While in Italy for her brother's wedding, Brandy hooks up with Ivo, intending for it to be a one time thing. However, things have a weird way of working out. They share mutual feelings for each other, but is it strong enough to tear down the emotional wall Brandy has put in place?
Ivo is a doctor and is well aware of the effects of Alzheimer's. Ultimately it becomes his mission to help Brandy any way that he can.
I like how Moments of Joy is written in the two POV, Brandy and Ivo. It is easy to keep up, and brings much more depth to the story line, as you get to fully understand the emotions each person is feeling at the time.
Without giving away any spoilers, I will say that this book will grab you from the beginning, and you will have a hard time putting it down. Be prepared to smile, giggle, and cry; sometimes on the same page. It pulls at your heart strings, but in a way that you just want more.
In this book, the MC is Brandy, a girl who has a family history of Alzheimer's disease. Only the women in her family acquire this disease and she already knows that she's going to be the next one to have it. She refuses to have serious relationships because of that.
She went to Verona, Italy to attend her brother's wedding and there she met Ivo. At first they only had an agreement to have a one night stand but it developed into something more serious. I really loved the character of Brandy. She's strong and brave despite knowing that she already has the early signs of Alzheimer's. I also loved Ivo except for that one rash decision that he's made (I'd like this to be spoiler-free so I won't write it here). I highly recommend this if you love reading romance books. A heartwarming, steamy and unputdownable read! Can't wait to read the next book in this series!
"Most of my prayers are for other people for various reasons, and praises. And today I prayed to thank Him that I have had my moments of joy."
"I grew up in a family of boys, Ivo. I grew up strong. Independent. I don't want to cling to anyone and depend on anyone except myself."
"I've learned through the years that I can either choose to give into obstacles and become the victim, or I can learn to love more and overcome life's challenges."
Soundtrack: The Greener Side by Morgan Taylor Reid
What a heartfelt and emotional story. Ivo is wanting his children to know his story and has them reading journals to learn more about him. Brandy has early onset Alzheimer's, but met the love of her life while at her brother's wedding. She's aware that she is having problems, but is struggling to remain herself during the painful process of being so forgetful. Ivo fell in love with her in spite of knowing what is happening with her. He's bound and determined to make the rest of her life a series of joyful events, knowing she'll probably never remember a lot of the events. He takes her on vacation, wanting to make more memories with her before she progresses to far to be able to enjoy life anymore. I'm voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book. I cannot wait to see what happens next with these two. I've cried so many times, but it's worth every tear.
It took me longer to finish this beautiful story than it usually takes me to finish a book, mostly because I was so overwhelmed with emotion, I had to step away for a little while. I was exposed to the insidious disease - Alzheimer's - at a very young age, and it was so horribly sad to see someone who used to joke and laugh, such a playful person, disintegrate until none of us were known to him anymore. I honestly didn't realize that "Moment of Joy" traveled along a theme of Alzheimer's Disease, so I was caught off guard when it was revealed. I don't want to give any detail in my review that might even come close to a spoiler - so I will just say these things: Ysa Arcangel is one of the most talented young indie writers I've discovered. "Moments of Joy" is filled with beautiful descriptive phrases, and situations that will move you to tears. I feel that my life has been enriched by this story. I can't recommend this book highly enough, and as soon as I submit my review, I'm going to buy Moments to Remember Book 2.
Blurb: With her family history of Alzheimer's and at great risk of acquiring the disease, Brandy Curtis always plays safe. She had always avoided commitments like the plague.
The timing couldn't be worse. As her heart gets closer to Ivo, her memories begin to fade.
Will Brandy be able to actually have moments of joy with Ivo against the odds of losing herself into the recesses of her tangled brain?
Moments of Joy is the first book in this series. This is the story of Ivo and Brandy. Brandy Curtis is a young woman that fears the worse in her life. She has lost her mother to this mind destroying disease. Her mother has committed a tragic act that has left Brandy and her brothers on their own. Brandy is afraid her future holds the same fate. She decides in college to never again be in a committed relationship. There will never be anyone to suffer like she has. Brandy has a very interesting job helping other people with advice. Now she is on a plane to go to her brother’s wedding. This is the trip of a lifetime. Will she fall in love despite her great efforts to avoid it at all cost? When Brandy meets Ivo, she is instantly attracted to him. It is going to be a one night stand with no strings attached. She doesn’t want to get to know him. Ivo has a very interesting volunteer job being Romeo in letters and this is very intriguing to Brandy. They start to spend time together and Brandy’s heart is being chipped away and so is her mind. Can Ivo love her when he discovers what Brandy is going through and how her life will be in the future? This is one of the most thought-provoking stories I have read in a long time. Ysa Arcangel knows how to tug the heart strings. I really like how smooth this story flowed. The characters are strong and I love the story. I can’t wait to see what the next story brings.
Moments of Joy is the first in the Moments to Remember series by Ysa Arcangel. This is a wonderful story about Brandy and Ivo. I was taken in immediately by Brandy and her story. Her mother has Alzheimer’s and Brandy knows that most likely she will also have Alzheimer’s. She lives a life with no attachments beyond her mother and her brothers. The ironic part is as a journalist she is the voice behind her publication’s Dear Juliet romantic advice column. Brandy and her brothers travel to Verona, Italy for her brother’s wedding. While in Italy Brandy meets Ivo. The two have an immediate spark. Brandy sets the rules that the two are just going to have fun and no attachments beyond Brandy’s stay in Italy. The two soon realize that there is more than just a lust fun-filled few days in their sights. Will Brandy be able to make the decision to give love a chance? I enjoyed this story. The characters are realistic and believable. I related to Brandy’s relationship with her brothers. There tends to be a strong bond between them but that does not mean that they always get along. Brandy has a lot of conflicting emotions especially when dealing with the knowledge that she will follow in her mother’s footsteps with Alzheimer’s taking over her life. There was much that was relatable despite not having lived through the same situation as Brandy’s. I look forward to where this series goes and reading more of the stories from this author.
This is a story about true love and the vows of sickness and health. I am looking forward to reading the second book in this series. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
This is my first book from Ysa. The book is beautiful and heartbreaking. I was hooked from the start. I totally love the story of Brendy an Ivo, especialy Ivo and his love and hope. I hope that 25-th of May will come soon to read the second book. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Thank you Ysa for this great book. I'm voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book
A completely different type of romance book. When you know that your chances of developing Alzheimer's is high, do you dare fall in love? Brandy is determined to not fall in love and cause heart ache for anyone, but sometimes life has other plans. This book keeps you rooting for Izo and Brandy. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Moments of Joy surely filled me with joy. Despite the cringe-inducing cliches, it balances it with the way the story unfolded and how the characters had given justice to their parts. Moments of Joy is addictive, catchy and oozing with sexy.
“For those who find themselves in the middle of difficult circumstances…Keep the faith, keep hoping and keep loving.” Ysa Arcangel
Moments of Joy is the first book in the Moments to Remember series by Ysa Arcangel. This is such a beautifully written novel that at times is so very tragic- parts of it were truly heartbreaking- and yet, there is an underlying current of hopefulness, courage and love that really resonated deep in my heart. I have family members who have and are battling Alzheimer’s, so this story has hit close to home for me. There was so much that I could relate to and I shed quite a few tears while reading this story. The author poignantly captured the devastating impact that this disease has, not only on the individual, but also on their family and friends. The story was moving, thought provoking and interesting. It has a very original concept, which the author executed brilliantly. Brandy Curtis is twenty-seven years old and works as a columnist for a popular newspaper. She’s travelled to Italy for her brother’s wedding to his Italian Fiancée. She is determined to make the most of her trip and wants to create as many happy memories as possible. Due to her family history of Alzheimer’s, Brandy is worried that she won’t be able to remember much in the future. She’s very concerned that she will succumb to the disease too. She has begun documenting her memories in journals, so that she has a record of everything important to her- it’s her way to make sure she will always be able to remember her life. While in Italy, Brandy meets a charming and gorgeous man. Ivo is a Doctor, who has not had a very good track record when it comes to relationships and is quite familiar with hurt. The instant they meet there is an undeniable connection. The more time they spend together the more powerful their bond becomes. They agree to a fling, which will last only for the duration of Brandy’s stay in Italy. Once she leaves it’s over. Brandy is entirely realistic about her illness and what will happen to her. She doesn’t want to be a burden to anyone or have anyone have to watch her decline. And she certainly doesn’t want to fall in love, only to then forget everything. So she just doesn’t do relationships. But her time with Ivo has had more of a profound effect on her than she could have anticipated, her heart yearns for love and happiness and she feels that and so much more when she is with him. Ivo begins to notice the symptoms of early onset dementia and decides that he wants to do everything he can to help her. Will Brandy open her heart to Ivo? Will she allow him to give her the support he is so determined to provide? What happens when there are some misunderstandings? What happens when it comes time for Brandy to return home? Can these two find love and embrace a future together under such seemingly insurmountable odds? Ivo and Brandy are wonderful characters. They have left a lasting impression on me. I really felt for Brandy and the situation she found herself in. Brandy can’t see how the disease is insidiously interfering with her life, but Ivo does. He is so wonderfully supportive and determined to stand beside her and fight. They really were fated to meet. The journals really play a significant part in this story and the author has integrated them into it superbly. The transitions throughout the story are effortless and seamless. I really loved the author’s vivid descriptions of Italy, capturing not only the visual aspects so beautifully, but also the whole atmosphere of being there. Ms. Arcangel was able to transport me there with the skilled use of her words. The story has a great pace and flows smoothly. It is told from a duel POV and the story will continue in the next book and I can’t wait start on it! This is the first book by this author that I have read and it sure won’t be the last.
