Abby Green spent her teens reading Mills & Boon romances. She then spent many years working in the Film and TV industry as an Assistant Director. One day while standing outside an actor's trailer in the rain, she thought: "there has to be more than this". So she sent off a partial to Mills & Boon. After numerous rewrites, they accepted her first book and an author was born. She lives in Dublin, Ireland and you can find out more here www.abby-green.com
This is an enemies to lovers story that began when the h was 17 and had a one week clandestine romance with the neighbor of the next winery, son of her father's great enemy. These two wine-making families in Argentina had been enemies for generations and the fact that the h's mother was having an affair with the H's father didn't help matters. When the h/H were caught, the H was horsewhipped and the h was told some unsavory news The h broke it off with the H in the most the brutal way possible, thus earning his never-ending hatred.
The only other contact in the 8 years prior to the opening of this story was the H saw her at a London nightclub and in a puff article in a society magazine with her mother. He thinks she's lived the life of a princess when she's been working and going to school in France learning the wine trade. Now she's back in Argentina after inheriting the rundown vineyard next to the hero's. Hero wants to run her off because she broke his heart, but instead he keeps helping her in big ways and in small.
He finally proposes a deal. He'll invest in the vineyard, if she will spend one night with him. Heroine is a virgin because she's been carrying the torch for him. He has managed to carry his torch into many beds - but she *has* haunted him and kept him from being close to any woman.
AG manages (mostly) to keep the emotional intensity up, even as the revenge plot peters out. Everyone is just too nice to keep up the OTT hatred - or did the servants forget there was a feud between the families?
Other quibbles I had: the heroine was supposed to be so smart, but I don't know how she thought she was going to make wine with no investment money - what about her mother's fourth hubby investing? I also didn't like the gratuitous way the author used physical abuse to ladle on the pathos. The emotional scarring of the hero was angsty enough - why bring physical violence into it? And the OTT violence of the potential investor toward the heroine - she should have had him up on assault charges and the hero retribution should have been shown on page.
Even with the OTT deal the hero proposes, this story ends up being more sweet than angsty. The H/h are reasonable people, which is great in real life, but feels like emotional punch pulling in an HP.
The book is a mixture of enemies to lovers and second chance troops. And with some usual HP spice, it falls into my average category. I liked Abby Green writing and feel always comfortable to read her books. And, This one is no exception. The hero was not my liking but I liked the heroine.
Safety Issue: It was a second change story so the hero was not celibate. They were separated for 8 years. A Little bit of OW drama nothing special. The heroine was a virgin. 🙄
I really enjoyed this latest entry by Abby Green. This book was full of the emotional angst that I enjoy while reading a harlequin. The sexual tension simply simmered between Nic and Maddie and the culmination was nicely written.Loved the scene at the bus station where Nic went down on bended knee to propose.

Another fabulous book by my favorite Mills & boon authors Abby Green, which has been placed on my favorite books shelf.
The story of Nic & Maddie set in the Argentinean wine country, where the two first meet and despite the century old family feud between their families, feel an incredible connection to each other. Their feelings result in tragic and sad consequences, are cruelly torn apart for years but never forgetting each other and when reunited again will result in both having to face their demons.
Great setting and like all the information that is built into the story. The buildup and the smoldering passion in their relationship. Good dialogue. The many surprises as I turned the pages. Fast moving plot. Great, interesting and strong characters.
Maddie is a fabulous character – even when life hits her with yet another wall, she is not prepared to give up. I liked the passion and commitment she felt for her heritage,
Nicolas is like this typical alpha alpha male…trying so hard to hide his feelings for Maddie, displaying disdain where none actually exists. I liked his passion, his caring nature and of course, could I ever resist a sexy Argentinean man!!!!!
This is a story about family, loyalty, passion and so romantic. It was something like a modern day Romeo and Juliet but with the difference that the two lovers find their HEA.
One Night With The Enemy has all the emotional intensity and the gnawing tension you come to expect from a book written by the very talented Abby Green. Generations-old feud has separated the Vasquez and the De Rojas. But when young Maddie Vasquez and Nic de Rojas fell in love, all hell broke. Scandals and secrets separated the young lovers and soured their burgeoning love. Eight years later, when Maddie returns to Argentina to inherit her late father vineyard, she finds it neglected and drown in debt. The easy solution is to sell to her family old enemy and competitor, Nic de Rojas. But Maddie is made of a tougher substance. From the first encounter strong chemistry and enmity war between the once- lovers- now-enemies. Along with a maelstrom of emotions: betrayal, humiliation, mistrust, anger.... and love? Yeah, definitely love. Even if they fight it all the way.
I do so love a book by Abby Green, she is one of my most favorite authors. She writes such strong heroines and incredibly delicious heroes...add in some intense chemistry, some major conflict and you have a great story.
One Night with the Enemy is a "Romeo and Juliet" theme of warring families, bitterness and revenge. If you love Abby Green, you definitely will not want to miss this one!
"One night with the Enemy" is the story of Nicolás and Madalena. This ill-fated love story between kids from abusive families owning rival vineyards tells about two people who obviously have trust issues, and really, really shitty parents. I honestly felt bad for both of them having such traumatic childhoods, and parents that should have been thrown in an asylum that I kind of forgive them for being so stupid, but not exactly. The hero is mean and ruthless, the heroine thinks she is strong but in the end, she is slave to her circumstances. The lovemaking scenes are well written; however I did not like that fact that while he was so shaken by her past behavior, he became a tomcat while she lived like a nun. If it wasnt for the drama, this could have been a good read. Unsafe 2.5/5
In the beginning I wasn't overly impressed. Too much of an information dump and not enough dialogue. But halfway through the story began to really draw me in and I absolutely loved the intensity. Both Maddie and Nic were intense, fiery types which made for sparks flying left, right and centre. Add in a very complicated family history on both sides and you have one hell of an emotional ride and a great story!
Abby Green’s books are always fraught with tension and passion and that is exactly the kind of story you get here!
The depth of feeling between the hero and heroine is incredible; intense, emotional, a little dark and sad. Abby has written this book with the perfect blend of love and hate, and I couldn’t get enough of it. She does a brilliant job of weaving in the backstory without distracting from the present, in fact it makes the whole story even more rich.
The Romeo & Juliet theme is done with relish and with the revenge theme added in just makes this even more wonderful. The story keeps you guessing, and hooked throughout.
With eye-popping passion and edge-of-seat tension, this is not to be missed. Exactly the kind of Modern/Presents I like best.
When Maddie returns to Argentina to take over the vineyard that her estranged father had left to her in his will. It is to find the estate deeply in debt. Determined not to sell, she intends to find an investor.
Nic who owns his own vineyard, is determined to get rid of Maddie one way or another. Years ago they had become close but were torn apart by family rivalry and betrayal. Nic has not forgiven Maddie. When Maddie's attempts at finding someone to invest financially fail. She is forced to accept Nic's help. But there is a price he wants something from her. But will she be willing to give him what he wants.
Once again Abby Green gives us another highly emotional read. Full of passion and angst. With great characters and a fast moving plot, this is a great way to pass a few hours. Recommended.
Abby Green is so great. I loved how the hero had so much reason to hate the heroine based on what had happened in the past, and yet almost immediately he found himself helping her. Very satisfying read.
Jaka to umowa? Czy Madalena uratuje rodzinną winnicę przed ostateczną upadłością? Jak rozwinie się znajomość z Nicolasem? Odpowiedzi na te i wiele innych pytań, należy szukać w książce Abby Green.
Co my tu mamy? Motyw enemies to lovers, romans trochę w stylu slow burn.
An okay read. Both MCs were stupid but oh well, what's new in HP world? The H claimed to loved h since 8 years ago but he slept with numerous females and h stayed 'pure' and untouched. That left sour taste in my mouth. The excuse of being hurt on H part wasn't acceptable since h was hurt too and she didn't jump into different beds in those 8 years. What a pig. The ending was okay with the h still using her last name despite them both being married and they have been married for 9 months and she went into labor.

the hero is less patronizing of the girlboss protagonist than the author, which is confusing. The wine world and details are interesting and like the twist is not super boring. Argentina sounds great- would love to visit Argentina.
This story is in the passionate potboiler mode. It has all elements of an high octane read. 2 Latino leads, a legendary family rivalry, young puppy love turned sour. The most trite and dramatic of them - leads could be step siblings !! Now that's enough to fill 180 pages with loads of passion, sex, fights. Sounds like fun, doesn't it, it is actually.
The girl Maddie and the guy Nic have been lusting after each other since puberty. But there is this long standing family feud. So they have a short secret liaison in their youth. And they are cruelly separated by family.
Cut to 8 years later. Nic is super rich, Maddie's estate is teetering on bankruptcy. He thinks she is just a light weight socialite, she thinks he has become ruthless and money minded.
This time they meet, snipe at each other. Then of course the age old 'lusting since puberty' syndrome takes over, and they cant stop kissing and canoodling.
In between all the kissing, they do take some time to figure out how a lot of lies and sabotage was involved in separating them years ago. Philandering mummies, sulking daddies, DNA tests to prove paternity, scheming lawyers - plenty of drama reveals itself.
That's it then. They realize that they have been crazy about each other all along. Only their way to show their love is slightly different. She shows it by remaining a virgin, he shows it by incessant bed hopping !@@#@
I generally feel enraged by this anomaly that authors deliberately encourage between the girl's and the guy's behaviour. But come to think of it, if the author happened to reverse their reactions - she starts sleeping around and he remains celibate !!! Just imagine, that doesn't sound palatable at all !! So I reluctantly submit to this universal rule.
Abby Green is one of those authors that can captivate a reader from the very first sentence. She has a knack for transporting you to a world of glitz, glamour and passionate love affairs, taking you a reading ride one will never forget.
In One Night with the Enemy she as certainly done it once again. The story tells about Maddie and Nic,two souls bound by the world of wine making, family fueds and old love.
Maddie and Nic had one of those magical stolen affairs we often hear about but then she discovers a secret about Nic and takes off ! Then eight years later she returns and Nic decides to set his plan for "revenge" into motion.
Set in stunning Argentina the author takes these two characters and combines the world of wine making and their families legacies into one of the best books of the year!
I loved the fire and passion between Nic and Maddie to the point of distraction and for me I did not want the book to end. The gorgeous descriptive writing by the author has the unique effect of not only allowing one to picture every person and location perfectly in one's mind eye but to have you actually wishing you were there so that you could grab hold of the characters and give them a good slap for the mistakes they make, but also have you crying tears of joy when it works out.
Nic was a strong, powerful forceful character to recon with and Maddie was the stunning beauty from his past that had to be dealt with at all cost. I held fast to every single word and could not wait to see how the author would bring the "semi sweet" Maddie and "robust" Nic together in true Abby Green fashion.
This book was actually quite good. I didn't expect it to be so well - written. I liked both heroes wich is very rare for me with such novels. The story and its execution was very good I almost finished the book in one sitting, a thing that doesn't happen that often with me anymore. I enjoyed this novel throughly and I would be happy to purchase some more of this auther's books.
It's been close to 2 decades since I read a Mills & Boons romance. It was a favourite among the women in my family, and there is a whole stack of them at home.
I think they may have also contributed to my reading slump at the time, and now I picked this book up out of curiosity. I think it's safe for me to say I wouldn't be looking for another one anytime soon.
It felt too physical. Too shallow, I felt like I didn't have to think very much. No humour. And very damsel-in-distress-ish. It was an enemies to lovers book, plenty of miscommunication and trying to act tough scenes which made me feel frustrated.
The characters were not strong, and I didn't feel like sticking up for them or encouraging them. Perhaps the book was too short.... Maybe if it was longer the characters could have developed a little more and made me start to care for them.
There was a little bit of insight into the workings of a vineyard. So that was interesting, but again, too little of it.
I adored the puppy love part of the story, I'm a sucker for things like that. But it disturbed me greatly to know that he was 23 and she was 17. That was a real mood killer. So I made her over 20 in my head and I could enjoy the story after that.
Nothing was standing in the hero's way but the hero. He needed to get over his pride and get this hard working woman! Jeez, he made everything harder on himself. The feud should have still be going on because the story would have actually been interesting it. Oh and don't kiss a girl who just got sexually assaulted! Thanks.
Sepertinya Abby Green akan menjadi penulis favorit gue.. Dia punya keahlian membuat cerita mainstresm berbumbu pas. Seperti kisah tak sampai cinta pertama Madie dan Nic. Nasib mereka menyedihkan tapi menyenangkan untuk diikuti kisahnya
